E60 firmware update @ Nokia Service Center

Folks,
when the E60 firmware update came out I already did know that I a have to visit the local Nokia Service Center (in Vienna) to get the firmware update, because I am a Mac User. These funny guys at the local Service Center then updated the firmware to the same version which was already installed?! Very smart... finally I found out that there is no firmware update for the E60 available at the Nokia Service Center at the moment. There is a chance that this will happen some day in near future...
Come on Nokia; how does this work?!? Every PC user can download the update from the Nokia site but the folks at the local service centers have to search in their print-outs if their is any update available - sounds anachronistic, doesn't it?
So, can anybody tell me, when I can expect the E60 firmware update to arrive at the local Nokia Service Centers (in Austria)?
Thanks,
bj

The warranty with the phone is only valid in the Country / area in which it was sold.
The ebay seller in the US probably got it cheaper abroad, and sold it on... Even if it was from the USA, the service centres wouldn't update it for you.
The only thing you can do is keep checking the Nokia Software Updater

  • Suggestion for next firmware update - Nokia 5800

If anyone from nokia is reading this in the next firmware update for the Nokia 5800 XM can we have the facility of have the name of the title track of a song scroll from left to right whilst the song is playing, as at the moment it scrolls once and then stops so if its a song with a long title all you can see is just half the title after its scrolled once, and also maybe a way as the song is playing of seeing the details of the song playing (like the tags for artist, Kbps, song title, album name) by clicking the onscreen softkey/options button. And also this can be extended to the contacts list where the name will scroll from left to right to show the full contact name when you press on it, at the moment it doesn't do that.

Unfortunately the care centres are the only people that can help you.
Any other methods that you may read about on other forums will void your warranty and cannot be discussed here.

  • G460 bios update at service center only????

    http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/12985356555620
Recommend to visit a service center as the bios update can only be done "in-house"....
As i am out of warrenty what does it mean? do i have to pay or can i do it myslef?

That is exactly what I expected and did...
Unluckily for me, I am in the Philippines and Filipino don't give a **bleep** about that kind of things. I was appalled to find out that Lenovo doesn't care enough to bring their standards to the Philippines and "train" their staff NOT to act like Filipino... but sadly it is not the case.
I was told that I could go to a service center (in another city of course) and they refuse to tell me if I would have to pay anything or why I would have to pay anything as Lenovo doesn't offer any other recourse or even if the said service center could do the upgrade at all. (again in the Philippines, you can't trust the service centers because they are not part of Lenovo and culturally ppl here don't listen to the words one says but guesses and often result in you traveling miles to be told that they are out-of-stock or else.
It's CULTURALY NORMAL but I HOLD LENOVO RESPONSABLE for that with all of my American standards (*even Chinese standards are fine with me as they bring some results at the very least)
As I did ask for "official" answer from Lenovo, the manager actually terminated all communication and refuse to reply with that last email as paradoxical as the message from Ashwin_Lenovo (which I assume is also Filipino and also obviously didn't even read the link that describe my situation. Remember me mention they don't read or listen but just spit-out the same BS over and over again...{DO IT YOURSELF here's the download link})
    Paradoxical BS Quote:
"It can be physically checked with service technician at service center if the system requires BIOS updates. However you can download BIOS updates for Lenovo G460(CBB1785918) from the link."
    - Kindly offering to have it "checked" as if that is not always a possibility for a fee with a 3rd party company(way to go Lenovo!!!)
    - So still disregarding Lenovo's own warning against that said resolution (it says it can't be done but Lenovo keep recommending to do it anyways, bravo Lenovo!!!)
Just like Ashwin_Lenovo, BS BS BS!

  • Firmware update via Java/USB/PCSuite?

    Hi@all:
Lets say Nokia solved some bugs on the N95.
Is it possible to update that new firmware via PC?
For example: I have Nokia Version "N95-1". And then there is the new updated version "N95-2".
Will it be possible to update the N95 with PC Suite OR do I have to send my N95 to the Nokia Service Center?
If it is possible, WHY are some people waiting to buy a N95??? They could buy it now and upgrade it anytime via PC Suite! OR?
    Thanks in adv.

The short answer is yes, many are updated that way. But not yet, if you keep checking on the Nokia software updater page you will see many updateable phones but not as yet the N95, I'd imagine as soon as an update is made available the N95 will be supported in this way.

  • E71 Firmware Update (200.21.118) - Possible Issue ...

For those of you who ignore the pre-update warning about removing the Memory Card Password, you may discover that the password you set is no longer working...
Sadly you'll only discover this after you've updated your E71, so there's no way to access it without the correct password...
I, rather foolishly, thought I knew better, and being 100% confident of the password, didn't remove it...
    Boy was I wrong...
Thankfully Psycho here suggested I try the "Remote Lock" password that I'd set previously, and that worked first time...
So if you've set the Remote Lock - try that as the password to your memory card
    Thanks again Psycho

Best way to go about this is to make a backup via the nokia pc suite and then run the nokia software updater... the warranty is still valid as it is an authorised and common way to upgrade your nokia.. if you have any concens or dont feel up to updating it yourself you could always visit your local nokia service center

If you were updating your N93 cell phone through the internet with Nokia Update Software and suddenly your cell phone shutdown on you and would not boot up or turn on, but the front small lcd screen just light up without information on it, please read on and follow the instructions below.
Make sure you have these things ready-
    1) PC or Laptop computer with at least 1 GHz with 512mb of memory.
    2) USB cable for the Nokia N93 cell phone.
    3) Fully charged battery for the cell phone.
    4) AC adapter for the cell phone and laptop computer if use
    5) Nokia PC Suite, Nokia Update Software( Download Updater Software if you don’t have it, then install it
    6) Last of course, your sick Nokia N93 cell phone.
1- Use a computer or a Laptop making sure it is plugged in to the AC outlets.
2- Download or insert the CD that came with the cell phone into the cd-rom drive “PC Nokia Suite” software then install (Only if you don’t have it installed yet).
3- Download the Nokia Updater Software from Nokia website. Then install it or reinstall it.
4- Open - Go to the “Device Manager” CLICK Start-Settings-Control Panel-System-Hardware-then Device Manager. Leave it open for monitoring the USB connection. Hence- The Device Manager will flicker when detecting the USB connection.
5- Open or double click on the Nokia PC Suite icon program.
6- Open or double click on the Nokia Updater icon program.
Open all three programs and minimize it to fit all on the desktop screen. As shown below….
7- Now with your Sick N93 cell phone. Make sure that the SIM card is installed and the battery is fully charged! REMOVE-the memory card from the cell phone. And have the AC adapter ready and do not plug it in the cell phone yet just the battery installed. The back Cover of the cell phone must be off the back.
The N93 cell phone must be completely off with “NO FRONT SMALL LCD SCREEN LIT”. Please check to make sure it is off completely.
Now here are the procedures to revive your Nokia N93 cell phone. Please read carefully below.
Notice- This procedure will work with an N93 that still has the small front lcd background back light, still lighting up when the off /on button is pressed. This has not been done or tested with N93 that’s completely dead or with no signs of any power. But you can try it and just making sure that the battery is fully charged. But otherwise, this procedure worked with my N93 cell phone problem, avoiding Nokia Service Center.
1- If all instructions were followed above. Do the following- Install the USB cable on the cell phone and behind the computer or laptop? Do not turn it on yet!
2- Click the Nokia Update program the “Unable to find phone” TRY AGAIN tab and press the power on button on the phone. Watch the “Device Manager” flicker or sense the USB. Look at the Nokia Updater program to see if the phone has been detected. If detected, the cell phone information will be detected and show up on the screen within the updater program. If this happen, leave it alone and let it roll till it’s finished updating.
3- If nothing happens….do the following.
4- Remove the battery, AC adapter plug off the phone and the USB that is connected to the phone.
5- Now plug the USB connector to the phone first, then plug the AC adapter plug that goes on the phone and insert the battery.
6- Click on the “Unable to find the phone” TRY AGAIN tab. Then wait for the computer to detect the phone.
NOTE: This you may have to do it a few times. Keep trying and repeat the processes 4, 5 and 6 above this note. GOOD LUCK!

  • Firmware update 5310?

I know there is newer versions than my 9.42, but I'm scared to update, since the phone crashed about half a year ago and then was re-firmwared in Nokia Care Center.
While updated they also changed the language pack and I've heard from previous discussions, that the language pack will return back to the initial pack after I run the Software updater through PC-Suite.
Also I've tried to install a Java IRC-client from a webpage by Opere-Mini, no success there. Any recomendations, or should I just go home and d-load the aplication into my PC and then run the install with PC-Suite?

I just got the solution for my Nokia 3110 classic. Hope it will work for others.
My memory card was also asking for password after a firmware update though it was not password protected before upgradation. I tried in many ways. But didn't work. Today I just entered the administrator password of my pc which I generally use to back up data, file transfer, etc. And it worked for me.
Thanks to God. Because the Nokia Care people had already confirmed that this memory card is damaged and I should buy a new one. I had a lot of useful data on my card which I could recovered by myself today.
And yes.. If you are able to get back all your data, please don't forget to remove the password from  the memory card by using the option given in the Memory card.

  • Canadian firmware update

I just got my first firmware update through Service Station. My Thrive has gone from 0003 to 0006. Still seems a long way behind the US firmware but maybe it's just named differently in Canada. Hopeful that this may have some positive effect on my SOD and random reboot issues.

A few days ago I held my breath and upgraded my Canadian AT100 to Android 3.2.1 using the built-in Toshiba utility, was running 3.1.03.5.0006 and now running 3.2.1.33.5.0003.  No real reason to upgrade because it was all working fine before.  Knock on wood, I haven't had any major problems..
    1.  I don't really use the SD Card for anything much.
    2.  Update took a really long time (10-15 minutes) and I thought it had locked up when it was booting for the first time.
    3.  WiFi seems a *little* less consistent than before.  WiFi light often stays on when its sleeping AND it occasionally doesn't seem to connect up so quick after sleeping; under WiFi options it will say "Error" a few times before connecting. Battery life doesn't seem any different either way.
    4.  A few applications (Evernote, Gallery, RoboForm) seemed to temporarily break after the upgrade, fixed by going to Applications, and Clearing user data.
Screen response seems slightly faster since the upgrade but it might be my imagination.  After the first month of wondering and debating if I'd bought the right tablet and finally giving up on the idea of returning it or selling it, only then did I really begin to enjoy my Thrive.  Was concerned that Netflix and video on Skype would never come but now I'm happy they did.  Wasn't really too bothered about the upgrade from 3.1 to 3.2 and I'm not really bothered about the upgrade to 4.0 (ICS).  While it's always nice to have the latest and greatest, I don't really see any killer features added.

  • Very bad service center in noida

I have purchased nokia C-5, IMEI No.******************, on 12/9/2010 since then the hand set is giving trouble  and it was sent to nokia service center at Micronas  Telecom c-4,sec-2,Noida, on dated 24/09/2010, job sheet no.153433527/100924/124.  As per this job sheet the service center has mentioned that application has crashed and it will be serviced. After servicing I was handover handset on 4/10/2010 and found that back panel of the phone gradually become loose while using which caused program not running properly and handset frequently hanging.
Due to this I am wasting lot of time to visit the above service centre which has no result. I will be very grateful if my hand set either changed or repair properly as it is useless for me to use in this condition.  You are requested to resolve the above problem at the earliest.
This is in case reference number is 1-11189273826 and reference to your email dated 16.10.2010, wherein it has been intimated that the phone in question has been tempered.  In this context I have already mentioned in my earlier mail that  after receiving the hand set from service centre, it was  giving problem like back panel of the phone gradually become loose while using which caused program not running properly and handset frequently hanging for which the hand set had been delivered 8.10.2010 at MICRONAS Telecom  service centre. The job sheet No. 153433527/101008/131  dated 08/10/2010 indicates that  handset   display is blank, battery overheating, however  the hand set was in working condition.
It is once again requested to look into the matter and resolve the problem immediately as the handset was lying at the above service centre from 24.9.2010 to 4.10.2010 and it is still lying again at the above service from 8.10.2010 to never tempered by me and in-between 4.10.2010 to 8.10.2010 I was continuously speaking with your engineer Mr. Ved and Sumit  during 5.10.2010 to 6.10.2010 of above service centre.  On their suggestions I had delivered the above hand set as they have promised me that it is a minor problem and it will be  get it done immediately.  Being a NOKIA hand user for the last six years, I feel very dishearten  for such allegation for tempering the mobile handset.

  • Intolerable policy on firmware updates by Nokia

I've bought my phone from a website shop (language FI).
However the add stated the language would be english only. It was a false statement. It should have said Mid-European language pack.
Anyhow the policy of asking people to update firmware as the new versions are released quite often is something different.
Since I wanted to have Scandinavian language pack and T9-vocabularly as well, I asked for an online service for the language pack. No such thing within Software updater.
Instead Nokia suggests to go to nearest Care Center to change the languages, which will inevidently become reset to the default after firmware update depending on where the device was orginally manufactured for.
There is a service fee on the language pack change and selfswap would influence the guarentee. I wonder how the manufacturer would pleed, if this matter were taken into the EU Comissions free trade board. I got my phone shipped within the EU.
If I go to the same Care Center to update the language pack again after doing what Nokia promotes - updating the firmware - I'm very much in doubt, that the Care Center will load the languages again for free.

    Not quite.
According to the discussions on this board the true nature of changing languages on a phone has not been revieled to customers in advance. That is what the issue here is.
The Brits have not changed to EUCU, yet UK is a member. There are some things that are and some, that seems. This is among those that seem, but ain't.

Daniel, have you tried emptying your phone memory? It might be that the update is not working, cuz the phone runs out of memory. Try clearing your browsers cache and cookies, deinstalling all software installed in phone memory, disable any downloaded theme, empty your mailbox (if it is in phone-mem), and move your photo's and videos to your memory card. Then reboot and try again.

  • Nokia E71 - Product 0578223 No firmware update

I have had my E71 for over 12 months now and had no issues, all of a sudden the device keeps turning itself off and is quite slow and unresponsive.
I checked for an update on the Nokia Update Checker site and on entering the following details:
    Product Code: 0578223
It states there is no updates, I find this quite bizarre when I see people on the net using 300.xx.xxx
I have phoned my provider Orange (UK) and they state to contact Nokia.
Anyone else having issues with this product code, or know of a solution to getting a firmware update?
My current firmware on the device is 200.21.118

Herewith my reply from Nokia Support:
Thank you for contacting Nokia Careline.
In response to your concern, we understand that you would like to update your phone's firmware. However, upon checking your phone's product code 059H6F1, the firmware version that is available for your phone is software version 021.014. For your reference, you may visit the link below:
    http://www.nokia.co.uk/appmanager/UnitedKingdomEnglishNOKIA_UK_23/Get_support;JSESSIONID_NCOM=G2ZNTN...
Furthermore, firmware version 021.014 is the general firmware for all Nokia E6-00 phones. Kindly be informed that there are factors that affect its distribution such as the following:
    1. Product code of handset (for there are certain compatible software for each variant as guided by the Federal Communications Commission and other related legal authorities).
    2. Country (there are designated firmwares for different countries as this also require the approval of Telecommunication authorities of each country).
    3. Network Service Provider (for they may not have approved the software yet due to their modifications on your handset which will be affected upon updating).
For future reference, please feel free to check our website. Kindly refer to the link below:
