E63 - Mail sound notification

Hi, is there a way with the E63 so that after a mail comes in, it doesnt sound every few minutes.
Its very annoying specially if a mail comes during sleep hours.
Thanks in advance!!

Set your profile to "silent". You'll sleep a lot better.

  • Send Mail Sound Notification

    Hello All,
Prior to iOS 7 when sending email you would tap send and the mail would process the email and once the messages was carried you would hear the "whosh" sound indicating the email had been sent.  Then since iOS 7 when sending email you hear the "whosh" sound immediately and the email processes to be carried.  This is very misleading that the mail has been sent when it is still sitting in your out box. I had more confidence knowing when I hear the mail notification that the email had been processed and sent. Now I have to keep tabs on whether its been sent or not; this has burnt me when I upgraded and my mails didn't get sent, thinking that they had.
Anyone had this problem, is there a way to trigger the sound notification when its been sent rather than making the sound before its been sent?
Again very misleading when it actually hasn't been sent yet.
    Thank you

You are probably connecting to GMail using IMAP and have Mail set to allow push connections (ie, the server contacts your machine when new mail comes in). The sound is not played in that case. Go to Mail -> Preferences -> Accounts, select your GMail account and click the Advanced tab. The checkbox at the very bottom says "Use IDLE command if the server supports it" - uncheck that. Now you'll only get mail as often as you have Mail set to check for mail, but you'll get the sound when there's new mail.

I have a nearly identical problem with my Ipad 3. Mine is the left channel. I've yet to find help, but have found a number of other posts on this and other forums discussing the issue. People have tried restore, reset etc. Also, cleaning the ports with compressed air or cotton swabs. It appears to be a software issue, but no one is sure.
Along with the original poster, I'd appreciate any help.
As far as the 'level 6' poster, if you're going to be rude, please don't bother. Hope it was just a bad day.

  • Mail sound settings set to None but still receive notification sound for all new mail

My sound settings for new mail are set to Alert Tones: None, Vibrate Only, but I still receive a sound notification for all new mail.  Why is my phone not recognizing the setting?  I have turned off and back on the phone numerous times hoping that would help, but it has not.  How can I make the phone recognize the settings that I have purposefully set?

    afhammerC,
So I understand: you have friends whose iPhone 4S's do vibrate when mail is received in silent mode, and no sounds are selected for new mail, but vibrate is selected for silent mode?
    Just want to be clear.
My wife has an iPhone 4S 16gb, and it appears she has the same problem as well.
As an aside to the issue, I really wish there was a way to have a timer on the notification center so we could put one, many, or all apps' notfication to sleep during a specific time period (say, during the night).  V. annoying to have to disable notifications separately.  Would love a way to turn them off between, say, midnight at 6am.

  • E-mail and Text Mesage Sounds (Notifications)

E-mail and Text Mesage Sounds (Notifications) are too low and since they all sound the same I never know if I have a new E-mail or a New Text Message. How can I set up different sounds for E-mails and Text Messages?
Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Sprint)

if you go to pimpmypre.com, you can change the ringtone for your text/email.  unfortunately, you cannot change them individually for text and email, but it expands your options from the pre default ringtone.
it's a small step, but not the solution.

Same problem I just realized I had. using IMAP mobileme server. No new mail sound. All other sounds work fine. Obviously a problem on Apple's end in the way the new mobile me/imap & Mail app work.

  • Sound notification on Mail

    hello,
My email is working fine on MAIL.
Only one hiccup; the sound notification, although selected as yes in the preferences, it doesn't sound whenver there's a new email; it only works 2 out of 10 times...
I've tried a different sound file as well and that has the same behaviour. Only sounds 2 out of 10 times or so when there's a new email.
Anyone knows why? or how I can fix it perhaps?
    thanks

    Hello Chris:
FWIW, I have the same intermittent +"no sound at times"+ issue. Rather than start trying to address the issue (and, perhaps, causing other problems)I have lazily ignored it. I am posting this so you know it happens elsewhere.

  • My 5s is stuck on one sound notification for mail.

My iPhone 5S will not let me change the sound settings for ring tone/text tone/new mail/etc.  When I go to Settings--Sounds and make choices, they show on the screen, but the old/original sounds are still what the phone emits when in use.  I did update to 8 (or whatever it's called) and things don't work like they used to.  But these sound notifications are my basic problem.  Any suggestions?  Thanks, Ron

Try inserting and removing the headphone jack seven or eight times.

  • No email sound notification

    Hi all,
on my new iPhone 3G I have several email accounts set to check every 15 min. When the iPhone is in standby mode it does receive those new mails, which I can see on the Mail icon when I switch on, but I never hear a sound notification, although switched on.
Is this supposed to work like that?
    Thanks

I have been having the same problem and even got Apple to replace the phone.
Same problem on the second phone.
But, everyone I know who has an iPhone, including my husband, has the email sound working fine.
    Has anyone found the answer?
Also, a question: What type of email account is giving you the problem and what is the domain?

  • Changing New Mail Sound

I have an iPhone 4 (AT&T) running iOS 6.0.1. My "New Mail" sound persists in being Tri-tone, despile all my efforts to silence it or change it to another sound.
I have tried to reset it using Settings>Sounds as well as Settings>Notifications>Mail without success. I have restarted many times, and done a complete reset/restore once, all without success. The settings appear to be correct, but the loud Tri-tone sound still persists.
    Any suggestions?

I have done a complete backup and restore (twice), as well as a "Reset all Settings".   Neither solved the problem.  I have not yet done a "Restore as new iPhone" because of all the effort that would entail, and because I have become doubtful that any of these things will help.
I may just have to live with the problem.  I was hoping that I had just overlooked a simple setting somewhere.
    Thanks for your help!

  • How can I get Mail sounds to turn off for junk and other non-Inbox new mail?

This week my Mail sound started going off for all types, incessantly, including receipt of the much Junk filtered out of the Inbox into Junk.  Formerly I received alert sounds only for new Inbox mail.  I have unchecked the "Play sounds for other actions" in Mail Preferences which does no good.  Any suggestions will be welcomed.  Thanks.

Did you install any software which includes or is a notification program such as Growl? Those may override any options you've set in the Preferences.

  • Is powernap supposed to play sound notifications?

My macbook is always connected to the power adapter and I use it in closed lid clamshell mode with an external display and input devices. I believe my macbook does sleep in the night but often times I hear new mail notification sounds from my speakers in the night and in the morning! I believe it might be fetching emails using power nap but my question is, is it supposed to play sound notifications during power nap?
Please let me know so that I can ensure if my macbook is entering proper sleep or not. Any log I can see to find out if it has slept at given times?

    Hello there, AceNeerav.
The following Knowledge Base article provides some great information about Power Nap and the question you ask:
    OS X: About Power Nap

    Silence
During Power Nap the lights go out on your computer. System sounds also run silent with no fans (Flash storage Macs only, not including Fusion Drive). When your Mac wakes up, it’s ready to go.
Note: If you use the Play Sound or Send Message feature of Find My Mac, Power Nap does not make a sound.
Additionally this article may enlighten on why your Mac may not be entering sleep mode:

  • Mail Sounds Too Loud

Since upgrading to Leopard I notice that my Mail notification sounds all of a sudden are very loud in comparison to the ordinary alert sounds and other audio. Has anyone else noticed that? Solution?
Resetting the alert sounds in System Preferences doesn't seem to affect it
Not a major issue, just a minor irritation. But the swoosh when mail is sent sounds like a plane taking off in the room even when other audio is at a low level.

I'm having the same problem. The sound volume is linked to the regular sound volume so if I listen to music the chosen new mail sound effect blares out. Perhaps that's intended (otherwise you'd not know you have new mail) but I hate it and was forced to disable mail sounds altogether to prevent getting a heart attack.
