E51 wlan settings

I have got a problem. I can set up wlan in my school. Free wland wokr without problems but, in my school everyone have they own name and password. It is good for notebook, but I want to try it by mobile. They said to me it was possible. Certificate is something something.P12. An .p12 doesnt work. Use the password and name is only the way. Does anybody know how to set up this? I have tried but no success. Thanks

Just got this from Birdstep's support:
"SmartConnect is not using the proxy setting of the connection. This is known problem with SmartConnect. Currently there is no fix or workaround for it".
So that seems to be the end of it, for now at least.

  • E51 WLAN Setup Issues

    Hi,
I know this has been discussed before, but after searching and trialing I've got nowhere.
Just got my E51 and trying to connect to my home wireless network. Appears to connect fine, try to start browsing, no data is transferred and eventually times out...
I've tried wizard setup and manual setup - both give the same results.
    Router (Netgear WGR614) setup:
    WPA-PSK security
    SSID visible
    Phone set-up
    Network status Public
    WLAN mode Infastructure
    WLAN security mode WPA/WPA2
    WPA2 security mode off
Think that's about it. Any solutions as to what causes this? I fear it's a firewall setting as allows connection but no data transfer. I disabled the SPI firewall on the router and that didn't help.
    Thanks for any help!

I don't know what exactly caused the problem, which consisted of not being able to connect my Nokia E51 to the WLAN Router but if the security settings were disabled. Whenever I tried to enable the security settings with WEP/WPA on my WLAN router, although the access point was duly detected, and apparently flawlessly listed, it would no longer be available when actually trying to connect, as it would return the error message "WLAN not found".
After reading a few things about security issues, (http://www.wi-fiplanet.com/tutorials/article.php/3672711, http://www.practicallynetworked.com/security/041207wpa_psk.htm) I decided that there is no way I could accept to connect to WLAN without security encryption.
By trial and error I managed to enable the security settings on the WLAN router AND successfully connect with Nokia E51 only after I did this:
    1) Changed the SSID to some very exotic new name, completely different from the previous default name (supplied by the manufacturer). I noticed that the default SSID had become a known access point (AP) to my nokia phone when the security was disabled. With security enabled, it no longer worked.
    2) Set up the wireless security to WPA authentication type, TKIP encryption, PKS.
    3) Chose a 15 (or more)-character-strong passphrase and set is up in the wireless router security settings.
    4) Had the WLAN assistant of my Nokia E51 update the AP list.
    5) Once listed as new, unknown SSID, I was able to set up from the phone my WLAN AP, via the OPTIONS tab where I was finally prompted for the passphrase. (Same prompt would NOT work unless SSID of a previously successful, unencrypted AP is changed)
The device resolved the connection which worked fine ever since.
I think that there is a bug with Nokia E51 which does not actually update the access point list and does not reload all of the details of a recently reconfigured AP which used to work fine with disabled security settings in the first place. The mobile phone can be forced to completely refresh the AP list (in Connection Manager> WLAN assistant) only if the SSID of the AP is renamed in the the router settings. It seems that only afterwards would the security handshake between the devices finally work out and establish a proper connection. There is definitely a bug with the Nokia E51 wlan manager!

  • N97 WLan settings and wizard GONE!!

My wlan settings and wlan wizard has disappeared from my phone. Even after re-installing software and putting it back to factory settings, I can no longer use the wlan on my phone ... Not happy, pls help

Yes - this happened to me too. The only way I could resolve it was by doing a HARD reset (power off the phone and then press the
    Caps shift
    Space bar
    Delete button
    On button
    simultaneously).
This corrected the WLan and opther problems - but if you try this ensure that you have backed up all your stuff (contacts/data etc.) first, just in case. It will not affect stuff on a memory card, but will probably affect items on the phone and mass memory.
After the reset the firmware showed the latest version12.0.026.209.06 on my unbranded N97. What's more I seemed to have doubled the amount of free RAM, even after loading all my programs and data etc.
It's a pain that this had to be done, though. Is it a case of the update not being thoroughly tested for UK versions? We've had to wait long enough for this firmware update!

  • Nokia E51 WLAN transfer rates

    Hello,
I have e51 phone, I was trying to connect to the university Wireless, but E51 couldn't connect.
I try it with E65 and its working..
I asked the IT and they told to make sure from the Nokia E51 WLAN transfer rates..
Because if it was 1 or 2 MB it won't work.
is there anyone has an idea about it???

Many thanks! Fixed it for me I guess there is a problem with the DHCP client when using WPAx?

  • E51 Wlan Hidden SSID

We have lately purchase a couple of N95 and a couple E51 handsets. At the office we have a Linksys 4400N Access Point configured for 802.11G with WPA and hidden SSID.
The N95 handsets are able to connect with no problems whatsoever. The E51 however simply won't connect.
I tried taking the E51 home and connect it to my Airport Extreme 802.11G/N with the same results. At home I also have a hidden ssid so I tried to unhide it, with the ssid visible the E51 connects immediately. Hiding the ssid again (and changing the setting to hidden on the e51) and the handset is again unable to connect!
How is it that the N95 is able to connect and the E51 fails so miserably? I'd really prefer NOT to have to change the WiFi settings just because of a couple of handsets. Or simply say that for E51 users it just won't work.
This issue is really bugging me, searching the net has only resulted in few hits on this specific issue. Here's hoping that it is I who's making some kind of mistake (I doubt that however since I configured the N95 and the E51 side by side).

I was able to connect nokia e51 to WLAN with hidden SSID (I use WPA-PSK with AES).
Just define the access point first and choose "Network status" as hidden.
Here is short instruction from the manual:
    "Connection > Access points.
    2. Select Options > New access point to create a
new access point, or select an existing access point
from the list and then Options > Duplicate access
point to use the access point as a basis for the new
    one.
    3. Define the following settings.
    • Connection name — Enter a descriptive name
    for the connection.
    • Data bearer — Select Wireless LAN.
    • WLAN network name — To enter the service
set identifier (SSID), that is, the name that
identifies the specific WLAN, select Enter
manually. To select the network from the
WLANs in range, select Search for networks.
    • Network status — Select Hidden if the network
you are connecting to is hidden or Public if it is
    not hidden.
    • WLAN network mode — If you select
    Infrastructure, devices can communicate with
each other and with wired LAN devices through
a WLAN access point. If you select Ad-hoc,
devices can send and receive data directly with
each other, and no WLAN access point is needed.
WLAN security mode — You must select the
same security mode that is used in the WLAN
access point. If you select WEP (wired equivalent
    privacy), 802.1x, or WPA/WPA2 (Wi-Fi protected
access), you must also configure the relevant
additional settings. See the device help for more
    information.
    • WLAN security settings — Edit the security
settings for the selected security mode.
    • Homepage — Enter the web address of the page
you want to display as the home page when you
    use this access point."

  • E51 + WLAN + sipgate

    Hallo @all!
I'm new here, so let me introduce myself: saxa. Some of you may know me from other discussions, some of you will )
My little problem is the following. I've got an account at sipgate. It's a VoIP provider in Germany.
I set up my E51 device to use this account. And it works so far.
I often visit my different customers, and many of them have wireless networks, which I may use being there. I would like to set my mobile phone to connect to sipgate automagically, as soon as it sees a WLAN, which is known and open for me / my device.
Is it possible? The way I'm connecting now is the following:
(Please advice: my phone "speaks" German; menu names are freely translated by me, so they can be slightly different...)
    * being on a new place where the WLAN is available, I open Menu -> System -> Tools -> Connections -> SIP Settings;
    * I select the defined connection and edit it's settings;
    * select Standard connect point and change it to the new one;
    * it was still not enough. "Log In" must be switched from "Always active" to "Active As Needed"; afterwards save setting and afterwards again to "Always Active".
Really complicated, isn't it? But I have a feeling, it can be done on another way...
    I would appreciate your help

I am using sipgate.co.uk with my E51 and have it configured to automatically work at home and in the office.
You need to define a sip profile for each access point.
menu/tools/settings/connection/SIP settings/options/New SIP Profile/Use existing profile/[your profile that works somewhere else].
Then rename and edit the new profile to match your current location.
The phone then seems to automatically select the profile which matches the current access point.

  • E51 wlan can't connect

    Hi,
I was using my Nokia E51 last night and downloaded wefi and werok apps thinking it might be safe, when i deleted werok, wefi went away as well and my wifi was working perfect. I woke up this morning trying to go on the internet, and nothing connects, it keeps saying "Connection not available" i try using my apps and it doesn't even let me go to search for wlan. Can anyone help?

Reset the E51. Dial *#7370# 12345 reformat, you'll lose all data. Make a backup first and restore without the settings.

  • E51 WLAN, GPRS

Is it possible to make e51 use wlan to connect to internet. I find that although i have a wlan connection on and connected, it seems to browse using gprs.

    Check your browser settings.
Web -> Options -> Settings -> General -> Access Point
You can define a default access point here or set it to 'always ask', in which case your phone will asks which connection to use at the start of browsing. (And then you can choose between your wifi or gprs connection)

  • E51 WLAN - File sharing with another PC on home WL...

    Hi,
I have recently bought E51 and had no trouble setting up the WLAN accesspoint and browse the net / check emails / download software. All works very well.
The tutorial on phone suggest that one can share files etc. between the phone and another PC on WLAN. I have tried to do that but somehow I am not able to get this right.
Has anyone done this? If yes, I will appreciate details on how to go about it.
    Thanks

I've been able to find this software which apparently allows one to do that:
Symsmb (www.telexy.com). Current ver. 3.50. Have not been able to test it though (time constraints...). It is not free but 15 days trial is available. If anyone does try it, pls. share your experience here.
Nokia should make this available free as a productivity tool...!!!
    Thanks.

  • Why does my ZTE open c Firefox OS smart phone forget the wlan settings and does not ring the alarm?

Sometimes it is even enough to go outside to the waste bin to let my smartphone forget the settings for the wireless lan. When I return I have to enter the - not so short - code from my wlan router again. After that the internet connection is running as it should.
Additionally the alarm clock does not work, I can set alarms as I like, setting the volume to the max and activate also the vibration alarm but nothing happens when the preset time is arrived, even when the alarm clock is shown on the screen the whole time. Is my phone broken? Or is it a bug in my Firefox OS installation?
Where does Firefox OS store these values for wlan connection and alarm times? Is there an internal database that is maybe corrupted?

    Hi Markus,
I understand that you're having issues with the Wi-Fi connection and the alarm clock in your ZTE Open C device.
The alarm clock issue appears to be similar to what has been reported by other users and is being tracked on [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1052245 bug 1052245].

  • E51 WLAN 802.1x LEAP

    Hi folks,
I configured a wireless lan with Cisco Access Point protected by 802.1x and EAP-LEAP.
Nokia E61 and E65 are working fine with the following configuration:
    Data bearer: Wireless LAN
    WLAN netw.name: phone
    Network status: Public
    WLAN netw.mode: Infrastructure
    WLAN Security mode: 802.1x
    WALN Security sett
    WPA Mode: EAP
EAP Plugins: EAP-LEAP (username + passowrd)
Few days ago I bought a new E51 but it doesn't work with the same configuration and returns an error message.
I double checked all text entry and tried to upgrade to the lastest firmware release (200.34.36) but with the same result.
If I open the WLAN (no encryption and no authentication) the phone works fine so it isn't an hardware issue.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Stefano

    Help please...
My cell haven't this plugin "LEAP"
I used this plugin, but after update the software(firmware. by N.S.U.), the "eapLeap" plugin  disapeared by the list...

  • E51 - WLAN File Transfers

Is there any way I can transfer files from my E51 to my computer over my WLAN? I'm thinking of something like a Windows Explorer application. I couldn't find a way to do this with the default E51 apps. I'd like to stay away from emailing the files.

you have no idea what are u talking about. well. lets see. i want to transfer 2GB of music, films, etc to/from your phone. how much time is it via bluetooth? 1,5 hours, theoretically, even much more in real. via wifi? hmm, 5 minutes theoratically, in practise, it would be like 10 minutes. so whats weird? i think its weird to use bluetooth when there's wifi. bluetooth is a piece of something compared to wifi.

  • Nokia E51 SIP Settings

For those of you who may be looking for the SIP Settings of your Nokia E51 (maybe this is also applicable to other Nokia models)
I found the solution in: http://www.daniweb.com/blogs/entry2352.html#
But I'm using Voipbuster & so the settings hereunder are for that voip service.
You may just have to change the values depending on your account and voip service provider.
    Voipbuster settings for Nokia E51:
    Profile Name: Voipbuster
    Service Profile: IETF
Default Access Point: Whatever your access point name is.
    Public user name: sip:[email protected]
    Use Compression: No
    Registration: Always on
    Use Security: no
    Proxy Server:
    Proxy Server Address: sip:sip.voipbuster.com
    Realm: sip.voipbuster.com
    Username: XXXXXXX
    Password: XXXX
    Allow loose routing: yes
    Transport Type: UDP

    Realm: sip.voipbuster.com
    User name: XXXXXXX
    Password: XXXX
    Transport Type: UDP

What do you mean by "caller ID to work"?
First of all, does the SIP settings of Justvoip work with your E52?
    http://justvoip.com/en/sipp.html
Or the SIP settings work but you are just asking about the name/number that appears on your friends' display screen when you call them?
As Justvoip & Voipbuster are both from Betamax, I guess it's the same system.
You can't just put any number that you want to appear as your caller ID.
As I said in my previous post, you must register those numbers first as your official caller ID number in Justvoip/Voipbuster.
