E65 bugs, I'm fed up

More than 600 euros to get two brand new E65 but i'm sorry, someone should solve the bugs

Two phone with the same probs, i'm fed up with this,
PLEASE RELEASE A NEW FIRMWARE!
I tried already to install the same software which is the last one here in Italy but still!
As i can read here in UK people are having the same bugs even with a different firmware so DO SOMETHING!

X6 owners - fed up with your terrible quality phone?
Please have a read and add your own bugs if you want - I want to write to Nokia with some of the main ones that need to get sorted, and soon. Surely with enough support / evidence they can't ignore us (although I'm not holding my breath!). You know, I'm struggling to find a thread on this forum which isn't about an 'issue', 'bug' or 'problem' with the phone. I'm fed up with it. We all paid a lot of money for the phone (whether it was part of a contract or not) and I just want it to WORK.
It is without doubt the worst phone I've ever owned. Anyone else with me?
Glitchy, buggy, slow and unpredictable don't even begin to describe it...I'm now on my second one, with the first one deciding to pack up a few months back with a dropping signal problem (from full bar to no bar in about 5 seconds, and then back to full back about 15 seconds later) - Nokia deemed it BER and after a letter from me, replaced it with a new one...the fact that the second one has exactly the same issues as the first confirm to me just how terrible the build quality of the phone is.
Any of the below issues sound familar to anyone? Some are phone related, others app/Ovi/Nokia related :
* Ovi Maps freezing during navigation, even when you're not interacting with the phone or running any background apps. Literally just spontaneously. Requires hard restart most of the time as you can rarely force it to close.
* iPhone 4 style signal issue whereby holding it in a normal 'phone grip' fashion results in signal dropping completely or nearly completely.
* General signal drops during calls - anyone else notice you can be on a phone call in a full signal area (with 3G etc) and calls will just drop; take a look at your phone and you have no signal? Give it 30 seconds and you'll be back up to full bars again.
* Spotify (if anyone has it) just randomly crashing ALL THE TIME, again without any background apps running (ironially it seems to be more reliable with a few things running in the background)
* Facebook app thinks stuff that happened two weeks ago is the latest news that it wants to tell me about. Hit refresh and it still thinks old news is new news. Reinstall and wiping of all user data to no joy (same issue even post-phone reset)
* "Realplayer" able to play about 3% of videos I want to watch on the internet - basically a few MPEGs...don't even think about a low-res MP4 stream (where we get the dreaded "Trying to play partially" message). Any UK owners tried running a stream off m.tvcatchup.com? Good luck!
* (Just a general gripe here but) Lack of widget support for the homescreen and general lack of integration support for 3rd party apps to the OS - why oh WHY in this day and age of smart phones are S60v5 Nokias unable to have apps like Facebook spider in to some of the phone's functions? E.g. notifications on the homescreen (the original iPhone was able to do this in January 2007, its now September 2010 Nokia - wakey wakey) and profile pictures linked in with the phone's address book (my friend's HTC Desire does this VERY nicely; I'm jealous).
Before my X6, I had a 6230i (don't laugh, I know its ancient but it worked a treat, absolutely bomb proof which is why I never bothered upgrading)...I just don't understand how backwards this phone seems to be in terms of its flimsy build quality and diabolical OS.
This will definitely be my last ever Nokia. Seriously...I've been a Nokia fanboy all my life but I'm just embarassed by this phone. It is absolute rubbish and I so so so wish I'd gotten a Blackberry or Android. Talk about less hassle.
I'm running v21.0.0.4, although I feel I might as well be running an Alpha build of S60v5.
Any other annoyances and bugs, boys and girls?
p.s. the camera may be its sole redeeming feature - very good photo quality for a phone - takes the iPhone to the cleaners.

On balance I agree with bazyeo, I am another long term X6 owner (Dec 09) and on the whole I am fairly pleased with the phone. Sure it's not perfect and one of my major personal gripes with the phone is the relatively poor RAM allocation that Nokia decided upon during the hardware design but it's hardly a show stopper for me. I guess I was spoilt as my previous phone was a Nokia N82.

Oh come on!! This is a user support forum, you know? Where people come for help when they have problems with their phones. It's pretty obvious that you'll read the majority of threads where owners have issues... that's because they have come here for help. You're hardly going to get a bunch of threads where owners turn up out of the blue to thank Nokia for a problem free phone. That's like saying all you see at a hospital are sick people.

Not even close, try the N80 on V3 firmware... now that was an order of magnitude worse.

Ovi maps does hit hard on resources but I personally haven't suffered the issues you speak of.
I can get my X6 to drop maybe a bar (at the very max 2 bars) of signal if I wrap my hands around the handset. Again for me, not a big issue.
I'm afraid I don't use Spotify or Facebook so can't comment on those issues of yours.
Knowing what codecs to use helps with video playback using Real Player. A search here should give you the required information. I can run MP4, FLV & WMV quite happily provided they have the right codecs that the X6 can handle. If you want to enjoy m.tvcatchup.com then try installing the 3rd party web browser called Skyfire.
There are quite a few alternative 3rd party homescreens that can add widget functionality to the homescreen.
Good luck with your letter to Nokia, I'm afraid I won't be signing your petition. As I said right at the top of this post, sure I have niggles with the X6 but none of them are show stoppers for me and personally I can forgive the X6 most things because I really enjoy the quality of the screen and the capacitive touch interface.
*EDIT* I almost forgot to ask... is yours a SIM free X6 or a network branded X6?

Nokia E65 latest firmware serious problem or bug !...

Yesterday night I decided to update my mobile software using nokia software updater to solve a performance issue as mentioned in the website.
I took a full back on my MMC then started the update.
My mobile software version was 1.00.XXXXX and the new release is 4.XXXXXX
The update completed successfully, but after I restarted the mobile I was shoked of the following issues :
- The arabic language disappeared from the phone lagnauge selection.
- MMC requested a passrowd to ulock it !!! while I dont remember that I set a password for it or I may set it once long time back but I forgot it now.
I'm surprized for what happened as I had a discussion last night with my father regarding Nokia trust relation ship .
Please advice how can I solve my issues ASAP.

Bug & Conflict w/ Palm Destop 6 & Windows Media Player

I am a long time Palm user but my T2 was not getting much use considering I was already carrying Two cell phones. But I was excited to get an upgrade to a Centro for one of my phones. Now I am dealing with the differences between PalmDesktop4 (PD4) and PD6 on Windows XP SP3.
I found what appears to be a critical bug in the installation of PD6 in that it has some very undesirable interactions with Windows Media Player (WMP) 10 & 11. Let me preface by saying that I am not using WMP or PocketTunes for any syncing or transferring any media to my Centro. My Centro is only used for calendar, contacts, calculators, and Docs2Go.
I have installed PD6 and the PD6 user data to a removable drive for personal privacy on a work computer. The error is that when ever the drive is not mounted and wmplayer.exe is started, Windows searches for the Palm Access Installation package on my removable drive and attempts to start a installation of PD6. Of course it does not find the .msi and the only thing that happens is my computer locks up till I close WMP and then the ACCESS installer goes away. If the removable drive is mounted with the PD6 application directory and the PD6 user data, WMP loads quickly and appears to work fine.
Why is WMP trying to connect to applications or support files in the PD6 application directory?
I can only assume that the new PD6 media tab now is hooked into some windows media services. PD6 must be registered as a client/helper app to windows media and WMP is trying to load or locate the registered resources.
The big problem with this is that my user data path gets over written with PD6 installation defaults in the Windows Registry and I have to manually reset all the PalmDesktop registry data to point PD6 at my really user path on the V: drive.
This should not be installed this way. The association between the two applications appears to be an error in the ACCESS installation package for PD6.
I used Palm.com “Chat” support four or five time for some very basic support in getting my new Centro setup. The Palm.com “Chat” support was great. For this issue they were absolutely useless. One support person affirmed that I should be able to use the removable drive, the next just had me do reinstalls for PD6 (that I had already done) and then told me I would have to use the defaults for C:\Program Files and D:\Documents and Settings\username... They recommended that I use the Palm.com phone support number.
I did this and it had to be one of the worse support calls I have made in a while (case number 1-51474282949). Why is it impossible to get any computer software or hardware company to support the desktop software they putout? I got the same tech support baby talk about “reinstalling the application”, “use the default installation path”, “its not our application” and “you will have to contact Microsoft for support on your operating system”. Ahhhhh!
I was not even able to speak with a “Level 2” tech support person. I demanded that I be connected to a technical person a not just fed the same FAQ crap that I could find on the website. The “Level 2” person would not take my call but just passed the message to the “Level 1” Person that I would have to contact Microsoft.
So I am posting this message here to the Palm fourm in hope that the software engineering team will see this and be able to either patch their software or give me the .reg key to break the association between WMP and PD6. Below I have posted a long list of my Chat support that explains the issues in further technical details, and also details the lack of detailed skilled support available at Palm.com.

I found this out because every time Windows Media player starts it tries to start Palm Desktop or the Palm Desktop install/remove program. I get a pop up window and progress bar that says “Palm Desktop by Access”. The only way to get rid of this pop up window is to shut down windows media player. So if my V: drive is not mounted just starting windows media player corrupts the user “Path” registry settings. It just so happens our work voicemail uses media player on the computer.

What the heck is going on? How can I stop Windows Media Player from triggering the palm desktop application? Better yet why does it even try?
It does this when I simply open windows media player, even without a file. Just opening the Windows Media player application by it’s self causes this behavior.

To keep me from doing this by launching PD6 from the C: drive I installed it to V:. No .exe no launchy. It works fine. What is hooking into windows media player. A .msi is a Microsoft install package, not a media file. We can do a clean install but why would running windows media player start the palm install/uninstall .msi file? I have not heard why?

Did all this above. Still have Windows Media Player trying to launch the ACCESS .msi installer which creates these processes:

I have let windows media player and windows installer run a bit longer and I get a second window titled "windows installer" with the text:

I browsed my way to C:\WINDOWS\Installer and found a new .msi for PD6 called C:\WINDOWS\Installer\45599.msi and renamed it to C:\WINDOWS\Installer\45599_PalmNeedsBetterSoftware_msi
Still have the same issues from above. I thought if the .msi failed to be found then the error might just get passed over. So I do not know where IDriver.exe or other MS Installer applications is getting the values for 'Palm Desktop by ACCESS.msi'?
Again it is very odd that the ACCESS installer it trying to run when windows media player is launched (even with out any media, app only). Please do not tell me to do another "Clean Install" that is just BABY-TALK tech support at this point!!! I need to know why the PalmDesktop ACCESS installer is hooking into Windows Media Player. There is no doubt something odd is going on. As long as the V: drive where my Palm Desktop applications and user data is stored there is no problem. As soon as the V: drive is off line I have all these issues.
I noticed that PalmDesktop now has advanced media tools to "Make Video" in the media tab of Palm Desktop. This is where you can export a .mpg slide show of all you photos from your palm photos.
I would bet you a free year of Verizon's wireless data plan that the new Palm Desktop is registered as some type of client application to windows media service. When windows media player loads it tries to register all the clients and the Palm media client application is not available so some how MS Windows tries to start the PalmDesktop installer to fix the client media application.
Please note that I am not using Pocket Tunes at all, not trying to sync pTunes with Windows media or Rhapsody or any other media junk. Right now I want my palm to just be a extra smart contact and calendar manager, that’s all.
PALM NEEDS TO PATCH THIS. Palm Desktop should call Windows Media when it needs it, not have Palm Desktop registered as a client application to Windows Media by default!
PLEASE TELL ME THERE IS A SIMPLE FAQ FIX FOR ALL NONSENSE???

Yes I have removed and reinstalled WMP.
I had good results with the PD6 application installed on the default path onto the C: drive with the one exception that if the application was launched by accident and the user data path was not available, the PD6 application would blow away my custom user path registry settings. Now that I know what they are I have made a .reg file to repair my registry to my desired user data paths.
Installing the application on the removable drive appeared to help prevent me from launching the application by accident and overwriting my registry with default user paths.
So which is the less of the two evils?
If the application directory is not available, windows media player still tries to launch the .msi for installing PD6.
If I install the application to the C: drive but the user data to the removable drive, launching the PD6 application without the user data drive will still corrupt my registry settings for a user data path.
Both these issues seem like a logical (if not easy) fix that should be done in the PD6 application and installation package. I mean really, cannot anyone tell me why windows media player is checking the PD6 application directory? Why in PD4 did we have an option control for setting the user data path from the PD4 application? Why is this option not in the PD6 application, just the installer?
I am given a choice during installation to move the user data to another non default location. Why else would this be provided if not to accommodate my kind of request to store the user data into an alternate location other than “My Document”. Certainly Palm is not trying to force the users on how to protect and store their personal data?

New firmware for Nokia E65?

I've heard many who have updated their Nokia E65 to firmware v3.0633.69.00 but my updater still says v2.0633.65.01 . Where do I get the v3?
And my E65 is very very very slow to open menus and messages. Anyone else got this problem? How can I fix this sluggish phone and make it faster? It sometimes take 5-6 seconds to open the menu or an SMS. That's realy bad

I updated my E65 to v3 at Nokia Care Point (even though it was not available in NSU, they told me they always receive the firmware upgrades first than they are released to the Internet/NSU).
After a couple of weeks using this new firmware, I noticed battery improvements (with 3G switched off), the phone is little to nothing faster, and some minor bugs I was experiencing related to WLAN were corrected.
As to your E65 being slow, I once was experiencing the same with v2 firmware and the only solution I managed to fix it was to reset the phone.
I reseted after a back up, but then decided to restore only contacts and calendar entries, and reinstall all the applications from new/fresh downloads (as I noticed some of them didn't work if they were restored from the back up).
In the end, the phone was faster and more responsive.
I guess you could give it a try.

Fed up with "Unsupported File format" crashes!

I really like Aperture - but, I am totally fed up with only being able to edit a few photos before I get the dreaded red/brown screen and the message of 'Unsupported file format' This cannot be the case as they are all .tifs and I have just edited several OK. My whole day is now one of 'stop/start' and either quit or sometimes 'Force quit'. Then Aperture works fine for another short series of edits - before the same problem recurs. It wastes a lot of valuable editing time - and completely spoils the otherwise pleasurable experience of using Aperture!
I have made a lot of scans from original slides via a Nikon Coolscan 5000 - using Silverfast I have converted these from 48 bit to 24 bit. However, the file size is still large at 100MB - to get the best from the slides. I then import these .tifs into Aperture 2.1. I am using a MacBook Pro, 2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 MB RAM. I have an external 24 inch monitor. The .tif files are on an external firewire hard drive - 500 GB LaCie. My Aperture library is in my pictures folder on my MacBook Pro.
Can someone PLEASE explain how and why I can make a series of edits fine in Aperture and then suddenly I get the red/brown screen and this unsupported file format message?
Is it a memory problem? Given that I need to edit such large files is it a problem for my (powerful) MacBook Pro? Or, is it a more general problem with Aperure 2.1?

It's a bug in Aperture 2.x with large files and/or large pixel dimensions on images (not clear which). I have submitted a bug report, as should anyone who is seeing this. You'll find quite a few threads on this if you search back. The error message is frustratingly incorrect: there is nothing whatsoever unsupported or wrong with the file format, it just leads you down some dead ends in trying to find a solution while you figure that out.
I could sometimes not even work on one image before it would do this. I went from 6GB to 10GB in my Mac Pro, and now I can pretty reliably work on two images before having to restart. So that to me smells like a memory leak or memory mismanagement of some sort is at the root of this, but who knows. We're all just waiting for each next release, hoping Apple has finally found and fixed this, because as you know they don't spend a lot of time discussing what bugs they're addressing; they just show up fixed eventually (one hopes!)
If anyone chimes in here to tell you it's your fault for working with such large images, just ignore them. There were releases of 1.5 that handled these images just fine, as Aperture should. It broke with 2.x.

IMovie 09 BUG ? Amendments to Titles not reflected.

Something irritating happens to me in using iMovie '09.
I made a short 5 mins movie, after testing and what not & after being satisfied, I then goto Share > Export Movie, type a filename then press ENTER. A message then appeared and say "Preparing project ...". After 7 mins, the movie is completed.
Then when I played the movie, I realized I don't like the fonts of the titles. So I went back & amend the Title. Then I repeat Share > Export Movie. When I chose the same filename, it asked me whether I want to replace the old file. So, I clicked REPLACE.
When I opened up the file, it played the old movie (meaning the amendment of the title was not reflected). How come it is still playing the old file ?
Fed up, so I tried again, this time deleting the old file before sharing it again. Doesn't work, I tried deleting old file and naming a new file, it also doesn't work. I notice all this time after clicking Share > Export movie, instead of the message "Preparing Project", the message now says "Exporting Movie".
Being too fed up, this time I tried inserting some photos & then took it away & do more amendments. This time when I clicked Share > Export movie, it says "Preparing Project" and it worked !!
I can only conclude that after you clicked Share > Export movie, if the message says "Preparing Project", it will work but you got to pray that the message that comes out is not "Exporting Movie".
Is it a bug that you must make more amendments than just changing the fonts of the Titles ?
Is this a bug ? Or is there some settings that I missed out ?

I don't see prores 422, I do see aic. I tested this the other day and it offers zero compression, but it still gave me a soft output. I must have done something wrong with the settings. I used the preset for HDV 1080i and it still wasn't good. How do i get proress 422. Do i need to have final cut pro? I hope not.

2012 to 2010 conversion bug

I recently found this bug when converting a project from 2012 to 2010.
A foor loop using a conditional tunnel will be converted into a for loop with a case structure with a build array inside fed into a shift register.
The only problem is that this shift register doesn't get initialized, so the just keeps stacking values.

You can see there is also an unused constant hovering inside the for loop.
I have tested this in 2013 and the problem does not occure there.

I remember that bug being reported and was claimed to be fixed with 2013 (or was is 2012 SP1?). Either way, it has been fixed.

I'm now getting a little fed up with some of these bugs in Aperture, and there doesn't appear to be any kind of fix for these either.
First, and as recently mentioned in another thread, is the mixed up thumbnails. This happens randomly (apparently anyway), and is not fixed by rebuilding the library, or removing and rebuilding the Previews.
Next one is equally annoying, I cannot get my Stack picks to stick. I have tried selecting the images in different ways - using both the Main pick and the Album pick. However, they do not get remembered, and I end up exporting the wrong versions. They also get mixed up when adding to a web gallery. This is bad enough that I am unstacking everything at the moment - at least I would, but Aperture crashes when I try and do a large number.
Last one, and the least annoying, the Projects view gets corrupted text everytime I load Aperture, hitting Command-w twice fixes this one though.

E65 and Nissan bluetooth

My E65 pairs with the Bluetooth in my Nissan X-trail, and dials using voice dial, (although no sound of the dialing is heard). When the call is answered, the connection is dropped, although the phone is still paired. I have deleted the pairing and re-paired but the problem remains.
My husband's Nokia 9300 pairs and works ok.
Is there a bug, or is the E65 perhaps not backward compatible?

Have fixed mine as follows......delete the pairing completely from your vehicle, delete MY CAR from your phone, update ure phones software to version 2.0633.6501 (make sure u back up to PC 1st), set ure phones bluetooth status to HIDDEN activate REMOTE SIM, then pair again with ure nissan......Don't set the connection to authorised on the phone. Each time u turn on the ignition the phone will prompt u to connect (one press of a button). Mine works fine now for incoming & outgoing calls.

WRVS4400N - Logging and Email Alerts when I use a VPN client - Firmware bug?

I've got a problem with my WRVS4400N that has been dogging me for a long time now, and I'm finally fed up with the email alerts.
My wife has a VPN client for her work, on her laptop. It is nothing fancy, normal IPSec VPN, details on it I can get if needed, but it's just VPN.
My WRVS4400N is running 1.1.03 firmware, latest on the site. I have all VPN pass-throughs enabled. VPN connectivity for the wife works great, no problems that I'm aware of for her functionally.
The problem is, that I have logging turned on with email alerts. When my wife uses her VPN connection, I get flooded with alerts from the router with all sorts of goobly goo information. It's almost like there is a bug in the router firmware that is parsing information incorrectly.
Log levels are set to 0,1,2,3. Email alerts enabled. DoS threshold is 50, Log Queue is 100, Log Time is 60. SMTP information for my mail server populated of course, and Local Log enabled.
Below is a sample of the email body that gets sent. My wife has been using her VPN connection for about 3 hours tonight, and already I've been flooded with over 1000 emails.

Of course, I can turn off email alerts, but then that defeats the purpose of the router being able to tell me when something is awry.

E65 - Unsupported content type

On my new E65 I downloaded the correct connection settings and tested WAP access with no problems (and I already have WAP access through my provider). Then I setup WLAN access on my local network and surfed the web with no problems. But now when I try to access WAP sites I get an error "Web: Unsupported connection type". WLAN still works fine.
I have set the phone up to ask which Access Point to use (my provider's WAP, or available WLAN, etc), but I assume the problem must be that the phone is trying to access WAP over WLAN or WLAN over WAP or something? What settings do I need t change or is this a bug?

Nevermind - I discovered that WAP sites will only run on the Services browser that can be found under Menu -> Media -> Services. The Web browser only shows standard internet sites.

Ovi Suite 3 and Outlook synchronization with E65

With the last version of Ovi suite 2 I was able to synchronize both contact and calendar with my Outlook. After installing Ovi Suite 3 I'm able to Synchronyze only contacts but not the calendar. The Option to synchronize the calendar is not available in "Synchronization Options".

Can someone help me? Calendar Synchronization is foundamental for my work.

to anyone who reads this, please excuse my lack of politeness and patience for this issue. it is simply unnacceptable for this bug to occur, since it renders the IDE completely useless, along with the hours of work spent on development.
i am using VWP. there is a single page that simply reads data from a couple tables in a database and displays the results based on a parameter in the URL.
it's all very nice until the IDE removes the datasource references in the web.xml and sun-web.xml.
this bug has had several posts already and the same reply about fixing the bug gets posted. these kinds of bugs are completely unnacceptable after all this time.
like i said, excuse my rudeness, but i am very fed up with all the issues ive had with VWP and JSCU2.
we originally started using JSCU2 to replace an application developed in JSP. we worked for a few months with it and encountered so many issues that we decided to give VWP a try, since most people seemed to have more success with it. so much for that!
this is my company's last attempt to develop and deploy an application using Sun's visual web development tools. starting to think that i should've taken the advice of my peers and moved to microsoft's ASP.NET from the very beginning. even if we had to write the code all over again in VB or C# it would've taken us a lot less time and money than trying to figure what can actually be done with Sun's tools that do not cause problems.
seems like i have to think twice before adding anything to a page in VWP or JSCU2 because of "i don't know how the IDE will react, might have a bug"
i had a lot of confidence in Sun and their new tools, all i vain.
could someone PLEASE suggest a mechanism to work around this auto deletion of web.xml data source references???? (also, the IDE removes all line breaks from the web.xml file, putting all elements into a single line, rendering it unreadable and very hard to edit.

That's an interesting bug. I never had the issue you have described here. May be our environment is different than what you have. Can you please share any links/sites where this bug has been posted before. I like to check this out. Because in our place I was using JSC2 and now Netbeans for our product development. Since this is tool related issue, you can always get the comercial tool such as JBuilder, Exadel plugins, etc. where also not guranteed the problem is not there but you may get better support because you are paying for it. Moving to ASP.Net is the other choice you mentioned, I have experince with MS-Studio getting corrupted file also. But you may be better of with MS-Visual Studio (VB,C#) if your project is just one page application.

Delete e-mail accounts on E65 and 6280

I am about to sell my phones but I can't delete the e-mail accounts. I have read all possible manuals and guidelines but I can't find any instructions how to remove an old e-mail account.
On my E65 and I can blank out all fields but not delete och reset the entire account. Also the subject line on deleted mails are not possible to remove.
On my 6280 I have a bug so I can't use down arrow when I have th e-mail program running.... That causes me to not be able to blank out the account information. I have tried the factory reset but that does not reset e-mail account.
Can any one help me to remove the accounts or in some way reset the entire phone so all personal information is removed?
I can't sell the phone when it contains settings to a important mail account!

On the E65 - *#7370# performs a reset which will wipe all data and put the phone back to basic configuration.
I am not sure if this will work on the other handset - give it a try.
