E71 Contact search problem

My contact search function on E71 is ok, just that I can't call out 2 entries in contacts.
1) 1Jen
2) BJ
As these 2 names's second character is "J" it is also "#" and the first character are also with numbers. That is why the home screen showed
1) 1#
2) 8#
And it gave me the phone numbers which was the 1st and 8th stored on my SIM card contact.
I used to be able to call them without such problem. Only experience this today.
Does anyone know how to turn off SIM contact reading?
Rgds,
DB

Firstly, open up each contact in turn and select Options>Play voice tag - this will tell you how the phone interprets the name. As you are using abbreviations, the voice recognition system may be interpreting the text strangely.
It is also possible that the problemis caused by the shortness of the name. Often, it is better to have a full name (eg: Marcus de Bruyn) instead of a shorter form (eg: Marc) because when you say a name with more syllables you give the recognition system more data to work with in comparing with your contacts.

  • Nokia 5800 contacts search problem after phone swi...

Recently bought a new 5800. Used Phone Switch to retrieve contacts from older Nokia, seemed to work ok.
The problem is that ALL NEW contacts added to 5800 memory appear BELOW the contacts list (not sorted) AND cannot be found via contact search. This is very annoying. How can this be fixed?
    Thanks.

    It sometimes does this.
Unlock the phone, go into the messaging and come back out again.
The "new message" notification should stop now.

  • Treo 680: Typedown contacts search problem: can't find anything after S

I recently purchased an unlocked GSM Treo 680 to replace a stolen Treo 650 (which replaced a 600, which replaced another 600, etc.). I loaded all my data on to it. However, when I do a typedown search in Contacts, it refuses to find any entries which (alphabetically by last name) occur after my friend "Catherine Simmonds". Even if their first name begins with an earlier letter of the alphabet, it doesn't find them. I can reach their entries by doing a lot of scrolling in the full list, but no other way.
However, if I make a change of some sort to the contacts database, it does find them - for one search only. If I back up (delete a letter) on the search or cancel and do a new search, it stops being able to find them again. I've tried deleting some contacts, including the two either side of the "break", to see if they are corrupt in some way or if it's the number of contacts (I have about 420), but that doesn't seem to make a difference. At all times, I can find the contacts using the global search tool - although the 680 seems to have stopped the previous practice of starting global searches with the current database, which means it's often the second screen before the contact shows up.
I run Ubuntu Linux 8.04, and am using jpilot as my sync software.
To me, particularly given the intermittent nature of the thing and the ability to make it work temporarily by making changes to the Contacts database, this has all the marks of a software bug. Is it a known issue? Has anyone else seen it? Is there a fix?
I'm using software version TREO680-2.12-ROW, Firmware R01.92. Please let me know if there's more information I can provide.

What exactly do you mean by starting again?
Previously, I restored a backup and then synced to get all data since the backup. I could certainly do that again. But I don't want to go all the way back to the backup only, because I'd lose all the data between then and now.
jpilot, my sync software, won't let me sync on to a completely blank Treo. It tells me that I have to restore a backup first as a base. So I'm not sure if I'm able to restore the PIM data without restoring everything.
I think it's unlikely to be an incompatible application because the problem is with a shipped Palm app. But you know more about Palm OS than me.
But I'll have a play around and let you know how far I get.

  • Contacts Search Problem E90

I have spent much time reading previous messages on the forum.
Can someone please tell us when the problem is likely to be addressed. The new firmware has been released and does not pay any attention to this particular problem.
Will we have to continue using the long drawn process of searching from office in the meanwhile?
Can someone from Nokia address the issue please, or recomend some alternate faster software like the one in the 9300, which allows you to search anything from the contacts database?

Last week a new SW version appeared for a short time on the Nokia Server...Then Nokia withdrew it with no explanation.
    /discussions/board/message?board.id=communicators&thread.id=18023
One of the first question that was asked when this new SW appeared was.."Has the search function been improved?"
    The answer was.."no change!"
One might hope that when the new SW is release it will address this weakness.
I have to admit that I do not know whether the obvious shotcomings in the "search facities" is a resultof Symbian s 60.3 short coming or Nokia SW design..or a combination of the two.
Nokia produced this application but in my opinion it only helps a bit and is not a full solution.

  • 6230i Contact search problem(Sim related issue?)

    Hello
I have purchased a Nokia mobile phone model number 6230i.I have a query to clarify. While I am searching a contact in my phone book I could not find out the exact contact name.
    for example:
I have a contact 'Johny' in my sim. While I am searching for this cotact by typing 'JO' the phone shows 'no match'. I feel the problem is with the case sensitivity of the name. ie. If the name is saved as 'JOHNY' I could simply locate the name by typing 'JO' in the edit box. But the same model phone with my friend doesn't has this problem and it works
    fine.
I heard it is a sim card related issue. If so can I solve this problem by a software update?
    Dinraj Nair.

    Hi,
If this is a problem with your sim card, then I dont think it can be fixed by a software upgrade (as there is nothing to upgrade on a Simcard apart from hardware). My 6230i doesnt have this problem.
You can get cheap simcards now, and your operator should be able to transfer your number to the new card.

  • Nokia 2730 Contact search problem

Nokia 2730, having trouble searching for contacts, it will only let me search by their first name, anything else is irrelivant.
ie; if I have a contact called 'Bob Smith' and I search for 'Smith' it will not show up.
I think I need this function as I am constantly sending group for organising sporting teams.
I believe I have the lastest software in the phone, brand new out of the box I used Nokia Ovi Suite to try and update it, it said there were no updates available.

Some ammendment in chanchan05's first post..
In case of S40 phones.. under Contacts settings-->Name display..If 'Last Name First' is selected..then the search is on LAST NAME..but yes, with a corresponding setting it will either search on First Name or Last Name at one time and not have the search functionality of an S60..
@wigwam - Can you explain your problem a bit more ? What comes up when you type 'M' ?..and is it a One Off issue or happens with search for any other contact (e.g. you have a contact called Jimmy and when you type 'J' it doesn't bring his name up)?

  • Nokia 701 Contact Search Problem

    Hi!
I recently formatted my Nokia 701 using code *#0000#
Now when I search for a contact in the search list, it uses the regular keypad (as used during message typing) Instead of the alphabetic keys..

To turn the keypad into qwerty keypad, follow these steps:
Go to Settings>Phone>Language>Writing Language>tap on the language that has a check mark on it (example: English)>Input style for portrait>Qwerty

  • E52 Contact search entry problem arising after lat...

Press the Contact button once, the Contact list screen shows up.  At the bottom of the screen is the search bar.  When I press any of the alpha-numeric keys, the alphabet (or number depending on how many times I press the same key) appears momentarily but disappears within less than a second.  So now I CANNOT do a search.  I have to scroll up or down!
I've since tried multiple things:  re-boot phone several times, take out sim card + mem card and then do software reset, re-install the firmware under Ovi Suite's Software Update menu option.  None help so far.
    Can someone help please?

    peteralmere,
Answers to your questions are no to all.  But I don't see why such legitimate usages (off phone overnight, batt out > 25min) should/can mess contact search.  This simply should not happen in any phone, even the cheapest entry level phone.
Is 2 contacts too many to have ?  As I mentioned, it did't work even with just 2 entries (all entered in English) in my experiment.
It's a firmware issue that the E52 firmware development team messed up and their validation team missed.  Not the issue of how I use my phone or how many contacts I've got.

  • E71 Contacts Management

    Hi folks,
Just purchased an E71. Very surprised that I cannot browse my contacts by company name, or order them by company name. This is supposed to be a business tool, which means working with companies! I have over 4000 contacts to manage/view, all held in Outlook and sync through PC Suite.
I must have missed a configuration option somewhere?
Anyone out there know how this can be fixed.
    Cheers
    Bandolier

I had this problem with the Nokia E90 and found a fix on the discussion boards as reprinted below:
"The contacts search in Nokia E90 is based on first and last name only.
You may want to consider installing "Nokia search". It's an application that will search your phone contents, including your contacts.
    http://europe.nokia.com/A4568514"
The fix works, the search is quick, and you can search ANY part of the contact card. However the programme runs separately on the phone and you have to access it first.I guess the fix will work with the E71 as it runs on Symbian 60 like the E90 does. Having said this, there are other contacts management problems with Series 60 phones which I have not found a fix for and which mean I am currently still using my old 9300 Communicator (Symbian 80) until Nokia solves the problems.

  • HT1692 I use an iPhone 5, and want to sync my phone calendar and contacts with Outlook 7 calendar and contacts; twpo problems--I now get dozens of new calendars every time, and my calendar will not syncd at all.; meaning that date entries on Outlook do no

I use an iPhone 5, and want to sync my phone calendar and contacts with Outlook 7 calendar and contacts; two problems--I now get dozens of new calendars every time, and my outlook calendar will not sync at all.; meaning that date entries on Outlook do not come across ot iPhone.

It is unusual for the calendar to sync and not the contacts in Outlook. I've worked with Outlook for years. You didn't answer what computer OS you are using. If it is Windows, have you tried to reset the sync history in iTunes? Do that by opening iTunes, go to Edit>Preferences>Devices and click on reset sync history. If you have done this and it doesn't help, then we can try and run scanpst.exe on your Outlook file and see if there are any errors. Search your computer for that file, however it normally resides in one of the Microsoft Office folders in the folder Program files. After that, you can see if it will sync.

  • (GPS) coordinates in Contacts interoperability problem with Maps

I have noticed that using lat/long coordinates works fine in Maps to search for addresses with nameless streets. The address can also be added to a contact. When trying to locate an address from Contacts a problem is that Contacts always add the country to the coordinates and Maps doesn't like that.
If I search for "59.871859,17.527034" in Maps, it takes me to a nameless road in Uppsala, Sweden. I can then add that address to a contact, and the address becomes "+59°52'18.69", +17°31'37.32". When I later press this address in Contacts it appends a seemingly random country to the address, so in my case the address becomes "+59°52'18.69", +17°31'37.32 United States", which Maps doesn't like. If I manually delete the country part in Maps and search again it works fine. The strange thing is that if I edit the address the country is set to Sweden.
Is there a way to have Contacts not add the country to the address it feeds to Maps?
I'm using 1.1.3 firmware in my 16G touch btw.

I forgot to mention that when I choose a destination it keeps saying Calculating route all the time. I waited about 15 minutesand it didn't calculate anything.

  • 808 Pureview contact search not working

Hi, i am unable to get contact search to work even after enabling it on the call screen. adaptive search under settings has also been turned on. can someone help?

Try the soft reset and if that does not help, do a hard reset. But remember to back up your device with Nokia suite.
    Hard Reset:
Once backed up, enter *#7370# and when prompted, enter 12345 as the default passcode.
    Hope this helps.

  • Contact search process

    Hello All,
I am trying to understand the process of contact search.
Is it correct that the normal behavior would be:
    - search in Lync adress book (by default in local GalContacts.db)
    - search in Exchange GAL (via EWS)
    - search for personal contacts on Exchange (via EWS)
and then do a merge of these?
And should the filters applied via ABSconfig also apply to contacts found via Exchange GAL (in my situation that doesn't seem to be the case...)?
I am also seeing a different behavior on Lync 2013 (15.0.4711.1002) and Lync for Mac (14.0.11). Is it possible that Lync for Mac doesn't look in Exchange GAL when doing a search?
Thanks in advance for the reponses, I am quite confused regarding this whole search process and cannot find much information about it.
    Gael

I stand corrected. I just read this technet article, https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg429711%28v=ocs.15%29.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396
It seems Lync 2013 gives you results for users that are not SIP enabled as well. It can be changed though. Check the above article on how to limit your search to only SIP enabled users.
"While having full contact records in the Address Book files enables you to use Lync Server to initiate email, telephone,
or Enterprise Voice calls (that is, if Enterprise Voice is enabled on the server) with users that are not configured for Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), some organizations prefer to include only SIP-enabled users in their Address Book Server entries."
