E61 Calendar, poor implementation of repeated even...

Is there a calendar application, or a way to coerce the default calendar application, to schedule monthly events by day, rather than date.
I have meetings that occur on the first Wednesday of each month, and can't schedule that using the default application. Aquacalendar doesn't seem to do it either, though it appears to be using the same database. So perhaps the underlying database is built on too simple a model of the world. Which would seem to undermine the phone's otherwise excellent business credentials.
Oddly, previous symbian calendar programs that I have used handled this just fine (eg on Sony Ericsson P800, and my very old Psion 5, which had the best calendar application I've ever come across).
Why also, can one not specify an event to be repeated forever?
Dear Nokia, please improve this app.

Sorry, have tried again and the form won't accept my comment. Will you kindly pass my comments along to Nokia.
By they way, another issue is that the calendar application doesn't allow one to specify an event that occurs every n days/weeks/fortnights/months/years (unless n=1) either.

    I've had the same problem, synced yesterday and I've lost all my events in my calendar. Restored my phone,not worked, deleted icloud that hasnot worked,nothing is coming up at all on icloud calendar, and my mac was backed up when I plugged in today so not backed up on that. Someone please help, can I get them back? my life was on that calendar.

  • Mail organize by conversation is very poorly implemented

    In Mail organize by conversation is very poorly implemented as this is based upon the subject line. There should be an option to set it by from address, to address. Generally I find that Apple's ability to categorise data i.e. iTunes store is extremely poor, they really need to make their search and categorisation capabilities for more advanced in the options available to a user.

    If I understand correctly, I am having the opposite problem:
    Messages with the same subject, but with different senders, are not consolidated into a single thread/conversation.
    For example, I receive many emails via a web form, where each message contains the same subject.  In 10.6, these messages were ALL listed as a single thread that could be expanded/collapsed.  In 10.7, they are now all separate messages in the Inbox (organized by "Conversation"), unless the same sender submitted more than once, in which case they are grouped together.  What used to be a neat and condensed display is now a very long list.
    I have just upgraded to Lion, and I have tried the various combinations of View by Conversation on/off, Include related messages on/off, etc., but I am unsure of whether this behavior is normal or not.
    So, here's my question:  When organized by Conversation, what is the criteria used to determine the threading?  and, can this be changed?
    It appears to be organized by Sender, but this post indicates otherwise.  I like Peter's suggestion.
    (And yes, I have already rebuilt the Evelope Index.)

    I am not using Outlook for my calendar entries, but the Sun Calendar Server. This one is able to export the data using the ical or xml format. How can I import that file into my E61 calendar? Thanks!

    i'd like to know if if you can import an icf (ical) file as well. Anyone out there tried?

  • Bug In Java 5 Date/Calendar Timezone Implementation (possibly 6 also)

    Hey All,
    Really been scratching my head over a date issue I've observed for a while now in relation to TimeZone handling in java.
    It first manifested itself as strange behaviour in my Default TimeZone "Europe/Dublin" (ie. GMT with DST)
    e.g:
    System.setProperty("user.timezone", "Europe/Dublin");
    Date epoch=new Date(0);
    System.out.println("Epoch:"+epoch);
    yields:
    Epoch:Thu Jan 01 01:00:00 GMT 1970
    1AM (BUG???????)
    If I set the TZone above to GMT it outputs correctly as
    Epoch:Thu Jan 01 00:00:00 GMT 1970
    As there is no offset from GMT I can only think that DST is being handled incorrectly around the epoch. (even though it is not in DST on Jan 1st)
    So I wrote the following test using calendars to test my theory.
              System.setProperty("user.timezone", "UTC");
              Calendar test=Calendar.getInstance(); //will use the user.timezone
              Calendar test2=Calendar.getInstance(TimeZone.getTimeZone("Europe/Dublin"));
              for (int year=1965;(year<=1975);year++){
                   test.clear();test2.clear();
                   test.set(year, 0, 1, 0, 0, 0);
                   test2.set(year, 0, 1, 0, 0, 0);
                   System.out.println("UTC:"+ test.getTime()+ " --- EU/Dub:"+test2.getTime());
    Which yields the following interestingly inconsistent output (BUG?????)
    UTC:Fri Jan 01 00:00:00 UTC 1965 --- EU/Dub:Fri Jan 01 00:00:00 UTC 1965
    UTC:Sat Jan 01 00:00:00 UTC 1966 --- EU/Dub:Sat Jan 01 00:00:00 UTC 1966
    UTC:Sun Jan 01 00:00:00 UTC 1967 --- EU/Dub:Sun Jan 01 00:00:00 UTC 1967
    UTC:Mon Jan 01 00:00:00 UTC 1968 --- EU/Dub:Mon Jan 01 00:00:00 UTC 1968
    UTC:Wed Jan 01 00:00:00 UTC 1969 --- EU/Dub:Tue Dec 31 23:00:00 UTC 1968
    UTC:Thu Jan 01 00:00:00 UTC 1970 --- EU/Dub:Wed Dec 31 23:00:00 UTC 1969
    UTC:Fri Jan 01 00:00:00 UTC 1971 --- EU/Dub:Thu Dec 31 23:00:00 UTC 1970
    UTC:Sat Jan 01 00:00:00 UTC 1972 --- EU/Dub:Sat Jan 01 00:00:00 UTC 1972
    UTC:Mon Jan 01 00:00:00 UTC 1973 --- EU/Dub:Mon Jan 01 00:00:00 UTC 1973
    UTC:Tue Jan 01 00:00:00 UTC 1974 --- EU/Dub:Tue Jan 01 00:00:00 UTC 1974
    UTC:Wed Jan 01 00:00:00 UTC 1975 --- EU/Dub:Wed Jan 01 00:00:00 UTC 1975
    Strange - ehh? 1969->1971 all have issues with the Jan 1st date!!!!
    In fact theres issues for every day that DST is not in operation on these years... (BUG????)
    I'm part of a project that will be handling data from all Timezones and as such we have chosen
    to use UTC as our server time. We are now quite concerned what other bugs/strange behaviours
    lurk beneath the surface of the java implementation.
    Note we have tested various JDK's and they seem to be consistently inconsistent!
    If anyone can confrim this bug/issue or shed any light it would be most appreciated,
    G.

  • Calendar - I only want repeats on certain days of the week.

    I'm trying to be a responsible adult with a fancy schedule and everything for my courses. Unfortunately, some courses are Monday Wednesday Friday while others are Tuesday Wednesday. I've been trying to find a custom repeat option that will only repeat my reminders on certain days. I see old discussions of people using iCal a few years ago that appeared to have their issue resolved with a custom repeat option, but on the new Calendar with iOS 7 I don't see this option. Am I missing something or did they actually leave this feature out?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    ASCP gives the recommendations and dates based on the organization manufacturing calendar.
    It is not possible to have a different calendar for planning for CERTAIN set of items.
    We do not have any feature to support this requirement.
    One possible workaround which you may consider using is to firm the planned orders/batches; once they are recommended; to finish on Friday and re-run the plan.
    This needs manual intervention and re-running the plan for the changes to be aligned to whole plan.
    Alternatively, you may consider firming these using MSC Post Plan hook to firm these orders automatically. But even in this case, if the complete plan has to be aligned the plan needs to be re-run.
    Hope that answers your query!

  • Very poor implementation of XMLHttpRequest streaming with Safari for Window

    I hope this post reaches Apple engineers. This is critical for us to resolve this. I am a member of the developer network, so if using incident support is necessary, it can be used. Do not hesitate to contact me with any questions. I have implemented a test to compare XMLHttpRequest streaming performance for different browsers. Safari for Windows 5.0.3 had the worst results compared to Chrome and Firefox. Furthermore, I think this problem was introduced after Safari 3. The test consists of a server pushing messages of about 350 bytes to the browser at a rate of about 300/s. Once server pushes 10,000 messages, it closes the connection and browser opens new one repeating the cycle. There were several problems associated with Safari: 1) Safari could not process much more then 300 messages/s, that is quite low. Chrome had no problem processing 1,000. If, for example, 500 m/s was used, Safari would quickly allocate hundreds of meg of memory and crash. 2) Safari starts with about 64MEG of memory allocated. Once the test page is opened, memory quickly climes to 150MEG and as test progresses to >400MEG. Once the connection closes, it drops to 150MEG again. Chrome's memory did not fluctuate at all staying at 32MEG for the same test. 3) CPU was steadily claiming as test progressed and then dropped as connection was reset, creating CPU spikes. It reached about 50% CPU before connection was closed. Chrome's CPU stayed at about 2% all the time. This is the code: Server. Should be run with the latest Java Tomcat 7. Configure Tomcat to use Http11NioProtocol: package test; import java.io.IOException; import java.io.PrintWriter; import java.text.SimpleDateFormat; import java.util.Date; import javax.servlet.ServletException; import javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet; import javax.servlet.http.HttpServletRequest; import javax.servlet.http.HttpServletResponse; import org.apache.catalina.comet.CometEvent; import org.apache.catalina.comet.CometProcessor; @SuppressWarnings("serial") public class WebFrameworkServletXHRReconnects extends HttpServlet implements CometProcessor { @Override public void event(CometEvent event) throws IOException, ServletException { HttpServletRequest request = event.getHttpServletRequest(); HttpServletResponse response = event.getHttpServletResponse(); if (event.getEventType() == CometEvent.EventType.BEGIN) { System.out.println("Begin for session: " + request.getSession(true).getId() + " " + response.getWriter()); response.setHeader("pragma", "no-cache,no-store"); response.setHeader("cache-control", "no-cache,no-store,max-age=0,max-stale=0"); event.setTimeout(Integer.MAX_VALUE); PrintWriter out = response.getWriter(); SimpleDateFormat formatter = new SimpleDateFormat("mm:ss: "); for (int i = 0; i < 10000; i++) { out.print("{\"messageType\":8448,\"requestId\":"0",\"eventType\":1,\"symbolId\" :[\"BAC.EA\",0],\"fields\":[{\"header\":"0",\"type\":6,\"data\":[3993,2]},{\"hea der\":"55",\"type\":6,\"data\":[1185,2]},{\"header\":54,\"type\":6,\"data\":[321 8,2]},{\"header\":"5",\"type\":6,\"data\":[6617,2]},{\"header\":52,\"type\":4,\" data\":[15]},{\"header\":"12",\"type\":6,\"data\":[1700,2]}]}"); out.flush(); if (i % 10 == 0) { try { //Thread.sleep(60); Thread.sleep(30); } catch (InterruptedException e) { } } if (i % 100 == 0) { System.out.println(formatter.format(new Date()) + i); } } out.close(); event.close(); } else if (event.getEventType() == CometEvent.EventType.ERROR) { event.close(); } else if (event.getEventType() == CometEvent.EventType.END) { event.close(); } } } client: <script type="text/javascript" src="log4js.js">

  • Mail & Safari crash repeatedly even after erase 10.6.7

    I came back to the Mac to get away from Windows issues but still need to run Windows. So running Windows 7 64 bit in bootcamp & using that as a Virtual Machine in Parallels 5. Bought the macBookPro 13 in April 2010. Was running fine until Feb 19, 2011. On that day, Pages crashed, going from Pages to desktop to blue screen. Over a week it & Safari got worse with repeated crashes so that it got so I wasn't even able to boot.
    AppleCare & Genius bar have tried various solutions leading up to & including 2 erases--the 2nd time not even restoring much at all.
    Did not even have mail set up until after the erases. All I have on the Mac side since the erases is iLife & iWork & then later reinstalled Parallels. But the crashes happened before installing Parallels. Safari & Pages crashed before erases. Since it has been Safari, mail & finder & possibly Pages & Numbers-can't remember.
    Even after the erase these have continued intermittently. Have been working in Bootcamp lately since I have Outlook there & did taxes in Turbotax Windows. It has been pretty stable.
    The mac has also had trouble booting & had finder crashes so it seems to be mostly the various mac apps, but not just 1 of them. Right now Safari seems to be working ok & hopefully will let me post this. But other times it crashes & then it may work fine for several hours.
    Anything known that happened around Feb 19 that could lead to this?
    When did 10.6.7 come out?  There were some reports on the Parallels forums of possible conflicts between that & Parallels, although I think that was parallels 6 & I'm running Parallels 5.
    Most of the crash reports seem to say BAD_ACCESS_SIGEV (or something like that)
    & the thread is 0. This seems to be true whether Safari or Mail. Can't remember if Pages or Numbers have crashed but I haven't used them much.
    I'm told Macs don't get viruses or malware, but then someone said maybe they do.
    So far no reason has been found for this but the next step Genius bar is going to do is replace logic board, memory & HD. But hardware tests hadn't shown anything.
    So just wondering if there might be any other possible explanations that maybe should be explored. Genius bar is taking good care of me, but this is really disrupting use of Mac & really blindsided me since my memories of Macs (& what my brother confirmed has been true with their macs) is they just work.
    So before I take it in for what is hoped will fix it, but really apparently that is not known, wondering if there might be something else to look at.
    Also wondering if anything on Windows side could affect the mac? I have proprietary co software in bootcamp as well as Outlook 2007 that I sync to winmob phone for biz.
    But the crashes started up again after the erase before installing parallels. Bootcamp has mostly been stable although I did have 2 windows blue screens shortly after the erase.
    Again, any help or suggestions would be appreciated to help get this back to what I expect from a Mac. Its also embarrassing in an office of Windows users to be having all these problems on my Mac.

  • How can I fix the calendar list view - it repeats days and misses entries

    My iPhone has started to repeat days when I look at it. Some of those days have complete data for the day, other miss out lots of appointments.
    I get this problem only in list view.
    This month, as I scroll down the dates, i get 4th sept, 5th, then back to 4th, 5th, 6th, then back to 5th, then 6th, then 5th...
    The data on each day varies (some entries missed, some repeated every time the day appears)
    All the data is correct on my mac and on other views on the phone.
    My data is synced over cloud and I share some of the calendars with a couple of other icloud users.
    It is very annoying as I find the list view such a good way to look at my calendar. Any suggestions for a fix welcomed as turning it off and on and turning icloud syncing on and off has not helped.
    Thanks

    I am replying to my own post here as I seem to have fixed the problem.
    I do have some calendars that are shared. Some of those are shared with users who have time zone support turned on. So i activated time zone support on my iphone, then deleted my icloud subscription. I then signed in to icloud again and voila... problem solved.
    It is a weird one as the other calendar views were always fine and when you opened an event that appeared in the wrong day (on list view), the correct date of the event was shown in the information...
    one more bug in a complicated system I guess

  • Best calendar app? need repeating alert, not just once

    I'm looking for a calendar app that keeps notifying me repeatedly until I acknowledge it. From what I've seen, most calendar apps (along with the built-in one) only have a one-time alert, or the alert will alert you every other minute if you fail to acknowledge the notification. I like to keep my phone on vibrate so this is a problem. I'd like it to continuously vibrate as if I'm getting a phone call, until I acknowledge the alert. If anyone can help me out, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

    You can configure a google calendar to sync any way you want (2way or 1way either way).  A gmail account is free - http://www.google.com/intl/en/googlecalendar/about.html
    I don't use any "app" to keep my calendars sync'd - I use iCal on my MBP, calendar on my iPhone and iPad, and Exchange on my windows machine.  All calendars either read/write to the google calendar or you can set them independently to only read from or only write to it.
    That is what I use to keep both my personal and my work calendars syncronized on my computers and my mobile devices.  So I cannot speak to any other options, sorry - I use google for all that.

  • Calendar Sync Issue With repeating entry deletions Notes 8.5 to BB

    I have an issue where when synchronizing may calendar with Lotus Notes version 8.5, the Blackberry will delete repeating entries. Specifically, if I load the Blackberry with all my calendar entries from Notes and then in one entry in my Notes calendar a "single" occurance of a meeting gets canceled .. the next time I sync with the Blackberry it deletes "all" occurances of that meeting from the BB. The entries remain correct on Lotus Notes. The only way I can seem to fix that is to reset sync setting and reload the calendar to the BB all over again, and then this occurs again .... this happens with both V5 and V6 of the BB Desktop Software. • Events in Calendar not scheduled to repeat are gone!

    Hi,
    Today I opened up my Palm Desktop calendar on my PC and recent events that I scheduled but were not scheduled to repeat are gone!  I made sure that “category” was set to “All” and it was.  I did find that events about 2 months ago that were not scheduled to repeat are there but nothing after then up until now or one time events in the future.  I installed the Palm desktop 4.1.4 software on my computer when I started using my Lifedrive a few years ago.  However, my Lifedrive broke  a year ago but I still use the Palm Calendar on my PC to set my schedule.  In other words I do not synch anything with the Palm software.  I always “save all” before closing out of the Palm software.  I have read very similar problems online by others in similar posts but every suggested remedy advises to try something involving synching to the device the Palm software is used with.  I know that there should be archived data on my PC that may still contain the data that somehow disappeared.  I am not sure though exactly what file/files to open or look at.
    Did the recent date change to Feb 1, 2009 mess something up?  Like I said, from the online searches I have done I have seen several posts stating things similar to “My present/future one-time events are gone but ones from months ago are still there”.  This leads me to believe it is nothing I did because I honestly can’t think of  anything that caused this.
    Please help
    Thanks

    If the Data is intact on the device then change the Hotsync conduit to Handheld overwrites desktop then sync. Otherwise you will need to bowse to the file location on the PC. C:/Program Files/Palm or Palmone. Make sure the Palm Desktop is closed.  There you should see a Folder with a name based on your hotsync username. Inside that folder you should see a Datebook folder. In side the Datebook folder you should see a Datebook.dat file (DAT file) and a Datebook.bak file. Right click and rename the DAT file to Datebook.old and the .bak file to Datebook.dat. Then open the Palm Desktop and see if the data has been restored. If it has then change the Hotsync conduits to desktop overwrites handheld and sync.

  • Implementing a "repeat command" function

    I'm working on a text editor, with much the same functionality as vi. I'm kinda stuck on the "repeat last command" feature. My thought was to get the most recent undoable edit, and then call a redo on it, but that doesn't seem to be working. Any ideas?

    I'm implementing undo/redo as outlined in this page
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/components/generaltext.html
    which basically consists of...
    1) create a new instance of UndoManager (defined in javax.swing.undo)
    2) register the document object of the text area as an UndoableEditListener
    3) implement undo and redo actions that extend AbstractAction (I copied these from the above page)
    4) call the UndoManager's undo and redo methods from the undo and redo actions.
    My idea for repeat was to call the UndoManager's editToBeUndone() method (the most recent edit) and call the redo() method of the UndoableEdit object that it returns. However, the editToBeUndone() method is protected, so I created a class that extends UndoManager and overrode the editToBeUndone() method as follows.
    public UndoableEdit editToBeUndone(){
         return super.editToBeRedone();
    This could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure I've done something similar before.
    The other thing that could be a problem is the redo() method of the UndoableEdit class. In the API, it reads "Re-apply the edit, assuming that it has been undone." I don't really know what it means by, "assuming that it has been undone." Is there somewhere I can find a more detailed description? It doesn't throw a CannotRedoException.
    What is an undoable edit and not undoable are (presumably) defined in javax.swing.undo also.
    Thanks for your reply,

  • IPhone Calendar keeps syncing with Google even though no Gmail account on it

    This behavior is with the latest software updates on the Charge (2.2.1 firmware, I510.EE4 build) using its stock calendar software. I did notice that if I use Smooth Calendar, it does list all of her Google calendars under its listing of available calendars, but it still only shows data from her primary calendar. This is also true using the Touch Calendar app, which leads me to believe that there is some problem within the Google Calendar sync software that is not allowing her calendars to appear correctly.
    Thanks!
