E61i no longer connects successfully

Hi,
I'm having a very frustrating problem with my E61i, which has worked perfectly with Bluetooth File Exchange, Nokia Multimedia transfer etc., but now fails to connect. It seems something is corrupted on the phone such that this no longer works. Rebooting the phone / Mac achieves nothing. Here are the details:
- From a clean start (after rebooting both systems), Bluetooth File Exchange successfully connects to the phone, but any attempt to transfer a file leads to a "connection failed or closed" error. It doesn't matter whether the file is on phone memory or the memory card.
- thereafter, Bluetooth File Exchange is not even able to connect to the phone ... I get this same error message. On the phone screen I see parentheses appear for about a quarter second around the bluetooth symbol (indicating a connection), but then vanish. It is trying, but immediately fails.
- via USB cable, Nokia Multimedia Transfer has a similar problem. After starting the "connect and transfer" from NMT, I then connect the USB cable from phone to Mac; the Data vs. PC Suite choice is offered to me by the phone; I choose PC Suite, briefly see the PC Suite connection symbol, which immediately vanishes. NMT works for a bit (i.e. NMT icon on the menu bar shows activity for a few seconds) then nothing further happens -- no iPhoto or iTunes launch as would normally be expected. Trying to connect via bluetooth gives the same behavior: a brief flash of the parentheses around the bluetooth symbol on the phone indicating a connection, which immediately vanishes, and NMT acts as if nothing happened (no connection).
- iSync via bluetooth works just fine at transferring contacts and appointments back and forth between phone and mac.
- USB data transfer to access files the memory card (E also works just fine. My understanding is that this is just a direct USB access to the memory card, effectively disconnecting the phone from the memory card.
It looks like the functionality on the phone that supports file transfer to outside applications like PC Suite, Bluetooth File Exchange and Nokia Multimedia Transfer has corrupted some of its data files, so that it fails whenever it tries to start. I've searched quite a bit on the web, and lots of people have similar problems with Nokia file transfer, but no solutions that seem relevant.
The problem is that the system is so damn opaque! If only I could see a log file like on linux I could presumably track down the meaning of the error messages and resolve the cause of the problem. But I haven't found any info that would indicate even where to start -- I can't even find out whether there are useful log files, let alone where to look for them.
This problem started after transferring a 7 MB file from phone to Mac via Bluetooth File Exchange: during the transfer a GSM call came in (from a telemarketing idiot!); while I took the call, the transfer continued fine but a bit slower, and completed with no apparent problem. The transferred file seems fine. However, afterwards I'm having all these problems that I never had before.

Help!
-- Chris Lee

I think I have solved my problem after a frustrating week. I traveled last week and changed time zones. I then changed the time zones on both my MacBook and E61i. However, once that was done, everytime I tried to synchronize my phone and iCal and Address Book, I kept getting a SYSTEM ERROR message, and the two would not sync.
When I returned to home, and reset the times, I still got the System Error message, and no synchronization. Emailing the help desk here, they just told me to download the plug in! Not very "helpful" as I'd already done that!
This morning then, I deleted all the calendar entries from my phone, and tried to sync again. Finally successes!
Seems there's some kind of glitch if you change the time zone settings. Just delete all the entries on the phone, and then re-sync.

  • After setting up my brand new Airport Express 802.11n and accidentally using it to connect my iMac to the network...my iMac no longer connects through Ethernet?  Any ideas...I have tried everything without success!!

I have been using Apple technology for about 10 years starting with 1st generation iPods and our house now includes a 5 year old iMac, all versions of iPods and touches, Apple TVs (both generations) and most recently an iPad 2.  I have always told family and friends that Apple technology just works.  Unfortunately that stopped today.  I bought a new Airport Express 802.11n to use for AirTunes around my new pool.  I set it up from my iMac and accidentally used it to connect my iMac to the network for a short time.  Now I can no longer connect the iMac to the network using a hard wired Ethernet cable.  I have tried resetting everything possible, from hubs to routers to the Mac itself and it just will not connect to the network through Ethernet any longer.  I am now a very frustrated Apple user especially when the support site says I can't use the fast path support because my product was manufactured 5 years ago...I just bought it at BestBuy yesterday.  All other computers and itechnology in the house are connecting via wifi and Ethernet without any issue except from my new iMac boat anchor.  Anybody who can help me???  Thanks

John, thanks for the email so quickly.
I too hope I haven't tried "everything" either but I am reasonably technical.  I had done what you suggested to do before but I did both again.
Ethernet is yellow in the left side bar.  In the right pane it's status says Connected but then below it says "Ethernet has a self-assigned IP address and will not be able to connect to the Internet."
I have tried the assist me menu and Network Status has Ethernet Green, Network settings Yellow, ISP Green, and Internet and Server Red and Failed for both.  I have turned things off and on, checked cables, deleted all locations and tried restting them up but to no avail.  I even disconnected everything and connected the mac directly into the cable modem itself and the thing still will not connect.
    Thoughts???

  • Can no longer connect to internet on my iTouch

I have had my iTouch for just over a year and had no problems connecting to the internet at home and elsewhere. I had to purchase a new router recently and now my Touch no longer connects. It finds the network with no problem but when I enter my password it still says "unable to join the network..." It works everywhere else just fine and my laptop at home connects to my wi-fi with no problem as well. I have tried to input my network under "Other networks" with no success either. My settings and password are the same as before but it still won't connect. Has anyone else had this problem and any ideas on how to fix it? I went to the Apple store and they said they had no idea why it no longer connects. Thanks for any help you can send me.

Are you running WEP encryption? Chances are the new router interprets your password in a form that the touch can't deal with. You can either using the hex code in place of the password you created or reset your encryption to WPA2-psk and create a new 10-12 character password.
If you don't want to change encryption, you can reconfigure your WEP passwords - 5 characters only with 48bit or 13 characters only with 128 bit.

  • Laptop can no longer connect - Hub doesn't seem to see it any more

Hi Please bear with me - this is probably going to be long! I have been tearing my hair out for the last 36 hours trying all sorts of things to get my laptop to connect to the hub, but to no avail. Also, I am no tech expert - everything I know I find out by googling/reading forums like these. It used to connect, no problem.Laptop (an old Dell, running XP Pro) still 'sees' the Skyhub. But it seems the Skyhub no longer sees the laptop (not in list of wireless devices). My Samsung tablet and my son's Chromebook both connect successfully to Skyhub.Laptop connects successfully with nearby unsecured BT-FON networks.Laptop connects successfully with Skyhub via ethernet cable.  Things I've tried (not sure i can remember them all, haha):Disabled firewallTurned off encryptionRan windows update to laptop while connected via ethernetPinged what I think is the hub's IP address (192.168.0.1)  Nothing. 4 packets sent, 0 received, 4 packets lost.Used cmd prompt to try various suggestions I've read on forums - renewing IP, flushing winsock, etc. Don't understand half of what I did but I typed commands carefully, but didn't solve connection problem.I have tried changing the channel at both the hub end and the laptop end.I have tried entering IP address manually (and subnet mask and gateway and DNS servers). Didn't work so set it all back to 'obtain automatically'.I have pressed button on hub until light flashed 4 times, thereby putting it back to factory settings.A windows diagnostic test shows IP address failure after trying to connect to Skyhub.I have uninstalled/reinstalled/tried updating the wireless network card on my laptop. It says it is working properly.I have opened inSSIDer, and laptop quite clearly sees the Skyhub, and is receiving a strong signal. I'm a bit confused why it says the security is "WPA2-Enterprise". The Skyhub itself says security is WPA2-PSK (AES)Mindst, even with security turned off, laptop still cannot connect. So:Skyhub is still working on wired PC, and wirelessly for tablet and chromebook.Laptop is still working because it can connect okay to neighbouring networks. As a non-techie, it seems to me that something is stopping the hub from 'seeing' the laptop, and assigning it an IP address. But what?!Thanks in advance for any help.Louise I have taken a few photos:  https://www.flickr.com/photos/35233074@N04/

Hi. I have to say that your problem Louise seems very close to mine. My work laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad T430, reasonably up-to-date) has secure direct access connection capability to my employer's network. However, while the laptop connects easily by wireless connection to my Sky router no internet access from the router outwards. This is a recent (last 1 – 2 months) issue and started as intermittent – the internet connection would come and go without any apparent rhyme or reason. It is now apparently a permanent issue. It is also only a wireless problem - it seems to connect to the internet OK by cable to the router. This is while at the same time other devices connected to the router get internet access fine. There are only about 7 or 8 devices max connecting wirelessly to the router at any given session. My workplace IT Service staff have investigated but washed their hands of the issue as the laptop connects fine both wirelessly and by cable to the workplace corporate network. My Sky router is a Sagem model (no model no. is evident – it’s an older model then the current Hubs) of probably 5 or 6 years vintage (I’m note sure of that). Does anyone have any suggestions? I should also say that at present I can’t access or alter any of the laptop connection settings because the work’s IT Services won’t give me the necessary device admin rights yet equally won’t attempt to resolve it because it’s my home network issue! Don’t let that put you off suggesting connection setup fixes though (I’ll happily put these to workplace IT Services! Specifically though – is there way to restore the router’s firmware to the last time it worked? Mark

  • After upgrade to IOS 8.3  iPad Air no longer connects to iTunes

Today I upgraded my Macbook Air to Yosemite 10.3 and my iPad Air to IOS 8.3
After upgrading the iPad I was asked to connect it via cable to iTunes in order to allow for wireless sync.
When plugging the cable in, the iPad starts sending endless alert beeps and the top line of the screen is shaking. On iTunes the error message "iTunes could not connect to this iPhone. This device is no longer connected." appears with every alert beep from the iPAD. No matter how often the OK button is pressed, the message appears rightaway again.
I made a full backup of the iPad Air before upgrading to IOS 8.3 but I am very reluctant to reset the iPad as the same error might come up when connecting the iPad after reset to iTunes and then I would not be able to restore it at all.
Does anyone had a similar experience and/or is there any known workaround?
    Many Thanks for any suggestion.
    G.W

Thanks for your further consideration, much apreciated. I tried a different cable, different port and did reboot and soft reset. I also did reset of settings on iPad, just in case.
As  I can with no problems use the same USB cable and USB port with my iPhone to connect to iTunes, the issue must be somewhat with the iPad Air and iTunes on my Macbook Air. I also can connect the iPad with the same USB Cable to iTunes on a different Macbook with no issues.
I think, best is to do a full backup on a different machine and then setting back the iPad to initial state, followed by a restore.
This I can (hopefully successfully) do with iTunes on a different Macbook.
Many thanks for you kind support.

  • ITunes could not connect to this iPhone. The device is no longer connected

A few days ago, my iPad 3 A1430 screen turned black. Siri was still there but very slow to respond. The following day, the screen display returned (the usual green background colour but a much smaller display and not a single icon present). Siri was back up to speed, could play music, display info but could not respond to calendar enquiries etc. The iPad would switch off but not reboot. I let the battery level drop to zero then re-charged: iPad now working again.
Wanting to back-up my iPad, I ran iTunes version 12.1.0.50 on iMac (Yosemite 10.10.2). I have PCemulator installed and when the iPad connection was made, I received the usual screen prompt for which to connect to Mac or PC. (The problem starts here: - the prompt was flashing on/off). I selected Mac & received the  message “iTunes could not connect to this iPhone. The device is no longer connected”.
Rebooted PC and iPad, connecting iPad offers no device prompt, only the same error message.
Successfully backed up iPhone 6 using iTunes.
Upgraded iPad software to IOS 8.2 and connected again. No effect, same error message.
Looked at various Apple posts but couldn’t find a solution. After several iMac & iPad reboots, eventually managed to back-up my iPad and in the process lost all my iPad music built up over the years on my old PC. Managed to recover these music files from my old PC and load them onto iTunes on my iMac. Tried to sync my iPad but back to error message “iTunes could not connect to this iPhone. The device is no longer connected”.
    Any solution?

I have the same problem. In fact when I plug in my iPad 2 updated to ios 7.0.4 I get that same message and it crashes my entire system - forcing me to reboot.

  • IPad (4th generation) no longer connects to 1st generation time capsule

    Hi all.
I am stumped. I have a 1st generation 500 MB Time Capsule to which I can successfully attach wirelessly an iPhone 4, iPhone 5, 2 MacBook Pros, a 2nd generation iPad and until recently a 4th generation iPad. I note recently because all of a sudden, for no apparent reason, I can no longer connect the iPad 4th gen. Literally one day I was connected and the next no longer. My network is hidden, WPA2 protected and MAC address controlled. When I try to connect, I get "unable to join network".
The iPad 4th gen has no problem connecting to any other WiFi network, including a current generation Time Capsule.
TC firmware is up to date. iPad iOS up to date.
What I have done so far:
Unplugged Time Capsule and after a few minutes plugged it in again. I reset the WiFi connections on the iPad via general settings. I also changed the network from hidden to not hiden and removed the password protection. When that didn't work, I reset the password and hid the network.
    Any ideas??
    Thanks!!!

Change both the name of the wireless network and the password
Make sure that the name of the network adheres to the following guidelines
No more than 20 characters in the name....shorter is better
Use only letters and numbers in the name....no special characters like an apostrophe, dollar sign, etc
No blank spaces in the name
    Same rules for the password
Avoid the hidden network setting if possible, as it will not keep anyone that really wants to see your network from doing so, and it does make it more difficult for some devices to connect
If the iPad still will not connect, you have an iPad problem. You may need to completely restore the operating system on the iPad, or better yet, get a new iPad if it can be exchanged.

  • TS3581 iOS 6.1 update - iPhone will no longer connect/pair with my car.  Is there a workaround for this issue?

After the 6.1 update my iPhone 4S will no longer connect with my car stereo (2012 Chevy Sonic).  Until update, everything was working fine and I experienced no such issues.  I have tried deleting my phone from my stereo memory and re-pairing, but I get a pair unsuccessful error on my iPhone; I have been able to pair a pre-6.1 iPhone successfully after discovering the problem.  Has anyone found a workaround to this issue?

IIRC updating the iPhone iOS changes its characteristics when viewed by vehicle
    bluetooth
That is why you need to remove pairing from both ends and start again
Vehicle just does not recognise the iPhone as the one it previously paired with

  • Can no longer connect to Airport Express with upgrade to iTunes 10.1

Since I upgraded to iTunes 10.1 I can no longer connect to my Airport Express (unknown error-15000). Another computer on my betwork running an older version of iTunes still works on the Airport Express.
Any ideas? I have tried to uninstall and reinstall airport express with no success.

Rather than disabling the firewall, try making sure you've got exceptions in it for BonJour. Although the following document is about a different error message, the instructions in there are worth trying. (At step 7, make sure there's an exception for BonJour as well.)

  • Can no longer connect to SMB server after upgrading to Lion

We have a MacBook Pro that was running 10.6.8. The user upgraded to Lion, and can no longer connect to a Windows 2008 file server. (We have two offices connected through a hardware tunnel, but i do not think this is the issue.)
We have tried to connect in the Finder (smb://[email protected]/). It asks for usr / pass, and then just hangs on "Connecting to server"
We can ping, have tested these credentials on other computers, and tried other credentials on this computer, to no avail. Furthermore, we installed a fresh copy of Lion on another computer, and successfully connected, so I don't think the issue is with Lion itself.
There must be something from the previous install that did not "upgrade" properly, but I don't know which file / setting it could be. It is system-wide setting, as we have also tried another user account on this same Mac.
We've also run Onyx to fix permissions, clean out all caches, etc.
Any idea what file i can change, modify, or delete?
Your thoughts would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

Yes, but the issue is not with Lion directly; there seems to be something with the upgraded system, perhaps a legacy setting or pref... I've scoured the system to no avail. I'm actually about to reinstall 10.6 - wasted too much time on this issue.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Since the new Mevericks update my Air can no longer connect to a shared Itunes lib on Macbook Pro

    Hi,
I have two mac laptops at home. My pro and my air. I have it setup so that I stream all my media from my pro to my air.
I updated my pro to the newest Mavericks version. Since that update I can no longer connect to my library on my pro via my air.
Please note that this problem here is with the mac book pro! I updated my air last night and i could still stream.
All I get is the usual "loading library" (on my air's itunes) but it never connects.
Other than restarting the application (on both computers) and restarting (both computers) what else can I do?
Are other people having the same problem??

    Hi Bryan,
    Thanks for your input.
Unfortunately I cannot get any of the OS X browsers I have tried to get beyond the accepting the site's certificate. All just stall waiting on the Outlook Web Access site. Safari 3.1, Camino, Flock, Firefox (2.0.0.12 and 3 beta 4), Netscape (7.1 and 9), Microsoft's Internet Explorer (thinking that might be more integrated with its Outlook Web Access package).
I have even deleted the certificates from my Keychain (for Safari) or within the other browsers' preferences.
Last night I even re-applied the 10.4.11 combo updater and then checked for software updates to confirm my system was up to date, but again without success when attempting to reach the Outlook Web Access site.
    Thanks anyway.

  • I can no longer connect to the internet from any other device.

Having successfully upgraded to OS X Mavericks from Snow Leopard I can now no longer connect to the internet from  any other device.  I have an iPhone 4S, a Galaxy Tab, and an internet radio, none of which can connect to the internet since the upgrade.  They connect to my BT Home Hub without a hitch, it’s just that they do not connect at all to any website.  All was fine before the update.
The upgrade was to my iMac and that’s fine, no connection or surfing issues.
