E7-00 offline navigation

My Nokia E7-00 refuses to start navigating - or even to find its current position on the map that has already been loaded to its memory - unless a data connection is available. It just keeps complaining about the missing connection. Excluding some millionaires, the rest of us simply cannot afford to turn data on when roaming - and that's when you need the navigation most! I was just reprimanded by my boss for the mistake of turning data on while on a business trip in the United States, when I desperately needed to know where I was, because it resulted in a humongous phone bill.
Is there any way to configure E7-00 so that it would use offline navigation where a data connection isn't available, and online navigation if a data connection is available? In my opinion, this should be the default configuration.

Presumably you are using Symbian Belle or Refresh upon your E7-00 so go to Menu > Settings > Application settings > Positioning > Find my location > Positioning methods - you can tap upon "Assisted GPS" and "tick" will disappear. If data connection disabled Assisted GPS positioning method can't reach positioning server to speed up location acquisition, so it can take considerably longer to acquire position if say you get off aeroplane in a different part of the US which could be 20 - 30 minutes outside away from tall buildings.
If you located inside a building it is the WiFi/Network positioning method which gives you a rapid positional fix as geolocation of router has been previously determined.

  • Offline Navigation not working

If my Nokia N9 is offline due to lack of coverage or in flight mode, the Drive nor the Maps Application can't find a route to a selected place. I have downloaded the maps, I even can find the address on the maps. But when I try to let N9 navigate to this location, it shows a message, with tells me, the device isn't able to route a way while it's offline.
If I haven't any network or the device is in flight mode, I can't use the N9 for navigation. Moreover, when I'm abroad I have to pay hefty roaming fees.
My previous devices with Symbian (E71, E72, E6-00 and E7-00) where able to route its way without any network traffic!
Can anyone confirm this behavior and is there a solution to this or will this problem be addressed in an update (PR1.1, etc.)?

if you go to "Settings" > Device > GPS & positioning - do you have the same settings as screenshot?

  • Offline navigation lumia 800

when i use my lumia 800 GPS to travel, is their a way to save the journey on the phone so that next time i dont have to replan the same route. also can i make a trip using via points?
    thanks

It is currently possible only to save a location which can be reused as a destination but not possible to save journeys and waypoints.
At the moment Nokia Drive for the WP phones are not quite on par with Nokia Drive for the Symbian and Meego phones yet but it is slowly but surely getting there.

  • Nokia Maps Problem, holes in the offline map

    Hello
I habe a Nokia N9, updated to the newest Firmware (including the apps)
I downloaded offline maps for danmark and for austria but parts of the map are missing
(see attachment for DK, in the first picture you see the route from Aalborg to Hamburg (Germany)
there is a nice Highway but in the center parts of the map is missing so it routes me around it !!!!!!!
If you zoom for more details (picture 2) you see that a part is simple missing!!!
    The same is for austria!!
I downloaded the maps several times, always with the same result...
    somebody know whats going on?

    @nobs
Presumably you have tried both using Maploader upon N9 and Nokia Suite? When new mapping was released 17/12/2012 just followed advice to update existing ones, although do remember it timing out and have to re-start downloading process several times.
As map folder structure upon N9 remains the same as Symbian it would be possible to manually install decompressed .zip for particular region if all else fails. Whilst not aware of any problems with latest 00.02.47.103 map data upon N9, be aware that this update has caused issues for Symbian devices by crippling "Offline" navigation.

  • Offline Reports in BW

    Hi Gurus,
In Our company we have implemented SAP BW 7.0 SP 19. We have reports in BEx Analyzer and Bex Web Analyzer but in the company need something additional "Offline navigational Reports".
In other words the users wants to execute the reports in their houses as they be in the company.
Are there a way or technology to do this. Something that allow to download the data and allow to user navigate in a report offline???
    thanks a lot
    Jose

    Jose,
Offline reporting not possible in BW.
Downloading and doing analysis in spread sheets may leads to lots of mistakes and creates confusion. Not a good idea.
For some static reports, without navigation, using information broadcasting reports can be distribute to mail id  as a pdf.

  • Still the same bugs?! (Ovi Maps, N8)

    Hi!
I'm using Ovi maps lately quite a lot but I have some problems with this software, especially with the usability. When searching the net for bugfixes/help I found an older bug report on Nokia BetaLabs: http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/ovi-maps-for-mobile-v3-06/bugreport/23781/top-10-bugs-in-ovi-maps-v-3... and my problems are still the same but Ovi Suite says that I have the latest version (v3.06, Map version 0.2.42.122 on N8-00)
    My problems are:
1.) When searching for an accurate address (Street name, No., ZIP, City name) there is no hit for offline navigation, Ovi maps needs an online search. If I leave the house number out the offline navigation finds the street - Why aren't there the house numbers stored for offline navigation? There is mostly no sense in only finding a street but not the accurate address. As long as I only use the navigation inland that isn't a big problem as I have internet connection included in my phone rate - but it's a problem abroad because of high roaming rates ...
2.) So I have always internet connection on Ovi maps - problem is that sometimes when the UMTS-connection is lost (e.g.. in tunnels) there is a pop-up if I want Ovi maps to connect to the internet. If I choose "Yes" there is some seconds later a new pop-up where I need to choose the connection - That's very annoying! I can't find a setting like "always allow Ovi maps to connect to the internet". There is only a setting if I only want offline navigation (which doesn't work, see 1.).
3.) If there is more than one result I can't figure out what is the difference between the results (except the distance) because the exact address isn't scrolling and the results are only like "Country, State, ...." - I don't see the differences because there is only "...".
4.) I can't scroll through the map once the navigation has started. There is only this mode where I can scroll threw the turns/junctions. Sometimes I like to see where the navigation takes me before I start driving, that is hardly possible without a 'free-map-scroll-mode'.
One last point is the search-process: It is more comfortable to have a step-by-step search for the destination like all major satnavs have (TomTom, Garmin, ...) and bigger on-screen-keyboard because with this tiny letters it is quite impossible to add/change the address while driving.

AUTxRemoteC wrote:Now to the points from my first post:
1.) I've downloaded the maps via Ovi Suite on my mobile. Internet connection is only used for the search, but not everytime, it's only some kB but abroad some kB could be very expensive ;-)
2.) Thanks for this hint but everything was/is configured right as you said. This is more or less a general problem of my phone, maybe it has also something to do with my provider. Not only Maps asks regularly for the connection to use, other applications like the AR-Apps Wikitude and LiveView (from BetaLabs) but also some games are doing the same.
    1. Maybe I misunderstand your question but I have no problem with searches right down to numbers in streets with the phone offline i.e the country, town, street, street number is found and the cursor sits over that exact address on the map. Perhaps it is a problem with your country's maps? In the countries I use the geo data is readily available right down to the individually surveyed plots of land in towns and cities (and hence to numbers in streets).
I often find it quicker to do a search for the country first if it is another country you are searching for the address in, then do the city, street number and name search.
    2. I suspect that you have not barred such connections somewhere in the set up of your phone generally or else for for some app, or perhaps, as you have games, etc loaded, one or more of them insists on "phoning home" as some do and as they have opened a connection Maps asks to use it.
That with Maps 3.08 on an N8 but I do not recall any problems on earlier versions either.

  • Having problems with find my iphone map

The basic map appears and but you cannot zoom in or out or change it hybrid or satellite map.  The three buttons bottom right corner are now a bright green.  I am using windows 8 and tried it on both explorer and google chrome.  It used to work great up until about two weeks ago.  Anyone know why this is happening on icloud.com?

I usually use wifi when I am at home or even out. If I cannot track where my iPhone is, then what use of Find My iPhone invented for? And also the built in Assisted GPS function for the only uses of offline navigation and location service ONLY when with Internet access. Unlike the other phones such as GalaxySII, it can be real-time tracked. Although Apple has many restrictions, but it should improve the safety services.
iPhone or iPad, with or without cellular data or even wifi sometimes, is always full with fun and functionable. I can deal with my works with many useful apps such as quick office, pages etc. When I am bored, oops, I'm sorry, I won't be bored - I can spend my time with a thousand types of games or watching a series of movies/ dramas downloaded. With iDevices, I will not be living in a dull and meaningless world.

Does anyone have problems connecting with VZnavigator?

IDK how often that app is really updated with bug fixes or maps, but HERE maps is free and uses no data for offline navigation and Google Maps is really good, but it doesnt have offline navigation.  I personally use HERE Maps.

  • Maps on N8 headset problem

I have 3 Nokia headsets, BH 212, 217 and 609 none of which work with the Maps app on my N8 and directions are only heard through the handset. In all other ways they work fine. However they all work with my N97 mini. Both handsets have v3.06 Maps. I have rebooted my N8, also reinstalled the phone software with Ovi Suite and reset to factory settings none of which has made any difference. Any ideas anyone?

This query is better anwered when put up at Ovi services board, anyway I'll answer. For offline navigation in Ovi maps you need to download the map data of that particular place, you can use Ovi suite to download maps of various countries. The phone is looking for position because it hasn't got any information about that place.
If a reply has solved your problem click Accept as solution button, doing it will help others know the solution. Thanks.

  • Gps and nokia drive

Hi, i have the new Nokia lumia why is necessary to have data connection to use Nokia drive? I this phone have a god why doesn't work with it. I had a Nokia x6 and Nokia maps it worked perfectly.could you make that Nokia drive works only with god and no with data transfer?
    Thanks

With the Lumia 800, even though you can pre-download map data, you can only search online for the moment. I am told this is still work in progress and full offline navigation should be available soon in future updates.

  • Playbook: Good Hardware, but Applications are rubbish

    Hi all,
after two days of use, i must say i'm very dissapointed about the playbook. Screen, interface is all very nice, but the software side. I don't have real business requirements like other users around here, but i wanted to use it for  -from my point of view- very basic things. But, browsing the app store makes me feel like BB want to kid me.
The "Tablet for professionals" doesn't even have a simple english - german (or other language) dictionary. Thats pretty standard - the apps (e.g. SlovoEd) are available for other devices.
There is GPS built in, the screen is quite big, so it would be good to use it as a satnav for driving the car. But, to do so you must be always online (and btw loading maps while driving does not really work - even if theres good cell phone coverage) and you would only see the map. If you rely on Satnav in a foreign area, offline maps are mandatory. What about a normal Satnav application like Garmin Mobile XT, TomTom or similar?
Simple Internet Radio App where you can add your own streams ? That cannot be so hard ... ! Oh, yes there are apps available: They force me to pay money (which is not the real problem - i just don't want to pay for things i don't want) and then i can choose predefined stations from a list ???? Thanks BB - please tell me what radio stations i have to listen to!
Built in Music Store is twice as expensive as Amazon ... ok, but Beemp3 works.
In general, most apps on the apps store are just rubbish. That is not the tablet for professionals software selection, that is like shopping in a 99 cent store.
Did I expect too much? Does anyone know a good app for (offline-) Navigation, (offline-) Dictionary and Internet radio?
    Thansk - Raf

And your point is? Yes it is a work in progress. Just lime the other tablets the apps will be developed. Once OS2 is released you will be able to use andriod apps ported over. there will be even more useless apps to complain anout.
