E7-00 Anna: Backup messing up e-mail widgets

Gentlemen,
I have noticed some weird behaviour since the beginning of the E7, all 3 FW versions:
1st home screen has one e-mail widget with my main business account
2nd home screen has three e-mail widgets with my main business account, another account and Gmail
Every time I make a backup either via Ovi suite or USB OTG it moves the Gmail widget from the 2nd home screen to the 1st home screen replacing the one there AND the original Gmail widget slot turns into New email account link where you can start setting up your account.
Anyone experienced anything like it before?
Since 1610

@minumant
Admittedly this is upon N8 a similar device but as you don't mention Incoming and Outgoing Mail Settings perhaps it is different upon your E7:

  • If I upgrade to 10.5.2 is it going to mess up my mail

At the moment my mail server seems to be working well with my primary and virtual domains. Being I have it setup with the WGM and Postfix files because virtual users is broken in the current version, if I update to 10.5.2, is that going to mess up my mail system? Will I need to change things after the update or do things differently? Any info would be great. I just don't want to update something and then find out I have a lot of work to do after the update.

You're running a server, and you're asking good questions.
Downtime can be painful, as you've almost certainly learned.
But as for your question, I'm not certain there's anything I'd accept as proof other than a local test. Environments can and do differ, and triggers can be subtle. Your upgrade mileage may vary, after all, depending on many factors.
If you don't have a "scratch" environment where you can prototype the upgrade, make a backup before the upgrade (to allow you a path back), then perform the upgrade and test it. Then (once you're satisfied) turn the users loose on the box.
And even with a scratch environment, I'd still suggest the backup be made.
If you're running critical operations, you may well want a second (or more) mail server around. This for upgrades, and as a fallback should an upgrade stuff something up. (Past outages can often be used as justification for the added hardware and licenses for testing future upgrades -- which is probably the wrong way 'round -- but that's how some organizations work.)
I do know that 10.5.2 "sat on" at least one iCal library on a Mac OS X client. As for what else might have gone off the rails, I haven't seen anything (else) yet, but I've not worked my way up to a server upgrade yet. I usually try several client upgrades first.

  • Password Protect my mail widget and sms messages

Hi, I am sure you have been asked this plenty of times, there are times when I loan my iphone to say a friend to make a call but I don't want him to open my email and read my messages is there a way to password protect my mail widget and if so how.

Sorry, no. You can only password protect the whole phone.

  • Multiple mail widgets on N97 initial screen

I have various e-mail accounts I want to monitor separately so I created the email accounts on the mail programm. The problem is that in the initial screen I can not add more than 1 email notification widget.
Is it possible to force the widget to monitor more than one account?, or add 2 or more mail widgets?

The phone will “real time” monitor two email accounts for you in terms of notifying you when you have new messages. I don’t believe it’s possible to have more than one email widget. However, I downloaded and use the Nokia Messaging program for my email accounts. In this way, I can have one account on screen, but if I open the widget, in the top left corner of the screen of the current inbox you will see an envelope icon. When you press on the envelope it will show your other email accounts (which you set up through Nokia Messaging) which you can press on and thus switch to. http://email.nokia.com/account/home.action Hope that helps.

  • Mail widget changed and not opning nokia 701

i did hard reset bt after dat mail widget turnd into freestylemail and nt opning and fp1 upda e nt available fp2 is der bt dnt wanna to update dat ..help

    @kushalshah009
You can't pick or choose whether to install Belle FP1 or Belle FP2 and be aware that if you carry out three key depressed power on "hard reset" as well as deleting user content from both C:\ and E:\ it can also remove some essential files necessitating visit to Nokia Care facility to re-install.

  • Nokia C7 - dead pixel on E-mail widget?

I do not know whether you have noticed that or not, but it seems to me like there is a dead pixel on Nokia E-mail widget ... Is it only my C7 that has this issue? Has anyone else noticed anything similar?
If you want to thank someone, just click on the blue star at the bottom of their post
    Solved!

Can you post a screen shot of it. I've noticed something similar to what you've mentioned with Nokia's midnight themes, looks like a theme issue and not dead pixel. I've attached screen shot of that from my E7 see if that is what you're seeing on your phone.

  • Restoring messages from backup-can "add" to mail but can't "add" to .Mac

    Hello!
I posted this post in the .Mac email forum, but a fellow user suggested putting it here too, since it does seem to be a leopard-mail problem. Any help is very much appreciated.
I had some problems on my MacBook (2.2 Ghz, 10.5.2, everything up to date), and ended up having my mail database go absolutely nuts - which was made worse when I accidentally forwarded my .Mac account to my IMAP Gmail account, so messages were being randomly duplicated between the servers. Furthermore, if I tried to delete an email, it would disappear from one, only to re-appear twice over as it was forwarded back and forth. (Sheesh!)
In any case, I ended up turning off forwarding in all accounts, then deleting everything in .Mac, via the web interface, since the mess was too much to deal with. I then copied my Mail folder (User>Library>Mail) from my old G4 to my MacBook Pro, since it had been synced JUST before the glitch. The G4 is running Tiger, and Mail in Leopard wouln't import the messages via the File>Import menu option. So, I replaced the Leopard mail folder - replaced the folder from the MBP with the one from the G4 - and it imported the messages. (It went through the "Welcome to the new OS X Mail, let's update your library" screen).
Here's the problem: if I simply click "Get mail" after "importing" the old G4 mail folder, all messages will automatically erase themselves since it's syncing with .Mac. I thought "sync" meant "merge", not overwrite! (It certainly did in the past). Should I make an "on my mac" folder to store a copy of the messages while it "syncs", I can copy them into the .Mac inbox - and it will send them to the .Mac server. Even so, the next time I click "get messages", they will disappear - even from the "on my mac" folder!
Can I get the messages back onto .Mac? How?

The format of the disk is a Mac format. but that is irrelevant in a NAS device, as long as it offers SMB.. ie windows file network format.. you don't have to worry in the least how the files are stored on the drive.
But you cannot partition a TC.. it is as it is..
I have some iOS devices in addition including an AppleTV. Could this TC serve them as well as the Windows XP Pro PCs without having a Mac in my inventory ? (No time Machine.)
What are you expecting to serve to the iOS devices.. they are completely dumb.. they don't even know what the file system is without an APP.. and there is no Apple Format apps only SMB.. which is kind of interesting.
They are designed to work with iTunes.. but the TC is not an iTunes server strangely as lots of non-Apple products manage to make their NAS into ITunes servers. You can place the iTunes library on the TC but we don't recommend it due to the TC having no automated way to back itself up.. again unlike every other NAS out there. You can manually backup the TC via the USB.. it is slow and can only backup the whole disk.. even if you backed up the whole disk yesterday.. it has no ability to do incremental rsync or any other intelligent backup.

  • N00b mess: Moving users without messing up E-mail from 10.5 box to 10.6 box

    Gentleones,
I have a 10.6 Xserve and a 10.5 PowerMac G5 DP from which I have migrated all of my users and their E-mail. Or so I thought.
While I did indeed successfully move the mail from the old machine to the new one, when I installed 10.6 on the new box, I chose to import users to the new machine. What it did and what I thought it would do are two different things.
What I thought it would do is move the users from the old machine to the new one, creating a new "LDAPv3/192.168.1.4" directory.
What it did is merely point the new machine at the old one so that they both have to be on. My new machine, 192.168.1.4, has a directory named "LDAPv3/192.168.1.3" and, yes, if I turn 192.168.1.3 off, 192.168.1.4 can't do jack. Users can't get E-mail, etc. Authentication fails all the way 'round, 'cept for the admin user in the Local directory, of course.
*So what I'd like to do is move my users from the old machine to the new one, but I certainly don't want to do it in such a way that Dovecot loses track of whose mail is what and that their E-mail is lost.*
I have contemplated the problem a bit and think that:
1 - Manually creating the accounts (small number of them, so not too hard) would likely destroy the linkage to the E-mail. I would think that creating a new user of the same name in a LDAPv3/127.0.0.1 directory would have different whatever-it-is that Dovecot uses to link up the E-mail.
2 - "Backup and import" (as suggested by a dialog box, but which I can't figure out how to do anyway... there IS no "Backup" command that I'm aware of) might work but, as the previous parenthetical suggests, I can't figure out how to do it anyway.
3 - "Export" and "Import" might work, except that when I tried to do that the first time I did the 10.6 install (I've done test installations several times over the past few weeks) made a mess of things and there was an Address Book error that kept popping up in the logs to which nobody has found a solution.
    Sigh.
    Help?
    Thanks,
    Bill

  • How do I backup my emails in Mail Mountain Lion?

Am running an IMAP email from my website webmail (hosted at oneandone.com) to Mail on my iMac and am now running out of space on my webmail and so won't be able to receive any new emails when my space runs out.  As the email system is IMAP, if I delete mail from my webmail to free up space, I'll also delete the same emails from my Mail on my iMac.
I want to have a backup of these emails on my iMac so I can refer back to them easily.
If I export the IMAP mailbox before I delete the mail of the webmail, I'll have a backup but it doesn't appear to be easy to browse this backup and find emails for reference.
Is there some way I can create a backup of my emails locally, on my iMac, so that I can then delete them from my webmail and free up space but still be able to access and read these emails easily?
I was thinking about somehow creating a Mailbox on my iMac that is local to my iMac and not connected to the IMAP server at the webmail which I'd call something like "Old Emails up to 10th Dec 2012" where all these IMAP emails are stored and then deleting these emails from the IMAP server, thereby freeing up space.  Is this even possible?  If so, how do I do this???
    Thanks guys!!!

  • Mac os 10.5.7 update messed up my mail. cant see message viewer!!!

after updating Mac os 10.5.7, I cannot see the message viewer. When i checked the connection doctor it shows that my email ids are online. I tried moving messagerules.plist and messagerules.plist.backup to desktop. Still no joy. Please help

Incompatible mail plugins in your /Library/Mail/Bundles directory? Remove anything from there and restart mail. It's very likely an incompatible mail plug-in.

  • Icloud is really messing up my mail? anyone else

this morning my mac mail has been broken all day.... i checked with comcast, and att... and tryed to call apple... but they wanted 49 bucks... but eventually att put me thru to a tech.... apparently this has been a real problem today for about 1.2 percent of icloud users.... it has really messed me up as i have a home business..... anyone else?

Same problem here -- worst e-mail outage I've experienced in ages, and going on far too long to be excusable as a simple server issue. No point calling Apple, such a widespread outage is already on their radar and it's already common knowledge that they have screwed up. Making noise is not the worst approach in this kind of situation (denied service by a giant corporation that's unresponsive to your woes), so just complain far and wide until Apple (finally) gets their act together.

  • I have messed up iCloud mail setting when trying to fix a yahoo issue. I need the settings to send mail from iCloud

Can someone please send me step by step what to set my icloud outgoing mail setting to. It continues to say that the server is no longer connected. I tried adding an outgoing mail server as smtp.mail.me.com and it won't connect. I messed it up when I played around with settings due to Yahoo not working this morning. Yahoo is now working and icloud is not. Thanks for your help.

These are the manual settings: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864, but if you are signed into iCloud on your Mac it should automatically contigure your iCloud email account with the correct settings.  If it isn't working, go to Settings>iCloud, uncheck Mail, restart your Mac, then check Mail again.  That will remove, then recreate your iCloud email account.

  • Synching iPod Touch with iTunes latest versions messes up e-mail progams on the Touch; help

Twice now in the past week I have synched my 64GB latest model  iPod Touch with the latest version of iTunes and it has completely messed up my e-mail programs on the Touch; I cannot get or send e-mails.    I have to delete the e-mail accounts and then add them back in so that I can receive and send e-mails.  What has caused this and how can I eliminate this from happening in the future when I sync?  Thank you for your help.
    carol

Yes, I find it strange, too but it has happened both times I have synched the Touch in the past week.  iTunes was updated right before the first time this happened.     I have Verizon for my e-mail and it would not work on the Touch  but I was able to send and receive emails on my desk top.   It is frustrating to say the least to spend time deleting and then adding the e-mail accounts to the Touch.

  • Firefox 6 messed up Smarter Mail

How do I downgrade back to firefox 5- Smarter Mail (my crappy email client) was not ready for the switch to 6 and it has caused all sorts of problems.

Just download the setup of FF 5.x and install it:
    ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/5.0.1/
I had many problems with FF6 and multiple tabs.
SmarterMail has confirmed a problem with FF6:
