E71, Starbucks WiFi, Browser Locks Up

I have an e71 (North America, unlocked) and the WiFi works fine everywhere except at Starbucks, including other public WiFi spots like Panera Bread.  Once Starbucks log-in page fully loads, the browser locks up.  Interestingly the problem doesn't start until the page fully loads, I can move the cursor and even type for a couple of seconds.  I've managed to connect once, after a bunch of tries but haven't gotten it to work since and I'm not sure how I managed to get it to work that one time.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks!

is it a starbucks or a at&t hosting script and/or portal that you are running into?
is starbucks and/or at&t forcing you to use a portal, then at&t can host the the script within the portal code in order to view your browser contents. clear your browser first since your browser hx would be visible.?
i would want to know how the portal is coded. could there be a third party script on the portal, until you exit portal script?
if you are in a controlled portal, so you remain on that portal when you surf, are you held within  frames of the portal window, ie like surfing with a proxy?

after my mac is left standing over 20 to 30 minutes it drops my secured wifi and locks on to some neighbor's unsecured wifi

Go to system preferences, then network, select wifi tab on the right, click the lock icon on the bottom left and type an administrator's password, then click on advanced. When in the advanced menu, select the tab: WiFi. Locate your neighbor's wifi and select it, and press the minus button and click ok. This should stop your computer remebering your neighbor's wifi.

  • Firefox & foxmarks on ipod touch for wifi browsing?

I'm thinking of getting a 32gb touch for a video player when i work out and so i can have a wifi browser when i don't feel like taking the MBP out of the bag....
Will the touch instal firefox with foxmarks? that way i can have all my "bookmarks" when i use wifi....
also what are the limits of the touch? can i go to my google mail and my hotmail accounts? does the touch do flash yet?
    thanks for the help...

As far as I know -- no Firefox or Foxmarks. Safari on the Touch will sync bookmarks with Internet Explorer, so what I did was to clear out all Favorites in IE (since I don't use it anyway) and imported my Bookmarks from Firefox into IE. I then cleaned those up and deleted quite a few, since I had tons that I didn't need or want on the Touch, and did the sync with IE favorites.
It at least got my bookmarks onto the Touch. There's no way to keep them synchronized with Firefox, but in my case at least that isn't a real problem.

  • How to change the E71's default browser?

Even though the E71's default browser is not bad at all, I prefer using Opera Mini.
An example: the page [http://www.sei.cmu.edu/productlines/about_pl.html] just doesn't render ok in my E71 when using the default browser. The entire left side of the page doesn't show up. Needless to say that Opera Mini renders it nicely.
So, my question is: how do I change the browser used by the phone by default?

For the site you list in your link, open it with the default browser, and then zoom to 50%.  It almost looks right.
There are a lot of sites that the default browser, and even Opera Mini 4.2, do not render properly.

  • Bridge Browser and WiFi Browser Issues???

    Hey everyone,
I've had my Playbook since day one and I have been having issues that I can't seem to get resolved involving the Brdige Browser and WiFi browser.
On the Bridge Browser I can't browse to any webpages. I simply get a non-descript "Not Authorized HTTP://whatevertheurlwas.com" error message. Ive tried dozens of pages, reset the bridge, to no avail.
The other issue is with the WiFi browser. When I try to login to an Exchange 2010 OWA webmail site, I can't click certain check boxes (they arent grayed out, the clcik just wont function). Also - when I try and navigate to a SharePoint 2010 site I get an "Error - A network error has occured" message. It is accessible fine via an iPad, laptop, and desktop computer but not from the Playbook browser.
    Any ideas??

I spent about 3 hours with Support on this last night.
Explanation makes sense...could not verify it yet.
Bridge Browser by default uses "Blackberry Browser" to surf the net. If this option is disabled by BES Admin (assumption here is that you are on BES), you will not be able to surf the net. If you have BIS services also, your Blackberry  handset (assumption here is that you are on OS v6) tries to open a site through "Blackberry Browser" and then defaults through "Internet Browser"...which is why you are probably surf the net through your handset without any issues.
To verify this, install OS v5 and that gives you the option of picking the browser for your handset. If you get the same message after selecting "BLackberry Browser" on your phone...the above explanation can be confirmed. I am going to try it on my older Blackberry handset with OS v5 over the weekend.
Solution if the above explanation is verified:
Running the web browser in work mode
If the Allow Browser IT policy rule is set to Yes and you configure the BlackBerry® MDS Connection Service to connect a BlackBerry smartphone to the Internet and intranet, a BlackBerry® PlayBook™ tablet that is connected to the smartphone can run the web browser in work mode.
When the web browser runs in work mode, it does not use the Wi-Fi® connection that it uses when it runs in personal mode. Instead, the web browser can connect to the Internet or your organization's intranet using the smartphone's connection to the BlackBerry MDS Connection Service. The tablet encrypts any cached data that is stored on the tablet using the BlackBerry® Bridge™ work key.
A BlackBerry PlayBook tablet user can access the web browser in work mode by clicking the browser icon in the BlackBerry Bridge panel on the tablet, or by clicking on a link in a work application. When a user clicks a link in any work application, such as a link in work email messages, work calendar entries, the contact list, tasks, memos, or BlackBerry® Messenger messages, the web browser runs in work mode if any of the following conditions exist:•
    No Wi-Fi connection is available•
Web address does not contain periods•
MDS Browser Domains IT policy rule includes the domain of the web address•
Web address consists of a private IP address as specified in RFC 1918•
Value of the Wi-Fi Internet Access Path IT policy rule is set to "Access through BlackBerry MDS Connection Service"
If these conditions do not exist, the web browser runs in personal mode and connects to the Internet using a Wi-Fi connection.
The web browser cannot run in work mode if it cannot access the BlackBerry MDS Connection Service.

  • Starbucks wifi free music iTunes Store download fails

The Starbucks wifi home page offers free weekly music downloads through the iTunes store. I click on the 'free' icon and iTunes opens up, telling me it's ready to download the music. It then offers the familiar iTunes Store login (username and password). But, when I enter my password to download the song (and I know I am using the correct password) the download does not begin. The iTunes Store login widget appears again - I am  asked to re-enter my password. No matter how many times I type in my known, correct password, the cycle continues (rejection of my password and request to reenter it).
This has been happening (or, *not* happening) for some time now. I've reset my password and that did not fix the problem. I also 'authorized' my laptop and that did not solve the problem.
I'm stuck. I've sent an email to Starbucks technical help and they were unable to offer any constructive, illuminating answers for their end of this, but did say I should contact Apple for support.
Might someone know how to solve this?
    Thank you/anyone for your help.
    Glen

thanks for the help. I followed your advice, but the song is not listed in the purchased history. If i try to purchase the song again, itunes informs me that I have already purchased the song but have not downloaded it. Issue still not resolved

  • Browser lock's up after "click" Tools\Options: cleard hist, emotied trash, upgraded 2 times, re-booted,,, WTF?

I actually do have another issue as well which may be cause, but not sure.
example: folder on desktop is opened, (call it "iky") then that same folder, iky has several folders within "miky, riky, diky; so I now open riky. Now I open a 2nd iky, if I now open miky, riky,or diky, win explorer will always restart.
This may or may not be related to the issue at hand
    (browser LOCK-UP)
All works fine except when you click (Tools tab) then click (Options tab) the other selectable tabs, under tools work fine.

Downloaded Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit which contains the latest imagex program.
Running imagex.exe on the BASE7.WIM file on the second System Recovery DVD:
    imagex.exe /info K:\PRELOAD\BASE7.WIM
    ImageX Tool for Windows
    Version: 6.2.9200.16384
    Error opening file [K:\PRELOAD\BASE7.WIM].
    The data is invalid.
The same error message is shown for BASE7.WIM, BASE8.WIM, and BASE9.WIM.
The other WIM files in the PRELOAD directory, BASE5.WIM, BASE6.WIM, BASE10.WIM, BASE13.WIM, BASE15.WIM, BASE17.WIM and BASE23.WIM, could be read by imagex without any errors.

  • Mac Book Pro Wifi Data Locked up/freezes.

Hello, i have had this problem now for about 3 months.  I have tried to search for the issue but i may be missing some key terms so if this is a known topic or somone can provide a link to a solution i would love it.
So i primarly use my MBP on wifi in the home, i have an ipad on wifi, pc laptop on wifi and a hardwired TV.  Sometimes while on the computer all of a sudden i will stop getting data from the internet, usualy i notice because a webpage loads about half way or does not load at all then i get the thinking wheel in the web browser.  If i turn off the wifi card, wait about 15 seconds then turn it back on it always comes right back on and away i go.
For some details  It is a Mac Book Pro 8,2 16gig ram, OS10.6.8  all security and software is up to date.  I recently put a new hard drive in the machine and use the migration assistant to transfer everything across from the old one but with a fresh install of the OS.  The problem existed before and after the HDD swap.  I use Chrome as the primary browser, but it is not application spesfic, mail and safari both loose the network data as well.  I do not have a lot of large downloads, 90% of my network use is e-mail, and web no bit torrents or streaming on this computer.  Finaly to see if it was the router while the laptop is locked up the other devices on wifi and hard lined all still work fine.  Also according to the laptop i still have 100% wireless strength and connection, i dont have any other wifi networks so i can not try to switch to another one, the only fix i have found is to click "turn airport off" wait a second, then back on.  Also time does not seem to be a part of it, i can have the machine running all day for several days no issues, then it goes down, or i just open it up and in an hr it locks.
To me i hate to hear that it is a bad network card in the computer, but if anyone knows if there is maybe a setting or somthing i can reset on the network card that may be setting me up on a "timed lease" of my ip address, thanks for the help.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Boot from your original install DVD and run Repair Disc and Repair Permissions, this might then allow you to Boot as normal and have all your data intact.
If not then you need to re-install the OS from that same DVD but select 'Archive Install' and it will preserve your User data and Applications.

  • N8 browser locks up with youtube.

Youtube constantly lockes the browser. Normally a hard rest is only possibility. Sometimes it is possible to close the browser but then the wifi connection fails an a restart is necessary. Anyone else?

I had a similar problem with my N8 last night. Sitting in a hotel bar with family I searched youtube for a spoof rainbow program video. It started playing, then after about 15 seconds the phone froze. Frozen still image showing on the screen, screen lit up, unable to get any response from phone at all. It stayed like this for a good hour or more until we went back to our room and I tried calling the phone from my spare one. I could hear the call ringing tone on the spare but no ringing and  nothing showed on the N8. However the phone did report an incoming call in a popup on my laptop screen via ovi suite which was still connected. I clicked on the popup to answer the call but couldn't hear anything on the phone. Tried holding on button down for upwards of 30 seconds.. nothing. swapped SIM cards, still nothing. In the end I held down the menu key, volume buttons and then hit the on button for about 5 secs and wahey! it went off and I was able to re-start it. and I still have all my data (a fluke?) I'm gonna make sure I back this phone up on a regular basis just in case.

  • Can't connect to wifi after connecting to Starbucks wifi

I know it sounds awkward that I can't connect to any wifi network after I connected to Starbuck's at&t wifi network, but that is the last time I've been able to. I'm not sure if it's just a coincidence or if that is the reason I haven't been able to after this. I had 2.1 since day 1 and it worked always perfectly until Starbucks that one time. A few days later, I updated to 2.2 and still everything is fine except for the wifi, same issue.
Issue: Wifi is on and it just keeps showing "Choose a network..." with the icon spinning, but no networks show up. Ask to Join networks is on, but when I go to any program, it doesn't ask to join anymore. I've tried resetting network settings, turning on/off normally, doing a hard reset by holding down and not turning it off normally. I don't know what else to try. Nothing with the network router has changed, but even then I would expect it to list it at least or show all the other networks around the apartment, but none show up. My wife's phone connects to it fine. I've also tried clicking on Other... and then putting in the network name and it doesn't find anything. Something is abnormally wrong.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hmmm.....
It's worth a hard reset (press and hold the sleep/wake button and the Home button together, ignoring the 'slide to power down' message and then release them when the display blanks. Press the sleep/wake button until the logo appears and then wait for the restart which takes a little while...)
Apart from that, it may be worth clearing Safari's cache, etc..... (Settings > Safari > Clear History/Cookies/Cache)
    In any event, 'Good luck'!!
If all else fails it IS possible that some WiFi hotspots are VERY hot and emit more power than is really allowable in the Standards, resulting in 'frying' your WiFi receiver (possible but unlikely). If this is the case, return your iPhone to an Apple store with the 'WiFi not working' message but don't mention Starbuck's or anyone else.....just don't use Starbuck's WiFi service ever again!

  • When I try to connect to my wifi a lock symbol comes up...what does that mean

When I try to connect to my wifi on my iphone 4 a lock symbol comes up...what does that mean?

The lock symbol doesn't go away when you join your network.  When you join it it will show a check mark next to it and a wifi symbol will appear on the top left of your screen.

  • My wifi is locked!

Ok,, so my mum bought me a wireless router like a year ago or so and it worked fine on all the laptops and computers and apple products and stuff. But recently, I got a netbook from my school and they said we could use our own wifi for it if we wanted to when we took it home. So I got the netbook and brought it home but when I connected it to the wifi it wold me to enter a pin and a name. So I didn't really know what I was doing and I entered some numbers off the back of the wifi and I named the wifi "Mollie" so now the wifi works fine on the netbook which I am on now but on my iPod and iPad it shows a little lock symbol next to it and asks me to type in a password. i've tried all sorts of different passwords and all the numbers and stuff off the back of my router but it still won't work! I have looked for answers all over the net and people always say that I have to buy a new router! Please tell me that this isn't true, my mum won't buy me another one and I really want to go on the internet on my iPad!

    Welcome to Cisco Home Community,
You don't need a new router. The reason why your iPad is not connecting to the internet wireless it is because your router has security enabled on it that you need to enter correctly in yor iPad. Here is the link for your to check the wireless security on your router.

  • Problem using Starbucks WiFi (Fibertel) in Argentina

I have a newer (Bought withing the last year) Macbook Pro, and i am currently living in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Whenever i go to Starbucks, i connect to the local Fibertel connection they offer. Everything works fine, except that every 30 min it kicks me off and i have to re-"fake sign up". And once i am connected, nothing from Apple works (MobilMe, iChat, Mail, etc)
I never have a problem when i use WiFi else where in the city, only here.
Does anyone know a solution to this problem?

I know. So for that you may need to put up with some slight variations in their service. here in the States they use AT&T for their wireless. Very occasionally I re-sign in. But it's free and..."they let you plug in your laptop and sit there all day long. No one else here lets you do that."

  • HT1212 Wifi is locked.  How do I get in?

The Wifi on my iPad locked when I connected to AT&T because I'm going out of town.  I want to use my wifi at home but it is locked.  It shows Airport Express and asks for a password.  I've tried every password and it does nothing.

Connect it to the computer, open iTunes and restore from the latest backup. If that doesn't work try restoring it as new. Then create a new passcode and write it down somewhere and don't tell anyone what it is.

  • Data plan limits include WiFi browsing?

I will be picking up my first Ipad soon and feel that 4G could be helpful for me 3 or 4 months out of the year. My understanding is that you can activate and deactivate the 4G plan with Verizon or AT&T on a monthly basis.
There is a note under the the Ipad data plan listings at the Apple Store which states regarding data limits "Includes Wi-Fi browsing; refer to carrier website for terms and conditions". I have had trouble finding these terms on either Verizon or AT&T's website. What exactly does this note mean? I am assuming that using WiFi at home or at another free hotspot does not impact these data limits but find this statement confusing.
Another question would be whether it is possible to turn off 4G on the Ipad itself temporarily so as not to use a cellular signal at all.
I have never had a cellular data plan so hopefully you will excuse my question. The size and features of the Ipad leads me to think it is time to pull the trigger.
