E70 Firmware

My incomplete E70 runs firmware 1.0610.05.07
dated 30-05-06. The latest firmware updater
1.1.40en, tells me that no update is available
for my phone.
If there are truely no firmware updates available
since 30-05, five months after all the bug reports
and problems people are having, then I can only
assume that the problems are so many as to be daunting
for the poor software developers, or Nokia just doesn't
care.
I bought this phone SIM free in order to get it as soon
as possible, and consequently paid top dollar for it.
Am pretty upset that I am now back using my faithful
6230 which, while basic, does exactly what it says
it can do. Come on Nokia, let me have the latest firmware,
it can hardly do less that the stuff I have..
Code 0538292.

  • E70 Firmware install frozen

    Hi all,
I'm upgrading my E70 firmware right now via my PC and Nokia Software updater.
It's currently about 75% done and now appears frozen. Nokia Updater says "updating software, please wait" The screen display on the phone shows "test mode" and none of the buttons are working.
    Any ideas?
Should I stop the whole process and try to switch off the phone and restart?
Not much help on the Nokia FAQs, Any help appreciated.

Nokia updater was definately doing nothing, so I stopped it all, pulled the battery out and restarted the phone.
On restart it was in "as out of the box" mode.
After backing up my phone from my PC, all seems to be in order. I've lost all the installations (worldmate, expenses and all that **bleep**), It's no problem as I only used Adobe Reader and Zip manager and they are easy to reinstall.
All appears well (famous last words)and it seems I have the latest firmware version.

  • E70 Firmware Upgrade Process improvements

I'm currently on the road, using my E70 via bluetooth to get online with an unlimited Cingular data plan. I downloaded the 15mb Nokia Software Updater, but much to my dissatisfaction, the upgrader cannot do anything if I have an active internet connection through the E70.
With the connection open, the updater will forever try to identify my phone, but never succeed.
Once I close the connection, it will identify the phone, but without an internet connection will be unable to download the update and fail. (Retrying this process starts at the beginning identification phase, not just retrying the internet connection, so I could not just reconnect to the internet after it identified the phone).
Needless to say, I found myself an internet cafe in Jackson, MS and was able to do the download. The connection between the E70 and the update utility remained open throughout the process of downloading the 50mb(!) firmware. If this process was seperated into three distinct modular steps, it could allow for more flexible upgrading:
    1) (Offline) Phone identification.
    2) (Online) Firmware check and new version download (no active USB connection to phone required)
    3) (Offline) Firmware uploading to the phone (with confirmation that the phone hasn't changed since the initial identification.
If each of these steps was presented somewhat seperately ("next" button? List of steps, etc...) one could download firmware not Over-The-Air directly, but without needed a seperate connection to the internet other than the phone. I considered using my 3650 to connect to Cingular while I did this upgrade on the E70, but the slowness of GPRS vs. EDGE stings pretty hard. Especially when considering a 50mb download (good thing I didn't try it!)
    Comments?
    Nokia History: E70 (2006); 6820 (2005); 3650 (2004); 3595 (2004)

Additional request for the update process. When I ran the updater for the first time (online), the in-web-page flash installer just sits with the progress bar at about 10% and hangs indefinitely.
I decompiled the swf and figured out what their dumb app was doing. As suspected, its a lame veneer over some overcomplicated logic that at the end of the day just downloads an EXE. And the logic to construct that path is broken. Groan. So, I got the exe myself and ran it, it downloaded the whole 50MB and installed it, trashing all my preferences (of which teh backup utility only saves some of them - thanks for that Nokia). Then it re-installed exactly the same firmware I already had.
You really do have some class 1 software engineers working on this stuff !!! You should all feel proud of the amazingly good job you are doing and sleep well at night knowing you are good at your jobs and are improving your customer experience with every new change that you make. Thank goodness its only the crippling lameness that is even worse at msft that avoids you being put completely out of business.

  • E70 Firmware Issues

I attempted to upgrade the firmware on my E70 and the update program stopped halfway through. Now my phone won't turn on.
It simply brings up the Nokia logo, flashes it a few times, then brings it up again. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

I'd email Nokia using the contact form (link on menu at top of page).
The more E70 users who raise the issue, and suggest pulling the update until this matter is resolved.

  • E70 Firmware Upgrade??

I have just got a E70 phone, great phone and with python available.
There were a couple of annoying "bugs" I noticed in using it over the last couple of days (one is mass-storage stops working randomly)
A mate recomended search for firmware upgrade
So checking my firmware with *#0000# I get:
    1.0610.05.07
    30-05-06
    RM-10
    Nokia E70
and looking around I see that version: 2.0618.07.10
    is about
BUT using the nokia software updater is says no upgrades are available?
This is a contract phone with Vodaphone (UK) and the code in the battery compartment is: 0531051
    any help apreaciated.
ps. Nokia suite connection works and all

I Got a reply from Vodaphone

So basically the E70 *should* be able to auto-update via the program BUT for some reason Nokia are not allowing it?

  • E70 Firmware updates: Changelog?

    Hi.
Anyone knows where can I find the changelog of these firmware updates?
My version is 1.0610.05.07 and everything seems to work fine. I'm wondering if there is an advantage to upgrade.

Sure, the V2 is at the very least better than V1, memory issues etc. As change log goes, I've seen it before and it's extensive. Google it up all I can say.
And what do u mean it's working fine. You don't get frequent crash coz of memory issues ?
That's good. But even V2 for me is not sufficient. The GUI is slow as hell for me, compared to other phones.

  • E70 firmware version update

I have an E70 running the latest firware release (as far as I can tell):
    2.0618.07.10
    31-08-06
    RM-10
    Nokia E70
    Product Code: 0538292
I've had this phone for about two months now and I have to say that it is hardly an improvement on my old 6822.
It seems to suffer with the most obvious & glaring bugs. To name a few these would be:
    i) Profiles: Unable to set individual ring & message tones from the gallery (phone or card memory).
ii) Calendar app: does not provide for copying occurrences to other dates/times.
iii) Calendar app: does not allow moving of meetings using a UI.
iv) Calendar app: changing the date on x1 instance of a repeatable occurrence is not handled correctly - can only edit the whole set.
    v) Calendar app: To-Do notes without a due by date are set to 01/01/2007 (which is daft).
vi) Word processor app: does not handle new/end-of-line characters properly from either UNIX or Windows text documents; leads to funny errors when editing a document pushed to the phone.
I could go on. But it strikes me as odd that something that worked so well on the 6820/6822 models is so fundamentally dysfunctional on the 'better' model.
Does anyone out there know where an update that fixes some of these problems can be found? If not, then can someone from Nokia development offer anything?
I'd be very grateful to hear something as this is becoming a complete pain to use now.

  • Updating E70 to V3 firmware leaves V2

    Hi,
I'm trying to update the firmware on my E70 (unbranded UK version).
    NSU says:
    Current: 2.0618.07.10
    Update: 3.0633.09.04
So I do the update and it says it was successful and I can use the phone again. The phone reboots but I still have the V2 software (confirmed with *#0000#), though all my settings are lost.
I've tried several times on two different PCs (it wasn't easy borrowing a Windows machine!) and even taking the memory card out and also trying a different SIM. Each time NSU tells me there is an update, looks like it has updated, but the old firmware is still there.
    NSU version is 1.4.0en.
    Any ideas?

There are more posts on this in the thread "e70 firmware upgrade". It seems one of the update files is still referencing the v2 software, so although the updater thinks it is putting v3 in, it is actually reflashing v2.

  • Comparison between E70 and N91

I've been waiting for the E70 for a while now, and it looks like it's going to be available very soon now and I'll be asking my manager if I can upgrade my 6680 to one.
The reason I wanted one was for the VOIP connectivity and WLAN... Are there any feature differences between the E70 and the N91 which I've recently been recommended? A few things I would really like to know are:
    1. Do the two phones do VOIP the same? since the E70 is a business phone I was presuming that would be more geared towards that.
    2. Are there any other reasons why I would want an E70 over an N91? They both have WLAN, both have S60 3.0, The only difference I can see is the N91 has a 4GB harddrive and the E70 has the flip-out screen.
Any recommendations one way or the other would be fantastic

I know there's differences, and they're each geared towards different things, gut they're practically the same from a specs point of view... It would be more like comparing an Audi A4 and a VW Passat, both practically the same engine, same interior and same extras, just packaged and marketed differently:
    Both are S60 3.0
    Both have WLAN
    Both have the SIP stack
Both can do music, even though the N91 is better at it
Both can do VOIP, even though the E70 is probably better at it
    Both can do email
What I'm trying to find out is... Without having one of each to look at side-by-side, what are the features that one really out-performs the other on? You mentioned the music player is different, how different?
I would quite like to use the music player and the 4GB harddrive, but since work would be paying for it I would like to make sure it could do everything the E70 could do without any big drawbacks (eg. If the N91 didn't actually have a VOIP client and the E70 did, that would be bad enough for me not to get it)

  • Strange symbol on E70

There is a strange symbol on my E70. It's located right under the battery indicator on the upper right hand side of the screen. It looks like a short U with an arrow inside pointing upwards.
I looked for this symbol on the manual, but it's just not there. Does anybody know what it is??

If the icon you are talking about looks like the image on the link below, it is the icon that indicates that your phone has messages in it's outbox.
    http://www.sample.org.uk/blog/files/smssendicon.png
It should appear for the few seconds that an SMS is being sent, but if something fails to send then that icon will stay there.
The phone should however automatically retry when you get coverage/over time. Hope that helps Message Edited by dusample on 27-Jun-2006

  • E70 resetting a lot

I got my nice new E70 yesterday, it's very nice, but in just 24 hours it's rebooted itself randomly 5 times.
Has anyone else seen this happening? Anyone know what is causing it?

    Hi Roma
I have been unable to find the changelog for the difference between the firmware you've got and the fireware I've got, but issues 1, 2 and 3 may have been addressed in that update, since I don't get those problems.
4 I see your problem, I can't find the voicemail number configuration anywhere.
5 I haven't got this one working yet, but I'm continuing with this.
I would have thought the firmware would be available at a service centre already, but you may want to check for a definite answer to whether it fixes the problems yet

  • Anyone checked E70 trip distance accuracy?

    Moved from Eseries forum.
    Hello
    Nokia E70 Firmware 3.xx
How accuraten do you expect the built in odometer (Trip Disttance) application to be?
I have tested with Nokia external LD-3W GPS and the distance has been 2x of the actual 2 km distance.
With such an error it's difficult to find much of use to it.
When I have checked cordinates, there have been correct.
The problen may come from the GPS drift 10-20 metres, that's even when GPS is on the office window E70 may report a speed of 1.5 km/h (Expected 0 km/h)
It looks that E70 isn't able to calculate distance correctly with slow speed (walking).
Any other Nokia more precise at given task?
Is there any other better performing applications for E70?
    Thanks.

  • Where is v3 for E70

In the past the E70 firmware has been released about a month after the E61's. E61 got their new firmware almost 2 months ago now. I want to add my disapproval at having to wait so long for the new firmware. Please Nokia hurry up and release it! Its a great phone and I use it mainly for SIP but its a pain only being able to use it in my LAN.

I've had mixed experiences! It works perfectly in my LAN with Asterisk (at home in Australia) and I use it constantly. However outside of the LAN (NAT) connected to my Asterisk server I've had it work perfectly in a couple of locations (my work offices in the UK); work sometimes (at my Mums house in the UK); and not work at all (hotspots, my Dads house in the UK, various other places). I decided it was probably the wireless access points that were not working with the E70 at those locations. I have read that there is a IP stack bug with the Nokias (Look for 'E60 Routing Problems on Linksys WRT devices' at http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/Nokia). So if this is the problem I'm still left waiting for the new firmware that'll hopefully fix this bug! Dave

  • How do you backup the contents of your memory card...

I have bought a much larger capacity memory card for my 6680. How can I backup the contents (total) of my old Nokia supplied card ? PC Suite 6.6 fails everytime when I try to use that. Does anyone have any suggestions ?

Again, I've got to agree with the others about the USB card-reader. You can pick up a card reader specifically for RS-MMC cards from MobyMemory.com:
    http://www.mobymemory.com/proddetail.asp?prod=Reader%5FUSB2%5FRSMMC%5F001
Transferring over bluetooth or even USB using PC Suite can be very time consuming.
My phone also fails when I do a backup, but mine fails on Contacts, not on the memory card backup, so it might be that the error PC Suite is giving you isn't about the memory card backup.
Another thing to note is that the PC Suite file format for backing up is a binary file though, so once you've got 512MB file with all your files inside, you can't just 'unzip' it and view the contents, you'd have to upload it back to the phone before it would be readable.
The best suggestion would be to use a card reader.
    Hope that helps
    Duncan

  • Full screen caller

I have this application called full screen caller which shows a bigger picture of the caller than normal.
Thing is it now only ever shows one foto (the one I have set for my home phone calling me) and only displays my home number as well - which is quite annoying.
HAve tried reinstalling it etc, but still does the same.
    Any ideas??

Full Screen Caller is produced by SymbianWare, I think it would be best to contact them directly:
