E71-1: get back factory state applications? + ques...

E71-1 bought in Bangkok on Monday Sep 8, 2008.
1) I searched the forums but didn't find answers about whether a hard reset (turn on the phone + "call", "3" and "*" until the Nokia screens comes on) would restore the original applications which came in the phone.
Specifically Dictionary and Windows Live Messenger.
2) Also, do you guys install Themes on the phone memory or the MicroSD?
3) I turned-off the warning tones in the profile I am currently using but unlike for some other users, this trick didn't silence the camera shutter sound.
4) In offline mode (when no SIM card is inserted), Radio insists on using only cellular-based data connections to get a list of stations. Visual Radio is turned off and set to not start at launch.
So, Radio won't launch, wants a data connection first but my WLAN isn't listed in the settings for me to choose. Any way to force it to use the WLAN as opposed to the cellular connection?

Well, for 1), I could not wait for a response on here and did a hard reset. It does not restore the phone to the exact way it was when I took it out of the box.
Settings and all that are wiped out, wizard runs when the phone is turned on for the first time but the contents of the Installations folder are not restored to their original state.
SO, the way to restore the applications it seems was not to do a Hard Reset but to go the Menu > Download! That folder didn't do anything for me two days ago because I didn't have a SIM card inserted unlike yesterday when I tried again and it worked .
2) It seems to be best to install themes on the phone itself as opposed to the memory card: simple anecdotal evidence for these forums and others I have browsed for this question.
3) No way to turn off the camera shutter sound. Stupid Nokia!
4) the Hard Reset seems to have cleared this problem. Now Radio launches fine.
I don't think S60 is much more impressive than WM as far as I can tell. They both feel the same way. The OS gets in your way all the time, one way or another: the look, the UI, functions, it's just disappointing.
Stupid Nokia:
Nokia is using S60 the way other OEMs are using WM. They have no attention whatsoever for the details.
Another example: the Camera doesn't remember user settings from one launch to the next. It also doesn't focus by itself either, one must press T to get it to focus. And picture quality is not so good.
An unnecessary menu level in Tools > Settings > General > select General, you then get the contents of the General folder contents and the tabbed arrangement on the top right which should be offered right after Tools > Settings > General
The appearance of the icons rivals $25 phones menus I have seen. The E71 right out of the box has a very outdated icons and menu design.
The e-mail app is ridiculous: isn't the E Series a so called business-dedicated line of models? Idiots.

I have a application which has been developed in ASP .NET, Version 4.0. Help link has been created in this application wherein here the Start up page of index.htm has been linked to be read from the RoboHelp local project folder\!SSL!\Multiscreen_HTML5\desktop. All are working absolutely fine except when
I login into the above-said application -> click on the Help page -> the index.htm opens with Contents, Index, Glossary -> Am able to successfully perform any task by respective clickings
-> But I am not able to get back into my application when I click on the IE provided Back button (Alt+Left) -> Any amount of invoking Back button makes the system getting looped into this Start up page of index.htm only -> When I Close Tab (Ctrl + W) or Close ( X ) -> The window session gets closed and I have to repeat all by relogin once again.
How can I get back into my application aftermath invoking Start up page of index.htm ?
(I can always get back into the application easily by erasing those parts in the url which refers to this RoboHelp linkages – but this certainly looks non-polished work)

Hey Jeff, I used Internet Explorer 10.0.9200 and Google Chrome 26.0.1410. Alas - it is the same behavior.
(But Jeff : When I used Microsoft HTML Help as primary layout to generate chm file , My Help when launched from my Application opened in a new browser window and when I closed this Help browser window did not close my application. Looks like need to write few liner code to get this issue settled )

As you have iOS 6 you must be a developer and therefore should know that discussing iOS 6 outside of the private developer only forums is a violation of the non-disclosure agreement you signed to gain access to it.

Hi,
Before trying the following, make sure you can still read the 25 character Product Activation key on your Windows COA label ( 5 blocks of 5 alpha/numeric sets ). An example of the COA label can be seen Here.
Assuming that this is just a problem with the Recovery process, there is a straight forward work around if you have ( or can borrow ) a retail Windows 7 installation disc that is exactly the same version as your OEM installation - ie if your notebook came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit this is the exact retail version you would need.
If you don't have access to a retail disc, you can create an installation disc yourself using another PC - just download the correct Disc Image from the link below and use an application such as ImgBurn to burn the ISO correctly to a blank DVD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here. These Images are clean and from a well-respected source, however there are only limited versions available.

Resest Arch Linux to it's factory state?

Over the past months of testing Arch Linux, it has become I mess - I've installed and uninstalled loads of window managers which is making problems for E17, half the programs aren't installed correctly and I have an ill-configured Server and MythTV setup.
So, I decided to re-install Arch Linux and start from scratch again (this time, I know what I'll be doing), the only problem is that I have no Blank CD's. Is there any way I can reset Arch Linux back to it's factory settings?

eh this has been an issue for ever and ever. There are packages which make config files in /etc and other root folders ..samba is an example which used to do it and if you have edited some .conf files (in the past and then forgotten) then when you do "pacman -Rscn samba" it will not delete the .conf file (this is how it is supposed to be) But then there is no effective way to clean the littered configuration files from these important folders.
I have been trying to figure this for years here but there has not been any smooth solutions.
P.S I do know deleting user edited .conf files is a horrible idea...but what I was hoping is to find some viable way of cleaning the system with a BIG disclaimer, but the problem is that as soon as you edit these files pacman stops managing these files and disassociates the files from the package. All i wish is for an option.
P.P.S maybe brtfs snapshot will be a solution where you can go back to the clean install.
P.P.P.S Seems pacman tips page has been updated since I last used it, I am thinking it has a comprehensive list of tips to get to factory state. Still not very easy ...but hey this is Arch

Here is the procedure for your reference, using iTunes 10.7. The procedure and screenshots for newer versions are contained in the above link.
This assumes what you purchased is still available in the Store.
Open iTunes and click on iTunes Store on the left
On the right you will see this
Sign in with your Apple ID, then click on "Purchased" (with the orange blob)
On the summary page that appears select the tab "Not on This Computer" on the right.
On the list that appears, select what you want and then click the "Download" button.

I have deleted some of the channel strip presets in Logic 8, is there any easy way of getting back all the original factory ones?

Yes, you drag them over.
Roght click on the installer packages on the DVDs, and click on the "show package conte4nts" button. This will open the installer package, then navigate until you find the presets. If you have several DVDs, it may take time to get to them, but they're there.
You'll have to place them in your drive here :
Macintosh HD / Library / Application Support / Logic /
That is where all the presets are found. You might have to enter your admin password to copy them over.

The folder where your backup data is stored changes depending on the computer's operating system. Since iTunes only keeps one backup per device, you should ensure the backup folder is included in your periodic data backup routine.
iTunes places the backup files in the following places:
Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Windows Vista and Windows 7:\Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: If you do not see the AppData or Application Data folders, you may need to show hidden files (Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7).

Following code works properly:

This code works for me but only inserting one row. More than one causes an ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException once sendBatch is called.

The shelves should show the ibooks that you've got in the app i.e. your downloaded purchases from the iBookstore. At the top of the shelves there should also be a Store button (for browsing, purchasing, re-downloading books from the iBookstore), and Collections (where any PDFs that you've synced/copied into the app go).
