E7 - No status updated in contact book with Social...

Hi,
I have noticed a new functionality in the Beta of Social 1.3 where status updates are shown in the contact book respectively. This worked once and stopped ever since. I installed the most current release from the Ovi store (post-beta as of June), but I can't get status updates to the contacts in my contact book. I have mapped the contacts in Social 1.3, as appearently indicated by the icon that looks like a contact book with a little chain piece. But no success yet. Is there a trick to get this to work?

If your contacts were synced to your Mac, then yes they will have been written to it's hard drive at some point. Whether data recovery software can recover your contacts or not is another question and one that can't be answered because there is no guarantees with data recovery as to what can be recovered.

I upgraded to ICS few days back and I'm liking it. But there is this problem that even after syncing my facebook account, I dont get the option of showing status updates in contacts. That option is grayed out. Any solution?

settings > app > all >facebook > clear data
Turn on wifi
Go to settings > account and sync > turn it on
Add account > add facebook (Add facebook and use it for a minute) and facebook inside Xperia as well
wait for atleast 5 minutes and let the contacts sync
Now go to contacts > settings > select show status updates > all
Now-
you have to sync atleast for 4-5 minutes,, both "facebook" and "facebook inside xperia"
even make sure you log in into facebook and even select "sync" option that it shows at startup and use facebook for one minute

Make a backup of your computer first before doing any updates. In rare but unfortunate cases an update seems to result (from what the people posting here say) in libraries being deleted. Then too, sometimes people update and discover they really don't like the new version. Downgrading without a backup is difficult. In the long run you can't avoid going to a newer version but I, for example, have been running the same iTunes version for 7 years now so it is possible to hang on.
You also don't provide details about your MacBook which includes many models. If you are truly old school you could even be running a MacBook that can't update to the newest, or at least may require other software or hardware upgrades. Get more information about your computer. Go to the Apple in the upper left corner of any window, then "About This Mac". Write down what it says about "version"and report that here. Now continue to "More Info..." Copy and paste the information here, but omit the serial number and Hardware UUID (if present).

Script to Update SL Address Book with Lion Address Book?

The only thing stopping me from switching from mobileme to icloud is my wife's imac, which is a little too old for Lion. I have seen workarounds to sync calendars and mail, but not address books, via icloud. Since it should be possible to export an address book from the Lion box and import it to the Snow Leopard box, perhaps that could be done automatically, once a day, using a script of some kind over my home network. What would such a script look like?
Any other ideas for periodically replacing/updating the address book on my wife's SL mac with the address book on my Lion mac(s)?

The database probably won't do you any good: trying to replace it automatically is likely to fail as it's already in use.That at least was what I found.
You could export the entire contacts list as a vCard, and import it into the other address book, though you would of course need to delete the entire list there first in order to prevent duplications.

Update iPhone contacts Photos with Facebook

Hello all. Maybe I'm just missing something, but here's what I want to do. I do not want to sync my facebook contacts onto my iPhone, that's far too many contacts I don't need. Instead what I want to do is update the photos on my phone's contacts to their current facebook ones. Most of the ones right now are out dated, no longer current profile pictures. Any way for me to get the current ones? I've tried using the update contacts button, but it doesn't pull their new profile pictures.

Try uninstalling the facebook application and re installing the application. Make sure once you are setting the facebook application back up to choose the option sync with contacts.

When you log into iCloud with your browser, do you see your contacts online?
If yes, go to System Preferences > iCloud > toggle sync contacts on/off.
You might need to run the combo installer.

Apple updates available from the Software Update application are incremental updates. Delta updates are also incremental updates and are available from Apple Downloads (software updates are generally smaller than delta updates). The Combo updates contain all incremental updates and will update files that could have become corrupted.
Combo updaters will install on the same version as they're applying--no need to roll back or do a clean install. So if you think you've got a borked 10.8.4 install from a regular update, just run the 10.8.4 Combo Updater on that system.
"Delta" updaters can only take you from one version to the next. For example: 10.9.1 to 10.9.2. If somehow the 10.9.2 is missing something it should have, and that something isn't changed between 10.9.1 and 10.9.2 it will still be stale after the delta update.

BBM 5 status update failed when over 100 contacts

I have found BBM 5.0.0.33 and BBM 5.0.0.55 will not update your status if you have over than 100 contacts.
This has been tested a verified by many blackberry messenger users, with different phones, and different versions of the OS.
There is no solution and almost everything has been tried, from re-installing the OS, to re-adding contacts individually etc..
The only thing to do is to delete your contacts so as the total is below or equal to 100.
I am shocked and surprised that RIM has not acknowledged this problem, nor have they fixed this in the 0.55 release.
It seems to be a trivial problem, with a magic number of 100 contacts.
If RIM is trying to prevent the servers from overloading with status update info, at least increase the limit to 200 contacts, as most people will have less than 200 contacts, but a lot have over 100.
The magic number should be 200

The address book syncs via iCloud, not Bluetooth or iTunes.
You upgraded to Lion so you could use iCoud.
On the computer. go to Apple menu > System prefs > iCloud.
Sign into your iCloud account.
Tick everything.
This enalbes the se items syncing to iCloud.
On the iPad, Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
Create a new iCloud account.
Sign in with the same AppleID as your computer.
Settings > iCloud and turn everything on.
BAM!
That is all you need to do.
Your contacts (and all other checked items checked) will sync between computer and iPad.
No need to use iTunes

QuickBooks Pro7 Contact Synch with Address Book

I want to get QuickBooks Pro7 Customers to Contact Sync with Address Book.
(Currently, I can only get Contact Sync to work in Address Book for Vendors, where it correctly creates a new folder group with vendor contacts.)
I have updated all versions, corrected permissions, and tried the Apple Store Genius Bar.
Any ideas?

You can continue to use the current AppleID for iTunes, but your husband can create a new AppleID to use to create a new iCloud account that will be his own and not overlap with yours. If you do not have another email address to use for an AppleID, just get a free Gmail account and use that.
You can have as many AppleIDs as you want (or at least, as many as you have email addresses for). You can use a separate AppleID for the store, another for iCloud, and even another for iMessage if you wish.
You will want to keep the current one as the shared one for the store as all your previous purchases are permanently tied to it, and thus you need that AppleID to update or redownload your current purchased content.

My friend updated her iphone 4g with the iOS6 and lost all of her photos, contacts, messages, and music. She doesn't believe she had the icloud set up because after they restored her phone they asked for a new apple-id. I saved it anyway and when I go to the Exchange email account it says "Cannot Get Mail" "The connection to the server failed." We are running Microsoft Exchange 2010 and I was always able to sync my calendar and email before I upgraded to IOS 6.

Books are no longer supported with iPhoto '08 (a roughly six yeal old product) - you can purchase an iLife '09 DVD from someplace like Amazon or eBay and install it - iPhoto '09 is still supported this year
