E51 - WLAN File Transfers

Is there any way I can transfer files from my E51 to my computer over my WLAN? I'm thinking of something like a Windows Explorer application. I couldn't find a way to do this with the default E51 apps. I'd like to stay away from emailing the files.

you have no idea what are u talking about. well. lets see. i want to transfer 2GB of music, films, etc to/from your phone. how much time is it via bluetooth? 1,5 hours, theoretically, even much more in real. via wifi? hmm, 5 minutes theoratically, in practise, it would be like 10 minutes. so whats weird? i think its weird to use bluetooth when there's wifi. bluetooth is a piece of something compared to wifi.

  • E51 WLAN - File sharing with another PC on home WL...

    Hi,
I have recently bought E51 and had no trouble setting up the WLAN accesspoint and browse the net / check emails / download software. All works very well.
The tutorial on phone suggest that one can share files etc. between the phone and another PC on WLAN. I have tried to do that but somehow I am not able to get this right.
Has anyone done this? If yes, I will appreciate details on how to go about it.
    Thanks

I've been able to find this software which apparently allows one to do that:
Symsmb (www.telexy.com). Current ver. 3.50. Have not been able to test it though (time constraints...). It is not free but 15 days trial is available. If anyone does try it, pls. share your experience here.
Nokia should make this available free as a productivity tool...!!!
    Thanks.

  • E51 WLAN Setup Issues

    Hi,
I know this has been discussed before, but after searching and trialing I've got nowhere.
Just got my E51 and trying to connect to my home wireless network. Appears to connect fine, try to start browsing, no data is transferred and eventually times out...
I've tried wizard setup and manual setup - both give the same results.
    Router (Netgear WGR614) setup:
    WPA-PSK security
    SSID visible
    Phone set-up
    Network status Public
    WLAN mode Infastructure
    WLAN security mode WPA/WPA2
    WPA2 security mode off
Think that's about it. Any solutions as to what causes this? I fear it's a firewall setting as allows connection but no data transfer. I disabled the SPI firewall on the router and that didn't help.
    Thanks for any help!

I don't know what exactly caused the problem, which consisted of not being able to connect my Nokia E51 to the WLAN Router but if the security settings were disabled. Whenever I tried to enable the security settings with WEP/WPA on my WLAN router, although the access point was duly detected, and apparently flawlessly listed, it would no longer be available when actually trying to connect, as it would return the error message "WLAN not found".
After reading a few things about security issues, (http://www.wi-fiplanet.com/tutorials/article.php/3672711, http://www.practicallynetworked.com/security/041207wpa_psk.htm) I decided that there is no way I could accept to connect to WLAN without security encryption.
By trial and error I managed to enable the security settings on the WLAN router AND successfully connect with Nokia E51 only after I did this:
    1) Changed the SSID to some very exotic new name, completely different from the previous default name (supplied by the manufacturer). I noticed that the default SSID had become a known access point (AP) to my nokia phone when the security was disabled. With security enabled, it no longer worked.
    2) Set up the wireless security to WPA authentication type, TKIP encryption, PKS.
    3) Chose a 15 (or more)-character-strong passphrase and set is up in the wireless router security settings.
    4) Had the WLAN assistant of my Nokia E51 update the AP list.
    5) Once listed as new, unknown SSID, I was able to set up from the phone my WLAN AP, via the OPTIONS tab where I was finally prompted for the passphrase. (Same prompt would NOT work unless SSID of a previously successful, unencrypted AP is changed)
The device resolved the connection which worked fine ever since.
I think that there is a bug with Nokia E51 which does not actually update the access point list and does not reload all of the details of a recently reconfigured AP which used to work fine with disabled security settings in the first place. The mobile phone can be forced to completely refresh the AP list (in Connection Manager> WLAN assistant) only if the SSID of the AP is renamed in the the router settings. It seems that only afterwards would the security handshake between the devices finally work out and establish a proper connection. There is definitely a bug with the Nokia E51 wlan manager!

  • File transfers between two 10.9 Macs over FRITZ!Box AVM 7270 painfully slow, any ideas?

I am using a FRITZ!Box AVM 7270 as my WLAN Router and Internet access point.
Internet download rates are excellent (6 MB/sec), e.g. iTunes HD trailer playback starts immediately. However, local WiFi file transfers between my two Macs (2011 MB Air, 2012 Mac Mini Server) are embarrassingly slow. I typically see 60 kbit per second (even when no other transfers, up- or downloads occur). Copying just one 50 MB PDF from one Mac to another takes ten minutes.
The FRITZ interface shows that both Macs are connected using 802.11n (104 Mbit/s), signal strength is good.
I first suspected a problem with Apple's AFP protocol that was mentioned in several forums. But in the meantime, I have upgraded both Macs to Mavericks, which uses SMB as default. But even connecting via SMB "smb://mac1.local" has the same results: Dead-slow transfers. Activity Monitor shows some peaks at 150 kb/s when transferring files, but it's almost dead in between.
The problem occurs when copying in both directions (Mac Mini <> MB Air).
    Any ideas?

    I think you're right!
    Thanks for the tip!:-)

  • Odd behaviour with large(ish) wireless file transfers

Hi I'm really pleased with my playbook - brilliant device !
I do however have one general dislike ; that is for micro/mini physical connectors. They are a fact of life on many devices now so ......
Anyway. In order to minimise my use of the micro usb connector I have been copying files to it across my wlan but have experienced some difficulty.
Most recently (last night) I was copying a 230 Mb video to my playbook. At various times throughout the transfer, my computer's progress bar would pause for a goodly number of seconds then jump by about a 14 Mb increment (something buffering somewhere maybe ?) This went on until around the 210/220 Mb when my computer gave up and reported that the "connection to the device was interrupted, ignore cancel"
I tried this with a number of files and got the same (or similar)  result each time.
I realise this could be down to many things but just wanted to know if anyone else had noticed something like this happening.
    For info:
    Playbook 2.1.0.1088
    Macbook Pro mountain Lion
    Belkin F57D Router.
    Kind Regards

    Hi there,
thanks for trying that. I guess I need to hunt a little more.
    Regards
I have transferred lots of files a LOT bigger than 230Mb to the PB. Wi-Fi file transfers (and even microUSB transfers in fact) are sloooooooow by nature. I would suspect your connection to the router in your instance. I would investigate your Wi-Fi settings and adjust as required. I have had experience with this modifying something called channel width (I have posts about it here in the forums). Anyhow, that one little setting made a heck of a difference for me with throughput and general Wi-Fi stability with the PB on my network.

  • Problems with File Transfers Over Firewire 800

Problems with File Transfers Over Firewire 800.
Over the past month, I have had problems when transfering files from my harddrive, over Firewire 800 to a portable drive. I usually transfer very large files (20gb or more) to the portable drives for moving files around. When I drag a file over to copy onto a drive, the transfer starts normally. If I drag more files to copy over, the computer screen goes darker and a large icon comes up that looks like a power button icon. It tells me to restart, so I have to do a hard shut down on my G5. Weird. I also get the dark screen of death sometimes when I am transfering those large files and open another application to do some work while it's copying. It's killing me. I am having to sit here and wait for the transfer to finish before I can do anything.
    Any thoughts...

Have you run the Apple Hardware Test? Sounds like it could be a RAM problem.

  • Problem with Jabber and file transfers WAN - LAN-Users - a solution!

    Hi,
I read a lot of messages about problems with file transfers between iChat-Users, if one (or both) are behind a NAT.
I had this problem to and found an easy solution:
    My situation
iChat-Server behind a Netgear ProSafe FireWall. I opened the needed Ports including Port 7777 (the Port for the iChat-proxy (proxy65).
The iChat-Server is configured to host the domain "server.ourdomain.com" (as an example).
This address can be reached from the LAN and also from the WAN-side.
From the LAN-side the DNS redirects to 192.168.1.1, from the WAN this domain redirects to our official IP-address (the WAN-IP of the FireWall).
I tried nearly all kinds of mentioned solutions, but nothing helped.
The really easy solution is: I just added our official IP to the "Hosted Domains" in the iChat-section of Server-Admin.
After that change, the transfers are made via the proxy65 of iChat-Server. The transfers are shown in the log /private/var/jabberd/log/proxy65.log.
I think, that the other posters who also have this kind of problem are working in a similar setup (domain name of server is used from the LAN AND the WAN-side with different IP-addresses (LAN-IP & WAN-IP).
This solution will only work, if the WAN-IP is a fixed address.

Until the introduction of file promises in AIR Athena, it  has never been possible to drag remote files out of an AIR application.
You could refer to the http://www.adobe.com/devnet/air/flex/articles/using_file_promises.html
Hope this is helpful. Please let me know if I could help more.

  • I bought a new computer, and i have transfered everything using home share, file transfers, etc.. yet still when i go to sync, itunes tells me ipod can only be synced with one computer... is there a way to retire the relationship with the old computer?

i bought a new computer.  the itunes app allows for home shareing, file transfers, etc.. but i want to discontinue the syncing with the old computer and sync my ipod touch now only on my new system... but i cant seem to disconnect that old relationship at all.. when i try to syncit says that my ipod is already synced with another computer, do i want to discontinue that and only use the new informationon this computer?  i dont want to do that yet because it doesnt seem like everything has come over, and i am afraid of losing songs that i downloaded from cds, etc..

if you don't want to sync it because you don't think that everything has been transferred then i would check first if you can, before you commit to used only the data from your new computer.
though, im not sure if this is true, but i think that when you sync your ipod to a new computer it will take the items from your ipod and put it on itunes, like when you purchase something on your ipod and it gets automatically transfered, but don't take my word for it.

  • Is there a way to prevent LR from reducing size (pixels) of files transfered to Photoshop as a psd file for editing?

The subject line says it all.  I have discovered that LR reduces the size of files transferred to Photoshop for further editing when compared to the same RAW file processed in ACR in Photoshop.  For example, a psd file created by LR from a 36 MB RAW file will typically result in a 100 MB psd file.  The same RAW file processed similarly in Photoshop will result in a file around 300 MB.  This makes a huge difference when the files are converted to JPEGs for printing.  The smaller LR psd files result in JPEGs typically under 500 KB where the Photoshop JPEGs are typically around 1.5 MB.

Whew!  I didn't think this would turn into such a long discussion!.     OK - my error,  spatial data not color.  But that is loosing focus on my question.  My objective is to get the best print possible from the final JPEG file used for printing..  As previously noted, for a given RAW file w/similar adjustments but with one processed in LR and the other in PS , a print made from the larger of two resulting JPEG files, the larger JPEG file resulting from only  PS ACR processing (i.e., no LR) will result in a better print.  Elie-d appears to have answered my basic question. If LR will always pass a 103 MB file then I assume there is no way to change this size.  In case anyone is interested here is some additional info for consideration.  Both LR & PS using 8 bit mode and 240 ppi..  Procedure in LR: 1) download RAW files from camera CD; 2) make adjustments to photo;  3) using Edit in External Processor, photo transferred to PS in PSD format, 8 bit. 4) file size around 100 MB (103 MB per elie-d).  Procedure in PS:  1) download RAW file to hard drive with Nikon View2; 2) open file in PS - auto opens in ACR; 3) apply essentially the same adjustments (e.g., exposure, highlight, shadow, etc) ) as applied in LR;  4) file opened in PS editor;  5) resulting PSD file size with no further processing (i.e., no layers, etc.) is 310 MB).  The resulting JPEG file created from the LR PSD is typically less than 200 KB whereas the JPEG from the PS PSD will generally be around 1.5 MB.   As an academic question it would still be interesting to know why one gets different size PSD files from LR and PS and what, if any, affect this has on print quality.  As for now I will not use LR to process RAW files.  I prefer the larger PSD & JPEG files I get using just PS

  • How to find out the size of files transferred over the SQL * Net?

I am trying to test the Advanced Compress (AC) for 11g Data Guard. When the AC is turned on, the archived log files are supposed to be compressed on the primary database server and sent over SQL*Net, then decompressed on the standby db server. We will see the file sizes are the same on both primary and standby servers. I want to verify that the AC works by monitoring how much data are sent over SQL*Net. Per Oracle, AC uses 35% less of the bandwith. That means the size of the files transferred should be at least 65% of the original size.
Is there a way to find out the size through Oracle utilities? If not, how to find out by OS utilities? OS is Solaris 5.10.
    Thanks.

I'm not sure this can be done via SQL*Net, but a network packet sniffer between the two servers should be able to help - you might want to contact your network team.

  • Items In Use for File Transfers

Whenever I transfer several files at a time (7+ or so), I get the error "The operation cannot be complete because the item "(insert filename here)" is in use."
I have tried the lsof command in Terminal with no results. This happens with different files (mainly pictures, as I transfer those in large amounts) and from both local drives and card readers or USB drives. The files are usually being moved to a network attached storage that is in the Finder exceptions for indexing. The files aren't always new, so I do not think finder is indexing them. If I click "ok" (and in doing so cancel the transfer) and start it again, it works just fine (until it decides to hit another file and repeats the process).
It's a very annoying little problem because it forces me to micromanage large file transfers. Any ideas?

    As a workaround consider
    ditto
Sometimes I get a scrap file in the trash that cannot be deleted for the same reason, although I find no obvious cause. Sometimes it's the mail app and a stray RSS file, but not always. Even then I have to shutdown and restart mail, which is really not acceptable to me.
Usually a logout/in unhooks it but that's not a solution either.
You might try transferring the files using a new account with no apps running or even installed other than the defaults.

  • File Transfers in Chat Rooms?

We're running OS X Server 10.8.3. Is there any known way to have the ability to transfer files inside of a Chat Room? I find it mind-numbing that this isn't possible. We cannot use the chat room feature at all without this. Does anyone know of a way to get it to work or are we stuck now having to look for a third party chat room product?
    thanks,
    Ben

I'm not sure either of you understood my question. I'll try to make it more clear, in case anyone else has any ideas or feedback that could help:
We are using Mac OS X Server, 10.8.3. We are using the "Messages Server" service. When using a "persistent chat room" -- one of the supposed features of OS X Server. From http://www.apple.com/osx/server/features/#communication ...
"Messages Server brings the collaborative power of instant messaging to your organization. Now workgroups can transfer files securely, share group messages, conduct audio conferences, even broadcast a presentation, movie, or photo slideshow to other Messages users running OS X."
And from the OS X Server product overview PDF, pg. 18...
    Group Collaboration Made Easy
Messages Server works with OS X to automatically populate users’ buddy lists with
members of the groups to which they belong, so it’s easy for them to start communicating. And thanks to store-and-forward functionality, Messages Server allows users
to send messages to buddies who are online, combining the advantages of instant
    messaging and email.
Messages users can request Messages Server to create and host a persistent chat
room. Perfect for virtual-team scenarios, project-specific discussions, and real-time,
blow-by-blow updates, the chat room allows individuals to join at any time, leave
when they need to—even log out and shut down—and still come back to review
all communications from the time the chat room opened.
Here's the problem I'm perplexed by:
File transfers work just fine when doing 1-to-1 chats. However, in a "Chat Room", they do not work at all.
I realize that this may be "just how it is" but I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge of a way to make it possible. Seems like a ridiculous limitation, and one that makes the entire (otherwise useful) feature of "persistent chat rooms" all but moot for us.
    thanks,
    Ben

  • Disconnect from WiFi Button in Yosemite (Faster File Transfers via Airdrop)

Hi all! Just thought I'd share a great new pro-tip I found that's pretty handy.
Sometimes file transfers through a complex or busy network with a  (think hotel lobby or coffee shop), Airdrop file transfers can run extremely slow vs. it going from computer to computer via no network (Ad Hoc). I was determined to find a work around for disconnecting from a WiFi network without turning off Wifi.
Anyways, Yosemite introduced a much asked for feature - The disconnect from WiFi button! Just hold down option while you select the WiFi indicator on the menu bar and click disconnect! Your WiFi will continue to be on and it simply won't connect to that network again. If you now search for other computers in AirDrop, it will find them and be a much faster computer to computer connection.

Testing in a new User will quickly tell you if the problem is system wide or if it's your User's folder that contains the problem.
    CREATE A NEW USER
Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Users & Groups Switch to the New User by logging out/in or use Fast User Switching.
Enter your Apple ID and password.
Test Markup in Mail using the iCloud account.
Continue testing to see what works in the new User.
Do you still see the issue?
If yes, then the problem is with your base files.
If no, then the problem is in your User's folder.
Finder - my iMac name is - iMacs iMac. All of a sudden it become iMacs iMac (2) and latter iMacs iMac (6). What are these numbers ?
In System Preferences > Sharing you can see name. When Finder adds a number it indicates it's seeing another drive with the same name. You can select to rename but this could also be an indication of issues at the base level.
Do you have an external drive that could be used to clone your drive in case you need to do a clean install?

  • File transfers not working

my file transfers have suddenly stopped working, they start and crap out around a quarter of the way through. the majority of people that im talking to are not on ichat but aim on windows. what can i do, and if i have to delete and re install how do i save my buddy list?

    Hi:
If you think your iChat problems might be from corrupted ichat preferences files, the "sledge hammer" approach would be to delete the five com.apple.ichat.*.plist files that are in your Home folder's Library folder's Preferences folder. The next time you launch iChat, it will be just like a first-time-ever launch of iChat, so you will need to re-enter all the iChat account information when the iChat startup wizard launches, and your iChat preferences, in particular, remembering things like resetting your iChat > Preferences > Video > Bandwidth to None and stuff like that. Your buddy list is maintained on AIM's servers, not your computer, so it's safe.

    How will i resolve it??
    Can someone help me?
    Please reply, it's urgent.

    Hi Irosenth
Thanks for the answer. I am not sure I understand your question though.
We have a collection of reader enabled pdfs that the user can open in a webbrowsercomponent in a .Net winform.
We used to (Reader 9.4 and before) replace the Readers "save pdf" button with our own "save pdf" button that
    - saves the pdf
    - exports its data as xml
    - send a message to the .Net winform that the pdf has been saved.
We implemented our own save button and its functions using a plug-in.
Now I can't find our "save pdf" button in Reader X. That is my problem.
So I try to create a new toolbar and place our "save pdf" on this new toolbar as you adviced me.
I expect the toolbar to show up in the Tools pane in the webbrowser component in Reader X.
But it doesn't. There is no Tools pane when I open the PDF in the webbrowser.
(btw all the keyboard shortcuts we have created in the plugin (ie CTRL, ALT, L) works fine - so the plugin generally works).
When I couldn't find my toolbar with its button in the webrowser, I tried to open one of the reader enabled pdfs in the Reader X as a standalone application.
This was just as a test to see if it worked any different from the browser plugin. It is not part of our use case.
But I noticed that in the standalone Reader X I do have a Tools pane, and my new toolbar but no "save pdf" button.
This is how it looked with Reader 9.4 and before:
OK the red text in the screenshot is quite difficult to read. It says (from above)
"We have replaced the Readers save button with our own save button in the plugin.
This is the (selvcreated save) button I miss in Reader X"
"This is a Reader enabled PDF shown in a webbrowser component in a .Net Winform"
"The users only have the Reader, not Acrobat"
    Best regards
