E530C 33661G0 Status of Ubuntu compatibility

Hi, I'm interested in purchasing a Lenovo E530C 33661G0 as available here
http://www.flipkart.com/lenovo-thinkpad-e530-33661g0-laptop-3rd-gen-ci3-2gb-500gb-dos/p/itmdnyhdpwnd...
Now, I would like to install Ubuntu on this laptop. In the following two sources, it's noted that the E530 is certified to be compatible with Ubuntu.
http://support.lenovo.com/en_IN/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-48NT8D
http://www.ubuntu.com/certification/make/Lenovo/
However, there are a couple of problems.
1. The model tested seems like an older model
2. There have been a few articles floating around the internet saying that a few different things are not Compatible with Ubuntu. For example, the track point and the WiFi card. There might be other issues.
Can anyone confirm that the particular E530 model I'm interested in is still compatible with Ubuntu. I'd like to be sure before a making an investment in this product.
Thank you!

It doesn't matter if the model (E530C vs E530) is older, what matters if the hardware is the same. E530C has just come out (?) so there might not be many user experiences yet.
As far as I've understood, that Ubuntu certification pretty much means that somewhere the model is being sold with pre-installed Ubuntu. So, usually it is some sort of guarantee of good compability.
If the wifi card in that model is Intel Centrino 2230, it has worked really well on my E330. No problems other than not always automatically connecting after suspend or hibernate, but that is not a big deal and doesn't happen constantly. I've used Ubuntu 12.10 and now using 13.04.
Useful links for you:
http://www.linlap.com/lenovo_thinkpad_edge_e530 (note the hardware differences)

And who said the Trackpoint doesn't work? It works. But compared to Windows, there are very little settings for it in the next-to-useless GUI mouse settings in Ubuntu. Getting the Trackpoint, touchpad and normal mouse all to your liking (sensitivity/speed wise) might be cumbersome without doing it the command line way.

  • What is the current status of compatibility of OS X with Logic 9 & Final Cut Studio 3

    With the impending demise of Mobile Me, I'll be making some changes.  In order to utilize the full capabiliteis of new Mobile Me I'd need to upgrade to OS X.  I have not yet done so because I have and use FCS 3 and Logic 9, both of which have been reported as having compatibility problems with Lion.  I write to ask the status  especially of compatibility between Lion and Logic 9.  With sadness I understand that FCS 3 will never work with Lion, so  I'll also ask of any FCS 3 users who have upgraded: what have you done to be able to work with your video created in FCS 3?  Thanks.

    If they originally had compatibility problems with Lion that has not changed. Apple has done nothing to make older programs run in their newest OS. This will never change, in fact it will only get worse. Even some Adobe software released last year does not run properly on Lion. Has Apple done anything about that? No they have not. They, Apple, expects the software companies to update their software to work correctly with Lion and their user base to upgrade to the newer versions to run properly on Lion. That is with No concern for the Mac user.

  • Flex SDK Compatibilty

    Hello,
    I would like to know what is the extact status of the
    compatibility of the Flex SDK on Unix.
    - In
    http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/Flex_SDK:Open_Source,
    the supported Unix platform are Linux, Solaris.
    - In
    http://www.adobe.com/products/flex/productinfo/systemreqs
    the paragraph "Adobe Flex Data Services" (includes Flex 2 SDK)
    claims an additional compatibility with AIX and HP-UX.
    Does anyone use successfully the Flex compiler on AIX or
    HP-UX ?
    If so what does the term "supported" platforms refer to ?
    Thanks in advance

    Hello,
    Self-response.
    I made some tests. It is possible to compile Flex
    applications on HP-UX and AIX. However modifications have been
    however in the mxmlc shell script.
    The produced SWF file are usable.

  • Clusterware Install:root.sh- Failure at final check of Oracle CRS stack. 10

    Hello All,
    Image: !http://systemwars.com/rac/cluster_back.jpg!
    I was attempting to perform the steps in:
    Link: http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/11g/OracleDB11gR1RACInstallationOnLinuxUsingNFS.php
    The only difference is that I decided to use fedora core 12 instead. I did this because I added a second NIC card (USB) and only FC12 would recognize it. I tried to get it to work on Cent 5 but it just wouldn't. The second nic on each machine eth1 are connected via crossover cable, and the interfaces can ping each other just fine, rac1-priv and rac2-priv.
    So here is my setup:
    # Public
    192.168.2.11 rac1.localdomain rac1
    192.168.2.12 rac2.localdomain rac2
    #Private
    192.168.0.11 rac1-priv.localdomain rac1-priv
    192.168.0.12 rac2-priv.localdomain rac2-priv
    #Virtual
    192.168.2.111 rac1-vip.localdomain rac1-vip
    192.168.2.112 rac2-vip.localdomain rac2-vip
    #NAS
    192.168.2.10 mini.localdomain mini
    Mini refers to my Mac mini which I decided to use as the 3rd "server" in the group. I was able to mount/read & write to the file systems just fine. As you can see.

    To recover from a status 10, one must check:
    check firewall / routing / iptables issues
    Now I have turned iptables off completely it doesnt even start up at boot time, so I know it can't be that.

    CRS-0184: Cannot communicate with the CRS daemon.
    Both rac1 and rac2 get the same output above with the -vip getting !H => !H, !N, or !P (host, network or protocol unreachable), I am assuming this is normal as CRS install did not complete successfully and the virtual IP is not bound yet.
    Im pretty sure I have some kind of networking issue here, but I cant put my finger on it. I have tried absolutely everything that is suggested on the internet that I could find. Even deleting the /tmp/.oracle and /var/tmp/.oracle but nothing works. Ssh keys for root and oracle users exist and Ive connected using every possible combination to avoid that first time ssh prompt so users oracle on each node goes directly into rac1/rac2 rac1-priv/rac2-priv & actual IPs as well. Any ideas?

    Hello
    Note 370605.1 (Clusterware Intermittently Hangs And Commands Fail With CRS-184) is telling this.
    "This is caused by a cron job that cleans up the /tmp directory which also removes the Oracle socket files in /tmp/.oracle
    Do not remove /tmp/.oracle or /var/tmp/.oracle or its files while Oracle Clusterware is up."

  • Clusterware Installation - Clock Skew and Packages Issue?

    Hi,
    Can someone share how to resolve installation issues in Clusterware10.2,
    rac1 - VM Centos4.7, 512 RAM
    rac2 - VM Centos4.7, 512 RAM
    Both VMs are located on Windows XP physical box.
    1. error while copying directory /u01/crs/oracle/product/10.2.0/crs with exclude file list 'null' to node 'rac2'. [PRKC-1002: All submitted commands did not execute successfully.
    - when I check the log, time stamp in rac2 is 'x' in the future, where x = variable, 2 sec, 100 sec etc.
    What is the allowable clock skew between 2 nodes?
    2. My cluvfy output command failed due to not exact packages,
    Ex. compat-gcc-7.3-2.96.128
    actual package, using command ( rpm -qa compat-gcc*)
    -  compat-gcc-32-c++-3.2.3-47.3
       compat-gcc-32-3.2.3-47.3
    Can we proceed to installation with not exact package version?
    3. During installation, all configuration assistant failed. Any idea why this is happening? My cluvfy output is shown below.
    Thanks..
    [oracle@rac1 cluvfy]$ ./runcluvfy.sh stage -pre crsinst -n rac1,rac2 -verbose

    This error because your second node time was greater than node one, this is causing OUI failed in running tar command on second node.
    you need to set node 2 time slighter less or equal to node 1 time
    answer q2
    yes we can proceed installation with package greater or equal than required
    answer q3
    it seems your VMs memory allocation were to small (512MB). I don't think that would be enough to installing rac.
    and try to install required packages
    Cheers

  • Looks like the Nexus 6 on 2-26-14. Who is excited!!!

    I have the Note 3 right now but I am really excited about that 5.95 inch screen!

    On that note, this is why I, personally, decide to buy phone I have a strong idea about in regards to support, flagship status and full compatibility with my chosen network.  But then, when I buy, I dont think about having to take it to another carrier.  I tend to buy what is reasonably priced at 3-6 months old and finish a 2 year term.  This time however, I may go no contract.  Next year will be a better year for those in areas where ATT and Verizon rule, and where Tmo and ATT are becoming stronger.  I love the fact it can be done, but Im no fan of backdoors and workarounds.  I understand there needs to be some knowledge as to the inner functions of the wireless world and its devices, but at some point, for me, it seems more like replacing a broken fan belt with a shoestring.

  • Check hardware parameters

    Hello,
    could you please help to create configuration items to check hardware compliance. I want to migrate a lot of client machines from XP to Win7. I need check if machines have at least 2 Gb RAM, 1Ghz processor, 20 Gb harddisk and also Windows XP SP3 operating
    system installed just in case;)
    I suppose that I need to use WQL queries. Could you please provide examples, I could not find it.

    Maybe this already helps you a lot and saves you a lot of time. There is a builtin report Reports \ Upgrade Assesment \
    Upgrade assessment summary.
    This report displays the upgrade assessment summary. Use this report to assess the overall status for upgrade compatibility. It has builtin checks for Windows 7 x86/x64 and Windows 8 x86/x64.

  • X99S Gaming 9 ACK - power supply compatibility - JPWR2 and JPWR3- Status code 00

    Hello,
    Setting up a newly purchased X99S Gaming 9 ACK, and would appreciate any help.  Can't get past status code 00 and am in debug mode.
    First step in my debug process, I'm trying to confirm power supply requirements.   The board has two 12V input connectors - JPWR2 and JPWR3.  The manual mentions them both.  However, my power supply only has one 12V "EPS12V" cable with an 8 pin connector that can be separated into 4+4.
    A quick search did not turn up any power supplies that come stock with two 12V cables.  This seemed odd, so I searched for information for JPWR2 and JPWR3 hoping to find something and what turned up was somewhat contradictory.  Some info out there seems to suggest that powering one of the two would be OK if not overclocking.  So I tried that - first just JPWR3, then split the power connector and did just JPWR2, then did JPWR2 and part of JPWR3....and then just to confirm what I thought I was seeing (that 00 status is telling me the CPU's not active) I removed everything from both JPWR2 and JPWR3.  In all cases, the status code was 00.
    So I'm looking to find out how folks with this MB actually working have connected the power.
    Question 1:  Does anyone run it without having both JPWR2 and JPWR3 connected?  If so, what approach do you use?
    Question 2:  Does anyone run it having them both connected?  If so, please let me know what power supply you use.  I am guessing maybe a configurable cable sort could be set up with two 12V lines?
    I know, it's possible with no known-good components (well, the power supply is freshly removed from a happily functioning PC, so it's not suspect) I may have either a bad CPU or a bad MB.  And they are both brand new and eminently returnable.  But I don't want to do that till I know I've got them powered correctly.  I'm relatively confident (well, hopeful) that having the correct power supply setup will let me get past 00 status code and see what else I get to debug.
    Thanks in advance for any and all help.

    Thanks for the input.  Reset CMOS, removed all but the first stick of RAM.  No change.  Status code 00.
    Initial PS was the Corsair TX750W.  I got another power supply to test that has cables to fill both JPWR2 and JPWR3.  No change.  Status code 00.
    So, apparently a DOA Motherboard.  Was afraid of that.  Sending it back to try again.

  • What is the status of N73 Ngage Compatibility?

    It has been more than 5-6 months now, and the more they delay, the more stupid it seem to support N73 and N93 for NGage.
    So what actually is Nokia's official stand on this at present?
    Giving the N73 users a rebate to update to N78 or N79 seems more logical.

    Nokia have always been fond of abandoning old phones in terms of software updates and application compatibilty to concentrate on new models. i sincerely doubt nokia will add on n-gae support for the n73 even if your lucky enough for a software update.

  • K1 questions - arabic software compatibility, game compatibility, status of ICS update?

    1 ironiclly k1 have arabic systems in menues . And not comptile with arabic softwre market. Office apps -words are not comected
    2 decie specs is no difference than xoom . And games are incpotiale unless i root and change to xoom!
    3 i dont want to root since ICS is soon .. As MEEP in lenovo News about third world region wil get the update.

    I believe usnsws means:
    1. Why does the K1 have an Arabic language setting, yet it is not compatible with Arabic language apps? (I think this is a complaint about the rendering of Arabic fonts in some apps)
    2. The specs are similar to the Motorola Xoom, but some games can't be played unless the device is rooted and the build.prop is edited so apps think the K1 is a Xoom.
    3. When will ICS be available?
    And my thoughts on these questions:
    1. I believe Arabic rendering was fixed properly in Android ICS - this would explain why it's not perfect on the K1, but will hopefully be fixed with the ICS update.
    2. I'd tentatively suggest that if a game doesn't work until build.prop is edited to change the device name, it's probably the fault of the game. Can anyone confirm this is true? (could be the case with Gameloft games?)
    3. Keep an eye on the K1 ICS thread.

  • Installation issue on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS

    Hello,
    Machine info : 2 GB RAM 80+160 GB PATA Hard disk P4 32 bit architecture
    OS : Fresh installation of Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
    Oracle: 11gR2
    With above details i am installaing Oracle 11gR2 on this machine. I have completed all the pre-installation task and i ignored all when it prompts for required packages :
    make-3.80
    binutils-2.15.92.0.2
    gcc-3.4.6
    libaio-0.3.105
    glibc-2.3.4-2.41
    compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3
    elfutils-libelf-devel-0.97
    glibc-common-2.3.4
    glibc-devel-2.3.4
    gcc++-3.4.6

    sysstat-5.0.5
    unixODBC-2.2.11
    unixODBC-devel-2.2.11
    pdksh-5.2.14
    I ignored all these required packages, because when i check in system; ubuntu has installed its higher numberred versions. Installation worked upto 69% and now it is showing :

    collect2: ld returned 1 exit statusThis error could be due to using newer versions of software. Backwards compatibility is not always guaranteed.
    The libagtsh.so refers to an external procedure/function call nfyboot - this should be resolved by the dynamic link loader. It should load the shared object (.so or DLL in Windows-speak) that contains the implementation of that proc. Only, this fails and it cannot resolve the external call made by libagtsh.so to this proc.
    To troubleshoot this you can use the ldd command to see what the external references of a .so is and whether these can be resolved. E.g. Oracle XE on Ubuntu.
    oracle:/usr/lib/oracle/xe> ldd $ORACLE_HOME/lib/libagtsh.so
            linux-gate.so.1 =>  (0xb7ff2000)
            libdl.so.2 => /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libdl.so.2 (0xb7c71000)
            libm.so.6 => /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libm.so.6 (0xb7c4b000)
            libpthread.so.0 => /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libpthread.so.0 (0xb7c31000)
            libnsl.so.1 => /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libnsl.so.1 (0xb7c18000)
            libc.so.6 => /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.so.6 (0xb7ab5000)
            /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0xb7ff3000)There could be a missing .so - it could use a newer .so that no longer implements that proc call. This could require installing using backwards compatibility packages via apt-get.
    So it will require some troubleshooting on your part.
    Just keep in mind though that this is (as yet) an uncertified distro - only XE installs out-of-the-box on it. Canonical wants to change this and become a certified o/s for Oracle I believe... which would be great as it is one of the better Debian distros IMO.

  • Wireless configuration for HP OfficeJet 6500A plus All-In-One printer on Ubuntu 10.04

    I have bought a HP OfficeJet 6500A plus All-In-One printer CN557A, which I want to use with ubuntu 10.04 64-bit as a wireless network printer.
    Before i bought i checked compatibility on www.hplipopensource.org and www.openprinting.org, and all was in order.
    The machine is autodetected and fully functional when connected with a usb cable, but i have not managed to get it to work as a wireless printer.
    This is what I did:
    I configured the printer on the wireless network (through the printer interface), and it connects. It prints out a "Wireless Network Test Report", and everything works. I can ping to its local ip adress, and access it through the browser. HP eprint also works.
    I installed hplip 3.11.10 and dependencies manually. I did this because the default hplip in ubuntu 10.04 did not recognise the device.
    I ran 'hp-check', which gave no errors or warnings:
    tjoff@mek-403-jakbo-01:~$ hp-check

    1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling the
    HPLIP supplied tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to determine if the proper dependencies
    are installed to successfully compile HPLIP.
    2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro
    supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied tarball
    has the proper dependencies installed to successfully run.
    3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode
    will check both of the above cases (both compile- and run-time dependencies).

    I then ran 'sudo hp-setup', chose the device (which was detected), chose my wireless network, entered the wireless security key. On the configuration results dialog I get two messages:
    "Your printer has been succesfully configured on the wireless network. You may now unplug the USB cable"
    and
    "The Ethernet cable is plugged in which will prevent you from connecting to a wireless network. To connect wirelessly, remove the cable and try again. (VSA000)"
    There is no ethernet cable plugged in, so i can't remove it. I unplug the USB cable and click 'finish'. This makes the 'hp-setup'-dialog start over again, and the printer has not been installed.
    In the terminal i have the following:
    tjoff@mek-403-jakbo-01:~$ sudo hp-setup

    A friendly soul on ubuntuforums pointed out to me, that the wireless configuration is only necessary when the printer is NOT connected to a (W)LAN. So all I really had to do was to configure the printer in the CUPS administation page, and it worked. Problem solved. Silly me.

    hi
    please find the installation given below
    ===========================================================
    Download the following software:
    Enterprise Manager Downloads
    For convenience you may want to download the agent distribution separately. If you are monitoring servers on different platforms the relevant agents must be downloaded.
    Unpack Files
    First unzip the grid control installation files:
    unzip Linux_Grid_Control_full_102010_disk1.zip
    unzip Linux_Grid_Control_full_102010_disk2.zip
    unzip Linux_Grid_Control_full_102010_disk3.zip
    Hosts File
    The /etc/hosts file must contain a fully qualified name for the server:
    <IP-address> <fully-qualified-machine-name> <machine-name>
    Set Kernel Parameters
    Modify the /etc/sysctl.conf file to include the lines appropriate to your operating system:
    # Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 and CentOS 3.x
    kernel.shmmax = 2147483648
    kernel.shmmni = 4096
    kernel.shmall = 2097152
    kernel.shmmin = 1
    kernel.shmseg = 10
    # semaphores: semmsl, semmns, semopm, semmni
    kernel.sem = 250 32000 100 128
    fs.file-max = 65536
    # Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.0 and CentOS 4.x
    kernel.shmmax = 536870912
    kernel.shmmni = 4096
    kernel.shmall = 2097152
    # semaphores: semmsl, semmns, semopm, semmni
    kernel.sem = 250 32000 100 128
    fs.file-max = 65536
    net.ipv4.ip_local_port_range = 1024 65000
    net.core.rmem_default=262144
    net.core.rmem_max=262144
    net.core.wmem_default=262144
    net.core.wmem_max=262144
    Run the following command to change the current kernel parameters:
    /sbin/sysctl -p
    Disable secure linux by editing the /etc/selinux/config file, making sure the SELINUX flag is set as follows:
    SELINUX=disabled
    Alternatively, this alteration can be done using the GUI tool (Applications > System Settings > Security Level). Click on the SELinux tab and disable the feature.
    Setup
    The documentation states that the following packages are required by the relevant operating systems:
    # Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 and CentOS 3.x
    glibc-2.2.4-31.7
    make-3.79
    binutils-2.11.90.0.8-12
    gcc-2.96
    openmotif21-2.1.30-11
    # Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.0 and CentOS 4.x
