E71 Device Firmware Update Failure

I'm amazed at how Nokia puts out updater software and updates that DON'T WORK!  Case in point:
E71-2, using currently upgraded PC Suite and Software Updater programs.  Updater says I currently have firmware 100.07.76 and is attempting to update to firmware 200.21.118.  It gets to the 12 minute to go mark and sits there for an hour without doing a thing, other than connecting and disconnecting the phone, over and over.
Nokia offers NO ability to "step" your updates.  It's just a huge jump to the newest one, which doesn't work!  Palm never gave me this sort of headache.  Anyone else going through this?

That means that USB2 port is not compatible with the iPod?
I don't think so. More along the lines that the iPod is not USB 2.0 compliant, or properly certified, or it has a bug somewhere.
Basicly if a device is USB 2.0 compliant, it will work with a USB 1.1 port, just very slowly.
from www.usb.org, if a "device" has passed the certification and has earned the proper "High Speed USB" logo http://www.usb.org/developers/compliance/logo/usbhs125.gif it also HAS to work with a USB 1.0 port otherwise it won't earn the logo.
Now, this begs the question... has the iPod passed it's tests and earned it's High Speed USB certification logo? I can't find any of Apples products that have the logo, can someone point me to them?

You can find some good information about USB at www.usb.org. Specificly that it is no longer refered to as USB 2.0, but as "High Speed USB" (just semantics)

  • "Firmware Update Failure", please help

Okay so my brand new 20GB iPod photo refuses to have the systems software loaded onto it, everytime I try and use the iPod Updater (yes I have the newest version) it says: "Firmware Update Failure. Disk write error." I've got it connected with USB 2.0, it shows up as a removable storage device in my computer but doesn't show up at all in iTunes.
So if any of you know what's going on please give me a hand.

  • Does anyone know how to solve: "Firmware update failure. Disk write error"?

    Hi all,
Here is the list of all what went wrong and where I am now:
    1. My Ipod worked well
    2. I wanted to update it, you know, the normal thing with Itunes
    3. Every time I tried, my computer froze. I was unable to add only one song (both automatically and manually).
    4. I took my external drive (where my music is) at work and tried again: same result.
    5. I decided to run the Updater I have on the CD that came with the Ipod.(2005-02-07; I usually avoid the newer version, having had once a problem when putting a newer version of Updater).
    6. The Updater was unable to operate any action on my Ipode (I don't remember the messages now).
    7. Like I tried what I describe here above like a hundred time. I decided to format the Ipod with Windows (My Computer, right click on the Ipod, format).
    8. It did and now I have only the famous folder with an exclamation mark on my Ipod.
    9. Now when I am running the Updater, it says it cannot Restore the factory settings giving this message "Firmware update failure. Disk write error".
I would appreciate any help because, during the last 2 hours, I read and tried all I found on the Support Help here on the Apple web side without any result yet.
Thank a lot for your answer

  • FOUND SOLUTION TO: "Firmware Update Failure.Diskwrite Error"

I have found a solution to the:
    "FIRMWARE UPDATE FAILURE. DISKWRITE ERROR."
Last night i re-encoded my mp3's to 128kbs, and then plugged my iPod Shuffle in, and it went crazy... i tried restoring and it kept giving me the error above!
Anyways, here's a solution (that may require to be tried a couple of times)...
If you keep getting this error, go to My Computer, then right click the iPod (maybe called "Removable Storage").
Go to Format... and make sure its set at FAT32. Also make sure that "Quick Format" is unticked.
Once this is done. Eject it. Plug it into another USB slot, and go to iPod Updater and restore. It should work.
And then rename the ipod thru iTunes, and upload ur music on to it!
    Enjoy and Good luck!

So are there any risks involved in formatting with windows?
I just tried doing this and it won't format (I select the option but there is no response)

  • Getting "Firmware Update Failure" when restoring

My ipod mini kept giving me the folder and exclamation point icon and resetting didn't work to make it stop. I tried a few times to restore, but it keeps giving me the message "Firmware Update Failure. Disk Write Error" whenever I try to restore. Now what do I do? My ipod still just gives me the folder icon.

A couple of tricks to try:
    1) Plug in whatever was last connected (charger, peripheral) and then try rebooting. Sometimes it just wants to see the last config
    2) Try mounting on PC as USB drive (may take multiple tries). If successful, then REFORMAT just like an external HD.
At that point, you can "start over" with iPod update.

  • Restore fails with "Firmware update failure. Disk write Error" message

I am going totally bonkers with this one. My Shuffle stopped working suddenly.
My iTunes was not able to read the contents of the iPOD and there seems to be a corrupt filesystem. After reviewing various posts, I have tried the following with little success:
    1. Tried Restore using the Updater tool that came with the Shuffle (2005-09-23). I kept getting the "Firmware update failure. Disk write Error"
    2. Downloaded the new updater tool (2006-03-23) and tried restore again. I got the same error message again.
    3. Tried formatting using Windows format, it is not able to complete the format
    4. Tried chkdsk. Get an error message saying "CHKDSK is not available for RAW drives."
    5. Tried connecting it to a different computer and tried pretty much the same steps. Similar results.
I am using USB 2.0 both on my current Thinkpad as well as the other computer I tried with.
I am totally clueless and am not sure how to go about fixing this one. Though there have been lots of posts about this, I haven't been able to find a solution that works for me. Any thing else that I may have missed out which I can try?
    Thanks,
    Kris

    hiya!
just checking. have you worked through the possibilities from this document yet?
"Disk cannot be read from or written to" when syncing iPod or "Firmware update failure" error when updating or restoring iPod
given that you're connecting to a laptop, we'd better check on this possibility too:
iPod not recognized when connected to Windows laptop over USB
... and even though you aren't using a Toshiba, this technique might be worth a try (if all else fails):
iPod not recognized correctly on Toshiba laptop

  • E71 - No firmware updates for product code 0569116...

I'v had an E71 for three months already. In this time two firmware updates have been released for the E71 (in general) but not for my specific product code. It cannot be a regional thing as other E71's in same region as me have gotten the most recent updates.
Also, network operator says it is not with them but that firmware needs to be released by Nokia.
This makes me very unhappy. Had the N73 before and frequently got the firmware updates.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Thanks Mbamg
Thats how I understand the process to work as well, but it seems this is not the view of the operator (Vodacom, btw also South African)
According to this post in another forum http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=153716&page=3
Vodacom phones are not being updated but MTN phones are, though from what is written, it seems that Nokia themselves are unsure, first stating the firmware is only for european models, though unable to comment on why other South African model (MTN ones) are in fact being updated. At the very least, it seems that there is no version for Vodacom to test/release yet.

  • N73 firmware update failure!

    Hello,
I'm currently using firmware version 3.0704.1.0.1 and I'm like to update this firmware with the latest verison of firmware which is 4.x.xxx.x.x.x. I constantly get an error when I'm trying to install the latest version of firmware.
The message that I get is shown on this screenshot.
    http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/1733/nokiadisconnectingpeopl.jpg
Keep in mind, that I have formated the Nokia N73 several times, but it simply doesn't work during the update. So I don't have any non-commercial software installed on it at all. Unless I got a virus or something.

  • Megastick 256 firmware update failure (USB 2.0 version)

When I update the firmware of my Megastick 256 (the new "silver" USB 2.0 version), it would not turn on  anymore and seems completely dead. I can "revive" it by removing the battery and connecting it while the "Play" button is pressed and "downgrade" to the firmware version from the included CD (version 2.000.008). I would like to update to 2.011.002, 2.100.000 or 3.000.013, but all of them turn the stick into a dead brick. My computer only has USB 1.1, but I don't think this is the problem.
Ths update utility tells me that my stick has "chip version" 3500.
Another problem is that the firmware update utility will report a timeout when I connect the stick with pressed "Play" button, and the firmware version present in the "msi-5112" directory is not 2.000.008. I can only update by connecting the stick normally.
Has anyone managed to update the firmware of the new revision of the Megastick? If so, how exactly did you go about it?
    Thanks in advance

    - Do you also have the USB 2.0 version of the stick?
      it is usb 1.1
    - Does your computer support USB 2.0?
      yes
    - How exactly did you do the update (when did you press "Play"?).
Held play down, plugged into computer, kept holding play
       until recover device was visible.
Copied and unzipped the new firmware to c:Program Files\MSI\MSI551X
      Ran the program START->Programs ->MSI->MS 551X Update
Check the update firmware was 3.xxx and click Start or Okay.
waited for it to finish.  unplugged mega stick and powered it on.
    - What was the original firmware of you stick?
       2.11.2
    - Did you use the update program from the CD or the one from the MSI page?
       from the cd
    - Did you have the battery in the stick for the update?
       yes.

  • Hp Laserjet CP3525 Firmware update failure

I was trying to update the firmware on an HP color Laserjet CP3525 using a USB  connection using the instructions that were posted on the HP website for the Firmware upgrade.  It looked like everything was going well, but when the printer rebooted it never gets past the 6/6 screen on the LED screen.  I have left the printer in this condtion for several hours and it never gets past this area. I'm assuming that the Firmware upgrade caused the printer to do a hard crash and is not recoverable, but I'm hoping that someone might be able to help get this back up and working.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    This question was solved.

Well, in general if the firmware update was interrupted for any reason it would lead to this. This could be caused on the computer side (restarting/logging out/ending the process before it is complete) or in the cord that you are connected with if it is damaged in any way or not properly secured in the USB ports.  I am sorry that you are in this situation, I understand that in a situation with limited spending caps you would have legitimate concerns about updating your other machines.

Installation failed for product [Resource Manager Essentials] with message : com.cisco.nm.xms.psu.packagemgmt.InstallerException: Repository in use.

I searched for the psu.lock file but i couldn't find this file. How can i fix this without reinstalling the lms?

    Hi,
i have attached the psu.log file. There is no .lock file, i've checked this again. I tried again to update the device packages
After 1 hour i stopped the update.( normaly an update take max. 10 minutes. During the device package update i could see the the psu.log file was going into a loop. It starts at 0 kbytes -> growing to nearly 950kbytes and than it starts again at 0 kbytes
