E55 (& E52?) 33.002 skipping music workaround

I updated my E55 to 33.002 this morning to solve my bluetooth problems after a hard reset to avoid as many problems as possible.  Unfortunately I swapped an irritating problem for a real showstopper - practically all my music tracks were skipped over by the music player.
After alot of fiddling it looks as though it was just the M4A files causing problems - the MP3 files played perfectly.  Converting the M4A files to vanilla MP3 files stops the skipping.  Not a real solution but at least I have a usable music player again.

Found this very interesting webpage on the pros and cons of different codecs and which one is usually the best/most efficient for mobile use

  • Skipping music, "sector error" & lower than usual capacity

I've had this incarnation of my (20gb) iPod photo for a few months, and it's worked fine until now. I went out with it the other night, and it played well for the several hours I needed it. The next day as I was going home, the music started skipping in the middle of a song: say I was listening to Song A one second, the next it was playing the middle of Song B. It still said I was playing Song A, and I could scroll the song back to the start, and it did the same thing once it reached a certain point. I thought hmm about it and went on to another song, only to have it happen again. So I reset the iPod, and when it came to it wasn't recognising any music as being on there.
Apparently it hadn't wiped the hard drive entirely, because when I got home I was able to get most of the movie files I've had stored on there off onto my PC. Out of maybe 12 700mb files, 3 came up with errors. I can't remember the wording and I'm annoyed I didn't write it down, but I know the phrase 'sector error' was involved somewhere.
But this and the skipping led me to restore the iPod. HOWEVER, when I did this and went to put my music back on, I found that iTunes was now reading the iPod's total capacity as 16.01Gb (it's now changed to 16.03), as opposed to the usual 18.62Gb it should be. I also restored the drive through Windows, to no avail. Windows Explorer also sees it as 16Gb.
My meagre research and vague understanding of the topic has led me to believe that the movie files and the skipping music had to do with the sector errors, and that bits of the hard drive have somehow become corrupted. This might also explain why 2.5Gb aren't being recognised by anybody. I've had music on the capacity-amputated iPod since, and there have been no problems with playback since (perhaps because it doesn't want to use that 2.5Gb anymore). Does anyone know how I can get back my full capacity, or is this one of those send-it-back-to-Apple type issues?
20Gb iPod w/ colour display Windows XP

Nope. All the tracks play fine on my powermac. I tried the solution in the link you posted last night; didn't work. I'm not sure what to do. I keep getting the 'disk could not be read or written to' error. It's annoying.
PS: To the other guy, restore your ipod. Try it a few times until it says it was successful. Then in itunes, after a transfer fails, rightclick on the ipod and click 'update' for hte calanders and stuff. It kinda 'wakes it up' a bit so you can add a few more songs before it wigs out.

  • ITunes Match/iOS 7 iPhone music workaround for excessive data usage?

I just got an email from AT&T indicating I had exceeded 150GB of home data usage this month. It was because I used my home wifi to download 5000 songs to my iPhone from iTunes Match to fill it.
I'm frustrated, since it used to be so easy to make iTunes Match work for a large amount of music: In iOS 6 what I used to do (if I had to restore iPhone and set up as new phone): Plug iPhone 5 into computer, set up phone as new, check "manually manage music and videos" and "prefer 128kbps" and make sure iTunes Match was off in phone settings. Then drag & drop 5000 songs (about 40GB) from iTunes into phone. Once that was completed (a couple of hours), I could disconnect the iPhone from my Mac, turn iTunes Match to "on" in phone settings, and I'd get a message on the phone saying "All music on this device will be replaced" which is fine, but other than taking a while to update the remainder of my iCloud stored music, it used very little data.
Fast-forward to this past weekend. After updating to iOS 7.0.2 and having to do a restore and set up as new iPhone, this approach didn't work: When the step came "All music on this device will be replaced," all of the 5000 songs entirely re-downloaded all over again, which took 27 hours and burned through 40+ GB of home data (not phone data, since I was on Wifi). I kept my phone at home, plugged in and on wifi all weekend so as not to burn through all of my LTE data.
What is the deal? If I have to do this again (let's hope iOS 7.0.3 or 7.1 doesn't force my phone into recovery mode again), I certainly don't have the time or patience to let iTunes Match redownload all music again, and I certainly don't want to use up 40+ GB of home data.
Is there a workaround for this? Have others been successful transferring music via computer first and then turning on Match without problem in iOS 7.0.2? I'm sure it worked that way in iOS 6, and without completely redownloading all the music again, since that process would have taken several hours and a lot of home data, and I have not had any problems like this prior to iOS 7.

I think a better question is why do you "have to" restore your iPhone and set it up as a new device as often as you seem to? This seems to be more of a problem for you.
I followup question is why do you have iTunes Match turned on if you're syncing all your music to your iPhone?
Perhaps you should examine how you're using your iPhone and iTunes Match?

To answer this question, yes I have. It has always worked this way for me.

  • IPod touch 4g skips music on bluetooth

I have a new iPod touch 4th Gen with iOS6.1.3 and bought it to play music in my car, a 2011 Toyota Aurion (Camry) with a standard Toyota audio system which has bluetooth. I also have an iPhone 4 using iOS 5.1.1 - there is no issue at all playing music through the car audio with the iPhone nor any other device I have other than the iPod.
The problem is with my iPod touch. I have synced it to my car's audio but when I start to play music it will skip for a while and settles down and it seems ok. Sometimes it never settles down and other times I wait for a few minutes before I press play and everything is OK. If I only have a 10 minute drive half of that time I spend trying to get the ipod working properly. The iPod works perfectly with the audio if I use the 3.5mm plug but I lose most steerng wheel controls as they work only with bluetooth, other than volume.
I have re-paired it several times, done phone resets, etc. but nothing changes. From what I've read it seems to be an iOS 6 issue and others have managed to fix this by updating their car audio's bluetooth. I don't think there is an update for the Toyota audio system.
Any other ideas? It is FRUSTRATING buying a new device only for it not to work 100%. Everything else om the iPod works as it should.
Would appreciate possitive assistance with this. Thanks.

    Hello Ramjet7,
Congratulations on your new iPod touch!  It is definitely frustrating when you cannot get the full use of a new device.
I found an article that has some tips for troubleshooting Bluetooth connectivity with third-party devices including car kits.  I recommend reviewing the sections titled "Intermittent iOS-to-Bluetooth accessory connectivity" and "Cannot connect to a paired device" in the following article:

  • Ipad2 skipping music during playback / too sensitive to vibration

Hope somebody may help. I use to listen to music in my car, so I connect my iPad2 to the car sound system using the USB cable. Just yesterday, the music started skipping. That is, at any point in the song it will stop and jump to the next one without finishing the one it was previouly playing. Also, a couple of times, it sounded like a scratched CD, repeating the same notes over and over in an endles loop. This last problem got corrected when I unplugged the cable and reconected it again.
I also noticed that the skipping took place every time the car vibrated. For example, when passing a street bump, or when the pavement was not perfectly smooth. Can it be that something is loose inside the iPad causing a disconection, or would it be a software issue? I just upgraded to iOS 7.1.1, so it might be my nerves about the vibration, being actually caused by the operative system. I also listen to ebooks in the iPad, but the problem seems not to be happening when listening to ebooks, even with vibration.
Any insigths will be highly appreciated.
    Carlos.

I would recommend either calling and see what the they say. Be sure to reset the settings in your iPod, then do a factory restore to see if that helps.
If you take it in, they will usually swap it out with another first gen. If they don't have any first gen in the store, they will have one shipped to the store and you just have to go pick it up. If you get it replaced though, since it will be a mint refurbished one, they still have high resale values. You could always ebay it and just use the money toward a 3rd gen. That will be a big jump from first to third.

  • Apple TV remote skips music tracks when navigating menu

I've just set up my Apple TV and paired it to my Macbook through home-sharing. However, when I'm navigating the main menu (using the Apple TV remote), it will pause/skip/go back on the music tracks that are playing, as well as moving between menu items. Is there any way to keep the same track playing without skipping it every time you click the remote?
I have set up the remote app on my phone which doesnt seem to suffer the same issue but I'd like to use the tv remote if possible.
    Thanks

Go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy. Click Advanced in the lower right. Click "Disable remote control infrared receiver."

  • Skipping music

I know that other topics have been posted about their IPod skipping through the songs without playing anything. That is not my problem. My Ipod video/photo will start playing just fine and then all of a sudden (at various times and not always) it will skip to another song play that for a bit perhaps 2 songs or so, but then it returns and starts playing the original again. Has done this with audio books as well. I have not used the video much so have not noticed it. I do remember that my Ipod mini would do it on occasion but my son has that and has not said anything. Also the IPod is always stationary on the desk or where ever but not while I am walking although it has happend then as well.
    Thanks

  • Can i skip music when on general shuffle but play it in a playlist?

Quick question, I am currently adding some Christmas music to my iPod, I would like for it to be skipped when on general shuffle but to still shuffle when in a playlist. Is this possible?
When I select "skip when shuffling" it doesn't play the music when on a normal shuffle, but then again it just plays the same order of music in the playlist - no shuffle possible. Kind of a catch 22. Any help?

When I select "skip when shuffling" it doesn't play the music when on a normal shuffle
That is how it's supposed to work.
but then again it just plays the same order of music in the playlist - no shuffle possible.
Correct. You don't wnat these to play when Shuffle is selected so they don't.
They will only play in order.
    It's not a catch-22 at all.

  • My iPod keeps skipping music after I upgraded to IOS 7, I would tap a song and it wouldn't play all 308 of my songs, it would skip

I can't play my music, it keeps skipping when I tap on it. I tried everything and nothing is working. Thank you so much in advance. I appreciate it!

If your music was purchased in iTunes you can always redownload it for free... but without any backups.. there's no other way to get the music back.

  • Iphone 6 ios8 skipping music

Having recently purchased the new IPhone 6 and connecting it to ITunes to sync all my stuff, all my apps, ringtones, books and photos have all gone on perfectly ok except my music.  I have ticked the box in ITunes for the IPhone to install all my music but when It has finished the sync I go onto my phone into music it just starts to skip and has only installed some songs and not all them.  I have tried to manually install the ones that have the cloud next to them but after pressing the cloud it looks as if it will install but then the cloud appears next to the song again.
I have tried to restore the phone back to factory settings a few times but once I do that and connect it back up to ITunes to sync it just freezes so I have to switch the phone off and on again

I found something much easier.  Re: Iphone 6 128gig Bluetooth problem.  The fix is on this page.  Now you may want to remove your BT from pairing, reset your iPhone 6 and repair, that's what I did.  After getting rid of th garbage in the iCloud, it's working fine now.

  • Skipping Music...Please help!

Today my music started skipping a whole bunch, on both iTunes and Windows Media Player. But when it skips on iTunes the music transitions into getting really distorted sounding. There are extra sounds messing up the music that sound all hiccupy and vibrating.
This may have nothing to do with iTunes, but I just wondered why it was so bad with iTunes, just checking to see if it has happened to anyone else and if so is there any way to fix it. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have had the same problem. I first noticed it when I purchased my first video from iTunes. The video and audio didn't sync and the audio was garbled. It didn't immediately affect my regular iTunes music files, but did after I rebooted the next time. I had 6.0.2 installed then. Thought it would make a difference to upgrade to 6.0.3, but the exact same problem. Music plays fine in Quicktime 7 (no snap, crackle pop). The actual files and computer seem to be unaffected. It's something buggy with iTunes.
I tried the MSconfig trick to shut down other processes to check for conflicts - no help.
I tried going through device manager and found that the IDE reinstall fix didn't work either shown here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=351805&tstart=0
I have also enabled and disabled Volume Logic and iTunes own sound options to no avail.
Still desperately looking for an answer here. Very frustrated. I have not had problems with iTunes previous to this and can't find anything that changed except for adding the video.
    Help!!!!

  • Apple TV skips music

Audio playback on my Apple TV has been having very quick delays, maybe half a second, then continues playing. It's pretty random but getting very annoying. Anyone had a similar issue?
Yes, has happened randomly for me for over a year on at least 2 AppleTVs.
Usually happens when watching video/music videos, the audio briefly drops out but video is unaffected. Also can happen with music occasionally. Do you see it with video?
I'm not convinced it's a network issue though can't entirely discount that,as my router occasionally hangs, but I think it's often a case of AppleTV struggling to do all playback/background tasks from time to time, maxing out cpu usage, and audio being affected somehow.
Some users have found it doesn't seem to happen if iTunes is closed, raising the possibility of some non-playback/streaming related communication process affecting the AppleTV. Some have found unchecking 'Look for AppleTV's' in iTunes has helped.
Lastly, it may be a sign of early hardware failure, most likely logic board or hard drive. One of mine that regularly did this eventually gave up the ghost.

  • Why is my iPod touch skipping music?

I just downloaded the iOS 5 on my iPod touch and it starting to skip some of my songs. And it also mixed up my album covers, like the album, Recovery, by Eminem will have the album cover, A Thousand Suns, by Linkin Park.

do you have shuffle turned on? that would explain the mixing up songs, but not the album covers mixing up.
