E71 Data Connection Never Drops to On-Hold

Morning all,
I've just changed from an N95 to E71 and have a funny problem which I noticed while using mail for exchange.
When the peak profile in mail for exchange is set to always on obviously it holds the data connection open for the e-mail push to work.  When using mail for exchange like this on the N95 if I was to get a call the data connection would pause, my phone would ring, and then the data would resume.  With my new E71 it doesn't pause the data connection and drops the call straight to voicemail.
Is there anything I can do to make my E71 behave like my N95 did or am I stuck retrieving e-mails after a time duration?
Thanks in advance for any help,
Will

Hmmm it could be bad hardware, it might be worth trying it in a known area of good coverage.
The other thing you could do is possibly check that your APN etc in the Packet Data Settings is correct.
You might have a mis configured setting thats causing it to fail.

That page, allows you to resend your network settings to your phone.
Its a pretty easy wizard process to send them to your phone.

  • HTC ERIS randomly Drops data connectivity after 2.1 OTA

I am about to receive my 3rd HTC Eris under warrany that I am told will help my problem, before the 2.1 upgrade I no problems with data connectivity dropping. My 1st phone randomly displayed message saying "The MObile network setting needs to be turned on. The 2nd replacement phone does the same thing at random all over Phoenix.
Verizon said they have never heard of this problem and there have been no issues with the 2.1 upgrade..so far that is the story from 2 reps. My 3rd replacement phone is on its way...will it fix my problem?? Tried to get them to replace the phone with a nother model but they would only do it at full retail price....wow I use this for business and it is costing me money......If this doesn't fix it I guess I'll keep asking for replacement phones till it finally works properly again......
A very unhappy HTC Eris user...

Hi.  I am sorry you are having issues with your HTC Eris and I will be happy to look into this for you.  When did you get the 2.1 update?   Try to dial *228 option 2 to update your roaming to see if that helps.  If it does not, we may need to reset your entire device to see if that works.
    Waiting on your reply
    Thanks!

  • E71 Firmware Upgrage (200...) data connection / Ma...

Since upgrading the firmware on my E71 the data connection using either 3G or GPRS has become very unstable. This has made syncing Mail for Exchange a nightmare! Took 3 hours for it to update all the contacts, (there was 615 of them), and when in 'always on' mode it's continually dropping the connection.
Have tried reinstalling both the firmware and MfE, and has made no difference to the stability. Running MfE 2.7.0.
When going into the 'Download' folder it's also dropping the data connection which means the information has not yet been able to update.
Anyone else with the same problem?

    OK, here it is -
     - All Internet connections working fine before update (3G/Wifi)
    - Used NSS - flashed E71 to generic Euro version so i can get update ver.400.21.013,instead of ver. 300.21.012
    -  Successful, All Internet connections working fine after NSS flashinge (3G/Wifi)
    - Started up NSU to begin update. Update done successfully
    - Internet connections NOT working anymore(3G/Wifi)
    - Redid update, and restore without "Settings", PC hung, update not sompleted, Phone refused to start.
    - Did 3 fingered trick, phone back to life.
    - Redid update with NSU - Completed successsfuly
    - Did restore - minus Settings
    - 3G and Wifi not working
    - Did reset  *#7780#  , and did restore again - minus settings/memory card. Still no joy
    - Did reset *#7370# and restore minus settings/memeory card. Still not working
    - Did reset (three fingered trick) and restore minus settings/memory card.
    - Somewhere along the way, GPRS/3G working, but not Wifi.
    - Initially getting  "gateway not found", now "Wlan not found" errors msg
    - Formated card, wiped phone memory clean, deleted all apps
    - Tried ALL permutations of resets, without restore - Still not working
    - Tried ALL permutations of resets, without restore - minus Sim and Memory card - Still not working
    - Tried to re-do update with NSU. NSU says i have the most recent update, no further options
    - Changed WLAN to "No security", used WLAN wizard - Still not working
    - Changed WLAN to "No security", entered settings manually - Still not working
I have reset this phone in alll the diff reste permutations and entered the HEX key over 50 times now, and its still not working. Every other device is connected apart from the E71!!

  • 4G Connected then dropped back to 3G never  to return...

I have been a paitently watiing for over 6 months now for 4G. The VZW rep told me by the end of the year for 4G to be availabe in the Utica NY area. I did some research online and found that Utica was scheduled for 4G coverage by the end of 2011.
Now yesterday morning 11/21/11 around 9:30, I looked at my phone and realized it said 4GLTE and I did a double take, and realized it actually said 4G, now, for my first time ever being able to use it I got really excited. I played a little, downloaded some files, super fast! Even did a speedtest on it and it blew my 3G speeds away as expected!
About 10 minutes later the connection dropped and went back to 3G, then came right back to 4G, then the phone dropped all data connection, went to 1X back to 3G then back to 4G where it held for almost an hour.
After about an hour, it dropped again returned to 3G and it never connected to 4G again. I thought maybe it was the phone, so I did a reboot, and went into airplane mode, back out, and still nothing, only 3G
Now I know that there is no way I connected to a tower that had 4G that is not in the Utica area, the closest tower with 4G near Utica is in Syracuse over 60 Miles away.
So there had to be a tower or towers in the Utica area that had the 4G siginal up for a little while.
Is it possible that VZW was testing the 4G service to get ready for its launch in the area? Or maybe it was a mistake?
Could it mean that it's going to launch in the area soon?
Over the past few months, VZW customers in the area have exirenced lots of call drops and 3G data drop outs, which is uncommon for this area, VZW is always reliable and never drops calls (atleast in this area), some reps said it was due to 4G upgrades on the towers. Is that a true statement?
I know there's a lot of questions here but I'm really curious as to when we'll see a solid 4G coverage in my area!
    I really want 4G!
    Thanks in advance!
    -Mike

Both of the problems you just described is the power saving features built into the phones software. I think I posted this on your post already? haha but anyways, the switch from 3G to 4G or 4G to 3G is probably just causing the software to just get confused basically and shut off the Data connection all together to save battery, it will automatically turn itself back on later when the correct amount of time has passed, every phone is different so I can't really say when lol. But, when in WiFi to save battery and to keep your data usage down some phones will shut the data connection off and rely on the WiFi connection, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.
The software is supposed to be designed to turn it all back on when receiving a MMS message or when the WiFi connection is terminated, but this isn't always the case.
Verizon's version of the Droid software still had bugs that need to be taken care of :/
This is why Custom ROM's become peoples best friends because most issues that are addressed are taken care of very quickly, most of the time anyways.
And you're going back a little ways there lol, but still it would all probably still look exactly the same to use as it did 15 years ago, it really hasn't changed that much, same old same old here, its like this place is stuck in a giant rut that it can't get out of haha

  • Severe increase in dropped calls, loss of data connection since updating

I was hoping to find some people who are experiencing the same problem as me. Since upgrading to 3.0 on Thursday morning, I am dropping every single call I am on. I have full bars and the 3G icon. It never even wavers when the call drops, it'll just drop and say call failed.
I also have no data connection 90% of the time i've tried to use it. Apps like Weather don't update and just time out while trying to update.
The whole time I have supposedly full service.
I can't imagine it is a hardware issue since I have used it extensively in the past week while out of town. The only thing that has changed is installing 3.0.
Has anyone else come across this problem?? I can't be the only one if it's software related.

Have you done a hard boot since installing 3.0?
Also, Yahoo has had server problems which is affecting the default iPhone Weather and Stocks apps. That may be the issue regarding your connection problems.

  • IPhone 5 dropping data connection

iPhone 5 bought new on release day.  Have been having issues with data not connecting and dropping of LTE. I do have solid LTE coverage here in Detroit, I live north of town. I have 32gig black and my wife has 16gig white and she does not lose data or LTE. This is a reoccurring issue. I have already restored the phone once and it still has same issue. I have read that others have same issue. Do we all have lemons? Is apple aware and will they do anything? Or do I have to get a replacement phone?

Sorry for thinking that whole subject heading on the question would have directed you to my question. Let me be more clear on this.
How can I stop my phone from randomly dropping the data connection to my provider. I have already tried doing a backup and restore. I have gone through the other mentioned steps (disabling the cellular network location service, backup & restore, tried going to airplane mode and disabling). The only thing that has restored data connection is rebooting the phone. At no time does the phone indicate any data connection loose. The "4G" icon is still on the status bar, going from wifi to cellular network does not resolve the issue (the wifi network works, but when disabled, there is no data) The phone does not go to EDGE, or no data connection, it continues to show 4G. Other people with at&t 3 ft from me continue to have service. So far there is no difference in location of the phone, it happens at home, at work, at different friends houses, and sometimes not at all. However each day I am having to reboot my phone, sometimes 4 times a day just to use the data features.

  • N97 packet data connection on hold

Good day,I have a N97 with an unlimited data plan. But I´m having a problem, when I receive or make call or send text message my phone show this message “packet data connection on hold”, and when I finish the call or sent the text message the phone shows  “Packet data connection active”. There is any way that I can change this? I want to have my data connection always active. Thanks in advance for your help
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

you would have to go into the settings - connectivity- the first tab is network - select this and it tells you network mode, select this and you can set it to dual mode - umts or gms only mode. if your phone was made for your region and it supports the frequency that the network provides then it should work in 3g if it does not which is possible then it will only work on edge

  • E71 hanging Data connection after automatic email ...

    Hello all,
My E71 seems to suffer from hanging Data Packet Connection after automatic email retreival.
So I configured my email IMAP4 retreival and set it to automatic retreival every 15 minutes.
Then after a few hours I check my phone and there is a data connection open and active. If I check the connections it is open for a few hours, sucking my battery.
What should I do to make it automatically disconnect after email retreival?
PS: I configured my packet data settings with "Data Packet connection only when needed"
    Regards,
    Menno

I found the only solution is to set the frequency of update to more than 30 minutes. This really is a problem since the next interval is 2 hours, not 1 hour like in other nokia devices. I don't believe that my nokia N series had this problem, either.
This is a SIGNIFICANT issue that needs to be fixed by nokia considering they want the e71 to be messaging/email device. It is very annoying to have to be prompted to close the data packet connection to do anything; i.e. make calls, use google maps, etc. Checking e-mails only once every 2 hours is obviously not a solution either.
    Get on the ball nokia!

  • E71 Wireless Data Connection

Hi, does anyone know the setup details for a wireless data connection for the E71 on the O2 network.
I would like to pair my E71 to my TomTom GO 530. The E71 is currently unsupported by the Go 53o but you have the option to pair other phones. I need the O2 access point details, username, password and DNS settings.
TomTom give default settings on their support pages but these do not work on my phone/TomTom GO 530.
    Any advice would be welcome.

    B.
Thanks for your reply as it provides some helpful ideas and confirms that my issue is not totally unique.  However you are describe an isssue with wifi where as I do not seem to have the problem there.  My home wifi network connection seems stable.  I encounter the problem whith my phone companies wireless data connection.  More interestingly (although I need to do more testing to be absolutely certain) is that it appears that when I loose my abilityt to receive data I do NOT loose voice capability.
As a specific example.  I am surfing the internet in front of my house (not on my home network however) and get in the car to drive ten blocks to the grocery store.  I get there and can't remember the groceries I was to buy so I attempt to check the recipe on-line but can get no connection to surf.  I can however call home to ask or (to save a lecture) I could also turn airplane mode on and off and that would re-establish my data connection to my phone company.
It feels like if I could do what you have done for your home connection - only on at a provder level - all would be good.
    Thanks for your help.

  • E71 disable data connections on roaming

is there a system setting or recommended application to disable data connections in roaming?
on my other phone running android there is a switch on the menu and on top of that there is a switch app which disconnects connections and changes apn to prevent reconnecting.
I'm looking for similar solution for nokia e71... thanks!

i know about that but I do not want to be going to every application and making sure that it is configured not to use data...
I want global system setting which cuts out internet connection.
On android there is a nice program called apndroid which changes apn url temporarily and reverts back to original when you run it again.
I'm not familiar with programming on symbian but is there API access to apn settings so it could be changed by a script or software?

  • Inability to restart a mail download broken due to data connection drop

I am facing problem in viewing attachments if the Mobile Data connection or the WiFi connection breaks in between the downloading of the mail attachment. The mail I am referring to is a direct email with attachments sent to my email address by a sender.
I am not expecting the iPhone to display the attachment without downloading the attachment, obviously. However, if the attachment download is interrupted due to break in data connection, I am not able to restore the download of the remaining part of the attachment later, even if the data connection is re-established subsequently.
In this situation when the data connection has been broken and the attachment has not been completely downloaded, if I click on the attachment, a window opens stating the attachment has not been downloaded. This attachment does not get downloaded even if I drag the attachment window down to refresh the content. I have also tried to mark the mail as unread and then reopening it to see if the attachment starts to download afresh- but nothing happens and the attachment does not start downloading nor it continues from the point of break. I have also tried to force close the mail app and then start the mail app again to reopen the particular mail and then clicking the mail attachment- but again failed to start the attachment download either afresh or from the point it had broken.
When i force close the App and reopened it and the particular mail, the pie chart on the attachment did not appear- both with as well as without clicking on the attachment. In this situation if we click on the attachment it again opens the same blank window of the attachment with text inside the window stating that the attachment has not been downloaded.
The same problem (inability to restore broken attachment download upon restoration of data connection) also happens if the data connection breaks while the email is open and the attachment is being downloaded (the attachment appears as a pie chart with increasingly shaded area indicating the progressive download of the attachment).
This problem occurs with both iCloud as well as Gmail mail accounts. The problem also continues even if i reset iPhone by pressing both Home and Power button simultaneously to get the Apple logo on the screen.
To clarify, the issue is not that the phone starts download while the data connection is down. Rather, the data connection breaks while the download is already continuing.
The above scenario basically prevents you from viewing the attachment if for once the data connection has been broken while the attachment is in the process of being downloaded.
But if I open the app after some time, and then reopen the mail it often happens that the attachment automatically downloads itself. ( i have not been able to quantify or assess the time span after which this happens).
The problem also happens in the case of viewing an email which has not been downloaded completely but the data connection breaks in between.
It has been happening since the beginning of my purchase of iPhone, but i have chosen to stop tolerating the problem recently and have thus highlighted it to you. This problem occurs with all types of attachments-pdf, word etc. It also behaves in similar manner in the case of main email content.
Kindly advise on how to ensure that in case a download of the attachment is broken due to break in data connection, the download of the attachment is resumed after the data connection is restored. There must be ways to make that email as a new email and then download the complete email alongwith the attachments afresh after the connection is established afresh in due course.
It is to reiterate and repeat once again what was discussed that the problem being highlighted is not that the download gets broken on network disruption. Instead the problem is that the download is not restored (nor restarted) after restoration of the network.
I understand and appreciate that download cannot happen without network and that the break in download upon network break is expected behaviour.
However, the inability to restore download after network restore is not expected behaviour.
This issue is independent of the type of network - WiFi or Cellular.
I want to address the issue of inability to restore/ restart download upon network restore.

I agree that data connection should be reliable.
However, what I am expecting is that the behaviour of the iPhone Mail client should be made similar to that on a Desktop PC, like Outlook.
In other words, if we refresh the mail content by dragging the open window down it should actually refresh the full content including the attachments, even if it has been downloaded - in part or in full.

  • Very slow broadband and connection keeps dropping

Hello, we have been BT customers since August 2013, after previously being Freeola customers for many years.  We live in a very rural area, at the end of the exchange so we are never going to get amazingly fast broadband, we are estimated 1MB.
Previously using Speedtest.net at the beginning of the year we were getting 0.9Mbps, then in May our internet dropped and we couldn't get a proper connection or speed.  We contacted Freeola who after doing some tests, said that we had a copper line failure and to contact BT.  We did this and the copper line failure issue was fixed, an openreach engineer tested the line and we assumed all was fine.  But we were still getting very slow speeds and the connection kept dropping.  So we decided to switch to BT in August, we have put up with the slow speeds and dropping connection for 3 months hoping in vain that once we got a stable line the speed would increase and we would be back to were we expected to be.
When we are using the internet, we very often get "Your connection has been reset" errors within our browsers.
This has not happened, so I have decided to come on to this forum in the hope that we can solve this issue before my hair gets any greyer.  We have a BT Home Hub 4 so we have not got all the stats that previous HH had available.
Also as we are in a rural area our telephone connection is through overhead cables and as said previously we are at the end of the exchange.
Please see below for the information that I have been able to get:
    Home hub stats:
    17:28:52, 28 Oct. ( 68.040000) DSL noise margin: 12.00 dB upstream, 9.50 dB downstream
    17:28:51, 28 Oct. ( 67.970000) DSL line rate: 448 Kbps upstream, 192 Kbps downstream

    Connection Information
    Connection time:

    Bt Wholesale Broadband test:
    Download Speed: 0.02
    Upload speed: 0.34
    Ping latency: 0.00
    Further diagnostics:

I performed the quiet line test which wasn't too bad there was a very slight crackle, but it was with a wireless phone.
    Speedtest.net results:
    Ping: 463ms
    Download:0.13mbps
    Upload: 0.28mbps
As said previously before the copper line failure we were regularly getting download speeds of 0.9mbps.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi jacoma,
Sorry to hear that your  having issues with your BT Retail services.
You will either be on the ADSLMax (upto 8mbps) service or if your exchange has been BTw 21cn upgraded you maybe on the ADSL2/2+ (upto 12/20mbps) service depending on your line quality and length.
However these upto speeds may not be the speeds you will get as ADSL broadband connections are very dependent on the distance from your property to the exchange and the quality of your line. The further away you are from your local exchange the slower your broadband speed will be.
To enable the community to help you please see the advice below:
Please see Keith's help guide here: Helping forum members to help you, it will go through some checks that are needed for us to help you.
    1) Are you in the TEST socket? if not can you please connect to the test socket and repeat steps 2, 3 and 4.
All the below performed in TEST Socket:
    2) is there any noise on your line. dial 17070 option2 ,called quite line test, from landline phone. should be silent but slight hum normal on cordless phone.
If there is any noise on your line such as crackling, distictive noise when the phone is connected to the TEST socket and doing the quiet line test then you need to report a line fault to BT Retail by dailling 151. Once the crackling or disticive noise has gone then your broadband should slowly recover.
    3) please post adsl line statistics
    4) Can you please run a BT speed test (including IP Profile) http://speedtest.btwholesale.com (not beta version)[Best done with a wired, Ethernet, connection] After Quick Test is done you need to click "Further Diagnostics" to get IP Profile.
    ADSL Line Statistic Help:
If you have a BT Home Hub like the one below...
     Then:
     1) Go to http://192.168.1.254 or http://bthomehub.home
     2) click Settings
     3) Click Advanced Settings
     4) Click Broadband
     5) Click Connection or sometimes called ADSL (see picture Below)
The direct Address is http://bthomehub.home/index.cgi?active_page=9116 (for bthomehub3.A firmware ending in 1.3)
or http://bthomehub.home/index.cgi?active_page=9118 (for bthomehub3.A firmware ending in 94.1.11)
You will need to copy and past all the adsl line statistics ( Including HEC, CRC and FEC errors). You may need to click " More Details"
If you have a HomeHub 4 then the majority of the ADSL Stats shown in the previous Hubs will not be there.
for HH4 users you can go to hub manager then select troubleshooting then logs and are look for 2 entries together which will show theconnection speed and noise margin for when your HH4 last sycned with the exchange.
There are more useful links on Keith's website here: If you have an ADSL connection, please select this link

  • E72-Packet Data connection message when answering ...

I get the following message when I dial or answer the phone: "Packet Data Connection on hold".
When I hang up I get: "Packet Data Connection active".
First of all, I don't know what packet data connection means nor do I have a need to know as long as the E72 works, which it does.
How do I get rid of these stupid messages?
    Thank You!

Look for the usual suspects as Nokia Messaging, Mail for Exchange, etc... that run in the background and need a connection. But if you don't want to know I'm not telling you.

  • Droid DNA Mobile Data Connectivity Issues

I have the HTC Droid DNA, about 6 weeks old, and for some reason my phone has randomly started to lose connection to mobile data. I've never dropped it or spilled anything on it, so I don't understand why this is happening. I've tried turning my phone off and on again, changing the preffered network to global and back to LTE, and removing and re-inserting the SIM card..but it still randomly happens. My phone can be fine for a week and then it will randomly just disconnect from mobile data again.
My first question is why do I pay for this when I have to sometimes wait for more than an hour for mobile data to come back? My second question is does anybody else with the DNA get this problem? I realize that when you have Wi Fi activated it would automatically disconnect you; however, this isn't related to my issue. I've turned Wi Fi off and that's when I get the mobile data disconnected issue. This HAS to be corrected. I'm not paying over $100 a month for data when I can't even use it when I need to.
