E71(locked) update ???

Hi,
I got an E71 network branded version,from 3 with a contract in UK. I have checked the latest version of E71 is 110.07.127.
I checked my phone code and i get 100.07.76 as the latest version.
Does this mean i cant update bcoz it is locked from my network provider??
thanks

You are talking about unlocking. As Psychomania said above unlocking the phone ie the ability put any service providers SIM card in it does only that.
The phone will still have all the network logos and functions enabled or as the case may be disabled, the only thing that is different is that it will work with another networks SIM card in it.
Unlocking has no negative consequences.
The networks in the UK only charge around £15/€17 to unlock the handsets from them so why pay €30 for someone to illigitimately unlock it.

  • E71 - Software Update now GPS takes 15min to lock ...

    Basically I updated my E71 to the 210 firmware and now it
    takes 15 minutes for the GPS to lock onto the satellites. I took the phone to
    the care centre in the hopes they could run the old version of the software
    back onto the phone.
    They were very nice and the service was good. The only
    problem is they didn’t fix the problem.
    They said the Technician replaced an important signal device
    in the phone, no more description than that was given. I tested the phone there
    and still had the same issue with the GPS.
    When I was using the phone before the latest update the GPS
    took less than 30 Seconds to lock on. This was great but I tried to explain
    this to the technician and he kept going on how it takes 15 minutes the first
    time which can’t be right unless I was just unusually lucky the first 50 or so
    times I would have used the phone before.
    Now since I have been using the phone after taking it to be
    fixed I find it is interfering with audio equipment where you can hear the noise
    of the phone trying to get a network signal which never happened until I took
    it to the Nokia Care Centre.
    I am at a loss now because the GPS still takes 15 minutes or
    more to lock onto a satellite signal and now the phone is causing interference
    with audio equipment.
    I have actually tried emailing Nokia through the contact us
    form on the site which does not seem to be working. I will call them during the
    week but I fear I will not be able to explain the issue to the service centre
    staff as it got me nowhere in the first place.
    Has this ever happened to anyone?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Thanking you kindly scoobyman.
    I did actually change the setting in -
    -Home menu
    -Tools
    -Settings
    -General
    -Positioning
    -Positioning Server
    -Access Point.
    Access point is what I had orriginally changed to none.. which I actually thought was a smart Idea because I was under the impression that it would ammount to data charges on my plan here in Australia.
    A day ago I had changed the access point back to the orriginal setting... and would you know it... all fixed.. GPS is back to its chirpy self again and locking on in less that 30 seconds as apposed to the technicians 15 minutes.
    Now I am really annoyed with the fact that the Technician has buggered something up internally when it was just a setting.
    I am going to have to take the phone back to the repair centre to fix what they broke.
    Thanks for the help though and I hope if anyone else has the same problem they dont go to the service centre first thing!

    Welcome to the forum!
    Firstly, if you go to Menu > Tools > File mgr. > Memory card > cities\diskcache\VOICES - what files are shown? There should be yellow folders english_f and ? voice_catalog.ENG (just example) and inside english_f there are four folders english_female, COMMON.LUA, CONFIG.LUA & skin_english_female_lua
    Might suggest that you delete contents of VOICES folder and download voice of choice using Maploader for Mac as per screenshot:

  • E71 Firmware Update (200.21.118) - Possible Issue ...

    For those of you who ignore the pre-update warning about removing the Memory Card Password, you may discover that the password you set is no longer working...
    Sadly you'll only discover this after you've updated your E71, so there's no way to access it without the correct password...
    I, rather foolishly, thought I knew better, and being 100% confident of the password, didn't remove it...
    Boy was I wrong...
    Thankfully Psycho here suggested I try the "Remote Lock" password that I'd set previously, and that worked first time...
    So if you've set the Remote Lock - try that as the password to your memory card
    Thanks again Psycho

    Best way to go about this is to make a backup via the nokia pc suite and then run the nokia software updater... the warranty is still valid as it is an authorised and common way to upgrade your nokia.. if you have any concens or dont feel up to updating it yourself you could always visit your local nokia service center

  • E71 firmware update via infrared, internet or blue...

    It is IMPOSSIBLE connecting my E71-2 via USB to windows.
    I need to upgrade the firmware, is there a way of doing it without USB?

    Hi,
    I didn't have any problems with the phone. It's just when I originally got the phone about a year ago I was enthusiatic about updating the firmware as this had solved many problems on my previous N73 but I couldn't find an update. I had thought that a pre-emptive strike was in order before I started to use the phone.
    Having become used to the E71, I really like it, I thought I'd check to see if a software update was available as it hadn't been when I first had the phone.
    The only problems I've had weren't really phone specific e.g. the positioning server for the assisted-gps needed changing and I had to buy Adobe Reader LE 2.5 to be able to usefully read documents i.e. word re-flow and large file sizes and was so greatful that Opera released mini beta 5 - excellent.
    When I upgrade firmware on a PC you always get a chance to backup the original just in case things don't work out so you can get back to a working state. This doesn't seem to apply in the World of mobile phones. When you update firmware on a PC it doesn't stop programmes from working.
    During the update process you are asked to ensure that your memory card is not encrypted or locked. Not very clear. It would be much better if you were warned to un-install security programmes, then backup, then update, then restore, then re-install security programmes. It would be truely wonderful if you could backup or download the original firmware just in case or make an image of the phones present state so that this could be replaced intact if necessary.
    Does anything like that exist for the S60 platform?
    Thank you.

  • E71 Firmware Update Fixes

    Just wanted some input in regards to what issues need to be resolved within the first update, excluding the RF reception, I think we all want that fixed ASAP...
    I have never heard of reception issues being fixed from a firmware issue, but maybe they could do something within the OS that would hold the dual mode signal better.
    Any ideas or thoughts on what the E71 needs to make it almost perfect?

    Guys, how about consider dropping your E71s to the trashbin, and switch to devices like N95, N82 etc.? E71 was NEVER designed to be a multimedia-monster, hence it would NEVER make you happy in that area. Take it or leave it, that's life. And please stop putting here all those silly requests, as I believe this thread is about firmware *bugfixes*, not a feature wishlist (which would never be implemented anyway). I'm way more concerned about correct IMAP support (one of the core features of E71, btw), than camera quality which I'm never bothered about anyway. If I was bothered about camera quality, I'd get myself N95 or SE K850i, or anything like this. I advise you guys the same.
    isnt improper color rendering is a bug that needs to get fixed? i think that even a email/business phone should try to capture the images it takes with some semblance of accuracy. a TV out is usefull for presentations too.

    When I use Software Updater to update my E71's software, all works well until I get to the screen with the "Update" button, which is greyed out and unclickable. I've tried rebooting the phone and my PC, but nothing changes.
    Has anyone had this problem?

    i've updated the firmware for my E71 mobile and then i restored my contactes and this stuff and after that i'm not able to log on the internet by Wlan or even GPRS everything is not accessible.

    Are you able to send and recieve MMS messages?
    If not it sounds like you packet data and MMS settings are not present in the handset
    Who is your network provider?
    If the settings are not in your handset you will be best directed at your network operators website, to obtain the settings. There used to be a WGSglobal settings service from Nokia on the Nokia support site but it is no longer available, most operators now link to their own version, and its the operators settings that you need, so go to their site and search for "Get settings" or such like
    Examples:
    Orange UK http://help.orange.co.uk/orangeuk/support/selfservice/index.jsp
    O2 UK  http://getsettings.o2.co.uk/ServeSettingsWebApp/
    Vodafone UK http://preview.tinyurl.com/cxdlwd
    From those pages you can get the settings for those providers you will need to find your operators version.
    Have you an unlocked SIM free Generic E71?
    The phone should detect the SIM - try running the settings wizard in the handset to provision these.

  • E71 Firmware Update

    Any updates for the E71 Nokia Series

    If you search for an E71 update on the Nokia website you'll see that:
    a) there is none (you have to fill in the product code)
    b) it is not possible to sign up for getting a message if there will be one.
    I don't like it either, but let's support quality over speed.

  • E71 Lock Standby Screen changed itself

    Hello,
    Finally I decided to post this to forum and if someone can help fixing this up.
    When my E71 is locked, the standby screen used to look like as attached image "E71-1.jpeg"
    Suddenly, now I am getting different standby screen while I've not made any changes to my phone, attached image "E71-2.jpeg"
    This happened before as well and I'd to restore my phone to Factory settings, which is really not very efficient as I've to customize other setting again afterwards.
    Is there any other way I can set it to good old stanby screen as in attatched image "E71-1.jpeg"? Thanks for your help

    Hi Parth,
    Even after carefully cleaning the accumulated dust and dirt from my N8, it was not possible to restore the functionality of the charge and notification LED's, and it would be against the forum rules to start taking phones apart ourselves. On top of that we could easily break something inside.
    If it is any comfort, a brand new smart phone is unlikely to survive more than 3 years.
    I hope you can keep it going for another couple of years until smartphones with many buttons become fashionable again

    Hmm.. When you plug your phone into your PC does the phone give you connection optioins?
    If so, select 'Mass Storage' , make sure Nokia pc suite isn't running and run the updater independantly of pc suite.
    My phone updated ok but I've noticed quite a few posts of other folk having problems. It may be something to do with the code level it's updating from, mine was level 100.xxxxx
    Hope you find a solution.

  • Locking & updating table in one transaction

    I have a method in legacy code which generates unique ID for application.Everytime it generates 40-50 numbers depeding on blocksize and updates the DB with the last id generated.
    try{
       DataSource ds = serviceLocator.getDataSource("java:MYDB");
       con = ds.getConnection();
       //1. add conn.setAutoCommit(false);
       ps = con.prepareStatement("LOCK TABLE  IDGEN IN EXCLUSIVE   MODE");
       ps.execute();
       st = con.createStatement();
       rs = st.executeQuery("SELECT ID FROM IDGEN");
       if (rs.next()) {
               startid = rs.getInt(1);
               endid =  startid + blocksize;
       // set last number for next call
       ps = con.prepareStatement("UPDATE IDGEN SET ID = ?);
       ps.setLong(1,endid);
       ps.executeUpdate();
       // 2. add  con.commit();
      //3. add conn.setAutoCommit(true);
    }catch (SQLException e){
        //log message
      }finally {
           //  close rs , stmt, conn
          // returns startid   which will be used to genearte next set of  numbers.
      }I think we need to add autocommit statements here. (1,2,3)
    since autocommit is "true" by default , thread 1 locks table, this lock is released after ps.execute(); so "SELECT ID FROM IDGEN" and rest of the queries are not really executed on locked table.
    Am I correct?
    Thanks in advance.

    DataSource ds = serviceLocator.getDataSource("foo");
    Connection conn = null;
    PreparedStatement stmtSelect = null;
    PreparedStatement stmtUpdate = null;
    ResultSet resultsSelect = null;
    try {
      conn = ds.getConnection();
      conn.setAutoCommit(false);  // IMO, this should always be done
      // FOR UPDATE clause will lock the table
      stmtSelect = conn.prepareStatement("SELECT id FROM idgen FOR UPDATE");
      resultsSelect = stmtSelect.executeQuery();
      int maxValue = results.next() ? results.getInt(1) + 1 : 1;
      stmtUpdate = conn.prepareStatement("UPDATE idgen SET id = ?");
      stmtUpdate.setInt(1, maxValue);
      stmtUpdate.executeUpdate();
      conn.commit();  // must be done to release lock (rollback will also do so)
    catch (SQLException e) {
       if (conn != null) try { conn.rollback(); } catch (SQLException fatal) { fatal.printStackTrace(); }
       throw new RuntimeException("Error fetching next sequence", e);
    finally {
      // also close the prepared statements and result sets here
       if (conn != null) {
          try { conn.close(); } catch (SQLException e) { e.printStackTrace() };
