E52 phantom mailboxes

hello. I have the penultimate software (updater does not put in latest ) and had this problem on and off. But after e52 replaced with new one i restored memory and most was fine. . . Including email boxes which worked fine. Then yesterday . . After 5 days . . . I took picture to email to facebook and guess what. . . No email boxes set up. Immediately i checked my email and all was good. Then after swapping memory back to phone etc eventually the 2 boxes on my standby screen stopped working.
In setting up again the mailbox i set up incorrect when i first got phone back in 09 kept appearing and would be difficult to alter or for that matter delete.
Eventually after an hour i got the wrong one the phantom one to have correct info and on standby i just select the new old phantom ones rather than the now non existant ones which were working .
The reason i message about this is now when i go to pictures and send, when i click by email a different email page appears with bigger font which when i send shows a progress bar which then clears. To close you just click close and it asks if you want to save. No is not allowed so you have to click yes. The email of course just sits in your outbox until you manually go to email and wait for it to send. You then go to drafts to delete the draft you don't need. How do i
1. Delete all mailboxes that exist in the phone. It clearly has to be done at file or memory level as there are only 2 official boxes displayed but evidence of at leapt 5.
2. Make the send picture with in camera to use correct part of email so send like a normal email.
Excuse the slight sarcastic tone just after 18 months you should not expect to have to work a less efficient way with same phone.
I could totally start again. But isync and setting up sip on phone etc is long and tedious.

I have the same problem described above.
I do not see the folders on the webmail access to the mail server, only in the mail.app
Did you find a solution?

  • E52 can't set default mailbox

So I'm having yet another rather annoying problem with this E52. Now it seems that each time I restart the phone the chat wizard reappears on the standby screen, and the email wizard starts. I believe this is related to the fact that no default mailbox is set. Even though I have two mail boxes setup already.
When I try and define a mailbox it just tells me that no mailboxes are found and asks if I would like to create one now (even though I have two functioning mailboxes defined already). After going through the steps to define another mailbox guess what? Still no default mailbox defined and I get to start all over.
This is running on the latest firmware: 051.018
So a few questions: 1) Is there a fix for this, and 2) is anyone else experiencing this problem?

this also affects mail key. It appears that this issue affects any feature that needs mail box list

  • Can't create mailboxes after E52 firmware update t...

    Hi everybody
After updating firmware of my E52 to version 083.001 I was unable to recreate any kind of mailbox using the wizard provided by nokia email
    This is what I done:
backup of my contacts and messages with new Nokia Suite (v. 3.2.98)
deep reset of my E52 (code *#7370#)
updated firmware to 081.003 with nokia suite
another deep reset using code *#7370#
I restored contacts and message with nokia suite (by the way .. nokia suite was not able to restore messages!)
I tried recreate mailboxes using nokia email v. 3.21.0, when creating mailboxes (ovimail, gmail hotmail) with the wizard, after typing mailbox and pwd it always says:"Unable to create mailbox" !!!!
    Has anybody faced this problem

    Hi MarcoB1,
Sorry to hear the frustration you have been having since your update. Have you tried visiting http://email.nokia.com on your nokia browser, then download and replace the nokia messaging app?
Alternetively could you follow these steps and report back if it works:
Start the normal process by clicking create new mail box
    The terms will be shown
Select start, which will say preparing for setup
It will ask for which connection to continue setup...( gprs connection select to always ask)
    CANCEL THE SETUP.
Message will pop up saying unable to contact the server.
Automatically a box will appear with the symbol '@'
    Type in any [email protected]
    any [email protected]
(do not give your actual email id yet)
    Next page
    Check the account name
Goto server type and select IMAP4 instead of POP3
    Incoming mail server
    for yahoo
    imap.mail.yahoo.com
    outgoing
    smtp.mail.yahoo.com
    For gmail
    Incoming
    imap.gmail.com
    Outgoing
    smtp.gmail.com
Save this setting and the mailbox will be created
once created select options goto settings/mailbox settings
    Correct the account details
    Enter correct email ID
Goto advanced settings at the bottom > Incoming settings
Correct the email ID for the outgoing and check to see if all details are correct.
Now go back and connect, but select the gprs connection
Hope this helps or at least aids you in solving your issue.

  • Unable to remove mailbox from Nokia E52

    Hello,
I configured 2 mailboxes in my E52 which was working fine until I configured 1 more account. After I created that another account all the 3 mailboxes got disconnected. Now when I try to connect any of the mailboxes it prompts for password, which is not accepting after many attempts. So it remains in the disconnected state. Now when I try to remove/delete the mailbox, it gives me an error: You must be connected to remove the mailbox. Try again later. Neither I am able to connect to any of the mailboxes nor I am able to remove/delete any of the mailboxes. I am in a fix now. Pls help

Menu > Email > Settings > Highlight the mailbox but don't open it > Options > "Remove Mailbox"
I had the same  problem. Make sure the mailbox is disconnected when you do it. It will work

  • Instead of "Mailbox busy", Mail asks for password, long delay

We're testing Mail as a replacement for Eudora at my place of work. There is a POP account (not .mac) that is checked by five people. Using Eudora 6.x, if one person was checking the account, anybody else trying to check would get a Mailbox Busy message. Using Mail, you'd get an alert symbol next to the mailbox in the mailbox list, but next time mail was checked and the mailbox wasn't busy, it would work fine.
We just switched to a new mail server yesterday (on a Vereo host?) and now, though Eudora is behaving as before if the account is busy, Mail will pop up a box saying the password wasn't recognized, asking for the correct password, and then there's a loooong delay while it times out.
I presume the new server is sending some kind of busy message that Mail interprets incorrectly, but it's a show-stopper for us. Currently our options are:
    1. Stop using a shared mailbox (my personal preference, but the actual users might not go for it)
    2. Find out from the provider why the new server is causing this behavior (fat chance--they're likely to blame it on our weird Apple software)
    3. Find out how to make Mail interpret the busy signal correctly.
    4. Forward the account's mail to all the users' own addresses, instead of having them check that account themselves (am doing this now, will see how it works out. It will require more storage space on the server, at a minimum.)
I'm trying to find out if the server supports IMAP but in any case that would not be a workable solution for us.
Any feedback or enlightenment would be greatly appreciated.

"More Like this" entry " Phantom Mail Account won't let go! Steven Shmerler SASNET Design, New York  Oct 10, 2011 7:56 PM" gave me a clue, which after 15 minutes without annoying message, seems to work.
Went to Mail Preferences/ Accounts/ Account Information/ Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)/ Edit SMTP Server List...
There were four (count them, 4) references to Earthlink. I deleted them, restarted Mail, and so far so good.

  • I can't delete phantom emails

    iPhone 6  IOS 8.1.3
I have recently deleted all the emails from a particular person on my mac email account.  When I search that person's name in the search all email accounts in the the search bar in the email app, I can no longer see any emails from that person. The problem however is, when I search that person's name from the search bar on top of my iPhone6 home screen, I get a list of phantom draft messages that I cannot seem to delete or get rid of. I have tried saving them as new draft messages. Once they appear in my draft mailbox, I delete and trash them. Then I search again from the home screen search and the phantom emails are still there as a draft that appears no where else except in the main search from the home screen.  I need help to get rid of these phantom messages.

Spotlight is known to have strange behaviour (since the introduction of spotlight on iOS 3.0): It keeps in it's spotlight files deleted files, and these "phantom" residues will only delete when you reset the device, and it will even transfer if you set the iPhone from backups.
Some users have even reported on this forum that this caused them some troubles (i.e: divorce, because the wife discovered spotlight saves of message her husband was sending to whoever...). You might want to feedback this to Apple: https://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
Therefore, you emails are really deleted, but they leave a trail behind...

  • Phantom messages appear in search results

Hello. When I search for a message in Mail, the search results often include three instances of the same message. One is the correct message. The other two, however, are phantoms. There is no mailbox listed for these phantoms, and if I click on a phantom in the search results window, nothing in the message pane, just a "show in mailbox" link. If I click on "show in mailbox" link for these phantoms, Mail does nothing.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this?
I'm using IMAP to a server at my university, so perhaps could this be a problem with the mail server?
    Any advice is appreciated.

How long has this been going on? Are these "phantoms" messages that you deleted before and still showing up, or are they all the same message, with the same date and time?
Have you tried rebuilding your Mail index? It could be corrupted. To do that:
    1. Quit Mail if it's running.
    2. Go to Home/Library/Mail and remove (do not delete) the Envelope Index file(s) to your Desktop.
    3. Restart Mail and allow it to import your existing messages. When that's finished, try searching for those same messages again and see if the phantoms still show up; you can also delete the Envelope Index file on your Desktop.
    Post back with results.

  • Unread phantom emails

I would love some input from anyone who has figured out how to get rid of the phantom unread emails in Apple Mail for Mac. They ONLY show up on my work PC; not at home, or on my phone. Didn't start getting them until I downloaded to Mavericks, but I don't know if that's the issue or not.
I have been through every e-mail in every folder; I definitely do not have any unread e-mails.

    This worked perfectly!!!
Thank you for the response and the accurate assistance!
"I had the same problem. What i did was:
    Shut down Mail
In Finder, go to "~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/" (just do CMD+Shift+G and paste the path)
Move all "Enevelope" files to another place (like desktop)
Restart Mail and let it convert/reindex your mailboxes
Your Mail should be OK now and teh phantom messages should also appear
If this did work out, you can trash the Envelope Files you moved earlier.
I did try to simply re-build my Mailboxes, but it dident work out. The approach above did the trick.
    Hope it helps

  • Phantom Blank Spam blocking Mail from retrieving new mail in Apple Mail

Over the past few days my wife and I have both had difficulties downloading pop-3 mail from our accounts (from a UK based ISP, UKonline) onto our separate computers (Powerbook G4 and MacBook). I have no idea yet whether this is affecting other ISPs or other Mac or PC platforms or mail clients, but it is definitely affecting both of our Mail apps running under 10.4.7.
The problem seems to revolve around blank email messages being received into our respective accounts by at our ISPs mail server.
These blank messages, presumably some form of spam have no sender, no recipient, no date, no source code, no body text and no subject.
These 'phantom' blank emails appear to be the root of the problem as once they are manually removed from our server-side inbox (either through Apple Mail's 'Get Info' / 'Remove from Server' function, or via our ISPs webmail facility), the email starts picking up mail automatically again–immediately, without any other intervention other than clicking 'Get Mail'. Until they are removed, Apple Mail will NOT collect any more mail, automatically or manually through 'Get Mail'.
I have contacted my ISP and to date had no firm response from them. One of their operatives suggest I contact Apple as his Windows PC email still works and retrieves mail when these blank phantom messages reach his server-side inbox waiting to be collected.
The fact that these messages have no date means that under Mail's 'Get Info' / 'Remove from Server' facility, they always appear at the top with the CURRENT date and time when sorted by date. In this way, they are easy to spot. Also, if sorted by size, they also appear at the top because they are 0k in size. They appear to act as a blockage to receiving new mail until they are cleared.
I'd be grateful to hear if anyone else is having this problem or has found a solution to it, or indeed whether this is an ISP problem.
    With thanks

    Hello Jamie.
These 'phantom' blank emails appear to be the root of the problem
as once they are manually removed from our server-side inbox
(either through Apple Mail's 'Get Info' / 'Remove from Server' function,
or via our ISPs webmail facility), the email starts picking up mail
automatically again–immediately, without any other intervention
other than clicking 'Get Mail'. Until they are removed, Apple Mail
will NOT collect any more mail, automatically or manually through
    'Get Mail'.
What is your setting for removing messages from the server when downloaded by the Mail.app?
If set to right away, does this have any effect?
One of their operatives suggest I contact Apple as his Windows
PC email still works and retrieves mail when these blank
phantom messages reach his server-side inbox waiting to be collected.
Of course - especially if this operative is using Microsoft's Outlook or OE which usually don't have problems downloading anything including viruses, adware and spyware.
I'm not sure why these "Ghost" spam messages cause this problem with the Mail.app but these are obviously sent by a spammer to cause problems.
How about your ISP doing something about blocking all messages at the incoming mail server that are completely blank such as these so they don't arrive in any of their customer's Inbox mailbox at the server since these messages are intended to cause problems and are completely blank anyway? No different from any other type of spam or as messages are scanned for viruses at the server. Although Apple needs to look into this, your ISP is not completely off the hook or has no responsibility IMO.

  • E52 - cannot send E-Mail

Hello, I've got a brandnew E52 and successfully connected it to our Exchange Server. I'm able to Sync Calendar entrys, Contacts, my complete Mailbox - really just perfect. But when it comes to send a e-mail or reply to one I get a failure "E-Mail not send" ....? So this means I can do everything but sending E-Mails ;-(
Here my settings for Mail for Exchange:
    Email: my email adress
Mailbox: none (cannot be changed somehow ...)
    Username: myusername
    Password: mypassword
    Servername: myserversname
    domain: myfantasydomainname
I did have it running with roadsync - it was no problem also sending E-Mails.
    Thanks for help, armin

Check your settings, especially the port setting, and make sure they are correct. Link.

  • Phantom GMail messages in mail.app

    Here's my situation:
At one time I decided it would be lovely to point mail.app at my GMail account. I changed my mind about this pretty quickly (once I figured out that it was going to take approximately 11 years to download all of my gmail messages, since I rarely delete anything from gmail).
The "phantom messages" I reference in the subject line are these: references to gmail messages that do not exist on my machine. During the normal course of using mail, I don't ever see them, but they turn up by the thousands when I search for messages or when I create a Smart Mailbox. I'm starting to suspect that they may be implicated in some of the mail slowness that I have been experiencing, in particular slowness of Smart Mailboxes (which, ideally, I would like to use to organize my RSS feeds).
    Here's what it looks like:
The little "Show in mailbox" text that looks like it ought to be a link is nothing - can't click it, can't highlight it, nada.
I have recently rebuilt ALL of my .plist files in an attempt to address the "mail won't quit" problem (the one that's NOT related to notes or mobile me - seems to have worked, by the way), so I know that's not going to solve the problem. When I look at /Library/Mail, there is no evidence of a GMail mailbox anywhere.
So. Does anybody know how I can get rid of these? There are literally tens of thousands of them - one search turns up over 16000 phantom messages. I can delete them, which makes them not show up in searches anymore. Interestingly, when I delete them they do NOT show up in my Trash... they simply vanish. So I could manually delete them all, but that would take a really long time.

Bump... anybody have any ideas on this one?

  • Can't find a 'phantom' unread mail or mark it as being read

I'm using mail on various machines to access an Exchange server account. It generally works with no problems, but on my work MacPro (and only on this computer not the iMac at home, various laptops, iPad, iPhone etc) mail tells me there is an unread message. However, I can't find this message and it's not there when I use a webmail interface to access the same account. No problem, I figured I could just right click on the mailbox and 'mark all messages as read', but this doesn't work! I like to keep a clear inbox with no unread messages and it's driving me nuts!
I'm guessing that there's some strange synching conflict, but don't know how to solve it. Any ideas, please?
    Thanks, Jon.

I tried both, but neither has worked.
    a) Rebuilding the mailbox revealed another unread mail that actually existed, but didn't remove the 'phantom'.
    b) The SM trick uncovered lots of unread news items from Apple, but not the 'phantom'.
Thanks for your help, but I might need to do something more drastic like deleting the account and adding it again.
    Thanks, Jon.

  • Phantom unsent mail MobileMe

I have a phantom "unsent mail" on my iPhone 3GS MobileMe account. Everytime I log into MobileMe I get "1 unsent message" and a protracted churning. Every time I see one message being sent but without the wooshing noise. But then the unsent message notice reappears. I suspect this is wasting battery resources.
There is no outbox in the MobileMe account so I am unable to see where this message (if it exists) is lurking. I have tried replacing the MobileMe account during a sync. There is no unset mail on the web mail site, nor on any of my MobileMe installations on the Macs.
    Any ideas what to check?

Well - some combination of toggling "Compact mailboxes automatically" and store drafts on the server seems to have left me with a clean drafts folder online. I then deleted the local folder with one test draft I made during the gyrations.
Sorry I cannot be more specific on the steps needed to fix this - but I dodn't know how to make the drafts pile up and can't re-test things to narrow down what did the trick.

  • Phantom Mail Messages

The "Drafts" folder in my Mail is showing an ever increasing number of messages which simply aren't there. The number of these messages is show in the usual way in the left hand side, folders column.
Does anyone know why it does this and how I can remove these phantom messages (if indeed they are).
    Thank you

I had the same problem. In another posting I found this:
"One thing to look at would be whether Preferences > Accounts > Mailbox Behaviors > Store draft messages on the server is checked, and whether unchecking that (so that drafts are stored locally instead) makes a difference."
Bing - no ghost Draft messages.
