E71 hanging Data connection after automatic email ...

Hello all,
My E71 seems to suffer from hanging Data Packet Connection after automatic email retreival.
So I configured my email IMAP4 retreival and set it to automatic retreival every 15 minutes.
Then after a few hours I check my phone and there is a data connection open and active. If I check the connections it is open for a few hours, sucking my battery.
What should I do to make it automatically disconnect after email retreival?
PS: I configured my packet data settings with "Data Packet connection only when needed"
Regards,
Menno

I found the only solution is to set the frequency of update to more than 30 minutes. This really is a problem since the next interval is 2 hours, not 1 hour like in other nokia devices. I don't believe that my nokia N series had this problem, either.
This is a SIGNIFICANT issue that needs to be fixed by nokia considering they want the e71 to be messaging/email device. It is very annoying to have to be prompted to close the data packet connection to do anything; i.e. make calls, use google maps, etc. Checking e-mails only once every 2 hours is obviously not a solution either.
Get on the ball nokia!

  • URGENT HELP NEEDED!!! No data connectivity after a while, weird errors

    I am using T-Mobile's regular prepaid web plan and Wi-Fi just fine, no need for BIS, Rich Email, or BBM (SMS and MMS is just fine). All I ever use are apps that SPECIFICALLY state that they work over standard TCP/IP and Wi-Fi. The problem is, after some time, the apps that one worked over regular data connections and MMS don't connect anymore. Even though the apps said that no BIS is needed, they can't access data. Even RIM's own Facebook app, which claims to work over Wi-Fi (and does) loses data connectivity after a day or so without a full reboot. The only thing that works is the BlackBerry Browser, which still connects to the internet. Along with the apps failing to work, MMS messages also can't be sent.
    Rebooting the phone by a battery pull or alt-shift-delete allows the apps and MMS to work, which after a day (sometimes even shorter) stops working again.
    Here's what I've done so far:
    - Checked and made sure that all permissions for data access
    - Checked that my APN settings are correct: epc.tmobile.com
    - Checked my Wi-Fi router for connectivity
    - Called  T-Mobile tech support for help, wiped my phone upon their instruction
    - Reinstalled my apps and contacts, T-Mobile sent me new service books
    Still the SAME THING with apps and MMS not working after a while. I've narrowed it down to entries in the event log that show up as this, which shows up seconds before my apps and MMS stop working:
    a net.rim.hrtRT - PUpI - 9/23 17:06:58
    a net.rim.hrtRT - EPdp 0x3 - 9/23 17:06:58

    W net.rim.mdp - TDtm - 9/23 17:06:58
    i net.rim.mdp - TTex - 9/23 17:06:58
     Can any experts or developers tell me what these Warnings and Errors mean? I am pretty sure that whatever "net.rim.mdp" and "net.rim.hrtRT" is doing isn't good.

    anyone care to help???
    Also, on the 18th I wiped my phone again, and three days later (longest time with no mdp error) the same error occurred in the event log, no internet connectivity afterwards on Wi-Fi or Mobile Network...

  • Lost data connectivity after upgrading iPhone 4 to iOS 5. How to fix?

    Hello,
    I upgraded my 16GB iPhone 4 yesterday from iOS 4.3.5 to iOS 5 and everything went fine after a few failed connections to Apple's servers, however my phone lost the data connectivity completely. Phone and SMS worked fine, I could also connect through wi-fi with no problems, however whenever I tried to use data I got a message that my phone was not signed to an internet service.
    I restored my phone from the backup after upgrading. Not successful. I also reset the network configurations. No deal.
    My carrier is Vivo (Brazil) and everything worked fine prior to the upgrade (and after the downgrade).
    I imagine it can be a problem with APN configuration under iOS 5 and I tried to configure it through a webpage, but I got a message that my phone already had a APN config (profile) and could not install another. Under Settings>General>Network I don't have the "mobile network option" nor the "profile" option.
    Any thoughts? So far I haven't contacted other people under my carrier who upgraded to see if they had the same problem.
    Thanks for reading,
    Samuel

    I got a workaround; it's not what I wanted, but it solves the main problem.
    I noticed that I only lost data connectivity after restoring from backup after the iOS 5 update. So what I did was to backup my phone, restore again to iOS 5, configure as a new phone and backup again (with nothing in the phone).
    Then I launched an iPhone backup utility software, in this case, iBackupBot, which in the trial version is enough for what I wanted. I opened the old backup and exported only the files I wanted (like call history and SMS history), then I imported these files into the new backup and restored from it.
    I lost my media files (which I copied before) and some configurations, but the most important itens, like SMS, I managed to export from the old (complete) backup.

  • Cellular Data Connection after reboot

    I have an Nokia ICON and i've noticed that the phone can take over an hour to login to the cellular data network after a reboot. I can make calls and get texts but I cannot do any data functions for a REALLY long time. I never had this problem when I was on an iPhone on Verizon so I know it's not the carrier (or is it?). Anyone else experiencing really long times to connect to the data network?
    -Patrick

    I will assume that your iPhone was older than the ICON because I would further assume you updated to an ICON from an iPhone, therefore the iPhone was possibly 3G which is not LTE capable. So it is likely that there are LTE issues in your area. Have you called *611 yet to let the tech representative know of your issue? I know things can be frustrating but it is best not to be quick to assume there is a problem with your phone and say that: "I didn't have a problem with my iPhone". The reason I bring that up is because there are already too many people out there that think their platform is the best and at the first sign of issues of another platform just reinforces why their platform is the best. This may not be how you feel, but it best not to even bring your other phone up, because it just adds to issue that keeps people buying iPhones for untrue reasons. People that do this have what is coined: Cognitive Dissonance Denial. I am not saying Windows phone is the best, I actually like Android's OS, but I like the Windows Phone OS's sleekness. But I do believe people need to be a whole lot less harsh on the Windows platform.

  • E71 Wireless Data Connection

    Hi, does anyone know the setup details for a wireless data connection for the E71 on the O2 network.
    I would like to pair my E71 to my TomTom GO 530. The E71 is currently unsupported by the Go 53o but you have the option to pair other phones. I need the O2 access point details, username, password and DNS settings.
    TomTom give default settings on their support pages but these do not work on my phone/TomTom GO 530.
    Any advice would be welcome.

    B.
    Thanks for your reply as it provides some helpful ideas and confirms that my issue is not totally unique.  However you are describe an isssue with wifi where as I do not seem to have the problem there.  My home wifi network connection seems stable.  I encounter the problem whith my phone companies wireless data connection.  More interestingly (although I need to do more testing to be absolutely certain) is that it appears that when I loose my abilityt to receive data I do NOT loose voice capability.
    As a specific example.  I am surfing the internet in front of my house (not on my home network however) and get in the car to drive ten blocks to the grocery store.  I get there and can't remember the groceries I was to buy so I attempt to check the recipe on-line but can get no connection to surf.  I can however call home to ask or (to save a lecture) I could also turn airplane mode on and off and that would re-establish my data connection to my phone company.
    It feels like if I could do what you have done for your home connection - only on at a provder level - all would be good.
    Thanks for your help.

  • E71 disable data connections on roaming

    is there a system setting or recommended application to disable data connections in roaming?
    on my other phone running android there is a switch on the menu and on top of that there is a switch app which disconnects connections and changes apn to prevent reconnecting.
    I'm looking for similar solution for nokia e71... thanks!

    i know about that but I do not want to be going to every application and making sure that it is configured not to use data...
    I want global system setting which cuts out internet connection.
    On android there is a nice program called apndroid which changes apn url temporarily and reverts back to original when you run it again.
    I'm not familiar with programming on symbian but is there API access to apn settings so it could be changed by a script or software?

  • HTC ERIS randomly Drops data connectivity after 2.1 OTA

    I am about to receive my 3rd HTC Eris under warrany that I am told will help my problem, before the 2.1 upgrade I no problems with data connectivity dropping. My 1st phone randomly displayed message saying "The MObile network setting needs to be turned on. The 2nd replacement phone does the same thing at random all over Phoenix.
    Verizon said they have never heard of this problem and there have been no issues with the 2.1 upgrade..so far that is the story from 2 reps. My 3rd replacement phone is on its way...will it fix my problem?? Tried to get them to replace the phone with a nother model but they would only do it at full retail price....wow I use this for business and it is costing me money......If this doesn't fix it I guess I'll keep asking for replacement phones till it finally works properly again......
    A very unhappy HTC Eris user...

    Hi.  I am sorry you are having issues with your HTC Eris and I will be happy to look into this for you.  When did you get the 2.1 update?   Try to dial *228 option 2 to update your roaming to see if that helps.  If it does not, we may need to reset your entire device to see if that works.
    Waiting on your reply
    Thanks!

  • Problems with Cellular Data Connection after 6.1.3 upgrade

    Have had nothting but problems after installing this upgrade.  My iPad 3rd generation 4G (Verizon) is continually searching for data service ever since I installed this upgrade.  It has never been able to connect to cellular, but WiFi connectivitity is fine.  Even worse, the iPad now shuts itself down and reboots after just a few minutes of use.  HELP!!!

    Solved by keeping both buttons for 15 s for turning off and mad recovery from backup.

  • AppleTV3 Ethernet no longer connects after automatic update

    Just turned on the TV to find that the Apple TV is no longer connected to the Internet or LAN.
    It does seem to have updated automatically and all the icons are the new iOS8 style.
    If I go the Network I see no IP, no DNS.
    Rebooted the device, rebooted the Mac Mini Server, unplugged the ATV3 from power and ethernet.
    Nothing will fix it. Looks like the latest update kills Ethernet connectivity.
    I have a local Gigabit Switch and it shows that the Ethernet port is active when I plug in the CAT6 patch cable to the ATV3, but the ATV no longer finds the LAN.
    Anybody else having this issue since the automatic software update?
    Help! (Kids have been promised a Movie night and now this....)

    I had this issue last night as well.  I'm connected through ethernet and was not able to connect to any services. In fact, my home screen just showed the Computers icon and Settings icon. I also restarted the Apple TV a number of times as well as my router it is plugged into. What I found is that for some reason it was taking a little while longer to connect to the Internet. If I waited a bit it eventually connected. I checked this morning and when I turned on the Apple TV it seemed to be back to normal and connected right away.
    I know that's not a real specific answer, but maybe you can go to the network setting and give it a minute to see if it eventually assigns an IP, DNS, etc.

  • E71 Firmware Upgrage (200...) data connection / Ma...

    Since upgrading the firmware on my E71 the data connection using either 3G or GPRS has become very unstable. This has made syncing Mail for Exchange a nightmare! Took 3 hours for it to update all the contacts, (there was 615 of them), and when in 'always on' mode it's continually dropping the connection.
    Have tried reinstalling both the firmware and MfE, and has made no difference to the stability. Running MfE 2.7.0.
    When going into the 'Download' folder it's also dropping the data connection which means the information has not yet been able to update.
    Anyone else with the same problem?

    OK, here it is -
     - All Internet connections working fine before update (3G/Wifi)
    - Used NSS - flashed E71 to generic Euro version so i can get update ver.400.21.013,instead of ver. 300.21.012
    -  Successful, All Internet connections working fine after NSS flashinge (3G/Wifi)
    - Started up NSU to begin update. Update done successfully
    - Internet connections NOT working anymore(3G/Wifi)
    - Redid update, and restore without "Settings", PC hung, update not sompleted, Phone refused to start.
    - Did 3 fingered trick, phone back to life.
    - Redid update with NSU - Completed successsfuly
    - Did restore - minus Settings
    - 3G and Wifi not working
    - Did reset  *#7780#  , and did restore again - minus settings/memory card. Still no joy
    - Did reset *#7370# and restore minus settings/memeory card. Still not working
    - Did reset (three fingered trick) and restore minus settings/memory card.
    - Somewhere along the way, GPRS/3G working, but not Wifi.
    - Initially getting  "gateway not found", now "Wlan not found" errors msg
    - Formated card, wiped phone memory clean, deleted all apps
    - Tried ALL permutations of resets, without restore - Still not working
    - Tried ALL permutations of resets, without restore - minus Sim and Memory card - Still not working
    - Tried to re-do update with NSU. NSU says i have the most recent update, no further options
    - Changed WLAN to "No security", used WLAN wizard - Still not working
    - Changed WLAN to "No security", entered settings manually - Still not working
    I have reset this phone in alll the diff reste permutations and entered the HEX key over 50 times now, and its still not working. Every other device is connected apart from the E71!!

  • Running out of data connections

    Problem Statement:
    Running out of data connections after some time and
    the following SQLException is thrown:
    "failed to create a data connection with any of the
    specified drivers"
    Problem Description:
    I have an application that is running under iPlanet
    6.0 on solaris using Oracle 8 and type 2 Oracle
    driver.
    The application is using a number of stateless
    session beans.
    Normally, my servlets instantiate the remote beans in
    order to make access to their interfaces. For
    example, I have a servlet that fetches all of
    the accounts for a given customer. First, The servlet
    does the fetch by calling JNDI to lookup the "home"
    interface, then does a "create" call on the home
    interface to get the "remote" interface
    (see snippets of code below, the ejbCreate()).
    Second, the servlet calls up a specific method that
    extracts the customer's accounts (see snippets of
    code below, the method getAccountList()).
    At first all seem to work well, however after some
    random time my beans start to throw the SQLException
    "failed to create a data connection with any of the
    specified drivers"
    At first I thought that I am not closing the
    connections, but all of of my connections,
    statements, and result sets, are closed
    and even set to null in a finally block as you can
    see in the snippets of code below.
    If I restart iAS, all of the connections get released
    and things look normal again till the problem
    re-occurs.
    Initially, we had this problem on SP2, so we upgraded
    to SP3 thinking that this may solve the problem,
    however the problem remained on SP3.
    Another thing, this same application works perfectly
    well on my laptop which has similar iPlanet
    configurations except that operating system is
    Windows 2000 Advanced Server, and Oracle 8.0.4.0.0.
    System Configuration:
    Following is my system configuration and related
    iPlanet 6.0 settings.
    -1- iPlanet 6.0 SP3
    -2- Type 2 Oracle driver
    -3- SunOs, sparc SUNW, Ultra-250, solaris 5.8
    -4- Oracle 8.1.6.0.0 64-bit Production
    -5- Following are the entry settings in the iPlanet
    registry under
    Software\iPlanet\Application Server\6.0\CCS0\DAE2\ORACLE_OCI
    - CacheCleanInterval = 120
    - CacheConnTimeOut = 120
    - CacheDebugMsgs = 0

    - RSBufferMaxRows = 100
    - RSBufferMaxSize = 32768
    - SQLDebugMsgs = 0
    Snippets of Code:
    The following snippets of code come from a stateless
    session bean and consist of a local data member, the
    ejbCreate() method, and a typical rmi method that
    does the database connection and extraction of
    related records.
    javax.sql.DataSource dataSourceObj = null;
    public void ejbCreate()

    // Instantiate an account object
    account = new nbAccount(AccountNo);
    index++;
    } catch (SQLException e) {
         nbUtility.logError(e, "SQLException while trying to get accounts data.");
    } finally {
    try {
    if (rset != null) { rset.close(); rset = null; }
    if (stmt != null) { stmt.close(); stmt = null; }
    if (conn != null) { conn.close(); conn = null; }
    } catch (SQLException e) {
         nbUtility.logError(e, "SQLException while trying to close connection.");
    return (accountList);
    }

    I've experienced similar problems. Unfortunately, all efforts by iPlanet
    technical support to resolve the issue have failed. (They do keep calling
    and asking if they can close the ticket for some reason)
    One thing that's totally anoying is the ksvradmin monitory crashes when I
    try to have it report any connection pool information. They verified it's a
    bug in SP3 but won't say if it's fixed in SP4 or provide an estimate.
    To date here's what I've tried (by tech support's recomendation):
    1) Configure for global transactions. (even thow I'm not using them)
    (Failed)
    2) Switch to using 3rd party driver (We were previously using native)
    (Failed)
    3) Ran report on oracle showing number of connections used during iplanet's
    failed attempt. Report from Oracle shows 2 connections open, but iPlanet is
    configured for 120.
    4) Increased the connection pool size. (I didn't know why based on the
    above info) (Increased to 300) (Failed)
    Well there's my history. We crash after about 3 days of heavy usage. I'm
    about to give up and just reset my servers each night. Will help me with
    logfile rotation of the kjs files as well.
