E7 sent folder is empty

Has anyone experiencing such an issue whereby their pop/imap sent mail folder is empty dispite having sent numerous emails out ? any solutions out there ?

Hi there,
I am using NM with an Imap account and i am  able to sync the sent folder with outlook. i just had to rename the sent folder on outlook to match the sent folder name on my E72. the folder is called "Sent items". it has to be exactly like on the NM, otherwise it will not work.

If you have a backup with Time Machine, open Mail then click on the Time Machine icon on your dock. You should be able to move back in time to find the missing Mail and restore it.

First, you need to show folders and files which are normally invisible. To do this, open Terminal in Utilities and copy/paste
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool true
    Hit return, then copy/paste
    killall Finder
    and hit return again.
Next hit Cmd-Shift-G and enter ~/Library/Mail and hit return
Open the triangle next to Mail and  look for a file named
    .OfflineCache file
and move it to the Trash. If this file exists, doing this will probably fix the problem.
You will need to reverse the show hidden command by just adding false to it, instead of true and them killall Finder again.

    Restore your backup

  • Suddenly hundreds of "sent" messages disappeared. Folder is empty, but 'properties' says there are 679 messages. So not deleted I guess. But where are they?

The only thing I changed before this happened was the 'retention' policy in my account settings with respect to retaining/deleting messages on the server. I had that set at 'never delete' while I was away for a week, but changed it to delete after 7 days on my return today. All sent messages then disappeared on the server, and I discovered later to my surprise in my computer as well. Next to the "Sent" folder in the computer there's now a small square that's filled in darkly. I don't know if the square was there before, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't dark if it was there at all. I really need those 'sent' messages - at least the most recent ones. Does anyone have any idea what's going on? Also - I could do a 'system restore', but have the feeling that won't affect my Thunderbird account at all. Is that right?

I suspect your account is an IMAP account. With IMAP all mail is managed on the server. If you delete a message in Thunderbird it is removed on the server as well, and vice versa.
So I think what happened is what's described in the article in the
'It's just doing what you told it to do' section.
    More details in this article.
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Message_aging
If you want to avoid messages being deleted set the retention policy to 'never delete'.
I don't think I understand what 'a small square that's filled in darkly' is.
A system restore won't do you any good as the Thunderbird profile isn't covered.
Miscellaneous.msf won't help. Msf files are index files, and do not contain any messages.
Your best bet is to restore a backup of your profile.

  • Exchange – Emails in sent folder have no sender information in header

    Hey Everybody,
when I send emails with my exchange account in mail.app the copy of the email that is stored in the sent folder is missing the sender information in its header. The "from" column is empty, however, it should say my name there.
Pretty annoying because I use smart folders to organize my mails that depend on the sender information in the header. The only workaround I found so far is using imap in mail.app instead of exchange – but that's not a really satisfying solution.
I only have this problem when using mail.app with exchange. When I use the outlook.com web interface to send emails they are shown correctly in the sent folder in mail.app. Same goes for sending mails via exchange from my iPhone. My MobileMe account also works perfectly in mail.app. For the receiver there is no problem either - my name is correclty displayed as the sender.
Is anybody else having that problem or knows or solution?

Open Apple Contacts and verify your contact as "My Card". Microsoft calls this card "This is me". It's not stored on Exchange but in the local Outlook Address Book. I don't use Exchange  so not sure if Apple will let you select your contact on Exchange contacts. You might need to select the local or iCloud contact.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11582
Once you set "My Card", check to see if the issue is fixed.
    If you still have issues.....
Let's eliminate issues in your User's folder by testing in a new User.
    CREATE A NEW USER
Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Accounts. Switch to the New User by logging out/in or use Fast User Switching.
Add your Exchange account to Mail.
Do you still see the issue?
If yes, then the problem is with your base files.
If no, then the problem is in your User's folder.
Option to repair Mail in your User's folder:
Go to your User's Library folder. (if you don't know how to find, see this link.)
    Scroll to Mail folder.
Select the V2 > MailData folder.
Delete any files in MailData with envelope in the name. (should be 3)
You can test Mail after deleting envelope files. When you open Mail it will re-index your files.
    If you still have problems....
Go to Containers in the User's Library folder.
    Delete the com.apple.mail folder.
Go to Preferences in the User's Library folder.
If you find any com.apple.mail.plist files, delete these.
Log out under the Apple in the Menu bar
    Log in
    Open Mail.

  • How do I delete 132 e-mails in the sent folder that I can't see?

My 'Sent' folder is showing 132 e-mails in summary but when I click on the folder itself, nothing is visible! The folder appears empty.
Also, my e-mail application is occupying 2.0GB of space on the iPad. How do I reduce the size of the application?
    Many thanks!

Close the mail app completely, and reset the iPad. Closing the app and resetting may allow the emails to reappear and/or it might reduce the email storage on the device - assuming that something is out of whack.
In order to close apps in iOS 7, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Sent mail occasionally not stored in sent folder

    Hi,
we encountered weird problem with OS X server behaviour where user sent email via smtp server and it is not stored in his/her mailbox.
This issue is happening time to time I would say almost randomly.
Do you have any idea why this is happening and where is the sent mail?

I have a few users reporting the same problem. It is inconsistent and I have not found a way to reproduce it at will.
Our users have been BCC them selves so they have a copy to move to sent it if is not there.
They have also reported mail being copied to the Send and Drafts folders when they send it.
When they login from a different mail client the folders are the same. So I am assuming the problem is server side? Or at least the result is.
Is it the clients job to ask the server to move the mail from outbox to the sent folder?
I think this is where the problem is occurring.
We were looking at it this morning and moving mail around from Drafts to Trash and Sent. Mostly it moved around fine but there was one instance where we moved mail from Drafts to Trash.
We then quit and opened mail again (we waited until the activity window was empty)
The mail we moved to Trash was gone. But a new mail was in Drafts that had been sent earlier that morning. A copy was still in the Sent folder.
    We could not reproduce this.
We also have roundcube but it is the mail.app clients that notice the problems. They are the majority so it is to be expected.
    Clients OS X 10.10.2, mail.app 8.2
    Server 4.0.3, OS X 10.10.2, Roundcube 1.0.3 (Topicdesk Roundcube Installer 1.0.3a)

  • Duplicate messages in sent folder in hotmail

I am suing hotmail account on Mac/ apple Email.  All messages sent from hotmail account are shown in duplicate in Sent folder.
Its frustrating to delete these messages as I have a habit of keeping Sent folder empty after transferring the required messages to my folders.

You could try the advice in the page I linked, under "Corrupted Folders". If Thunderbird is in its safe mode, are the messages still missing? Some extensions can cause problems.

  • When sending e-mail, a message says that the sent folder is full,-- even though it is not-- however the mail still gets sent. No problem sending mail to myself

I am running Thunderbird version 33.1 Recently, when sending e-mail, I get an error message indicating that the sent folder is full and that I should empty or compress it to fix the problem-- so I emptied it-- problem remains. Also, there is no record of sending the e-mail in the sent folder, even though the mail has been sent. No such problems occur when I send mail to myself.
    Any suggestions ???

If you deleted some of the messages you have done one half of the process. Deleting a message just marks it for deletion and hides it from view. You have to COMPACT the folder to actually delete the messages and free up the space.
I agree that Thunderbird did a poor job naming this process because it is the subject of much misunderstanding.
    Read about compacting here.

  • Thunderbird hangs with "Copying to sent folder" after sending mail

This is the same as has been reported by other users, however I have more info which I hope may be useful. (I haven't been able to receive my account confirmation email so created a new issue - separate problem!)
The solutions which have been previously suggested (repair folders, compact folders and archive sent folder) do not cure this issue for me, which happens to me roughly 2-3 times every day. Restarting TB cures it for a short while.
I've noticed that the problem almost always happens if I have a reminder that either is on screen or has recently popped up and been closed with a "1 hour reminder" (or other duration rather than dismissed).
I generally mark an email which requires me to act with a "convert to task" and a reminder. Today, for example, I received an email asking me to join a conference call this afternoon at 4:30. So I used "convert to task" and asked to be reminded at 4:15. This will almost certainly cause TB to hang later this afternoon when I send an email while the reminder is on screen. Reminders often sit unnoticed behind other windows and this is generally the case when the hanging takes place.
I'm using TB 31.1.1 on Ubuntu Gnome 14.04. I've only started having this problem in the last few months, at first every few days, but now several times a day.
So I don't think size of Sent folder is the cause of this issue (it also sometimes hangs when saving to the Drafts folder too, which is usually empty) - I'm convinced it's something to do with a problem caused by reminder notifications being on screen or pending. The fact that restarting TB allows emails to be stored correctly in the Sent folder without a problem (for a while!) means that size or corruption are not the likely causes.
Hope this helps others out there to pin this one down, even if I can't offer a solution - and any more info will be useful!

Today this has happened four times, so I've now decided I'll have to switch to a different email client. For now, I'll use Evolution but continue to watch this thread to see if a cure is offered.
Sorry to leave, as I like the product, but I can no longer work effectively when I have no confidence that my emails have been sent, and are not recorded in the Sent folder.
