E71 camera quality

Just got my E71 two days ago. Great phone overall but the camera needs improvement. Everything has a distinct bluish tint with a lot of noise. Sepia mode really isn't sepia, it gives pics a slight reddish tint. In some lighting it gives more accurate colors than the standard setting.
Hopefully this can be fixed by software.

I am almost sure this can be fixed by software update because the scanner software (that came with my e71 and that I lost when i formatted my memory), gives much better view ... and you can feel the autofocus working .... Nokia definitely has to work on this ...
I would accept something like the scanner software that would allow you to save the photo as it is and it doesn't try to OCR it...
yes .. E71 is great .. but the cam is a big disappointment.

I agree. I too have been playing with my E71 for the past week, and camera quality is WELL below par. In fact, my E51 had superior camera quality!!! :? (wow, that was so impressive that one, for a 2mp). I expected more from the 3.2mp with AUTOFOCUS. Nokia, what went wrong????
But what I also find so bizarre, is that the autofocus DOES seem to work!! But why only in the SCANNER application?? It'll autofocus beautifully, to scan business cards or simply text. So it seems to work? I now use this for macro shots I take (choosing to always save my scan as an image) and that's a workaround.
I'm not necessarily using it as a multimedia device (although the bluetooth headset 503 works wonderfully over A2DP, I can recommend!), but the E51 wasn't a multimedia phone either so it all sounds very strange to me. For a business phone I expect decent camera quality, and when you claim it's autofocus I expect this too then. And not just in the scanner functionality.
Could someone from Nokia respond please!? If there is a chance that my phone (or the phone of other users) needs repairing because this shouldn't be happening then it's crucial to let us know.

    I am a little confuced about the camera quality of my handset Nokia E71 !
    I know that 3.2 m.p. camera is more than enough to view pic. on the screen of the mobile , but it seems that the drawback is in the way the screen deals with colors !
    Nokia claims that it supports up to 16 milion colors,however, comparing the same photo , on my old mobile Nokia 6233 which supports only 256 thousand color ,AND PUTTING THE TWO SCREENS JUST BEFORE MY EYES ,I really see that the colors of the pic. in Nokia 6233 are more rich ,more beautiful and more close to reality !
    What could be the reason behind that from your point of views?

    Sorry Ididn't make my self clear from the begining.
    I believe the problem is within the screen or the way the handset handles pictures not the camera itself !
    A picture taken by a third pary device , and send to both E71 and 6233 , it will look on 6233 really better in terms of colors and richness !
    I know E71 was never meant to be a mutimedia mobile like the N series ,but if the camera is 3.2 M.P. so the screen should support such quality with no problems , at the same timwe the screen supports 16 million colors, so where does the problem lie ?!!

  • E71 camera flash not working with auto focus

    I have using E71 from last 2 months . As of now i came to know its auto focus option by pressing '2' button. Before flash was working fine with auto focus option but from last 2 days flash light is not working with auto focus option and pictures clicked comes to be very dark. Can anyone suggest how to sort out this problem.

  • Camera quality

    I have a problem with the camera quality.The photos I take at dim light are really bad and the.photos are too grainy.Anyone faced this problem too.how can I fix it

    In very low light situation camera fails to get a proper white balance, the reduced resolution and small sensor don't help... but it's true ... color is greenish... this could be because there are twice the green photodiodes (or they are bigger) on sensor and the other ones don't get enough light...
    The reason for green photodiodes are in greater number is because our eyes sense green light better ... 
    Anyway ... use the main camera >_> ... secondary camera is just for video calls ... and you don't really care about color correctiness but detail (other person prefer to recognize your face on green than just see a blob of pixels) ... if, for any reason, you used the secondary camera, you can always correct white balance with an image editor...
    5800xm on a blender ... will happen sooner than expected.... v51 is a failure as an update .... v52 just postponed its fate....

    i have nokia 5800
    quality of cam is 3.2 megapixel
    resolution 2048 * 1536
    when i entered nokia website and compared it with nokia e66
    i found that they have the same camera quality
    but in fact 5800 camera quality is very very bad in compare to nokia e66 which appearde clear
    i updated my software version to v52
    i hated this camera
    can nokia or anyone solve this problem for me

     I found the 5800XM camera to be quite good for such a small lens and sensor.

    I realize this is a shot in the dark, but is there any way to adjust the video camera quality settings on a 5th-gen nano? I'm wondering if the poor quality of the video is a result of the hardware or the built-in compression settings.

    No. What you see is what you get.
    Here are the specs for captured video on your nano.
    H.264 VGA video, 640 by 480 pixels, up to 30 frames per second with AAC audio
    Not exactly top notch, but still decently quality for a decent price. It's more than likely due to both reasons. This may improve with future generations.

    You should know by now that there is a huge camera quality drop since the Amber update (which was not repared by the black update).
    If you don't know yet, then I suggest that you do some reading through the various forums about Windows Phone and Nokia : I think that you really need an update before to post/answer on this subject !
    The photo quality with my friends L920 was superb when it still had Portico.
    That is why I bought 2 L925 phones, but I discovered immediately that the photo quality was a lot worse than my friends pictures.
    When my friends L920 got he Amber update, his photo quality dropped as well.
    What were/and still are the quality drops
    - The photos are not sharp enough anymore after the amber update, they are smoothened.
    - All photos get a horrible yellowish tint
    - Photos taken with flash are completely yellowish
    The Nokia phones were known for their camera quality - Amber and Black destroyed this advantage completely.
    Restarting the phone, etc etc etc does not help and you should have known it by now.
    You guys at Nokia do not read what the customers are complaining about, or you think that we are just whining (rest assured, we are NOT WHINING without reason).
    We love Nokia too much to let it get spoiled by developers who do not want to listen to us.

  • C7 camera quality dropped .. Help

    i bought this nokia c7 n loved its camera .. the pictures video were amazing but then i left it for a few months n now wen im usig it again .. the camera quality has DROPPED drastically .. now it almost seems like a 2 mp cam .. and the pictures are always dull , colours are so dull and it seems like a picture from a 2 mp cam or something // what do i do ???     i updated to belle wenever it came out i dont know if it might be the reason since i read sme posts n ppl say it degraded thr cam .. but im not sure bcs i dont remember since wen exactly my cam's quality degreaded before or after that :/ ...
    pls suggest how i can improve the quality to wat it was before 

    its pictures are somewhat blur too.. as in if i zoom the picture then it becomes blur totally which it shouldnt at least to some extent cz its a 8 mp cam .. but the pictures become blur like they would if it was from a 2 mp cam

    still have problems with the E71 camera.
    camera screen is blank (i.e. dark screen)
    the corners of the square in the middle of the screen is showing
    the photo/video icon at the upper left corner of the screen is showing
    when the capture button is pressed, the options and exit link at the bottom corners of the screen, as well as the details on the upper right corner of the screen, flashes for a fraction of a second. nothing else happens. the camera doesnt capture.
    the menu from the right of the screen appears when activated.
    when scrolling down the icons, the descriptions scrolls out, however, when one goes down the list, the description of the next icon will scroll out, yet the description of the previous icon remains.
    in addition, the the text of the description is a little blurred because the letters has a sort of 'shadow' caused by a delay. the same is true with the 'cursor' (i.e. the navigation open square)
     choosing different options doesnt change anything.
    when one goes to the barcode scanner (of which no one can seem to make it work), before the message "Camera is in use by another application", and when one returns to the camera, the same message appears.
    so taking the instructions found here, one restarts the phone, yet the problem persists (i.e. blank screen) bt this time the message "Camera is in use..." doesnt appear in both camera and barcode scanner.
    furthermore, the phone would sometimes restart itself when one stays in the Camera feature long enough. plus the phone becomes slow when accessing either the camera or barcode scanner.
    one has updated to the latest firmware yet the problem remains.
    what is wrong with the phone? how can one fix it?
    to better demonstrate the problem, i will make a video showing the problem, upload in, say, youtube and put the link here so you can see it for yourself.
    if you have the solution please do tell and save evryone any trouble.

    Sorry huseyn, but these are really lame suggestions and not even worth posting imo. I customize the sh*t out of my phones and restoring factory settings and reformatting the mc is simply not acceptable in the blind *hope* that it'll fix what is obviously a bug that Nokia needs to take care of. No way am I going to lose - then spend again - all the hours I've put into individualizing my e71

  • E71 camera problems

    everytime I try to use my E71 camera, it tells that my "camera is in use by another application". What does that mean and how can I fix it so I can use my camera again?

    Ok. Home Screen can not be closed. That's fine. I suggest:
    1-First turn off the phone. Take out the battery and reinsert after 20 seconds. Turn on the phone and see if the camera is working or not.
    2- If it still not working, try "Reset to factory settings" by entering *#7780#. This will reset your phone to default settings (your data wont be lost). Now try to see if your camera is working.
    3- If still not working, make a backup of your phone data and then hard reset your phone (by entering *#7370#). All your data will be lost but no worries, you have the backup, right? The camera should work by now.
    4- If still not working, the camera is definitely faulty and should be returned to a Nokia dealer for replacement .

    Hi, I unlocked bootloader on my z2, after that I realize the Xreality mode not working, also the camera quality got worst. Is there a way to go back? I tried relocking the bootloader but got no luck. I may not need the xreality, but I really want the camera to be as good as before. Please help, thank you!

    I'm afraid it's not possible to go back. When you unlock the bootloader, the DRM keys are permanently deleted. This may affect advanced camera functionality as stated here: http://developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader/

  • Camera quality bad after Upgrade

    I had been fairly pleased with the upgrade to my phone until last night.  My camera quality is really grainy now.  Is there a fix or is this just something due to the upgrade.  That is really going to disappoint me because before the upgrade my camera took really great photos.
    Any advice is greatly appreciated.

  • Camera Quality Is Grainy!

    Well I just got the new itouch and the camera quality is very grainy. Both for the pictures and video. I don't know what's going on, but I know this is not HD quality. Can someone shine some light on this, cause I'm very disappointed and upset.

    yes it is grainy in low light conditions. and yes the cameras are different between the iphone 4 and ipod touch. the iphone 4 has 5.0 mega pixels and the ipod touch has 0.7 however the ipod can still take good photos with good lighting conditions. nevertheless, you should have looked into these details before you purchased an ipod touch. some people are suggesting a jailbreak to improve the quality but im no jailbreak fan. hope this helps

    Do you know why I bought 2 Lumia 925 units ?
    It is because I saw the photo quality on my friends Lumia 920 !
    Very sharp pictures with true colors - really incredibly good.
    My Lumia 925 units did however not offer the same quality.
    - My friends 920 did not have AMBER when I saw his pictures
    - My 925 came with Amber installed ex-factory
    My friends 920 got the AMBER update some time after I purchased my 925 units
    - And now he lost his picture quality too - AMBER degraded the picture quality !
    Now we both have the BLACK updates installed (on 920 and 925 units)
    The picture quality of the 920 prior to AMBER did not come back !
    Hence my questions:
    - What happened with camera/picture quality in the AMBER update ?
    - Can this dreadful degradation of picture quality be undone ? How ? When ? By whom ?
    Anyway, I cannot go on with my 925 units this way.
    I bought them because of the said Nokia/Camera quality which is absolutely not present.
    My guess is that something very wrongly changed in the jpg-processing of AMBER.

    Pre-Black the Camera  algorithms made for more saturated colours. While you say you perceived those as more real they are in fact not. It's much like a lot of people today when doing a blind test seem to still prefer the sound from vinyl records over CD because it's perceived warmer while it is in fact much more coloured.
    The current settings actually produce more natural and real colours. Since the JPGs are generally of fairly good quality you can use tools such as paint.net to adjust them more to your liking.
