E61 Firmware

I'm a business user trying to evaluate the E61 for my company. I have several problems with the phone and wish to test with the latest firmware. Mine is: 1.0610.04.04 19-04-06 RM-89 Nokia E61 I have updated the NSU to 1.1.40en but as normal there are no updates for my phone. According to posts there have been updates. I have tried to email Nokia without response. T-Mobile our supplier say speak to Nokia. We have been using SE P handsets (with some problems), but they (SE), do not appear at least to just allow the user community to support their phones as does Nokia. Nokia please respond!

i too emailed nokia, i got no response to my emails.
i find the support for the e61 very lacking indeed..
the firmware that i have 1.06 on e61 is very buggy and the battery indicator meter is not accurate.
i have contacted various people in nokia by email and i have yet to get a response.
nokia when will you have firmware 2.06XXXX available for e61 models , and product code 0538289??

SIP stack difference and setting E61 firmware vers...

I was using the SIP stack on my E61 firmware version 2.xxx and upgraded to version 3.xx firmware this past week...
Now I read that the SIP setting are stored differently and you have to re-create the SIP profile that was used in firmware version 2...
I have done all that but I can no longer register and use my service... I get registration failed message..
What has changed between version 2 firmware and version 3 firmware...to cause this and what do I need to change to get it working?
Originally the phone was a Vodafone UK branded phone but as they don't allow firmware version 3 I had it re-flashed.. the rest of version 3 works really well and the UI has improved in speed...
But I need to use the SIP stack... and I know that i cannot downgrade to version 2 firmware!! So I have to get firmware version 3 working..

Have you actually tried to connect to a SIP provider which requires STUN?
I don't have a E61 myself, thus I cannot tell, but from what I read in other posts, the new firmware does support STUN. Noone said, however, that you can configure it somewhere. Maybe they are using a default STUN server. STUN is used to determine the internet IP address. Any STUN server should do that. You don't have to use the STUN server of your SIP provider.
Also, some people write that you have to change the transport protocol from UDP to Auto.
BTW, port forwardings in the router won't solve the basic STUN problem that the phone tries to register with an internal IP address.

E61 Firmware update

I've a Nokia E61 product code 0537308 with firmware version 2.**** and I've noticed that a new version (3.0633.09.04) is available. So I've installed the Nokia updater software, made a complete backup of the phone and started to update the firmware of the phone.
Everything went fine until a certian moment the Nokia updater software start complaining that the SIM card was not inserted and give a update failure requesting to insert the SIM card while the SIM card is still in the phone.
Can this be caused by the fact that the SIM 'PIN code request' is on so everytime the phone is switched on the PIN code is requested. Do I have to put this off when a firmware update is performed?

As predicted O2 were of no help at all (bear in mind O2 is just a brand for carphonewarehouse)
I dont understand how nokia can provide a firmware update using the Nokia Software Udatater tool and then have it restricted so O2 users can't download the latest. What makes O2 so special (or not in this case) the phones are the same are they not?
Juding by the other forum topics on the same subject I am not the only one suffering the same lack of support.
I went back to my Sony Ericsson in October due to the lack of support....maybe Nokia should start to take ownership of this problem and put pressure on O2 rather than relying on users to do that job from them because O2 is not an easy company to get a repsonse from (although the operator did at least try), they pointed me at carphone warehouse who in turn pointed me to O2...... and so the cycle goes on.
Shame really as the phone as a unit is quite nice, however it's just a nice shiny brick on my desk at the moment ....
Do Nokia read these forums?

E61 firmware update problem - Chinese language los...

I have a E61 which reads and writes English and Simplified Chinese characters. The product code is 0529664 and apparently it was for English and Spanish languages. The English/Chinese language pack was apparently flashed by a third party in Beijing.
After updating the new firmware yesterday, the phone reverts back to English/Spanish. My phone now is essentially a piece of brick living in China!!!
Anyone having a genuine English/Chinese version (identified by a Chinese character "Zhong" on the "Car" key at lower left coner of keyboard) kindly tell me the product code (just below the IMEI code, on the sticker in the battery compartment ) so that I can buy a new E61 with right product code.
Alternatively can someone who has done it tell me how to install a Chinese language pack.

Nokia E61 Firmware Update

Hello th everyone ! I've got an E61 with fw 1.0610.04.04 , RM- 89 and when I try to update it's firmware with NSU, it says that no updates are available. Why is that ?

Perhaps it is an operator or language/regional variant for which a newer version (update) is not yet available?

NSU will not see latest E61 firmware on valid phon...

http://europe.nokia.com/softwareupdate shows with my product code, the latest firmware is 3.0633.09.04 - but NSU will not let me update.
I got my Nokia E61 today and was hoping to have some issues fixed with firmware 3.x.
The E61 was shipped with firmware 2.0618.06.05 and some branding by my TSP: startup/shutdown animations, different active standby, browser now named "Orange World".
Nokia Software Updater claimed my firmware is the latest version, showing 2.0618.06.05 as both my current and latest. Reinstalling the firmware works and leaves the branding intact.
Nokia.com claims phones with product code 0523307 can be updated and the product code is not known as 'branded'.
The TSP is Orange Nederland (the Netherlands)
Product code is 0523307
The phone is unlocked.

E61 firmware problems

Hey I just updated my e61 with the firmware and cant seem
to zoom in my web pages.....before i used the star and pound button but now after the update it will not work

Just found the answer to your zoom problems. Use blue shift (bottom left on keyboard) and then the phone will zoom in and out just fine.

E61 firmware 3.0633.09.04 timezone issue?

I have an e61 - when I updated to firmware 3.0633.09.04 I started having a new problem - all my outlook calendar appointments/meetings show up as 7 hours off on my phone.
So for instance, I have a lunch meeting today at 11:30 and it shows up on my phone as 6:30pm.
My phone is set to us/phoenix timezone, which is what it was set to before the firmware upgrade.
This may be part of the problem - if I check the phone timezone setting it shows as "GMT 0:00 Phoenix, AZ" which isn't right - Phoenix is GMT-7:00.
Has anyone else encountered this issue?

I had to wait for a long time to get the update, because the update software always said, that there is no update available for my E60. Now I got it(3.0633.09.04) and i wish I could go back to the old firmware, as blachberry service is not working anymore. The only workarround I found is to use the BB software for a different provider. I have a vodafone SIM, but the BB software for vodafone doe´sn´t work with 3.0633.09.04, now I´m using a BB software for "other" provider and it works - at least I get my mails again, the calender is not able to be synchronised.

E61 Firmware Update 2

There was a thread on when availablility of an E61 software update would be available which appears to have been erroneously locked.
The postings indicated that there was a new official firmware update for the E61.
Can someone confirm if this is correct, and if so what the correct proceedure is to obtain the update is. I am in the UK and am currently finding the WiFi link unusable with my (expensively purchased) phone.
If there is no update at present, can someone indicate when it might be available? One of the main reasons for me to purchase the E61 was for email access with WiFi - one of the main advertising points for the phone. Currently, this is sufficiently unreliable to make the phone unfit for the purpose it was purchased, and I am considering returning the device for a refund because of this if no update is available to address the issues.

Wow! 2 years! Over here in Singapore, Firmware upgrade is only free during the 1-year warranty period. The service centre here is so busy, you often have to queue to take a queue number, and then another queue to be serviced.
Anyway, is there a list of fixes for the firmware update? Or do I have to find out myself. Some of the fixes I have noticed.
1. When pairing with some non-Nokia BT headsets, the automatic setting to the lowest volume problem is solved.
2. Calculator - You no longer has be use the joystick to select the Add, Subtract, Multiply and Divide. Pressing the respective keyboard keys works now. In other words, I can remove Calcium.
3. One pleasant suprise is that the phone configuration no longer disappears when I upgrade the firmware. No need to spend hours reconfiguring the phone all over again.

E61 Firmware Upgrade: No Upgrade Available??

Hi, I have an E61 which was purchased in August last year. The product code is 0530758. The current software version is 1.0610.04.04, dated 19-04-04. When I try to upgrade, I am told that there is no upgrade available for this product code. Any ideas?

I have the same problem too. Yesterday I just flashed a E61 phone from version firmware 2.0618.06.05 to firmware 3.0633.09.04 and now today I'm trying to do the exactly same thing for another phone and Updater says that there is no software available...? They are unbranded phones. I'm getting aggraveted.

I just got my new E-61 yesterday. It still on ver 1 firmware. I bought it on ebay India, its product code is 0530151 (which I believe is a "Euro Silver"). Its a made in Finland piece having "english" and "nederlands" as the two languages. NSU shows updates available but I am scared to death to try that out (all those KB remapping issue scare me) and so I will wait till I am comfortable with the phone.
I notice a few bugs already
1) I made a new profile but if I chose it instead of General, I lose out on having the date in Active Standby page. Considering that there are acres of unused space, its strange that Nokia will do it by design.
2) The voice recorder button is very easy to press by mistake and there seem no way to stop these accidental recordings.
3) If I chose Tools-Setting-Network-Cell Info Display as "ON", I am supposed to get my carrier supplied location text on the screen but it comes momentarily and then gets hidden due to the fact that bluetooth icon obscures it. Even if I keep bluetooth OFF, it still shows cell info part only momentarily. This looks like a bug to me.
4) WLAN and GPRS connection don't close when I close the Nokia browser. Is this by design? In my earlier 6670 I was using Opera and there when I used to exit the connection will close automatically.

About problems with upgrading Nokia E61 firmware f...

Before upgrading you should switch off your antivirus (it could have firewall features that you don't know about) and firewall (or allow OTI@Home User Interface - C:\Program Files\Nokia\Nokia Software Updater\nsu_ui_client.exe - full access to network). It must be done because NSU do not triger firewall's interactive mode (tested on ZoneAlarm, Sunbelt Kerio Personal firewall and Windows firewall). I think it could be glitch in NSU, but anyway - turning off firewall and antivirus helped me to upgrade without problems already 4 Nokia-s

see how many text you have in your phone you should keep this as free as possible ,now try a reset back your data up first the code is *#7370# security code is 12345 ,then see if you can upgrade your firmware

Nokia E61 Firmware version 3 telstra blackberry

since upgrading to Ver 3 firmware my vers 3 blackberry service will not accept service books from telstra blackberry. Telstra say they will only support ver 2. How can I re install ver 2? Is it available on a website?

I am in the same boat. All was working fine and as of the upgrade of the firmware, not only did my restore from my memory card fail to work as advertised (suggested my phone was out of memory and I should close some applications but there were no applications open), but also I now have no Blackberry email service.
I have just noticed that this website states that we cannot roll back to the earlier version of firmware.
Does anyone have a solution? No blackberry means my whole company will have to get rid of their Nokia handsets (that is all those I don't get to early enough to prevent the upgrade).

Problem after E61 firmware upgrade

Since I upgraded my firmware last week end a strange thing has happened. When I get a text message or call only the number appears on my phone and not the name of the person calling.
Yes all the incoming communications are from people on my Contact list.
How can I get their names back?

Are you sure that during the backup / restore process you did that no duplicate contacts were added to your phonebook ?

E61 Firmware upgrade.

Help! Since upgrading to the latest firmware, in calender the 'options' button doesn't work. For example, you cannot 'mark as done' any enteries, to switch from day view to month view, if there are ant entries for that day, you have to go to a day with no enteries. Also you cannot use the option button in 'missed calls', not even call the number back. Anyone got this problem and know how to cure it?

Remove the memory card, and try again. If works, put the card again. If not, remove the battery also, and see what happens. The limit, is go to a Nokia Service.
