E61 WLAN Vodafone problem

Hi, I just bought a brand new e61 from Vodafone, but problem is they seem to have disabled the WLAN from working.
I input my settings for the WEP key onto the handset, and set up the access point. I configured the router to accept the MAC address of the handset. However, under Menu>Connect, there is no WLAN icon, although under connection manager, there is an available WLAN listed-- mine. This can also give me information about the network, such as strength of connection and how many access points I have etc., and the WLAN icon is displayed in the top right of the screen, so I know it is finding the network, I just don't know how to make it access it.
When I try to start the web browser, it tries to connect to Vodafone's internet service, which is fine when I'm on the bus but not when I'm at home! Any ideas how to fix this so that the WLAN is the default method of connecting to the internet? I rang Vodafone and they were spectaculatly unhelpful telling me that the phone could still access WiFi hotspots and that "if" it had been disabled, it was a company policy because obviously Vodafone would make no money from my browsing at home.
I'm absolutely furious over this, and would be delighted if anyone could tell me how I can avail of the functionality for which I purchased the phone-- I could have got a phone for literally a tenth of the price, I picked the e61 because of its wi-fi functionality, and not being able to use it is really infuriating me.

I've just joined this discussion group as I'm having 2 problems with my E61 - and one of these problems is almost the same as the initial question, except that I'm on t-mobile. I have unlimited web browsing, so the cost isn't the issue - but when I'm at home I'd like to be able to use my wireless network as it would be quicker. I also have an indicator showing that there is a WLAN service available and I've defined an access point - but can only get the internet to work accessing via t-mobile.
My husband also has an E61 and he can't get his to work on our network either - I can't remember the phone he had previously (it was like the 02 XDA with a slide-out qwerty keyboard) and that phone used to swap between networks automatically.
I'm sorry - but I'm not very technical and I didn't understand your reply sosul!

so today I called Vodafone. Why? because they placed a **bleep** looking card in the E61 box on which they claim they have "experts" ready to help us get our new phones up and running and in good shape. Trust me, they are no experts; the kid I got today took several attempts at understanding my very simple question about updating an operating system.
However, I had a brain-wave. I tried the whole process on my daughter's laptop. Everything worked fine, connecting first time and, yes, NSU told me that there is no update available for my phone. Same as you, I have 1.xx and there's a 2.xx out there somewhere.
Regarding my own laptop, who knows why it had problems. The security system was disabled and still it couldn't find a phone on the end of a USB cable (even though PCSuite can find it...).
It's a mystery, but we love our toys; so we persevere.

N95 WLAN Connection problems - Orange Livebox (UK)

I am trying to get the N95 to connect to the internet wirelessly through Orange Livebox (UK). I have run the WLAN wizard and the phone has identified it. I have input the WEP key and thats worked fine.......except everytime I try to connect to the net via this method I get a connection error. Has anybody else had WLAN connection problems? Can anybody help?

did you press "1" button at the back of the Livebox before pairing ?
what kind of error message do you get on the N95 ?
does it fail the same way when you go through the homescreen "WiFi scanning / Start Web Browsing" or through Tools / WLAN Wizard ?

E61 WLAN problem

I still own an E61 and had a problem as it became "crazy" with all the lists being scrolled out (wherever I am ) continuously without beign able to stop it or to control anything!
So what I have done is reinstalled the frmware .
Since then I am not able to use my WLAN at all. No matter what I do I receive immediately "connection not available".
in the connection the existing Wifi spots are being seen but I am not able at all to even let the WLAN scan for existing Wifi or try to connect. The message is received immediately as I press the button!

I have a different problem, but I think it's just the phone as I read on different sites.
How can I turn wlan off ? Is it on all the time ? My settings for connection > wlan are Show availability - Yes, Scan for networks - Every 10 minutes. Does that mean every 10 minutes the wlan goes on then off ? It's weird, and power consuming I think.
Will a software update help ?

E61 WLAN Problems after update

I updated my firmware to version 2.0618.06.05 and since then I have had problems with WLAN connections for the browser. I can connect but if I try to use a hyperlink the application hangs. I have to go to connection manager and terminate the connection (disconnecting in the browser doesn't seem to do the trick)and then go back to the browser and use the link. This is tedious.
I too lost my contacts when I upgraded. Unfortunately I had not synched with Outlook so I lost two contacts completely.

Thanks. I'm using a 1st-gen Linksys WRT54G upgraded to the last firmware and a newer version of the WRT54G. No idea what firmware it's on though. I'm ready to destroy this phone. Nokia US and Nokia UK really are very short sighted. What's the point of getting a world phone if you can't get support in the country you are in.
Oh well ... time to look for a new "smartphone"

Unable to restore after E61 update without problem

Hi there,
First post here but I read a lot...
As I was unable to connect on my home WLAN (a USR9106 DSL/modem/router) I decided to update my E61 to the latest firmware.
I had no problem with the backup nor the update... but now, when I try to restore, I get a "memory full: close some application and try again"
But as you can imagine, I have no open application ! (I also didn't forget to allow installation of non trusted application).
Thanks for your help... I'll be in big trouble if I cannot restore...

E61 - One Wierd Problem!

First of all, I would like to confess, I am really happy with my E61 and its performance.
However I have faced a really weird bug. I tried get onlien from a free wlan at the airport. And when i tried to get online, phone restarted itself(rebooted). When i tried to it several time(even to connect different web addresses or other internet software via wlan) it kept rebooting when i attempt to connect via wlan. When I tried it with GPRS there was no problem. Afterwords, I have tried to get online from a different Wlan, there was no problem again.
But i guess thats some kinda bug, and its annoying. Hopefully Nokia will offer a solution to that kinda bug, i suppose caused by the operating system. I faced a similiart thing on IM+, when i msged around 5, 6 mins. It has rebooted once or twice.

Not quite sure what can be causing your problem.

E61 WLAN connections

like a lot of people I'm having problems connecting to my home WLAN. Goodness only knows why Nokia have made this so difficult. I have a several year old PDA and that connected as soon as I'd keyed in the WEP key. Is this progress I ask myself?
On the e61, after many hours of tweaking, I've finally got the settings to the point where it offers the access point and on selection tries to connect to my WLAN, but it then just stays on 'connecting' forever. No errors, just doesn't connect. The WEP key is keyed in correctly, I've set up the data access point as 'adhoc' so that I can pick it from the list when connecting.
Any wild guesses as to what to try next would be appreciated.

By Automatic I mean that I went into advanced settings for the access point, then selected, 'IPV4 settings', 'DNS address', then changed the address from 'Automatic' to the wireless router's IP address. This appears to make diddly squat difference.
It is definately TRYING to connect, I can select the access point and it says 'Connecting...'
I've tried to do a phone reset but it's asking for a lock code which I don't appear to have.
Please do let me know if there's anything else you can think of, but unfortunately I think I need a phone which doesn't require a degree in mobile operating systems - I thought I was fairly technical - obviously I'm not! Time to get rid I think

WLC 5508 - wlan stability problems

I have a WLC 5508 with half a dozen LAPs (AIR-CAP3502I-E-K9).
They have been working but sometimes clients detect conectivity problems with the wlan.

E71 Wlan connection problems

Hi all
Have been trying to log on to my secure home network using my E71 & have not been successful. I go to all the steps as per the manual including key in the
Pre-shared key for Wlan which I guess is my Wlan password, is this correct?
I get an error message
Wlan unable to connect
Wlan network not found??
This is a strange message when it has detected the network in the first place? Anyone have any ideas?

Yeah, I'm having similar problems. The phone detects the router WLAN, but the router does not detect the phone WLAN. The message I get is: No reaction from gateway.
I suspect that there is an issue with how the various manufacturers implement 802.11b/g
According to the Nokia Os 9.2 the following is supported:

My router states the same (Thomson Speedtouch 780) and yet my router cannot detect my Nokia device, even from 30 cm distance.
I may have to upgrade the router firmware to get this to work; still waiting for a reply by Alcatel/Thomson

Mountain Lion WLAN/ WIFI Problem

Hallo,
ich hatte bei Mountain Lion ein extremes Wlan Problem. Nach 2 Minuten riß die Verbindung immer ab.
Habe alles mögliche versucht, nichts hat geholfen:
1) Schlüsselbund komplett gesäubert
2) PRAM Reset
3) Connection Config gelöscht und neu gestartet
4) Router Firmware Update
5) Router auf G-Only und Kanal 6/7/8 gestellt
Und so ziemlich alles andere was im Netz dazu rumgeistert.
Hat jemand ein ähnliches Problem? Ich bin jetzt wieder zurück zu Lion und habe keinerlei Probleme mehr.
Ist das Problem Apple schon bekannt und hat jemand eine Ahnung ob das behoben werden soll? Im Netz finde ich hunderte Artikel dazu.

Catalyst Express 500 Switch and wlan roaming problem.

Hi everybody.
We are using Catalyst Express switches and air-1121G for a wlan network covering a hotel. When we set the smartport-setting on switch to "access-point" users cannot move from one access-point to another. Setting the smartport-role to "other" solves the problem.
Has anybody made the same experience ?

This is a known issue and the workaround you have used is the best but
this issue has been solved in the new IOS release
i would suggest you to upgrade the IOS for the Catalyst 500 and this should solve the problem

E61 SMTP Port problem

I have a E61 since a few days. Unfortunately I cannot configure the SMTP port. Here in the office the port is 2525, but obviously it is only possible to enter 3-digit-numbers in the profile.
Is there a workaround? The confuguration tool is of no use as well...

the only way is to use change the smtp port to 3 digits.I don't know but it can be possible to add a second port number without to remove the port with 3 digits.

WLAN 4402 problem

I have a problem with my WLAN controller 4400 series.
I've configured it, I can add access points etc. Problem is that i can't make a WLAN's works... I have created dynamic Interfaces, for example vlan 20 with IP address: 10.10.20.1 /24 and I can ping that address, from my computer. When I add WLAN, i simply create it, status is "Enable", "Broadcast SSID" is turn on, interface is interface VLAN 20 and my access points dont want to broacast any of the wlans. Can u help me with that ?

Do you have any AP groups configured??
Check WLAN >> AP Group >> Check the WLAN and the AP in the Default Group or any one that you!!
OR
Check if the AP radios are UP or Not!!
