E71 signal

every morning i have to turn my e71 off because it has lost signal over night it did this for a couple of weeks so i took it back to 3 my network provider and they gace me a new one now this one is doing the same. i know it the handset because i never had this problem with my n73.
can anyone help. ive tried resetting fac settings.

I have exactly the same problem. Had an e71 for a week now. Switched from O2 to 3. When i wake up every morning the network is gone and then i have trouble reconnecting to the network or the phone says 'Unable to Connect'. Even if i try and do a manual search it sometimes comes back with 'No Access' message or just sits there searching for an eternity. Maybe it's because i leave the phone on but sitting on its back overnight....and so the antennae is blocked which i know is a known issue for losing the signal. Although i still don't know why the search does not pick up the network. Turning the phone off and on again sometimes does the trick but not always straight away. I'll try my old 'unlocked' E70 to see if i get the same issues.

  • E71 signal hampered by holding the phone??????

I have an E71 on O2, and the signal is massively affected by whether I am holding the phone or not!!!!
There is only one part of the house I can get 3G (close against my office window), and the rest of the house, especially downstairs I get a 1-3 bar GSM.
But, to make things worse... If I hold my phone, the signal drops significantly, and quite often I lose the network completely.
I simply hold the phone just like everyone does while texting, it is not as if I am wearing lead gloves and smothering it!!!
When I am watching TV, I have to have the phone about 2 foot away, and it will sit there quite happily on 3-bar GSM. But, if I put my hand near the phone, the signal drops - it is like performing some uri gellar trick or something. If I pick it up to text, I LOSE the network completely, and I click SEND, put the phone down, wait for a minute or so to get the network back, then prod the buttons from a distance and select OUTBOX > SEND, cos the text has failed to go....
    **bleep** is going on???
    anyone else have this problem?

Is your router an older one? Have you restarted your router( turned off for a minute then back on)?

  • E71 SIGNAL ISSUES

    CAN ANYONE HELP
I HAVE HAD 2 E71S IN THE PAST 4 WEEKS AND THEY BOTH HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM THEY KEEP COMPLETLEY LOOSIING ALL SIGNAL AND I HAVE TO RESTART THE PHONE TO GET A SIGNAL. MY NETWORK HAVE CHECK MY AREA FOR RECEPTION AND ITS A VERY GOOD RECEPTION AREA PLUS I NEVER HAD SIGNAL ISSUES WITH PREVIOUS HANDSETS. I HAVE RE INSTALLED SOFTWARE RESET FACTORY SETTINGS ETC BUT NOTHING IS WORKING I STILL GET THE SAME PROBLEM DAY IN DAY OUT ESPECIALLY IN THE MORNING I CAN GUARANTEE WHEN I WAKE UP IVE NEVER GOT A SIGNAL.
HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE MY NETWORK PROVIDER ARE NOT CO OPERATING IN HELPING ME RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I also have reception issues on E71; as my N95 did not suffer this, I am sure that it is down to the phone, either hardware or software or both.
Disappointing however I have waited in vain for a software update, and Nokia Care could not help.
It it's any help to you, sometimes I try changing the phone network mode from 'Dual Mode' to 'GSM' and this improves things, a bit. I think as I am in a poor 3G area, the phone constantly hops between a 3G and '2G' signal, and at times doesn't know which to go for so goes for neither?!
Also I changed the operator selection from 'automatic' to my specific operator.
    It's not great, but better.
It is clearly a major design fault; whatever the manual says, at the end of the day you shouldn't have to hold the phone in a certain 'grip' just to get a signal at all!
    Good luck.

  • E71 signal/coverage problem

I have a nokia E71 purchased in November 2009. I am facing a peculiar problem with it. In my office the signal strength
is low and sometimes it shows out of reach. After this when I go to my home, where I know that the signal
strength is very good, it still shows out of reach. I cannot make or receive any calls in this state.
The only way to get the signal back is by switching it off and on. Then it works perfectly well and shows full signal strength.
Two more Nokia E71s and two Nokia 5800 are facing similar problems with my colleagues.
All these phones are are new sets purchased within 5 months.
Is the problem with phone, or with the network service provider.
The details of the my phone are as follows:
    Country: India
    Service provider: BSNL
    Model: Nokia  E71
    Firmware: 400.21.013
    RM-346.
    Thanking in advance.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have tried all the combinations. Dual, UMTS, GSM; Network auto and manual. The phone
shows the same behavior. I was in southern part of India for last week of December and I did not face the problem and
never needed to switch off and on the phone.
    Some additional points:
    1. At my work place there are about 3 E71s, 2 Nokia 5800 and one E72 who
are using the same operator (BSNL) and have experienced the same problem and have to switch the off and on the set
when the coverage goes to zero. All these phones are brand new sets brought in last 3-4 months.
    2. Interestingly, the behavior is shown only brand new phones. My older Nokia 6681 works perfectly with the same SIM.
    3. The operator (BSNL) uses Ericsson's hardware  at their Mobile Switching Center.
    3. Any body out there working in "Mobile Switching Center" that uses Ericsson hardware? Any ideas about this problem?
I hope this information helps to debug the problem.
    Thanks

  • E71 looses signal and disconnects when in remote S...

    Regarding E71 and remoteSIM mode:
Anyone experiences the same problem as I do, that the phone is loosing signal and few seconds later disconnects from the in-car bluetooth (VW Touareg with RNS-510 module)? Mine keeps disconnecting, E61i did not do that. When driving E71 stays connected to in car system for maximum few minutes and than looses signal first and disconnects shortly after that.
Anyone here with the same car (unit) combination who could confirm/deny?
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Still no solution from Nokia here.
Make sure your RNS 510 (build in VW multimedia unit) has the newest firmware (recent is 1102). You can find out which firmware your device has by holding SETUP button when the device starts (and displays Welcome to Volkswagen screen). A new menu appears featuring the software version. Should it not appear (make sure you keep holding the button until the menu appears) that means you already have the new software version.
Many people say that this solves the problem assuming you have the newest phone version 200.21.118 from 27-11-2008. I can't check myself as I have additional device connected to my RNS (TV free). Upgrading to 1102 would disable it which I don't want, so I'm still waiting for another solution...
    Good luck!

  • E71 - No GPS Signal / Re-installing Software

    Hi,
I recently changed provider from Orange to Three. I had to get the E71 'unlocked'. For a couple of weeks after getting it unlocked my GPS / Nokia Maps (I paid a subscription) worked fine. However, now I no longer can receive a GPS signal... The position on the GPS is stuck at the town where I last used Nokia Maps, and does not update...
Also, the phone still has Orange software in it.
How do I install a new operating system? can I download it somewhere? I have the CD which came with the phone, but this CD is at least 2 years old, and I'd prefer a newer OS if possible.
The lack of Maps / GPS is very frustrating as I got rid of my Iphone because the GPS was bad, and went back to the E71 because it's always been good!
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi jdg1000
Unfortunately as your E71 has Orange branded firmware despite now being unlocked, the latest OVI Maps with free navigation is probably not an available option for you; you can check using OVI Suite or Nokia Software Updater on your PC whether any later firmware has been released.
As GPS signal relying on Integrated GPS of E71 is quite poor you might want to check whether the Assisted GPS feature has a correctly defined Network access point in Positioning > Positioning server.

  • E71-1 Signal strength problem in the UK

    Hi
I am thinking of buying the E71; I've read glowing reviews and it looks really a great phone.
However reading this forum is giving me second thoughts.
Can anybody tell me if the is a signal strenght problem in the UK. If there is, is it on both the GSM900MHz band and the GSM1800MHz band or just the lower band? I'm with Orange which uses GSM1800MHz band
Any information pertaining to the UK would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi ysgol
I may have been a little flippant with this remark and was not intending it as a definitive solution and my apologies if it was so taken.

  • E71 Firmware Update Fixes

Just wanted some input in regards to what issues need to be resolved within the first update, excluding the RF reception, I think we all want that fixed ASAP...
I have never heard of reception issues being fixed from a firmware issue, but maybe they could do something within the OS that would hold the dual mode signal better.
Any ideas or thoughts on what the E71 needs to make it almost perfect?

Guys, how about consider dropping your E71s to the trashbin, and switch to devices like N95, N82 etc.? E71 was NEVER designed to be a multimedia-monster, hence it would NEVER make you happy in that area. Take it or leave it, that's life. And please stop putting here all those silly requests, as I believe this thread is about firmware *bugfixes*, not a feature wishlist (which would never be implemented anyway). I'm way more concerned about correct IMAP support (one of the core features of E71, btw), than camera quality which I'm never bothered about anyway. If I was bothered about camera quality, I'd get myself N95 or SE K850i, or anything like this. I advise you guys the same.
isnt improper color rendering is a bug that needs to get fixed? i think that even a email/business phone should try to capture the images it takes with some semblance of accuracy. a TV out is usefull for presentations too.

  • No connection between E71 and Thomson Speedtouch 7...

    Hi all,
My E71 detects the WLAN at home; it reports that signal strength and protocol are OK (Both WEP and WPA), but the Speedtouch does not detect my E71 (on the home page WLAN status)
Does anyone have a clue how to correct this problem on the Speedtouch, or on the E71?

    right forget telnet.
thomson speetouch/ gateway routers are problematic with some devices.
(in short the software on the provider supplied ones is **bleep**, limited and very unstable in places)
The handset does not display a name, just the mac address so in the router setup will show the phone as Unknown xx-xx-xx-xx-xx and as so cannot always sign an ip (most operator dependant providers try and protect your backside nowdays from wifi moochers.
    log into to your router
    the address will possibly be
     http://speedtouch.lan or http://192.168.1.254
if it asks you to login the details are
the Username is Administrator (note the CAPITAL A)
    password is blank
once your in you'll see the UI
scroll down to HOME NETWORKING (not the menu on the side)
and look at the devices next to wireless. click on the device it shows (for instance "Unknown-0a-2f-d8-cc-cd-3d" )
(that is a fake mac address/device)
it'll take you to the informaton about said device look in the top right hand side for "Configure"
once page loads change the device name to suit your needs - pauls_e71
scroll down to type, make sure it's set to mobile phone
(do not set to PDA there is a bug on most firmware's on thomson routers will spazz out with this setting, it does on both my unlocked st585v6 and my provider supplied tg585v7)
tick "always use the same address" then click apply, it should fix the problem
i hope this helps, as it did with my 2 e71-1's my nokia 8086's UMA and my sons n95-1

  • Terrible signal problem in iPhone 3GS

    Hi;
I have old iPhone 3G. Which i lost over the last long weekend so i brought the new iPhone 3GS. we all know that iPhone has shaky 3G reception but 3GS is worse than 3G. In the same places where i was getting full signal now i am getting hardly any signal with my new 3GS.And sometimes when its going back to Edge in case bad 3G, it's not returning back to 3G automatically after i moveed to good reception area.
Is there a problem with 3GS? or is it just secific to certain Handset. Please let me know. As per the input, i will take up with Apple.
    Thanks in Advance.

First of all , please excuse me for my english.
However i totally agree with infenitely.
    1) 1 person with a problem: is not an issue. 2 Persons: can be. Many persons (and in this forum seems to be this case) : is a problem. Many persons all around the world (this is my 5th forum this evening): is a statistical mess.
    2) Production processes : is something that i don't want to ear. I paid for something that had to have some characteristcs and (actually) it has half of what it was supposed to have. (in italy I paid 619 € for a 16gb).
    3) assistance: is not possible to spend 25 minutes calling the Italian Apple Phone Number (0,48 € per minute) and then the first time the call dropped and the second time the person told me "i'm afraid, i cannot help you, probably depends on you provider.." or some other stupid answers that shows the incompetence of this Apple Operator.
I'm using it since one week ago (previously i had an iphone 3g) and right now this is what happened to me:
    a) if during a phone call i receive a Text Message or an email, sometimes the call drop, other times i start to ear a metallic rumor and i have to drop the call.
    b) with any reason the phone switch from 3g to GPRS (i don't have edge): i can say with any reason because the other phone i'm using for work (nokia E71) in the same place "on the other side of the table" has a full 3g signal.
    c) during the internet navigation, it freeze like if there is no signal and then i have to power off and then power on it to navigate again
    d) many times during the day it "says" no phone signal - impossible to do phone calls" (mre or less translating the italian phrase), when the other phones (mine and of my colleagues) has no problem.
So is a statistical problem: the only thing i hope is to have the possibility to speak with someone of Apple Italia really expert that can help me on this trubles.
Excuse me again for my English

  • E71 lost icons and call register not working

    Hi!
Suddenly my Nokia E71 started to work strange: all the icons in the main page disappeared, including the call notification, message received, etc., only the clock, bat and signal icons remain. Also the call register does not work: when I try to get in, goes back and doesn't even close when pushing the Exit button.
Tried changing configuration, profiles, etc with the same result. Also tried to update but Ovi shows it has the latest firmware version.
    What can I do?
    Andrés.

Check the standby mode by going to Tools>Settings>Personalisation>Standby>Active standby and make sure that active standby is on. This should bring up the other icons on the main page.
The other problem with the call register sounds more serious. Since there is no update available, I can only suggest resetting the phone using the *#7370# code but you could lose your data so you need to backup your phone before hand.

  • I Give up on E71

Just two months down the lane n my E71 has already started showing problems.
The company claims stanby battery duration of 15days but mine doesnt last long than a hour.
To add up to tat the portion near my camera gets heated up for no good reason and for that even my camera has blurred up.
All these ve jus taken up my faith n reliability on nokia...

Please tell me where a phone lasts in real world where the company be it Nokia Motorola Sony etc as long as it says it does, because I dont know where?
I want a phone that does everything takes pictures, emails continuously, makes 3 hour phone calls and in must be about the size of a credit card and lasts 2 months between charges  - this isn't going to happen.
Your battery could be faulty if it doesnt last an hour then this is a problem.
As for the camera getting hot this sounds like a defect, and heat is generated by consuming power, and this could explain why your battery is not lasting as long, however because the majority of the external casing of the E71 is stainless steel, it could be heat generated by battery discharge and you actually holding the phone, but if it is getting hot then take it to a care point.
    /discussions/board/message?board.id=topfaq&thread.id=3
That link will help you find a care point in your local area,
The phone battery, is a chemical device which means its variable for a start, next the phone is tested in a lab with specific standards set with signal power and temperatures.
This means that under testing with only basic services this is how long the battery will last. If you have other stuff running then it will consume more power.
The battery is getting hot I'd imagine because of the rate it is being discharged, the heat is being conducted by the back of the case from the battery at a guess.

  • E71 - Software Update now GPS takes 15min to lock ...

Basically I updated my E71 to the 210 firmware and now it
takes 15 minutes for the GPS to lock onto the satellites. I took the phone to
the care centre in the hopes they could run the old version of the software
    back onto the phone.
They were very nice and the service was good. The only
problem is they didn’t fix the problem.
They said the Technician replaced an important signal device
in the phone, no more description than that was given. I tested the phone there
and still had the same issue with the GPS.
When I was using the phone before the latest update the GPS
took less than 30 Seconds to lock on. This was great but I tried to explain
this to the technician and he kept going on how it takes 15 minutes the first
time which can’t be right unless I was just unusually lucky the first 50 or so
times I would have used the phone before.
Now since I have been using the phone after taking it to be
fixed I find it is interfering with audio equipment where you can hear the noise
of the phone trying to get a network signal which never happened until I took
it to the Nokia Care Centre.
I am at a loss now because the GPS still takes 15 minutes or
more to lock onto a satellite signal and now the phone is causing interference
    with audio equipment.
I have actually tried emailing Nokia through the contact us
form on the site which does not seem to be working. I will call them during the
week but I fear I will not be able to explain the issue to the service centre
staff as it got me nowhere in the first place.
Has this ever happened to anyone?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Thanking you kindly scoobyman.
I did actually change the setting in -
    -Home menu
    -Tools
    -Settings
    -General
    -Positioning
    -Positioning Server
    -Access Point.
Access point is what I had orriginally changed to none.. which I actually thought was a smart Idea because I was under the impression that it would ammount to data charges on my plan here in Australia.
A day ago I had changed the access point back to the orriginal setting... and would you know it... all fixed.. GPS is back to its chirpy self again and locking on in less that 30 seconds as apposed to the technicians 15 minutes.
Now I am really annoyed with the fact that the Technician has buggered something up internally when it was just a setting.
I am going to have to take the phone back to the repair centre to fix what they broke.
Thanks for the help though and I hope if anyone else has the same problem they dont go to the service centre first thing!

  • Msg about no signal, no bars, then poof full signal all in 3-5sec

So, I've had my iphone for about two weeks. In that two weeks I've been using my phone when a pop up message comes up saying (next time I'm going to write it down) something about not being able to connect to the network (and there are 0 bars). I click ok, and then immediately after the phone gets full signal again and works like a champ.
The last time it happened was yesterday and it was while I was looking at an app store review for something.
I did some searching, saw a lot of "signal" posts, but without digging through pages I didn't see a similar post. Is this a hardware or just local network issue? Stopped by the ATT store on my way home and asked (with little expectation) and of course was told by the guy that helped me that he'd never heard of such a thing, and that I should just reboot the phone and it should be ok.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks,

OP, there's hundreds of posts in this forum that just don't get it, a sad read about blathering about poor signals and all that. Apple and ATT are telling users to turn off 3G on the iPhones (the only ATT-branded phone available today that disables WCDMA without a hack or SEEM-edit; if you don't know what SEEMs are, that's a whole different read).
First, the bars on the 3G network aren't "signal" - it's a representation/ratio of power available to the CDMA/WCDMA device compared to the noise on the network - Ec/No. Apple changed the "bars" from the originally-mapped RSSI (wrong) to Ec/No (correct) - I posted about this months ago.
For ATT, every WCDMA device on a network - the boxes on the towers _and every single 3G cell phone_ generates noise - and the system has to be balanced to work properly. Resets are acceptable. Verizon's completely controlled device deployment (I have a VZW PDA to go with the iPhone) keeps conflicts to a minimum and their system power balanced. Each cell phone is a potential disruptive force within a network - and most of the posters in this forum don't get that; read the analogy at the bottom of this wiki:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Near-far_problem
Your iPhone, moving from place to place, is a potential source of disruption to other ATTWS 3G devices. When you move from near a window in your house to the basement with your phone in your pocket, you're changing the power balance of the network around you and the ATTWS phones in your area - if a bus with 10 ATTWS subscribers drives by your house, that temporarily disrupts your connection to the network. If a couple of people down the street use unlocked 3G phones from across the pond that aren't set up to work well with the ATT 3G network, you'll all have less-than-stellar service - VZW controls all of their phones and the software on those devices; I've had two dropped calls on my VZW PDA since February and none on my V325 in over two years, in part due to VZW's vast experience with CDMA networks.
ATTWS is new to the CDMA networking thing, and they don't control the types of phones on their network - I know guys with E71s, unlocked 3G RAZRs direct from MOTO, O2 and Telstra phones in my neighborhood, and I've got a wireless broadband card, and we live near three major roads carrying tens of thousands of cars and hundreds of full buses everyday - a networking nightmare for ATTWS with unlicensed devices competing for data and voice capacity.
Wipe your iPhone, start with a fresh firmware and install your apps, install apps from your PC/Mac and not via the 3G network, get one of the new ATTWS SIM cards (out for a few weeks now), and don't move around your house/office quite so much - and it wouldn't hurt to get a repeater (ATTWS is currently in closed beta testing of femtocells to help equalize the network loading). VZW tells us that they won't guarantee our phones will work in our houses - they just don't tell us why. The reps in the ATTWS stores are generally clueless - or they'd be working somewhere else - the stores are retail outlets, not tech help centers. BTW, all smartphones and PDAs should be rebooted periodically - don't let anybody tell you differently - the iPhone's got at least six radios stuffed in it and in close proximity to a processor, all in a box that fits in your pocket; XP boxes go wonky if the network goes down, your iPhone or my Treo do the same when they're cut off from the network, and they do sleep from time to time.
Another reason that your "bars" go away - I live near both 1900 and 850 towers; using Test Mode confirmed it for me, and I can see the bars go to zero when my iPhone's likely changing from one network to the other or when it goes to sleep, and my Treo does it to, to conserve battery power or when they get bumped off the network.
Apple's got to work on their software a little more to get the power balancing thing down, but my backup Z9 and my mom's V3xx get bumped off too. It's not just them, it's you too. Don't waste too much time poking around these forums, head over the iPhone and ATTWS forums at HowardForums.com - they've been at it a lot longer and have some posters that really have an idea of what's going on. And, take your iPhone to an Apple Store - they have diagnostic software that can troubleshoot issues and failures; Apple generally doesn't moderate these forums like HoFo, but just edits out bad behavior - at HoFo, the mods chime in and seek to help out.
That's my last post here in these forums, good luck.
