E7 restarts seem to be caused by T-Mobile/Orange r...

So, I got my Blue E7 from Nokia Direct on Friday last week, on a T-Mobile contract.  As I got it set up as I liked I noticed that the phone would occasionally restart itself.  Initially I put this down to trying to do too much all at the same time, but it even started happening as I moved between rooms in the house when I wasn't doing anything at all, and also when I was driving and only using the satnav facilities.  In order to try and isolate the problem I tried reinstalling PR1.1 via Ovi Suite and then did full factory settings reset (wipe all), with the intention of only installing one piece of software at a time to isolate the problem, but it appeared almost straight away.
[as an aside, if you ever, press the menu key straight after booting it's quite interesting to see how many apps start (showing the little circle) and close immediately after boot - on S60 models you could see all these by holding down the menu key, but on Symbian^3 they don't show up in the "Open applications" screen]
I was lost for a solution, checked all settings, tried all sorts of other avenues and was beginning to think my phone might just be from a bad batch.  Then I thought that the connection between the situations might be related to the roaming arrangement between T-Mobile and Orange.  If you have *no* signal on the T-Mobile network then the SIM is allowed to roam onto the Orange network - note that it isn't seamless roaming like some other operators do (Three/Orange I think?) - it's the same roaming that you do when you go abroad - apparently seamless roaming may come later in the year.  Now in my house I have very patchy T-Mobile coverage, so if I move around the house it will often lose signal and try Orange instead, and the part of Devon I was driving around also has patchy T-Mobile reception, so the same would have been happening.
To test my theory, this morning I set the "Operator Selection" in "Network Settings" to "Manual" and chose T-Mobile as the operator, and so far I have had no further problems at all with the phone rebooting, so it looks like the roaming between networks cold well have been causing the problem.  I will give it a few more days to see if the rebooting has definitely stopped, and if it has then I will know for sure that the roaming was the issue.
To be honest, in the normal roaming situation it probably makes sense for the phone to reboot, but not if I am just moving around my house!  And if T-Mobile and Orange sort out the seamless roaming then I won't have a problem because the masts will do soft handovers between the two operators and my phone won't get upset.  For the moment I can stick to setting the manual network to T-Mobile (I would set it to Orange but then I would get no 3G) but it's annoying if I am out of network that the option to select a new operator always comes up when I press the home button.
If it turns out that the regular switches between T-Mobile and Orange were causing the reboots, does anyone know if I will be able to permanently opt out of the Orange roaming facility, so my SIM only tries to register on T-Mobile?  I read something online from last year about sending a text to 2121 but I can't find anything more recent.  I have contacted T-Mobile to ask the same question but have had no reply yet.
Hopefully this will help someone else with a similar problem, and if anyone else has experienced the same it would be great to know!

This is a very interesting theory ! I was on Vodafone when I recieved my E7 , so used a Virgin PAYG sim to try the E7 until I knew I was happy with it, but whilst running 2 phones, one on VF and the other on Virgin, I noticed the reception was MUCH better with Virgin both at home and at Work (which strangely enough , are the two places I use my phone the most !  ) so I decided to dump VF and go with Virgin instead for 3.5G instead of Edge. My point is AFAIK Virgin 'piggyback' on the Orange/T-Mobile agreement, and I didn't have the issue, despite working in an extremely bad reception area ? Don't know if the Virgin system works any differently, Oh and it's a brand new sim.
Very happy with the E7 and Virgin at the moment

    Synopsis
Problem: Endless Black Box "You Must Restart You Computer..." loop
Cause: Printing certain documents (so far one specific pdf file and a text file) through the wireless network at school initiates the problem and then all wireless networks perpetuate the problem thereafter
Steps Taken: Unplugged wireless network - this allows me to log in
-Warning box about fatal crash appears but "Send Report" does not produce any data
-Restarting wireless after login causes no problems
-Waking computer from sleep with wireless enabled causes black box to reappear
-Permissions repair did not resolve anything
-A complete reinstall solved everything until the other day when printing initiated the problem again, after having successfully printed numerous documents wirelessly over the past month
Other strange things my computer does:
-Makes very quite chirping sound with every key stroke (except arrows)
-Usually sits at the grey startup screen with the spinning wheel for a long time and then speeds through login process
-Only restarts successfully every second time after a hard-restart (the first time it just sits there spinning endlessly)
    More Details
Problem: Black box appears notifying me "You need to restart your computer" (Kernel panic I believe?) I restart my computer once, and it sits forever at the grey screen with the little wheel spinning. I hard-restart my computer a second time and it logs me in and then the black box reappears... and then the whole process starts over again..
Circumstances: I had this exact same problem occur about a month ago and it happened again under the exact same circumstances. I recently installed a Korean wireless router, some other foreigner had left behind, in my school here in Korea. The first time it happened I was trying to print PDF document wirelessly from my classroom and the black box appeared. Then the whole endless loop began...
That night I tried to fix the problem at home. I was able to log into safe mode but the endless loop persisted when I tried a normal log in normally again. I finally did a reinstall from my external drive using the most up to date image I had created with Carbon Copy Cloner.
The following day I went to school and couldn't resist trying to reprint the suspect document. My freshly installed computer crashed and I was ****** at myself for experimenting so early in the day. Then I tried unplugging the wireless router and restarting and it worked! Then I plugged the router back in and everything was running smoothly again.
Now I have a new problem. If my computer wakes from her sleep with the wireless enabled I get the black box both at school and at home. I'd really like to avoid doing another reinstall... please help!
    Thanks in advance!

    Hey Rich,
Think my computer healed herself while I was away this weekend
What I am wondering is if
a Safe Boot will always get you logged in when the
    other problems are occurring.
This question prompted me to try starting up in safe mode. I wanted to make sure the problem still persisted so I:
    1. Plugged in ethernet cable
    2. Turned on Airport
    3. Ensured WAN was functioning
    4. Shut Down my computer with just like I used to, with all network connections enabled
    5. Power ON -> Flawless start up, no black box!
    6. Put computer to sleep -> Woke up -> No black box!
    Weird eh?
So the only way I can answer your question is based on previous experience. Logging in using safe mode did work the three or four times I used it the first time this problem occurred.
I did nothing to my computer since this error, no updates, no permissions repairs and no sudo daily, weekly, monthly house keeping. When classes were finished Friday night, I came home, put my computer to sleep with Airport off and ethernet unplugged and the following morning I shut her down, hid her in my sock drawer, and left for the weekend!
My only explanation is that somehow reconnecting to the wireless network at school allowed my computer to resolve unresolved issue it was having with that network, the same network that instigated the problem. That's my best guess.
Thanks for taking the time to try and help me out with this issue. The clarification you sought definitely helped us get a more refined picture of the problem. I'm sure this issue will rear its ugly head again in the near future... that is, unless you or anyone else have some ideas about what I could do to prevent this from happening again.

    FU,
    Here's the info you wanted:
-Only restarts successfully every second time after a hard-restart (the first time it just sits there spinning endlessly)
This might indicate a dying backup battery (the one that keeps your PRAM healthy)
My PowerBook isn't even a year old yet, could it be that my battery has died this quickly? Hmmm, another thing I have experienced is that my Mac wont wake from sleeping if I have let the power get so low that she has been forced to sleep.
    1. "10 minutes of battery power remaining" box appears
    2. Battery depletes and computer enters sleep mode by default
    3. I go home and plug computer into power adaptor
    4. Computer fails to wake up no matter how long I wait -->power adaptor light does indicate the battery is charging
    5. I am forced to unplug my computer, remove the battery and hold down the power switch.
    6. Power on -> Date and time settings have changed and need to be set again
Does this sound like the symptom of a low backup battery?
make sure that "Set time & date automatically" in the Date & Time System >Preferences is unchecked.
I've never tried this so I'll give it a shot and see if performance improves.
now it seems almost obvious: 99% looks like a network fault and nothing >to do with your Tiger installation...
Perhaps, I'm no networking specialist, but I have flawless network performance until printing some random document at school over wireless triggers the whole series of events I mentioned above. My home router has never triggered this problem... although I have never tried to print wirelessly at home because I have no printer.
    1) how big is your network? (how many wireless and how many wired Macs >access your Router)
At Home: Very small, 1 PowerBook 64 and one iBook G3
At School: Small: Two Windows machines and my PowerBook G4. Wireless box is plugged into the existing router that was there. I have windows printer sharing checked in the "sharing" section of "system prefs"
    2) make/model of your router
    D-Link DI-624 (Home)
Some crazy old dilapidated korean box (at school)
    3) how do you configure your router (via the browser (Safari) or via a >utility/application provided by the vendor)?
I believe I configure it manually... I access the router via web browser and configure my settings
    4) make sure DHCP is set to Off/Disabled and set your IPs for both your >Macs and the Router manually
    Check, Check
    5) If you're familiar with network settings like hosts file, post back your >configuration / make sure your IP addresses are assigned correctly
    Not familiar
btw your PowerBook has an AirPort Extreme card or a 3rd party Wireless card?
    AirPort Extreme card
Thanks for trying to help FU, hope this information helps you.

  • Why is Windows 8.1 causing my Verizon Mobile Broadband USB Pantech modem to auto connect/

Why is Windows 8.1 causing my Verizon Mobile Broadband USB Pantech modem to auto connect? If I turn it off in Windows Settings I can not get service. As I am on a 5 GB plan I do not want my internet running at all times nor do I want o have to disconnect from the internet every time I turn my computer on.

        mebpapa,
Hmm. That is a bit conflicting. After all, we don't want you to have to worry about usage running up or having to get disconnected each time you get on the computer. Ultimately, this is a software functionality of Windows 8.1 however. Have you noticed a high increase of usage when the auto connect is left on or are you just taking precautionary measures?

  • FileVault 2 seems to be causing kernel boot panics

    Hello,
I'm on a 10.8.2 Mountain Lion OS X (13-inch, Mid 2010), no new updates are available. I turned on FileVault 2 a few months ago and since then I've had a lot of kernel panics while booting. Sometimes it just booted ok and sometimes it panicked. Sometimes even twice in a row. Sometimes it created a crash report, sometimes it did not.
This is actually a clean-ish install, it's not an upgrade from Lion. I don't use Parallels Desktop or VMware as other threads sometimes mention. I don't use any NTFS driver. Although I do have Flash Player, GPGPreferences, Growl and Java plugins installed (I don't know if they have anything to do with those drivers).
Before I turned the Vault on, no boot panics.
After I turned it on, sometimes panic, sometimes not, couldn't find any system in it. About 50 % chance of a crash.
After I turned it back off, no panics so far.
So I turned it off today and tried restarting about twenty times (shut downs, restarts) and no kernel panic so far. I also installed Memtest and had it run in single user mode once and everything was ok.
I have three very similar general protection fault reports, I'm going to post the latest one here but if anyone wants to take a look at the other ones, please let me know.
Problem is I don't know if this is my hardware error or FileVault error.
    Thank you,
    Ollie

There are other reports of kernel panics like this one with FileVault. The cause seems to be an OS bug that only affects certain models and/or aftermarket SSD's. Make sure your system is fully updated. If it is, the only workaround I know of is to deactivate FileVault.

  • What does com.apple.cts.plugin do? It seems to be causing high CPU consumption by UserEventAgent

I have been having some trouble over the last couple of days with UserEventAgent process. It constantly consumes over 100% CPU. This of course results in obvious problems of the unit getting really hot, high CPU fan speed and faster battery drain.
While investigating the root cause, I removed each of the plugins (located at /System/Library/UserEventPlugins/) one by one and restarted the UserEventAgent process (if you force quit the process, it restarts) and each time, observed the impact on CPU consumption.
After a while, I was able to zero down on "com.apple.cts.plugin". If I removed this file from the plugins folder and forced UserEventAgent to restart, my CPU usage went back to normal with no excess heat or high-speed fan.
While it seems to solve my problem, I am left wondering what this plugin really does and if by not having it I am putting my system at risk.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I learnt this the hard-way as well. I am not too sure but probably it has something to do with cerification authority or something like that. BTW I am looking for the answer as well.

  • DNS UDP Delay - seems to be caused by default search provider

I am having trouble with my local network and UDP connections. there seems to be a 12 second delay when sending UDP connection requests. I used wireshark to spot the issues, and the results pointed toward the DNS server trying to resolve local IPs with bing.com.
I cannot seem to remove the default search provider and I do not see why it is trying to check with bing.com to get the mac address of a local IP. The ports have been added as a rule in the firewall to allow. And when using arp in the command prompt it resolves
the mac address and replies back with it in a matter of milliseconds. So I can not figure out why when I send a UDP connection from an ASP page to another computer on the network it seems to try and ask bing.com where it can find the mac address for that IP.
Does anyone know what might be causing this? I re-installed server 2008 many times and also windows 7 on the client machines and still the same results and the same delay duration.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am not getting what you mean.
" I used wireshark to spot the issues, and the results pointed toward the DNS server trying to resolve local IPs with bing.com"
Do you mean that DNS requests sent to bing servers?
"I cannot seem to remove the default search provider and I do not see why it is
trying to check with bing.com to get the mac address of a local IP"
I am not getting also how a system sends a request to bing.com asking for ARP resolution. ARP is a layer 2 protocol and is mainly based on broadcasts and communications with your switches. It is not possible that ARP requests go to internet.
"So I can not figure out why when I send a UDP connection from an ASP page to
another computer on the network it seems to try and ask bing.com where it can find the mac address for that IP."
That would be great that you share the logs you have so that we can have a better visibility.
If you are using an AD domain then I would recommend that you follow the IP settings and DNS recommendations I shared in this Wiki: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/18513.active-directory-replication-issues-basic-troubleshooting-steps-single-ad-domain-in-a-single-ad-forest.aspx
That should help in fixing known issues with DNS resolution.

  • Firefox update seems to have caused my Apache server to stop working. What do I do?

I have been using MAMP apache and SQL servers successfully on my mac for the past few months. Up until this morning.
I switched on my computer this morning, clicked on the Firefox icon to launch and it automatically started running an update (which I hate - if I wanted to update I would've asked!).
Firefox is running fine but I can no longer connect to my Apache server. The only thing that has changed between now and last night (when I last used MAMP) is the Firefox update.
Please can you detail what the update has done and what could possibly have caused it to conflict with my MAMP? I have lost a morning so far trying to figure it out and cannot get on with my work without it!

    Hi,
Open windows ControlPanel, open Device Manager, expand Sound, video and game controllers, right click the Realtek device and select Proprties.  Select the 'Driver' tab and then click on 'Roll Back Driver'.
Let the process complete, then restart the notebook.
    Regards,
    DP-K

  • When I try to hibernate my computer, it goes through the process of shutting down but immediatly restarts. could this be caused by the browser?

I am running windows 7 on a dell laptop xps 17. This has only started happening recently and the only thing that has been changed on my computer is the update for firefox. At the moment, it will sometimes hibernate when I shut the lid, however, on at least one occasion I could not get it to work, and had to shut the computer down, instead. I don't know what else you might need to know. Please contact me if you need more information or if this is not a browser problem, so that I can look elsewhere for the answer.

I think so...I've been doing some experimenting...the first time this happened, I thought that it was just a glitch in something. After I shut down the computer completely, it doesn't do it...a day or so ago, there was an update applied by firefox and it seemed that it started doing it again after that. However, this doesn't make sense to me. I shut the computer down a while ago and now it is hibernating fine again. I tried shutting it down after I logged on and it worked fine. I've opened firefox and it is still working fine. I've also opened my outlook and it doesn't appear to be causing it. I believe that something I am opening might be doing this even though the program itself is shut down, although I have no idea how unless the computer believes it is still on. The only other program I run, is MSWord and MSN messenger, which is open now and I can still hibernate. I figured that the this was a long shot but thought I would ask. So I think the answer to your question is yes, it happens even when I don't have firefox open. I've shut everything down and tried to hibernate it and it won't do it once this starts happening. I'm completely out of ideas.

  • When using Safari on my IPhone 4S videos in Tumblr all seem to autoplay causing the app to crash if there is a page with a lot of videos.

This started one day out of the blue before I updated to ios 8.0.  The videos used to pull up with the "play" arrow, and you would click on it to play.  Then, one day they all seemed to all load and start playing by themselves.  If it is a page with a lot of videos, I get an error that says "a problem occured with this page so it was reloaded".  It then reloads over and over and over, then the app shuts down and goes back to the home screen.
I never changed any settings or anything.  It just changed one day.  I updated to ios 8.1 thinking this might fix it, but it didn't.  I even did a restore, and still nothing.
    Any ideas?

I'm pretty sure this is a new feature of their site - videos autoplay on modern browsers now.  Download the Google Chrome app and see if the issue persists. My guess is it will and there's nothing you can do. It's not an issue with your phone.

  • Lacie external hard drive won't mount, seems dead. Caused by 10.5.6 update?

Hi all, a couple days after I updated Leopard to 10.5.6, my Lacie external drive no longer worked with TimeMachine. So I repaired permissions and ran Repair Disk from my original 10.3 Panther disk. Not sure if that was the cause, but afterward when the drive is connected by FireWire, it makes exciting new loud buzzing and grinding noises, and then I get an alert that reads "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer." Apple Disk Utility shows it as a Maxtor Calypso drive now with a capacity of 2TB, even though it's a 160GB (a FireWire only, Porsche model). I don't want to erase the disk and reformat it because I want the data.
Lacie customer support says the drive has suffered a "controller failure." Says Lacie, "The controller on the hard drive mechanism can not obtain the volume information on the hard drive and can not gain access. It is reading the control board information. You should be able to install a new hard drive mechanism in the enclosure and be ready to go again." Lacie CS continued to say DiskWarrior etc will not help.
Now I know that theoretically software updates shouldn't damage hardware, but I believe installing Leopard in the first place caused my lower RAM slot to fail. (That happened immediately after the upgrade.)
-So, does anyone think the 10.5.6 update could have caused this problem? Any fix ideas?
-If not, should I open the drive up and attempt to repair/replace this controller mechanism? If so, can anyone direct me to tutorials or instructions on how I could do that?
-Or, should I try putting it in the freezer overnight, as some online forums recommend as a last resort fix attempt for dead HDs?
I want the data, but not enough to pay for an expensive data recovery service.
    Thank you very, very much.
    scott

First off, software can not cause hardware to fail.
Lower RAM slot failure is a common issue not because of software issues, but rather because memory is unaware of bus slewing issues with energy saver power requirements. Secondly, the lower RAM slot of these machines was extremely hard to properly align the RAM right in the slot, making it easy to misplace the RAM during the installation process, thus short or damage teh slot. See my FAQ on bad RAM*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/badram.html
You should be able to open the drive, and insert it inside another inexpensive hard drive case that is known to be compatible such as those by http://www.macsales.com/
Unfortunately, recently LaCie has had some hard drive interface converters which have not caught up with spec changes in the operating system, meaning their external drives sometimes need a firmware update. The only company that has been able to consistently avoid firmware updates is http://www.macsales.com/ This problem has plagued Firewire hard drives since the release of 10.3, and possibly earlier at as mentioned on my FAQ*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/firewirebug2.html
If inserting the drive in another case does not solve issues, Prosoft Data Rescue, Subrosasoft Filesalvage, or Boomerang's Boomerang and a second drive at least as large as the one to be recovered can sometimes extract information from a flakey hard drive. In event that doesn't work, then data recovery specialist is the only option.
In the future always backup your data and never let there be less than two copies of your data at anytime*:

  • Focus() call on a select tag seems to be causing problems

I have a reasonably complicated web site with dynamically created, absolutely positioned, overlapping divs with form elements contained within them.
Starting with Firefox 4 and in Firefox 5, clicking on a dropdown list (<select>) tag can cause fragments of text from some of the "bottom" (i.e. not visible) divs to appear within the "top" (i.e. visible) div.
I can make this problem go away by setting the onmousedown handler (not previously set) for the select tag to a dummy event handler which terminates the event. I can force it to happen again either by allowing the event to bubble up or by explicitly calling .focus(). Also, causing any part of the screen to refresh (such as writing to the DOM) will cause the fragments of text to disappear and the problem does not then reoccur with the given <select> tag.
This issue does not arise in IE 8 / 9, Opera 10 / 11 or Chrome.
Is this a known issue? If it is the .focus() call which is causing the problem and given that that is native code, is there a workaround other than what I have done?

Took a look at the SQL Navigator. The "DB Navigator" (the navigation tree on the left with all the DB objects in it) shows the right precision and scale of every column, whereas the "columns" tab that appears when you >double click the view in the DB navigator always shows "number(0,0)". So I consider this a bug of SQL Navigator, but don´t believe it has anything to do with your problem.Yup, you're absolitely right. Not impreseed with SQL navigator!!!
Just a thought: Could it be that some restrictions concerning the db user (dunno, perhaps even FGAC?) prevents that specific data to be shown? Do you connect in SQL Navigator as the same user as with the other >applications?Nice idea but I'm using the same user account.
My background is in SQL Server (don't hold it against me :) ) and that has a tool called Profiler than enables one to capture the query being executed against the database engine. Does Oracle have anything similar? It might be useful to test whether the driver does something funky to the query that might manifest itself in what I'm seeing!

  • Upgrade seems to have caused bind issues

I upgraded to APEX 3.2 today, and I'm finding some things that broke in my application. The installation of 3.2 went fine, then I switched to the APEX_030200 schema and enabled the APEX_PUBLIC_USER, bounced the webserver, and was able to get in. But two of my applications were missing. They just weren't there. I reverted back to 3.0 and did an export of those applications and re-imported them into 3.2. Now I am going through them and there seem to be a few problems.
I am trying to create a dropdown list as follows:
    select ADMIN_USERNAME d, ID r
      from APEX_ACCESS_CONTROL
    where ORG_ID in
       (SELECT ORG_ID FROM ORG_ENTITIES
          CONNECT BY PRIOR ORG_ID = MNG_ORG_ID
          START WITH ORG_ID = :G_USER_ORGID)
       and CLERK = 'Y'
order by ADMIN_USERNAMEThe bind variable is an application variable. If I use a hard value, the LOV works fine, but as soon as I change it out to a substitution variable, the dropdown comes up nulll - no values at all.
PS. I have double-checked, and the session state shows G_USER_ORGID with the correct value (populated on page 1 on login).
I didn't get any errors in the logs during the upgrade. This should work, but doesn't. Can anyone point me at a fix? I depend on these application variables a LOT and this application is mission critical.

Sorry, I that application build was the same one we used to import after it disappeared. I've tried three different LOV queries on that page. The one that works is:
    select ADMIN_USERNAME d, ID r
      from APEX_ACCESS_CONTROL
    where CLERK = 'Y'
order by 1This one doesn't work:
    select ADMIN_USERNAME d, ID r
      from APEX_ACCESS_CONTROL
    where ORG_ID in
       (SELECT ORG_ID FROM ORG_ENTITIES
          CONNECT BY PRIOR ORG_ID = MNG_ORG_ID
          START WITH ORG_ID =
          (SELECT ORG_ID FROM APEX_ACCESS_CONTROL
            WHERE ID = v('G_USER_ORGID')))
       and CLERK = 'Y'
order by ADMIN_USERNAMENor does this one:
    select a.ADMIN_USERNAME d, a.ID r
      from   APEX_ACCESS_CONTROL a
    where a.ORG_ID in (select ORG_ID from ORG_ENTITIES
           where MNG_ORG_ID = DECODE(:G_USER_ORGID,901,MNG_ORG_ID,:G_USER_ORGID)
         union SELECT ORG_ID from ORG_ENTITIES
           where ORG_ID = :G_USER_ORGID)
           and a.ORG_ID > 0
order by 1All three work just fine in SQL-Plus, but the two referencing the global variable don't work in APEX after the upgrade.

  • ASIO enabled apps seem to be causing popping/crackling in my right channel

Not 100% sure of this, but I seemed to have narrowed it down to that... let me explain a bit...
I have an Audigy 2 Platinum and the four main audio applications I use are Sony's Sound Forge 8.0, Propellerhead's Reason 3.0, Steinberg's Cubase SX, and Yannick Delwiche's MadTracker 2.5. Now, here are the audio device settings for each application:
Sound Forge 8.0 - "Microsoft Sound Mapper"
    Reason 3.0 - "SB Audigy 2 ASIO [A800]"
Cubase SX - "SB Audigy 2 ASIO [A800]"
    MadTracker 2.5 - "SB Audigy 2 Audio [A800]"
As you can see, two of the apps are set for ASIO while the other 2 are regular WDM type things. Here's what I noticed one day while trying to record from "What U Hear/Wave." With Sound Forge's Record window open, the visual line monitor was showing the right channel having sporadic pops & cracks every second or so. Even though I wasn't hearing these pops & cracks from the actual physical right speaker, I recorded something and, not surprisingly, the pops & cracks were included on the right channel of my recording. Not sure where it was coming from, I rebooted, fired up Sound Forge again, and this time the visual line monitor was silent... perfect... but here's where the problems happen... with Sound Forge still open, I fired up Reason and the instant it loaded, the line monitor started with the pops & cracks again.
In short, after playing numerous scenarios, it appears once an app set to use ASIO is started, popping & cracking stays in the right channel until I reboot. Non-ASIO apps seem to leave everything fine but once an ASIO app gets started the crackling returns and the only way to get rid of it is a reboot.
Any idea what's going on? I would appreciate actual help and not some trivial e-pene-fuled "you shouldn't be using an SB for pro audio noob, etc etc blah blah blah"

Have you checked if there are IRQ shares with Audigy?
Did you mute other Sources than wave when you recorded using "W-U-H"?
What latency settings are you using with ASIO?

  • Imac freezes during start-up. Seems to be caused by Airport issue.

My Imac freezes during startup. I have tried starting it in safe mode without any luck. After the initial start sequence when it gets to this point: Airport linkup en1, the computer starts writing the same line endlessly: com.apple.launch [1] (com.apple.mDNSRsponder [2710]): posix_spawnp (“/usr/sbin/mDNSResponder”,...): No such file or directory
I am not a technician and new to Macs too. I have tried almost everything in the supportfile about freeze issues. I am not able to start the Mac in safe mode. I have repaired the disk. I have tried reinstalling the software, but this fails too.
Did a couple of changes on the timecapsule before it happened (creating a network and new security settings and backup settings) and installed Photoshop Elements 9 and did a lot of file restructuring. Left the computer open and came back to a blue screen. Since then I have been unable to start.
My macbook works fine with the changes. I am stuck - what to try now?
I need my files and they are luckily on the timecapsule, but i am not able to open the imac-bundle file on the macbook, why?
    Thanks for helping.

did a lot of file restructuring.
In Finder>Go>enter /usr/sbin do you see mDNSResponder listed there?
Try Repairing Permissions for the Volume in Disk Utility (Note: may take a long time in 10.5.8)
