E71 - PTT

I lost the PTT icon in the communication folder after the software update. Has any one come across this trouble? Tried to reinstall, no luck.

I have an unbranded Nokia E71-2 NAM myself.  When I first got it I had firmware version 100... on it and I know there was an icon for PTT there.  But now that I 'upgraded' to firmware 200.. the icon has now disappeared.  From what I understand the PTT software was incompatible with AT&T's service anyway (they use something from Kodiak apparently.)  But that doesn't mean I might not go overseas sometime and wish to use PTT over there.  Nokia should have just left it there. It wasn't hurting anything.

  • E71 User Manual Handbook Deficiencies

It's probably just me in one of my 'Victor Meldrew' moments but I get really annoyed with user manuals like this.  There's a diagram on page 10 that's supposed to show 'Keys and parts' which you would assume would show ALL the keys.  I was curious to find out the purpose of the keys on the side of the phone; there’s no mention of anything on the side of the phone.  I figured that the < and > arrows must be the volume keys but couldn’t figure out the one in between them. Hmmm. I know, I’ll look up ‘Volume Control’ in the index.  The relevant page says, “To adjust the earpiece volume …………… use the volume keys.” Brilliant! What if you didn’t know where they were in the first place?  Still no mention of the other button.  Google. Ah, it’s to do with the Voice Commands, let’s look that up in the Index. Nothing!!! I found it on page 34. What’s the point of having an index that doesn’t cover all the content?  It gets better. “1. To make a call using a voice command, press and hold the voice key.” Priceless.  They we go; rant over. I don’t know what else is missing or other deficiencies contained within this handbook but it just saddens me that here we are (22nd April 2009) and companies are still producing sub‑standard documentation like this.  Am I alone in thinking like this? Oh. OK, just me then!

    Hello,
Is there a way to access VTG on IPICS system in order to send and receive PTT streams from using a thrid party application?
Cisco IPICS API Reference Guide doens't seem to clearly include any API call that allows that! http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/interoperability_systems/c_ipics/221/api/guide/api.pdf

  • Nokia E71 is not a business solution

    Dear Nokia Support,
I am corporate support manager in a big IT company and I understand how support goes for the end users, so please do not answer "we are oriented to consumer market" or "this option is not for your region" I know what it really mean and I am already angry. Also I know that support stuff find such posts funny and nobody would fix anything for me.
About a year ago I have boulgt Nokia E71 for about $600 because I have read reviews, I liked my previous Nokia Navigator and some friends bought E71 and were kind of happy (now they have same problems and they don't). First what I was looking for was a nice metal case which would not be scratched or crashed. After a 3 months there were some dust under screen cover, now there are lot of dust. Also I have fould Nokia had 5 cent economy putting not metal but chrome plated plastic microphone cover panel (you know it, it's in a front side and at the bottom). At the moment crome start to go off and it become ugly. Nice!
Than a keyboard. Nice qwerty keyboard was so nice until 300.x firmware which broke Russian layout replasing й and э to Ukrainian variants. 6 months later you have released 400.x where this bug is fixed but not for Russians. Why? Actually 100.x firmware was good, no Facebook but less reboots and correct Russian layout. The phone itself is unstable some times (when GPS is used for a long time for example or many apps installed) but I have already got used to that bugs. I simply have removed most applications to free RAM and card space but why the hell have I got smartphone?
SMS Manager. You have add ability to create folders at the phone, but PC/OVI Suite cannot see them. Also I cannot make a filter foк incoming messages to put messages from bank to "Banking" filder. But I can send MMS which I don't use and PTT which I don't have in Russia! Great!
Then PC Suite. OK, I agree with nokia team it's outdated piece of  **bleep** and sould be replaced. But why do the Ovi Suite don't support proxy? Who the hell broke Outlook support settings? Oh, yes, I have read on support forums you are "consumer oriented" with the Ovi. It's a lie, becausу I know that using Windows proxy setting is not difficult at all from the programmer prospective. And I still got business smartphone, I am not happy when you suddenly convert it to consumer. Yes, MMS, Youtube and Facebook support are nice for kids but I need a meeting reminder! It was wokring in PC Suite, I was able to select wich calendar to sync!
    PS
Are there anybody besade Nokia managers who find Ovi Store nice and handy, specially from embeded browser of Norkia E71?
    PPS
I don't think my next phone would be Nokia ever.

    Hi,
Just to let you know that this is a user to user forum, so we are all Nokia users here, just like you. Although you will see some Nokia badges here, they are mainly forum moderators and the rest are employees who are here on their own accord. You will not get an official responce from Nokia here.

  • N85 PTT settings vs other "older" Nokias

    Hi there,
I have an N85 and E71 and want to use these two phones for PTT on Three network. The E71 can get the OTA settings no problem, but the N85 seems to have changed things around a bit, requiring an SIP configuration to be set up before you can setup the PTT funciton, at the least. I compared the two menus for the two phones and they are different; the N85 does not a space for the 3's server and username (the mobile phone #) for example.
I called Three customer support and they don't know how to set up the N85 either. It must be possible otherwise why else is there a PTT program on the N85 in the 1st place.
    Any help? Thx in advance.
    Ken

Wow, not a single view even...
    Hope someone can help...

  • Error while downloading. message on E71 GPS USA Ma...

“Error while downloading” message on E71 with updated GPS USA Maps
I’m sure I’m not the only one having this problem but I recently updated my maps on my Straight Talk Nokia E71. The phone says I have map download V 3.03 10wk bo4 Mw Open GL LM MN, Map version 0.1.25.114.and I’m using Nokia Ovi Suite 2.2.1.23. After I installed V3.03, I installed it and download the 1.46GB USA map file and the three turn by turn files. But when I first started the GPS app I started getting the following error “Error while downloading”(This is on phone only)
I have tried to factory reset the phone, re-format the 8GB memory card, remove City data and GF files and even unloaded OVI Suite and reload it. But every time I select GPS app and start to find places or my position, I get "Error while downloading" message. I’m new to this phone and didn’t get a respectable book from Straight Talk. So I don’t know much about this phone or Nokia OS. What is this error and how do I fix it. Also when I try to sync from the phone I get the response "system error". Ovi suite on the PC says I have downloaded all the USA maps and English voice  with street names. Please help I’m at a lost.
    Computer specs
I am running Win-Vista, with a Broadband connection. 3 GB Ram, 2 gig Pentium dual core.
Tran’s flash card has plenty room left on card over 5 gigs left.
If I need to delete a file on the phone please tell me the exact file name because I’m not sure which one to remove from the apps folder.
    Solved!

    Welcome to the forum!
Whilst easy for me to say as keep very little data on device, I would suggest backup essential data then delete E:\cities + ,qf file followed by resetting device to "Out of box" state by keying in #7370# then 12345 (default Nokia lock code unless altered by yourself). At this point you would need to open OVI Maps application on device to re-initialise application and re-define necessary folder structure on memory card for device to be recognised by OVI Suite > Maps to re-download your regional mapping.

  • E71 Linux Information, likes, and dislikes

The E71 is a fairly cool phone, but it took me a little while to get things working well with Linux after upgrading from my Motorola v3xx. To avoid other people having to figure things out, here's my info, and later in this a list of likes and dislikes.
    Bluetooth
The E71 works fine with bluetooth. I bonded the device to my computer with the instructions at http://arstechnica.com/journals/linux.ars/2007/12/10/using-a-bluetooth-phone-with-linux
After installing the software, I made my phone non-hidden, did:
    hcitool scan
    Scanning ...
    xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx Corey's Phone
then got the address (the xx:xx... part). Then I did:
    obexftp -b xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx -l
and it asked on the phone for a passcode, then on the computer. Enter the same 4-digit number in both places. Now you are bonded. You can use obexftp to poke around in the phone.
All fine and dandy, but I also use my phone as a tether to get to the Internet. That's when I ran into my first problem. You use:
    sdptool browse xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
to find the RFCOMM channel to use for dial up, but there's a bunch and I chose the wrong one. After hunting some more, I found out that channel 2 was aptly named "Dial-Up Networking". Set the right channel in /etc/bluetooth/rfcomm.conf:
    rfcomm0 {
    # Automatically bind the device at startup
    bind yes;
    # Bluetooth address of the device
    device xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx;
    # RFCOMM channel for the connection
    channel 2;
    # Description of the connection
    comment "Nokia E71";
restart bluetooth with /etc/init.d/bluetooth restart, and voila, /dev/rfcomm0 appears and it's a PPP dialup. So my PPP scripts to dial into AT&T worked perfectly. You can hunt on the internet for various scripts for this, or I can post one if someone needs it, though it would only work for AT&T.
    USB
Now for USB. It's kind of ironic, but the high-speed data from AT&T is actually faster than the bluetooth data rate. Kind of sucks. So I tether the phone with USB whenever I want to transfer a lot of data (like MP3 files) or when I want a faster network connection. Getting USB working hung me up for a while, though.
Plug in the USB cable (which thankfully came with the phone) and you get a menu of things to do, as USB can really only do one thing at a time. The "Mass Storage" is what is used for file transfer to the microSD card. I guess that's an OK name, though it could have been a little more intuitive.
I don't know what "Media Transfer" does.
You would think that "Connect PC to web" would connect your PC to the web. But you would be wrong. To get a /dev/ttyACM0, a simulated serial port to connect to the web using PPP, you choose "PC Suite". The "Connect PC to web" option creates a simulated CDROM drive that has the PC software to connection your PC to the web through the phone. With the proper selection, I could dial in at will. Now I'm happier, though this cost my some unnecessary time.
    VPN
Now I've got a cool phone that does all kinds of stuff with email. So I think: "I'll set up a VPN so I can get to my home and work email." This was not easy. The best instructions I found were at http://wiki.paepstin.info/nokia:vpn. But they are not quite accurate.
First of all, if you are going to use RSA, the information the keys was wrong. You can completely ignore the information about the "fqdngw" key and certification. You only need to create on key and one certificate for both the phone and the VPN gateway. Put them into /etc/ipsec.d/private and /etc/ipsec.d/certs, respectively. You do need to put the server certificate in as it says. And the "RSA" entry in ipsec.secrets is wrong, it should be the key that you put into the private directory, not the name on the web page.
I was able to get RSA to work with this, but it was annoying as the phone asks you occasionally for the key store password. So I'm using PSK (with a good password).
Creating the keys is easier than it described in the web page due to some better software begin available from Nokia. Unfortunately, it only runs on windows. You can get it at http://businesssoftware.nokia.com/mobile_vpn_downloads.php, it's named "Nokia Mobile VPN Client Policy Tool for Microsoft Windows". The settings in the tool can be directly accessed with the "Advanced view" options, you need to set the values up as described in the tool, but you need to set the mode to "X509 DN" if you use RSA.
You can also do this all on Linux, perhaps, you can search around with Google and find that information.
    Things that I like
The phone is very fast. Viewing web pages on my old Motorola v3xx seemed to be limited by the rendering speed of the web browser, not the bandwidth. Not so with this phone.
The email works quite well, in general.
    Wireless LAN access works well.
SIP worked perfectly the first time with Gizmo (I already had a Gizmo account, highly recommended). This will be really useful when I travel internationally.
I use Scheduleworld to sync my schedule and contacts with Google calendar. The syncing was very fast and worked perfectly. It also syncs Notes, which was one of the most annoying things missing on my Motorola v3xx. (It didn't have notes at all, in fact.)
The main screen is quite functional for me. I could set everything up like I wanted, and it has useful information.
You can run multiple things at the same time! I really hated that about the Motorola v3xx.
The battery meter seems to work correctly. The one on my Motorola v3xx was worthless.
    Thinks I don't like
The IMAP mail works well for most everything, but you cannot move messages between folders. Since I use spamassasin, I have a special folder that spamassasin detects spam in, and another non-spam folder. But I can't read them move the mails to the various folders. I really don't like this.
Voice dialing is completely useless for a number of reasons:
    1) It seems rather unstable, and often causes my phone to reset. Oddly enough, this has been getting better over time, perhaps due to the voice learning.
    2) Even if it didn't cause my phone to reset, it doesn't seem to work well. I know it learns, but my Motorola v3xx didn't have any learning and worked quite well.
    3) Even if the word recognition worked well, it's still not usable without being able to look at the phone and press buttons. The phone has no way to say "No, I don't want that one" through a voice command. You have to be looking at the phone in case it makes a mistake (which could be embarrassing), but that completely defeats the purpose of voice command. When my Motorola v3xx did voice command, it would ask you if it was correct and allow you to go through the selections it found, completely with voice commands.
I'm really going to miss voice dialing. Probably the greatest loss switching from the v3xx.
The phone should use standard microUSB connecter and should charge the phone through it. My Motorola v3xx did this, and I have a bunch of these cables lying around (from various cameras and such) and a bunch of chargers. I don't understand why any phone manufacturer would want to do anything else, except to make their customers lives more difficult and tie them to the manufacturers various chargers. This really sucks.
I've had problems with Bluetooth disconnecting the headset. It's rather annoying, and I'm not the only one who's had the problem, as can be seen by searching through these forums. I just got a Jawbone, and it doesn't seem to be nearly as bad as the H700 I have previously, though.
You have to use XAUTH for VPN logins, at least with openswan. This is somewhat annoying. It would be very nice if Nokia could fix this (apparently the E60 didn't have this problem so it's a new problem, as evidenced in the VPN web page I posted above). If you don't use XAUTH, it seems to connect (at least from openswan's point of view) but the phone never transitions on to do the thing it was going to do.
WLAN really sucks power. It advertises 6.9 days, but I don't even get 12 hours. I don't get the values for GSM or WCDMA, either, but 12 hours is just not enough.
The 2.5mm audio jack really sucks. Why can't it be a standard 3.5mm jack? I had to look for a while, and I think I found a 2.5mm to 3.5mm converter that will work at http://www.atmasphere.net/wp/archives/2008/08/13/e71-recommended-accessory-javoedge-stereo-adapter
I've noticed various glitchy problems. For instance, once I had to mailboxes connected on the same VPN at the same time, and then I disconnected one, then the other. The first one never disconnected and would not disconnect. I had to reset the phone to fix the problem. I've seen other little glitches like that, though none as bad as the resetting problem with the voice command and I've never been able to reproduce any of the other ones.
The mapping program is not intuitive. I still haven't figured out how to use it very well. After I use it for a while I might figure it out. The ability to download maps to the phone would be nice for situations where you are not connected to the internet. I haven't done much with this. I really like the UI for Google maps, this is a big step down from there.
VPN connections do not show up in the "Active data connections" section of the connectivity manager.
The documentation is lacking a lot. Almost all the help on the phone is like the "Proxy port number" setting under "Access point settings". The help is "Enter the proxy port number". That kind of documentation is useless. I'd like to know what the thing does. And the browser has keyboard shortcuts, but I have no idea what they are. A scroll forward and back would be mighty handy keyboard shortcuts, and they might exist, if only someone wrote it down...
Whew, that's a bunch, I guess, but mostly minor (and mostly correctable with a software update, hint hint). If the above things were fixed, it would make this a faultless phone, at least for me. But in addition to those, the following things would make the phone uber-cool:
A big screen and a slider. The screen the only thing I like about the iphone (I really hate that it doesn't have a keyboard, plus you can't tether it and voice command really sucks on the iphone, too.)
It could run Linux . Sorry, I couldn't resist.

EXCELLENT! Could you please please post your dialling files for AT&T?? Even better if you could upload a zip of your entire /etc/ppp/peers folder that would be nicer even. I am in desperate need to get the $15 MediaNet tethering on my Fedora 10 laptop working over bluetooth, I used to do it before with T-mobile T-zones with my E61, but since then I switched to my E71 and moved my number to AT&T and my attempts to adapt my scripts to AT&T have not been successful yet however tethering under Windows XP with the Nokia PC suite works though...

  • E71 can receive, but cannot send email to POP mail...

I have an E71-1. I am in the UK and on '3'. Firmware version is 100.07.76  My problem is I cannot send email to my POP server. It goes to the Outbox then is reported as Queued. Trying to force a send does not have any effect. It would send emails until a few weeks ago.
I have re-set up the server information correctly in the 'phone. The server is sending and receiving emails correctly from Outlook. The E71 receives emails normally.
I have set up another POP account on a different domain on the 'phone and I have the same problem (but it uses the same server). Any help would be appreciated.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

ManCity69 does not have my problem, therefore I appreciate his attempt to help but his solution will not work for me. It is frustrating that I cannot make it work as he has. I want to use my own SMTP server but I can't. I believe my solution is the definitive one because it should work for everyone.
For anyone who has my problem, my posted solution should work. And I have looked at the emails I am sending using other email clients, and they are not arriving from "[email protected]', the 'From' and 'Reply To' are my normal email address, perhaps it is getting these from the pop3 settings, I don't know.
And as we are blundering around in the dark here trying to solve our own problems instead of getting high quality technical support from 3, we will probably never know.

  • E71 - SEVEN Problems - Please Help

Hello ladies and gentlemen. I have a Nokia E71 running Symbian OS 60 3rd Edition.
I have been using SEVEN for several months now and it worked fine (with push e-mails arriving almost instantly everyday). The number of unread emails showed up on my home screen as "[email protected] (1)".
I reinstalled it today because my phone was having problems. After reinstalling SEVEN (and paying 15 of those international text messages), it does not even push any e-mails at all anymore.
After I installed SEVEN, I rejected to sync my Contacts and Calendar and when it says checking email, it just stays at 0% forever.
If anyone could please help me, that would be great. I've already spent a few dollars to no avail! Thanks!

What has SEVEN's technical support said about the issue?
With it being their program they are the best people to ask about this problem.

  • E71 PC Internet Access DNS Problem

    Hi all,
Got a bit of a problem which I hope someone knows the answer to.
I'm currently triailing tethering on an E71 for our corporate network.  I've got the phone connected up and installed Nokia PC Internet Access on my machine; all good.
The problem I'm having is that we use a private APN at the mobile carrier to connect back to our network, and this does not advertise automatic DNS settings to clients.  I can get connected to the APN no problem at all but without DNS servers on the connection, it's fairly useless.
Now, I can see that the PCIA application uses Dial-Up Networking behind the scenes to actually connect up, and I have tried to specify manual DNS servers on that connection, but every time I reconnect using PCIA, it resets everything back to automatic, which doesn't work.
Anyone got any ideas on forcing manual DNS servers on a connection when using PC Internet Access?
    Thanks all!

Nobody? This is the way how Nokia does NOT care us. Nokia is now dead

When i scan my memory of the card it shows used space but 0 bytes for Images, 0 for Sound files and 0 for Video files.
Also my Phone has slowed down since then. Some of the images are also corrupted
    Please help me ASAP!!!

  • E63 & E71- Music player's equalizer does not work ...

I would advise to all the owners of the E71 and E63 that Nokia disenable the equalizer of the music player when you put the headphones in appliances. After updating the unit note that the equalizer only works with the sound of the speaker and the equalizer does not work with the headphones anymore.
I ask you to please click the link below and make their complaints about this new firmware that "destroys" the equalizer for the music player that Nokia fix this terrible problem!

Oh my. That is a big problem. Fortunately for me, I don't use the equalizer so it doesn't really affect me all that much. But still, I have no idea how they could just randomly break something like that.

  • PLEASE help me, i fed up with this E71 !

I am suffering from some problems some of them i solved and other still in my Nokia E71:
    1. I downloaded and successfully installed the software (IM for nokia - chat on the go) from OVI store. Everything is ok but there is a major problem, when i sign in windows live messenger it gives me the following message "nokia messaging subscription is required to activate the services you have selected"
I know my nokia messaging account but the software does not give me the chance to even enter the user name and the password it just gives me this message and i have no options. I do not know what does this software want me to do. i also saw this problem before raised by many persons. It is purely nokia's problem and they should have the solution.
p.s. Attached snapshots from diff. steps of the program startup till getting the message.
    2. I have finished successfully the setup of my work email settings (pop3 email). the email is actually working it sends and it receives emails but only when i synchronize it manually, it does not synchronize automatically every now and then like we have in windows outlook. so it is useless like that. i looked into all the setting of the synchronization and nothing looks unusual or strange.
I fed up really with this problem i kept trying to solve it for days.
Please help me working with an email on the mobile without automatic sync. is really terrible.
These are the settings of sync.
    When to sync (menu)
Days : Su Mo Tu We Th Fr Sa
    Hours: On all day
    Sync while roaming: Always sync.
    Disable sync. when: Never.
    Send and Receive: Soonest
    What can i do else?
    3. I also was want to register with my nokia account that sends you the software updates and latest news in SMSs, i registered and everything is fine but they said that a confirmation SMS will be sent to you and contains the verification number for you mobile phone number to complete the registeration provess, i did not get that SMS till now after several days from registeration. !

I need to remove the account because I changed my account password at work and then was unable to update the password in the phone, I had to install the account a second time to get it working again. Any suggestions for avoiding this in the future also gratefully received!
    Thanks!

In the Messaging application, it seems from your description that you didn't go deep enough: Options > Settings > E-mail > Mailboxes.
There choose/select/highlight the mailbox you wish to delete and hit 'C' (or Options > Delete).
