E71 Freezes While Charging Battery

My E71-2 will occasionally freeze when an event occurs (i.e. SMS, alarm clock) while it is charging via the AC wall plug.
Yesterday serves as an excellent example. The phone was charging and I received a text message (alert sounded). When I went to go check the message, the phone was unresponsive. The keypad light was on. I attempted to unlock the keypad, toggled and held the power button, but all failed. Eventually I had to remove the battery.
Again this morning, while the phone was charging my daily alarm clock went off but never got to the point of making any noise. The alarm keypad light kept flashing on/off and yet again the phone was totally unresponsive require me to remove the battery.
Any insight? Maybe something that will be solved in a future firmware upgrade?

Since you asked...routine reliance, no. In this post, a user running both cores hard measured power consumption at ~40 W. The 85 W adapter provides plenty of juice.
As Retired Engineer stated, the Mac OS dynamically adjusts the CPU speed to meed demand. This is about more than just battery life, although that's one main reason. Another is Energy Star compliance (Apple states, +"For starters, Apple offers superior power management right out of the box — every Mac we ship is ENERGY STAR 4.0 compliant, or better, as a standard feature."+). As stated in this kbase article, there are rare occurrences when the computer will draw more power than the battery provides, so as a precaution the CPU is throttled back when running on AC power with the battery removed. But, even when on AC with a battery installed, the CPU will be run at the speeds needed to meet demand, meaning less power drawn from the adapter, consistent with environmentally friendly operation.
If you'd rather consume more power than needed, there are hacks that allow you to control your CPU speed, your fan speeds, etc., manually. I personally don't endorse using them, so I won't post links. Try Google.
Also, be sure that whatever utility you're using to monitor CPU speed supports your hardware and software - I know that one of the monitors 'broke' with one of the incremental Leopard updates, and reported speeds lower than actual.

  • CPU crippled while charging battery!

My battery died completely after a year of using my MacBook Pro with it always plugged in. *****, but OK. I kept running it, oblivious that it was running at only 900 MHz, instead of 2.2 GHz (because of the power cap when mac laptops run without battery).
Now I'm aware of that design flaw.
So I went to get a battery.
Now my MacBook Pro is running at full speed running from the battery. But when I plug in the charger, it starts re-charging the battery.
But according to CPU-Z, the cores run now at 900 MHz again, apparently because the power is being used to charge the battery, instead of running the laptop?
Is this for real? Did Apple actually release a notebook computer that manages power like this?
Please tell me there is an alternative to buying this new battery.
Please someone tell me there is a 200W Magsafe adapter out there, for me to run my MacBook Pro at FULL speed, with no battery inside...
And if not, at least tell me how to make it run at full speed while charging the battery.... =(

  • Z1 Compact freezes while charging

I've got my Z1 c updated to 14.4.A.0.108 on 29.08.2014 despite had same version by that time. After update the phone got frozen while charging with magnetic dock: the led was blinking white and no reaction to pressing power button. Only reboot helped (power+volume up). This happen twice out of three charging cicles.
Is there a solution for this?

  • Ti 500 freezes while using battery power

My ti 500 freezes during start up whenever I start it up using the battery. If i start it up plugged in it works just fine, it will freeze once i go to battery power. I have replaced the battery device that plugs into the logic board. but the problem is still there. I recently replaced the screen taken from another ti 500. Any ideas what might be wrong? Any help would be great. thanks.-wam
    Titanium 500mhz Mac OS X (10.3.9) 512 ram, 20g HD,

I've had this happen with an old G3 Wallstreet 233 Powerbook some years back (hoping my memory is accurate) - - I think it had to do with the battery capacity wearing down with charge cycles - - I'm guessing your battery is at least 2.5-3 years old.
You might try calibrating your battery (battery-only full discharge to shut-down, then powering up on AC to full charge), I've heard some folks get more battery capacity, at least for a while. Good luck!

  • System freezes while on Battery

    Hi there,
    I’ve a TOSHIBA Satellite L650 laptop model (bought mid 2010) with Intel (R) Core™ i3 CPU, 3 GB RAM & Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit Operating System).
I’ve been facing an unusual situation for a while. My system frequently freezes without any indication or alert message, while operating on Battery when the remaining charge reaches around 40 to 45%. A re-image to factory defaults also dint help. No issues while operating under Plugged in power conditions. I’d recently replaced the battery with a new Toshiba Primary High Capacity 12-Cell Li-Ion Laptop Battery (Original). However, still facing the same problem & fed up with rebooting at every instance. Appreciate if somebody could please help me with appropriate diagnosis/troubleshooting.
    Thanks,
    Mano

Hi Mano! I never let my laptop sleep or hibernate. If I'm going to be gone for a long time, I shut it down. I aways have my adapter plugged in. That may be some thing to debate Having said all that, you might want to check here.

  • Laptop freezes while on battery power.

I have Arch 64 bit install on a Thinkpad T510. While the laptop is plugged into power, it is rock solid and can run for days without a crash.
The laptop freezes up quite often when it is running on battery power. After anything from 15 minutes to an hour, it will probably freeze. I cannot switch to a tty, I just have to do a hard reset.

I'm not sure if tracker could be causing the problem, or if it is something else.
I have the discrete graphics card enabled - NVIDIA Corporation GT218 [NVS 3100M]

It might not necessarily be caused by loss of power, but maybe if the battery power dips? Or if the battery gets too hot and something overheats, then that could cause freezing. I'm only going by what I've found on google.
Anyway, I found another thread (not sure why I didn't see it before) that suggests that it might be caused by bluetooth (bluez specifically) https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=115814, but it seems like that was more of a locking up problem than freezing completely. I've remove bluez and disabled bluetooth for now anyway (unfortunately can't remove it completely because I'm on Gnome Shell) and I'll run on battery for a good while and see if things freeze again.
EDIT: also followed this - https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/HDAPS in case the problem was caused by the hard drive being moved about.

  • DVI external display freezes while charging MacBook Air.

My Samsung SyncMaster SA300 freezes my MacBook when connected, but when I unplug the charger for the MacBook, it works fine.  Very annoying...

You can, but, some programs still can cause the display to come on because of their demands of the graphics chip.  So you have to sometimes keep an eye on the display so it doesn't overheat the keyboard or run the battery low.

  • Phone Freezes While Charging

Recently purchased the HTC Incredible. Noticed that when I plug it into the wall charger, it does odd things (programs open, screens change and freeze), all without me touching anything.  I may have it set to the alarm clock at night, plug it in and set the phone down, and it's on a different screen (the only way I have fixed this so far is to use the 'mouse' and click on things).
Car charger works perfectly, no functionality is lost unlike the wall charger.
    Any thoughts or fixes?

Boot your phone in safe mode, see if the same will occur. It could be related to a 3rd party app like battery savers or task killers:

My fifth generation was working OK,until one day the folder with the exclamation mark appeared. I've tried everything the website recommends - but no luck! I've tried charging it on my computer, but it keeps freezing after about 30 seconds of charging.

It doesn't matter. Either way, it's eventually going to turn off, if you don't touch it.

  • After Ipod freezes, fully charged battery dies

My iPod has had freezing troubles lately, and I know how to unfreeze it. The problem is that even if it had a full charge, after I unfreeze the iPod, it has no charge, like it has been completely drained.
This iPod is only 3 weeks old, and I am wondering if this is a problem I should address now, and just apply for a new one, or if this is fixable.
Any help would be awesome, thanks!

  • ARGGG phone froze while charging

i have never had a problem like this before with anyphone.. but has had anyone else had this problem..? i trusted my phone as an alarm clock today for 9:30 am and left it charging overnight and to wake up at 12:15.. to see that my phone had froze with the external display showing 9:12... and opening the flip did nothing.. and because of this i missed my change to see james bond... i am not a happy camper. has anyone else had the problem of this phone freezing while charging?

Mine has done that once or twice. But I just reset the device by removing the battery and it was fine the next day. Not sure what could've caused it though

  • Satellite L200: Why LCD freezes and lines in the LCD appear while charging?

    Hi!
I'm new here and ive got some problems with my L200. Everytime i charge my laptop while using it my LCD monitor freezes and there's a bit of running lines that appear in the monitor.
The only way that i can use it is to disconnect the charger and run it thru the use of a fully charged battery.
I just want to ask if theres a problem with my LCD or with the adaptor charger?
    Thank you so much!

Everytime i inserted the adaptor it turns off and sometimes it freezes the whole screen and apparently some vertical lines appear on the screen. It's been two weeks and im using it right now thru a fully charged battery. Thank you so much for the reply.
