E65 - basic features missing

Just purchased an E65.
Beautiful thing but there are so many useful features missing that I am used to in my old Nokia phones.
1. Can't change font settings - there is only one fint and it is very small.
2. Can't set repeat alarm.
3. No smiley
4. Can't cancel start up tone
I can go on and on. I read that the software used for E65 is Simbian or something which is different from the one used for old Nokia phones, S60? The lack of basic but very useful features in the E65 has been very disaponting indeed
Didn't Nokia test the phone for these basic features?
What is Nokia's rationale for having these features removed?

I can confirm that all the points you make are common to all the latest N- and E-series phones - which all run Symbian 60 3rd Edition.
For the first problem, the only thing you can do is select a theme with high contrast .. or buy a magnifying glass.
For the second, there are a number of 3rd party solutions that provide the sort of alarm functionality you're after. They're all very expensive for what they are though: I was looking at one yesterday until I realised it was US$20! I mean, US$5, OK, but US$20? For a daily alarm? Fuggedaboudit ..
Don't know what you can do about the last two. I guess if you could find the Nokia start up sound file you could replace it with an empty file, but you'd need 3rd party tools and anyway, I doubt it can be done.

  • Basic features missing in E61 (and other Nokias) v...

I've been using Nokia Smartphone since quite a number of years now, and I'm still estonished about all the excitement that any release of a new models is generating, because basically : nothing is changing. OK, better integrated cameras. OK, integrated Wifi... But come on, let's be honnest, it's time for a revolution. I'm getting really tired of Symbian S60's interface...
Anyhow, I had lately a Nokia E61, and finally sold it away. Why ?
    1) Mail application is not able to correctly format a HTML mail. And let's face it, we receive less and less "pure ascii text" messages. Time for an evolution. Some might say : go for Profimail on S60. OK, fine, but then how to I use BlackBerry Connect or Mail for Exchange ???
    2) Basic calendar : after so many years, the calendar application also did not evolve. For a phone that claims to be a business phone (E61), the notion of meeting is still ignored by Nokia. And yes, I want and need to know when looking at my agenda who invited me for a meeting and who are the other invitees, and this is not possible with Nokia. And still on the agenda topic, whether using Blakberry connect or Mail for Exchange, it is not possible to receive meeting invitations and accept/decline them, nor is it possible to create new meetings and invite people. For this I need to go back to my PC = E61 will never be *my* business phone.
Come on, wake up Nokia : time for innovation !!!

    this may help..

  • Basic Feature missing in Acrobat Reader 7

I am totally disappointed, that comments can't be printed by Acrobat Reader 7.
I have just upgraded to Acrobat Prof 7 and Reader 7, expecting to enable projects partners printing comments. Tests have shown, editing comments works absolutely fine in both programs, but printing comments in Reader 7 doesn't work ( - in Prof 7 it does of course).
Is this the Business Politics of Adobe to have the clients upgrade again to version 8 to activate Comments printing in Acrobat Reader ???
This no fair play any more, it reminds me of Oracle and Microsoft behavior ...
    Regards
    Karl

    >>>But the result by functionality (from the user's point of view) is generally the same
LiveCycle Reader Extensions is a server product and it is primarily targeted enterprises and large coorporations. Its costs are in the thousands or more whereas Acrobat is the end user desktop version and it costs about $400 a piece.
What makes you think that they are the same? Your argument is "a vehicle is a vehicle". However, there is a big difference between a "motocycle" and a "commercial bus". Even though both of them takes you from point A to point B. But there are capabilities that a bus can do that the motocycle can't. You can put more people on the bus but you can't with the motocycle. You can be comfortable as a driver and passengers on the bus and the ride can last for hours but you can't do that with the motocycle.
It is simple, they are two different things even though they are in the same categoy called "vehicle".
The "motocycle-bus" analogy is comprehensive to a novice because it is a physical things that one can see. When it comes to software, it is a conceptual things that is not too obvious.
    >>>I have been in Software development for two decades, it is just copying code form Acrobat Prof to the Reader program at maximum, more probably these lines of code are already in but have been disabled in Acrobat Reader ...!!!
Then you should already know it better if you claim that you are in software industry for 2 decades.
You know Karl, until someone else (maybe it would be you) comes out with something similar to Adobe products, everyone of us still have to pay to use Adobe products.
Remember the day when we had to pay for a browser? Browsers are now basically free and can do a lot more than what its ancestors can.

  • Basic mobile phone features missing

I miss on my iPhone the following basic features you find almost on many other mobile phones from other manufacturers:
    - ability to send/receive complete contact list or members of my contact list to other phones via SMS or Bluetooth
    - ability to send/receive calendar appointments via Bluetooth or SMS
    - Bluetooth file transfer
    - video recording
    - send notes via SMS or Bluetooth
    - real Bluetooth support when it comes to the communication with an advanced car kit (transfer of the agenda, antenna and battery indicator, permanent contact with the car kit)
    - add new ringtones (not only via iTunes)
    - create ringtones from own music (and not only from the one purchased via iTunes)
Will we ever see such features on the iPhone? If yes, when?

I'm pretty sure there's a workaround that allows you to make ringtones from any audio file, (of the right length and format), it's not that longwinded either. Involves using garageband.
There is also an app that'll do it for you.
If I remember what it is I'll post back.

  • Spent thousands of dollars and can't even use basic features

    MacBook Pro - $2000
    iPhone - $800
    Apple TV - $100
What the **** is going on with Apple?
I can't sync my iPhone and MacBook Pro. Sometimes is discovers both devices but then fails to sync. Other times neither recognises each other even when they're both in the list. As part of Mavericks, I'm supposed to be able to share Maps with other devices, but it won't recognise my iPhone. Why the **** did I spend nearly three dollars on Apple products when I now have to go back to my PC for basic features. I've spent hours on the phone with Apple about problems, and while the service might be immediate and very couteous, most the time they don't understand what I'm talking about or they haven't got a solution. With thousands of features on the iPhone and Macbook Pro, I only wanna use about 2 dozen.
Here's some of the things I don't even bother with now -
iTunes - Can't delete recent plays, can't stop it playing from that same list the moment you plug it into a plug and play, so huge and cumbersome with too many features, but just try playing music only. I don't want album covers or info downloaded from the Net. I don't want all the songs segregated into albums and the like. I play songs and then try to find them in Recently Played and they're not even there, but songs I've play over a year ago and which I don't want arer still stubbornly there and can't be deleted. Media Player is the same. I'ma prefoessinal musician and sound engineer and I've never known anyone to have used more than 10% of the features in iTunes. Who the **** are the Apple tech heads developing products for? Scientific Audiologists? Pathetic program, don't even use nowadays, but it still has the ability of popping it's ugly head up from time to time.
Audio - I run Logic Pro X and EVERYTIME I connect a new audio interface, I have to go to Preferences>Sound and change the Input and Output. EVERYTIME!!!!!!!!!! Sometimes when recording, I have to the correct the sound preferences 40 times a day, I've counted them on a number of occasions. Apple is meant to be THE audio expets and yet I'm back using Cubase on my PC or even sometimes having to go back to my old iMac and Logic Pro 9!! Along problems I'm experiencing with Logic Pro x, Apple now wants me to return my MacBook pro to them possibly for up to six weeks. This is after I've transferred my whole business on to the MacBook Pro and literally can't do without it.
Contacts - they don't sync with iCloud, other devices, Skydrive or any other synced app, although, sometimes they do.
The Dock - some of the Apps in the Dock when already opened won't open with a click or double click. I have to right click on the icon, Show All Windows and only then can I open the App. On my PC, I open all programs in "their dock" with one click.
Let me explain what will happen now. Nothing. I can't afford to give my MacBook Pro to Apple to fix or even call them up again about these probs cause it takes HOURS and HOURS and HOURS and HOURS. Last time I rang them, it cost me about $300 in lost productivity.
I think that when Steve Jobs passed away, Apple died along with him.
I'm not an Appy Chappy ... pathetic

    Do you have a question?

  • About the iPhone and it's "lack of basic features"

There are SO MANY rants going on in this discussing board about the iPhone lacking "basic features" of a cellphone. Here is my response to all of them at once. (I know this has nothing to do with user-to-user technical support, but the topic is discussed on here enough to warrant this post.)
Sure, I would like to be able to send texts messages to multiple contacts, I would love to be able to add my own ringtones, copy and paste, and picture message. Here's the deal, Apple didn't set out to create a product with those features, they didn't set out to create a product that is like all the others or that has all the best features that every other phone has. They started over. They didn't compare it to any other phone. They have said over and over that the iPhone is a completely new product from the ground up. Sure it includes some features that can be found in phones that came before it, but it's all done in a new way. It's not some super phone that combines the best of every smartphone out there. They were very open about this and listed EVERYTHING the phone was going to be capable of. No, they didn't tell you the things that it wouldn't do, that's not the angle they were taking when designing and marketing this product, no one does that. The iPhone does everything they said it would do and does it better than any other phone that has the same features. So how can anyone come on here a gripe about it lacking basic features? The features I listed above are features that someone else reading this may never need or want. Basic features to you are not going to be basic features to me. Basic features 3 years ago are not basic features today nor will they be in 3 years. There are no basic features when it comes to the iPhone, other then perhaps the phone part. When you set out to create a product from the ground up, you don't start with a list of features that need to be included. You start with a blank slate and build on that, from your own ideas, your own technology, not based on what anyone else is doing or what has been done in the past. This is what Apple has done, and they have been very clear about it from day one. So please, if you feel that the iPhone lacks the "basic features" on a cell phone, take it back so that someone else can have that phone and enjoy its "basic features," that are like no other phone before it.

Your posting should have went to the Apple.com feedback section instead of posting it here in the user to user forum, this goes back to doing research on what the iphone can and cannot do before making the purchase you have to remember this is just the first generation iphone just like there was a first generation ipod most likely they'll be enhancements coming up for the iphone i myself am happy with my iphone, how many cell phones out there have visual voicemail?

  • CUCM 8.6 VPN Advance Feature Missing

As per the title, i have installed Cisco UCM 8.6. I am deploying SSL VPN on the router and Cisco IP-Phones as SSL client to be connected to CUCM.
I cannot find any VPN service/feature in CUCM 8.6 which i have recently installed. There is no VPN option under Advance features under CUCM OS administration. Also during issuer cert upload, there is no Phone-VPN-Trust.

  • Why did you take away my REFRESH button in FF 29? How can anyone with a clue decide it is a good idea to remove a BASIC feature like a REFRESH BUTTON?

This is absolutely ridiculous. How can anyone think it is a GOOD IDEA to REMOVE basic features such as a REFRESH BUTTON from something called a WEB BROWSER?!
No, I do not want to have to go all the way over to no-man's land on the right hand side of the address bar to click a tiny little refresh button over there! I want to put it where it ALWAYS has been on ALL my browsers. ON THE FREAKING LEFT next to the back button.
The person who came up with idea should be fired.
The person who approved this idea should be fired.
The person who let the final build go out the door without including a simple and easy way to get the refresh button back as part of a "customize" feature should also be fired.
None of these people have clue about what people want in a CUSTOMIZABLE web browser.
No, I do not want to revert to some past "classic theme". That is not a solution That is ridiculous.
No, I do not want the add-on bar restored. That is not a solution. Do not tell me that it is a solution.
What I want, is a button, in the customize box, that is a refresh button, that I can put where I want it, like it should have been from the start!
    Fix it!

    That is not a solution.
I want it fixed (like thousands of other people).
I don't want to hack it up.. or use add-ons. I just want my damned refresh button back and I want it put it on the frickin left.
I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it any more.
Quit screwing around and fix this!

  • Basic features

I appoligise for my lack of exprtise at using this forum, someone responded that the iphone has a video player, that is obviouse due to the fact that it plays u-tube, however it does so by converting the video to a format that 95% of the rest of the web will not play on. In fact even video on apples own web sight will not play on the iPhone. Even other sights that utalize quicken, apples own video player, will not play on the iPhone. When I say these "basic" features one should be able to "assume" to work on the iPhone based on the way it was advertised as "not kind of sort of Internet but the Internet the way the Internet was meant to be experienced" (quotation marks deliberate) tell me one other phone released in the last year as "Internet capable" that does not have IM, picture in text, and widely copatable video player. Thanx McDog

Actually, that statement is not quite true. I have used my iPhone repeatedly to show people new features in Leopard on Apple's website and those videos play fine. I think what you are looking for is support for Flash. The video codec for the iPhone is Quicktime H.264–almost exclusively what Apple uses on their website.
In the future there may be support for flash, but for now, there is none. What I heard was that Flash eats up so much battery life that it was omitted to save people's batteries from dying after just a few hours of use.

  • Is it possible to develop tookit that provides features missing in profilel

    Hi,
Is it possible to develop a toolkit that makes features missing in MIDP available to application developers? For eg, I want to develop a tookit targetted at the game developers.. how can i do this? any clues?
    Thanx
    Ruchika

    Thanx for the help.
I undertsand that it is possible to write a toolkit on top of a profile, but is it possible to write a toolkit that sits at the same level as the profile... (for eg: some additional features) and allow the application to use features from both the profile and the custom toolkit?
My best guess on this is that only the device manufacturers can do such a thing but i am not sure about this. Any clues?
    Thanx

  • Basic feature.. Why won't it say?

Ok... Seems like it should  be something that it should be able to do..
I'm trying to download (purchase a season pass) a tv show and it's telling "cannot download not enough space" no biggie but why can't you tell me how space you require and how much I'm off so I don't delete more than I need to.
And why won't it still let me purchase the season pass and only download what it can until I free up space. For instance the season of the show has 10 episodes and iTunes only can download 5 well when I'm done watching those 5 I delete them and the remaining 5 download?
Seems like such a basic feature....
    /frustrated

yes ZEO5520 it would have helped in the situation but when traveling (especially international) it's not always condusive to pack all electronics and haul them around. this is not about syncing to a pc. good suggestion but not always the case.
my point is, in this day in age with technology, we should get more of a detailed message other than "there's not enough space"
I was more or less complaining because I had 12 gigs free on my ipad yet the TV series I wanted to download was 13.7gigs had I know that I could have freed up a couple more gigs (ie delete things I don't really use anymore and extra apps) to accomedate the video or have itunes download what it can until more space becomes available. I ended up doing a large house cleaning and freed up almost 19gigs of space on my ipad after the show downloaded I still have 5+ gigs free. had I known how much space was required I could have planned better
if itunes can auto sync new shows in a current season it should be smart enough to say "I can only download 2 shows until more space is available"

  • 5500: Loss of some basic features

The 5500 has lots of good surprises, especially for those not familiar with Symbian OS. But one bad surprise is to discover the disappearance of a certain number of basic features which were available on my previous Nokia 5100, and many other earlier models! For example, there is no more really good way for the calender to memorise birthdays. Yes, it's true that you can write in the birthday of someone in the 'contacts' section. And yes, it is also true that there is an 'anniversary' item in the calender. But there are 2 major problems here: 1) It is not recurrent, i.e. it disappears after 1 time instead of automatically passing on to the next year. 2) There is no means to memorise the year of birth of the person so that the phone automatically calculates his age. My older Nokia 5100 did these things easily. So it's hard for me to understand why we should lose good proven basic features for the sake of adding new gadgets. My current firmware is 3.14. Will an upgrade to 3.18 fix this?

I just checked FrameMaker help and discovered that I must have accidentally changed to "Quick" menus.
    I've changed back to "Complete."

  • Surely developers included a basic feature to resume a download after firefox crashes. How do I activate it?

Surely the developers put in the basic feature of resuming a download after firefox has crashed from being nonresponsive. Where do I find this feature?

Firefox should be able to resume an unfinished download, if the server that delivered the download supports resume. In the download window, right-click that partial file and see if the '''Resume''' menu item is available.

  • When is iTunes going to be capable of basic features as proper Crossfading??

    Hi There,
When is iTunes going to be capable of such a basic feature as proper Crossfading??
Yes, there has been various  media players for windows for a long time now that are superior to iTunes in many ways, and i guess it is about time that iTunes has those basic features it should have as other simple media players
    - The Crossfade feature for iTunes works only if you let the song play until the very end, that is actually very silly, because the Crossfade feature is there so you can skip a songs smoothly into another song, meaning at any time you want to skip songs you can do it crossfading into the next song.
now this does not work in iTunes. or while playing a song you can just double click another song and there is an immediate and smooth crossfade into the selected song. (like in other media players)
Also it would be very good and important if you can Crossfade within the very same song that is being played, eg: a song that is very long and during the party you want to listen the first minute and then the last 5th minute of it, you can skip it sliding the dot positioning of the player that is moving forward to the right showing you where within the length of the song you are, what other players in Windows can do is do an immediate  crossfade of around 5 sec (it can be customised) so you can also smoothly forward within the same song. I am really surprise that until now iTunes is not capable of doing this useful features, there are some more, but these are those i am concern about.
Hope you are capable of making this important features available in iTunes so it can get to be a real great music player.

the Crossfade feature is there so you can skip a songs smoothly into another song, meaning at any time you want to skip songs you can do it crossfading into the next song.
You can provide feedback to Apple at this link:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html
Make sure to specify that you want the crossfade to be beat-matched.

  • Important feature - missing?

Re: 'How do I...' query below
All Pro audio software applications that I have used so far allow enabling of an effect/plug-in at any given instance along a timeline, and then disable it again, by way of the bypass control (using an automation channel). But, under the controllable parameter options (drop-down list available in the effects column) in STP I can find no such option.
Is this feature missing in STP? Is it handled differently? Surely you do not need a new track for every different effect you want to apply.
My respect for any puzzle solver

    You might consider adding Buses.
    Here is an example:
We shot a film inside a large, 1920's stone room. So I added a Bus called Echo. I then clicked on my dialgue tracks and clicked SEND to ECHO. Soundtrack will then play Track1 and the Bus at the same time. So I added EXTREME echo to my Echo Bus to give the illusion his voice echoes in speakers L, R, SR and SL. When ever we aren't in the large room, I take the volume of the Bus and drop it to zero. When we return to the room, I bring it back up to my default level.
If you want an Alien sound, just create another Bus called Alien and send your tracks to that Bus.
In this case, Track 1 has two Sends (Echo and Alien) and there are two busses, Echo and Alien. Whenever you want to add an effect, just bring up the volume on your bus.
It's a pain to route, but it's better than adding the effects to each clip and then 'save as' RickVoice_A.aiff, RickVoice_B.aiff, and so on.
    Hope that helps
