E55 camera flash goes off too early

Just discovered this so I imagine it's developed a fault, but I thought I'd ask if anyone else has the same problem. When I take a picture with flash, the flash fires before the camera shutter opens so the picture comes out dark. Any suggestions, please, or shall I just carry another camera?

Hi mindmagic,
Sorry to hear about the issue. Please make a backup with Nokia Suite. Then reinstall the phone software. The process is the same as when updating with Nokia Suite, but at the end select "Reinstall".
You can also type in *#7780# followed by lock code (default is 12345). This is soft reset, no data lost. The settings will be restored to factory state.
Hope this helps!

I haven't seen it reported on the S4, but several S3 users mentioned it after the latest update that phone received.  You might try going to Settings > Accessibility > Flash notification ... if the box is checked, uncheck it.  If it isn't checked, check it and then uncheck it.  I'd suggest then restarting the phone.

    @martin,
The LED-on-message is a feature that can be enabled/disabled in Settings/General/Accessibility.
However, if you don't have this feature enabled, there's a bug in your phone...
This is the feature description, taken from the latest iPhone User Guide:
If you can’t hear the sounds that announce incoming calls and other alerts, you can have iPhone flash its LED (next to the camera lens on the back of the iPhone). This works only when iPhone is locked or asleep. Available for iPhone 4 or later.
Turn on LED Flash for Alerts: Go to Settings > General > Accessibility > LED Flash for Alerts.

Chances are you saved the file as a jpg -- which does not support transparency.
Save the file as a psd or tiff and see if that solves the problem.

  • T5i EOS rebel - spark/buzzing sound when flash goes off!

Hi everyone, I just got my T5i and it makes a really strange spark sound when the built in flash goes off. Is this a faulty camera?

No, that's not a problem or fault with the camera.
That's normal. It's a very short duration, partial power flash that the camera fires before the full power flash, to measure the distance to subject and amount of light needed by the flash when it fires. A "pre-flash", if you will.

    Hello there, JDHMB.
You might want to close out all apps first and foremost:
iOS: Force an app to close
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137
Then it might be worth attempting a restart of the iPhone, and then a reset, should that not resolve the issue.
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting

If the sound is still being generated by the phone while using volume controls, you may want to try restoring the iPhone.

  • Alarm clock sometimes going off hour early.

I was under the impression that this alarm clock bug was only affecting people in other countries after daylight savings. However, it is happening to me in Chicago right now!
I noticed this yesterday when an alarm I use everyday, woke me up an hour early. it just did the same thing again today. I tried to "trick" it by setting an alarm this morning for an hour later, but strangly it went of at the time I actually set it for.
Anyone else having this problem in the USA?

Yes, since last weekend, an alarm is now going off an hour early every day. Hope you get an answer.

  • Flash goes off but photo is dark

Hi there!  I'm sure this question must have been asked before, but couldn't find it during a quick search.  I have a T3i that's about 18 months old. Just about a month ago, the flash started doing strange things. One picture would be fine, but the next and subsequent shots are dark, even though the flash DOES flash. An example from tonight is shown below.  I've cleared all the settings, used a new memory card, checked my lens to make sure it's on autofocus.  Originally I blamed the battery because it would no longer hold a charge, so I bought a new one. No change. I'm stumped...  Any ideas?

That brings up an interesting point, and I'm not sure the answer.  My first thought was that it's not a recycling issue, because you said that it does flash, and it wouldn't do so if it was recycling.  But that said, I'm not sure how the flash functions with eTTL in a low battery situation.  When shooting in eTTL the camera first fires a pre-flash, measure how much light it needs, then the actual flash.  I'm not sure how the camera would react if it doesn't have enough energy for the full flash, but it makes sense that it would fire the pre-flash if it had enough energy, since it won't know how much energy is required for the actual flash until it tests it with a pre-flash.
I'm assuming you're using the flash on the camera, which means it's pulling energy from the same source it uses to power the camera.  So I'm sure there's a large recycle time.  The more I think about it, the more I think the above scenario is exactly what's happening.  Battery wear certainly would affect it, as would the conditions you're shooting in and the camera settings.  The darker the room and/or camera settings (e.g. fash shutter speed, small aperture, low ISO) the more the flash needs to compensate, and thus more power it needs.  I'd guess that the camera battery can't provide very many full power flashes.
If you're frequently using flash for your photography I would highly, highly recommend an external flash unit.  You could pick up a Yongnuo 565EX for under $100.  External units provide you with much more flexibility, better quality light, more power, more flashes, faster recycle time, and it doesn't take energy from your camera battery.  If, eventually, you decide to try "off-camera flash", you would see a significant improvement in the quality of your food photography.

  • Defaul Camera Flash to Off, not Auto

Is there a way to do this? I know multi-tasking will, but if I close the camera app, I want to be able to open the app with the flash default to OFF.

  • Flash Action Happening Too Early

I'm attempting to have a flash video file play before loading a web site.
The way I'm doing it is to import an FLV video that I created in AE, into Flash, set the frame rate of the Flash to that of the (video 24fps) and add an action at frame 241 which calls the URL of the home page to be loaded.
On the authoring workstation, it seems to work okay... the .swf file plays (in VLC Media Player) and then a web browser opens.
Once this .swf and its associated html file are uploaded to the server, the video, instead of playing all 240 frames, plays about 40-42 frames and then loads the web site.
I spent hours searching for another embedded time code somewhere in the html file, and went over the flash project over and over again, but could not find a command that was making it dump and load the home page prematurely.
What could be causing this behavior, and how could I go about correcting it so that the entire 10-second video is played before the site loads the home page?

Initially, I had simply imported it as streaming video, but I redid the whole file, after reading your reply above, and discovered how to embed it in the timeline. However, the results are the same, even though the command to load mwhdvideo.com is at frame 241. I can't understand why it skips 80% of the remaining frames and just goes to the "load web page" behavior.
Now if I open the index.html on a local PC, it will run the full 10-seconds of video and then pop up a security warning about Flash trying to open a page on another domain or something similar. But once it is on the server, it no longer waits 10 seconds and cuts over to the home page after just 2 seconds. I've run out of ideas.
    UPDATE:
Just for kicks, I tried an experiment: I removed the behavior command at the end of the flash file (the one that loads the home page) and tried it both on the local PC and on the server:
The local copy played through and continued repeat looping the video without ever calling the home page.
The copy uploaded to the server played the first 40 frames or so and forwarded to the home page.
I'm starting to think it's not the flash file, but something peculiar going on when it's on a live server...
