E7 Dead -- Is it the battery, the device? Voltage...

Hi, I caught my E7 dead on saturday. Nothing special before, it should have been charged, maybe I left the GPS on so the battery could have been empty. "No worries", I thought, plugged it into my car charger, waited a couple of seconds (unfortunately I was not very patient) and tried to switch it on. No success, Lots of button pressing, all combinations (8+ sec power, 8+ sec menu). Nothing. At home, I plugged it into my normal charger (original Nokia). White LED flashing, but no other signs of life. Even flashing stopped at some point of time. When connected to the PC, my PC does not recognize the phone. Now I opened the device and removed the battery. It had only 3 Volt left. Plugged in the charger again. It quickly filled to 3,47V, but that's it. Now I do understand that the device won't operate with such a low voltage. What I don't understand is that the voltage does not go up, not even when the charger is plugged in and the white LED is flashing. I think Li-Ion batteries are charged at over 4 V, so this is the voltage I expect at the battery during charging, even when the battery is out of order. Before the sudden death, the battery seemed to be ok; three days was normal lifetime (no Internet, no Bluetooth, no GPS, just phone on and few calls). Should I order a new battery? Or do I need a new E7? Since the battery is much cheaper and the E7 setup should not be necessary, I would prefer the battery. Any chance that this will solve it? The charger is probably not to blame, as the same happens on the car charger, The micro-USB also seems to work, as some charging is going on and the LED is flashing Martin

As we are prohibited from discussing disassembly of devices upon this manufacturer's sponsored forum, I shall have to choose my words carefully. You are correct in that I would expect battery whilst in device to show about 4.12 V whilst charging and the only thing that concerns me is that E7-00 has a poor record in this respect as in this thread: http://discussions.nokia.com/t5/Eseries-and-Communicators/E7-won-t-charge-Help/td-p/947209
As you have ability to charge a spare battery, it would seem cost effective to go down this route before writing the device off!

  • Is there any way I can get my lost iPhone online with iCloud. The device is either off or out of battery.

lost my iphone. downloaded "find my iphone" to the phone from my mac using icloud. I was wondering if there is a way to turn the phone online from my computer. Since I don't have the phone, I can't set up the locator app to appear online.

If you did not activate Find My iPhone on the device when you had it, you will not be able to track it. The Find My iPhone app has nothing to do with it. That is only for trying to track another iOS device with it. Log into www.icloud.com and if you cannot see the device, you did not have Find My iPhone activated. If you see the device, but it says offline, then it could either be powered off or the battery dead. There is nothing that you can do without the phone in your hand about activation. Did you have a passcode on the device? Did you send a lost/wipe command? Do you have iOS 7 on the device. If you had iOS 7, then the phone cannot be restored and activated without your Apple ID and password. The device would be worthless to the thief. Change all of your passwords for accounts that you had on the phone.

When my Ipod touch is in autolock I can only restart the device holding the sleep/wake button and home button at the same time for 10 seconds.  While in auto-lock it is using battery power and will do so until the battery is drained.  Whats wrong?

    - Try a reset. Nothing is lost:
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
    - Connect the iPod to your computer and try to restore via iTunes. Try placing in Recovery mode if necessary to restore.
    - If you can't turn the iPod completely off, let the batter fully drain. After charging for at lerast anhour try again
    - If still not successful time for an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

    Error 1604
This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.
    Error 1600, 1601, 1602
Follow the steps listed above for Error 1604. This error may also be resolved by disabling, deactivating, or uninstalling third-party security, antivirus, and firewall software. See steps in this article for details on troubleshooting security software.

  • My battery life between charges on my ipad 1 has plummeted to about 2 hours.  The guy at the genius bar suggested it might be an app (unfortunately I didn't have the device with me).  Does anyone know of apps that cause heavy drains on power?  Thanks!

The battery life between charges on my iPad has plummeted to about 2 hours.  The guy at the genius bar said the charge should last about 10 hours and suggested it might be an app (unfortunately I didn't have the device with me and the nearest Apple Store to me is 2 hours away).  Does anyone know of apps that cause heavy drains on power?  It also does not charge when it is plugged into my MacBook while I am using the iPad but it does when I am not using the iPad.  I mostly use the iPad to read e-mails, play Team Lava games, read books through iBooks or Kobo and the ABC Player.  Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks!

Restore is about the only option left, short reinstalling the whole thing as new.
Before you restore, go to I tunes and turn off automatic sync.  Then plug the machine in.  Upload any photos that you have taken with the pad into I photos, or where ever you keep your pictures.  Then, in I tunes, transfer any purchases.
If any apps or purchased music get lost in the process, you can download them again for free.
You do not want to make a backup of what you have on the pad now. If you do, when you restore, you will simply recreate the same problem.
What you want to do is restore from a prior backup.  Do that.
Then run the system status app and see what the CPU numbers look like.  If they are ok, then you can start to re add apps until the problem shows up.
If this does not do it, then the last step is to set the pad up as new.  Check the numbers, then add the apps and settings back one by one.    While it is likely to be an app, it may be a setting somewhere.

Have you tried unpairing the remote? You do this by pointing your remote at the Apple TV and holding the MENU and Left buttons down together for 6 seconds.

  • Does find my iPhone work if the device is dead?

Just like the title does Find My IPhone work when the device your looking for is dead?
    Thank you

No.  The phone must be turned on, obviously.

I'm currently living in The Hague, there is no Apple Store in this city, took an appointment in Amsterdam, after 3 hours drive and 60€ travel cost got into the Apple Store, 73 minutes delay on my appointment the Genius  tech tells me I should leave my device for further checks in the store and come back in a week or two. Not presicely the answer I was looking for, plus he did not have any device to lend me until my iPhone was checked. Quite dissapointed, Apple was standard for quality on customer satisfaction, in the last 10 years I bought 3 MacBooks, 5 iPdas, 7 iPods, 5 iPhones and 2 iMACs... please don't let me down. Dear Ocean, one is a complaint about the quality of the device.
The second about the quality on response from Customer Service.
No worries, I'll delete both post since it seems that won't bring anything productive.
    Good bye Apple!

Maybe the Nano you got is defective. Have it replaced.

  • Since I upgraded to iOS 7.0.4 on my iPad 3, battery capacity has drained almost 10%/hour without any use of the device. Prior to the upgrade, the battery charge would hold during periods of inactivity. What can I do to solve this significant problem?

Since I upgraded to iOS 7.0.4 on my iPad 3, my battery capacity has drained almost 10% per hour without any use of the device. Prior to the upgrade, the battery charge would hold during periods of inactivity. What can I do to solve this significant problem? Is there a way to uninstall iOS 7.0.4 and return to the previous version?

    Downgrading isn't supported.
You can poke around in the settings. There's a lot of stuff defaulted to on that you may not need, such as notifications.
You can also look into background app refresh and background app updates. They can be running in the background and drain your battery.

  • IPad 3 was ok charged it and now its dead. How do you reset the device?

My iPad is dead. Holding the home button doesn't start the device. It was ok about 4 hours ago and I then put it on charge. Now it appears dead. Is there a way to reset it?
    Thanks in advance.

Have you tried a reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds after which the Apple logo will hopefully appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

I started to do a backup on my iphone 5s following a notice the device gave. but it was unsuccessful and in the first use of my iphone I saw my iphone battery drains drastically. I had upgraded the software to ios 7.1. what should i do now? is this a problem with the battery?

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

I  am using 2 unit provided AC charger to charge my iPad mini. After a while, I checked the device. The battery is no longer in charge mode. It is only 80% charged. When I touch the AC charger, it is hot. I need to switch off the AC charger to let it cool down before continue to charge my iPad mini again. Of course it will be 100% charge but must make sure the AC charger is cool down completely.
I feel that the provided AC charger that is not suitable for our charging on iPad mini.

I would book an appointment at an Apple Store, if you have one nearby, to have it looked at.

  • I am unable to tell when the battery is completely charged.  I have showing the battery symbol with the bolt-this is present even when the device is not being charged.  And it is always showing 2% charge.

ios7 installed on iphone 5 and then the device swtich off when battery is 10%  and never start till power source connected ..

I have the same issue with the following setup:
    Garmin 2597LMT
    iPhone 5
    Motorola T605 bluetooth hardsfree system
I ended up disabling the nuvi bluetooth -- I don't subscribe to any smartlink services -- so I'll guess i'll go without Weather on the nuvi for now.
