E71 switch off 3G to use WLAN only

Hi
Ive just purchased an E71. I only have a finite amount of download data on my plan (Virgin) and travel overseas a bit. On the iphone apparently 'data roaming' can be switched off, so the phone cant access its 3G network (say to get emails overseas via Virgin in Australia- VERY expensive) but will link to available wireless networks in a cafe, or library.
Can I do this on the E71? Make it download email only via local, wireless networks as opposed to Virgin's 3G network?
M

You should set your email to manual update and to set connectivity to "ask first".

  • How to switch off the computer using the key on the keyboard?

    Hi,
i've been using Mountain Lion for a while on my MBPr and when I wanted to switch off my mac, I used the key on the dashboard, then it asked me whether I wanted to switch off, restart or go on sleep mode... Now though with Mavericks, this button only makes it go on sleep mode...how to change the function of this key, in order to switch the computer off instead of sleep mode or how to get the window asking me what to do back?
    Thanks,
    BadGoldEagle

It's a laptop, and when I don't use it i put it in a case and hide it (I've been burgled several times and I don't want to lose my Mac...
About my friend: He was using his laptop when he had to go out (groceries....) and because he was in bed, he left it under his blanket to hide it form view... he put his computer to sleep. Unfortunately, windows update noticed something needed to be updated and switched back on the computer and during the update, it became kinda hot and it burned the CPU... bad...
You'll understand I don't want to do that to my mac...
And now all i have to do is wait 'till Apple brings an update to fix that...

  • How to switch off ClearType (not system-wide, only app-internally)

    Hi guys,
hope you can help out on this one, which gives me a hard time for around two weeks now:
Basically my code starts something like this:
    #include <windows.h>
    #include <stdio.h>
    #pragma comment(lib, "user32.lib")
    int main(int argc, char *argv[])
    { SystemParametersInfoW(SPI_SETFONTSMOOTHING, FALSE, 0, SPIF_UPDATEINIFILE | SPIF_SENDCHANGE);
SystemParametersInfoW(SPI_SETFONTSMOOTHINGTYPE, 0, (PVOID)FE_FONTSMOOTHINGSTANDARD, SPIF_UPDATEINIFILE | SPIF_SENDCHANGE);These two lines have the effect I want to, which is switching off ClearType and smoothing-Features, like the app "ClearType-Switch" does for example.
Problem here: I do NOT want this to happen globally, instead I need this swithcing-off-effect only on my app itself.I am not very much into things like Logfont and GDI, so hopefully you got some quick idea on this.

    Hi CybeRRobotniC,
I think this answer is helpful for this issue in the thread. Please check Leo Davidson's answer :
    "You can use
    GetObject to get a
LOGFONT structure for an HFONT, then adjust the anti-aliasing flags on the LOGFONT, then create a new HFONT via
    CreateFontIndirect.
(Don't forget to destroy the font somewhere, after no control is using it anymore.)"

  • I lost my iphone, gps is off and its now switched off, can i use serial number to find it?

i lost my iphone tonite i tried to check it with icloud but it showed offline, i rang many times but the phone now is switched off, is there any possible to use serial number to locate my iphone?

For Find My iPhone to work, several things need to happen: the iPhone needs to be connected to the internet, the iPhone needs to not have been wiped. I believe it will turn on Location Services if it receives a Find My iPhone request, but I am not sure.
While the phone is off (or your software and settings are wiped), it can do nothing to help you find it.

  • HT204407 Why does my find friends keep flashing. It is so annoying I have to switch off. I use a mini ipad

I have a mini iPad. On my find friends it keeps flashing and is driving me crazy. It doesn't do it on my husband iPad though. Please help.

Not a great answer...  Next time it happens instead of turning Home Sharing on and off I would try shuting off iTunes on the computer and then restarting iTunes.  If ATV can then connect to home sharing the problem is iTunes is hanging.  If that is the case my only idea is re-installing iTunes.

  • Mini suddenly cuts / switches off

    Hi,
I own a Mac Mini (1,42GHz, 1Gig ram) and recently it's done some strange things. While working it suddenly switched off. It was like somebody just cut the power. I pushed the button to turn it on again and the led would only appear for about 1s before the mini cut off again. When waiting for about an hour leaving it switched off it worked again, but only for a few minutes. My first guess was a problem with the overal power (bad contact or something) so I tried the mini in another plug and in another house, but the problems continued. I couldn't run the hardware test since it kept cutting off before it could complete any test.
Then I decided to visit the local Apple store (not a 'real' one as it's a shame they don't exist in Brussels, but a certified reseller). I wanted to ask them if they could try it with a different power supply as that might be the issue. However, since I bought the mini from the online Apple store and not their store they weren't allowed to test it unless I brought it in officially, paid them, would pay them more if they couldn't find anything and they would send it to Apple for repair.
So I decided to call Apple first and they had never heard of the problem. I reset the PMU (?), tried some stuff, but nothing worked. They told me to go through the local store to get it sent to them if the problem persisted. So the next day I wanted to reproduce the problem before going to the store to show them right away and the mini worked for about 5 hours straight. It seems the longer I left it switched off, the longer it work afterwards. When waking up from a sleep it crashed again. Then I thought it wouldn't turn on again like it did all the time the day before. However it ran perfectly for 2 whole days. Since the mini is pretty essential for my studies I gave it another try and decided not to bring it in. I was able to run the hardware test which told me everything's ok.
Right now it works pretty well, but it still suddenly cuts off every once in a while (about once a week). Did anyone ever have this problem before or has a hint on how to prevent this from happening? Would it be better to bring it in for repair anyway? My fear is that they'll leave it on for a week, see that it works perfectly and send it back saying there's nothing wrong with it. In case nobody knows what to do I did think it would be a good idea to post the problem here anyway to make it known.
Greetings and sorry for the long story .
    Edward.

Only valid entry in Apple's Error Codes List for -127:
    -127 = fsDSIntErr /*non-hardware Internal file system error*/
You have probably seen the -93 (or was it 96) and -122 PMU codes, but 127 is a first for anyone it seems, even Google won't find a -127.
The -93/96 remedies were mostly centred around PMU resets.
The -122's were a little bit more involved. A Googled report lists the local Apple Store saying it would need a logic board replacement. The user was a bit miffed when 5 days later his machine is ready to be picked up and only the battery was replaced. It PMU forced shutdown -122 again after arriving home. He bought a conditioning UPS and plugged his Mac into that and so ended the report. No further information available on if it solved the problem or not.
Add to that users shutting down and running DiskWarrior/TechToolPro checks of the hard drives as all the -12x error codes are file system related. However when I grep'd the headers list of CarbonCore for -93 it is a network bridging error, and -96 is a Serial port not powered error, so I have doubts that the PMU is using the standard Mac error codes list.
Apple's own online support database is mysteriously silent on any PMU forced shutdown entries.

  • System doesn't want to switch off(arch+notebook)

I just have installed the system. I have installed only base packages from new core image. System works good but doesn't want to switch off. After using shitdown -h now or poweroff or halt all as usally but after appearance inscription Power off nothing is going on.
If I nothing to do in the system then it swithes off good. But when I am mounting disks for example then the same problem. If I am mounting disk then unmounting all is good. With mounted disks which I didn't touch during installing system very  rare swith off correctly but without them always all is good. It seems strange for me... what relationship between mounting and switching off...maybe it's just coincidence..I don't now.
Maybe something wrong with acpi? While only base-packeges are in the system. Maybe it needs other packages for notebook?
What do you think? And by the way, excuse my english)

    Welcome to the forum, Arteomp!
Does it hang up while powering off ? did you try to reinstall sysvinit-mod ? or the core packages ?
I just have reinstalled the system but in this time I have mounted disks during installing. The same situation but now system switch off never even if I unmounting disks before.
It hungs up in the last moment after all operation. After inscription Power Off in the terminal nothing to do and system hangs up.
By the way, before i used Ubuntu on this notebook and switching off was working correctly exept for stand by and hibernate

  • Won't switch off/on: Rebooting Cycle

The sleep/wake button appears to have stopped working (although can be depressed). The get the iPod to work, one must give it power and then use immediately after unplugging before it goes to sleep. It won't switch off, but after use (and when would normally auto-lock) goes into an apparent rebooting cycle where the screen goes from black (off) to lighting up with Apple logo, and back to black (off) - it will continue in this cycle until the battery dies. Once it is in this cycle, the sleep/wake and home buttons do not function.
    Any ideas?
I've tried holding sleep/wake and home buttons for 10 secs to reset - no change.
I've tried connecting it to the computer and checking for updates - the only one which comes up is an update which requires payment for, and I'm loathed to do this in case the iPod is broken and ends up in the bin! The iPod Touch is only 18 months only.

    2 possibilities:
o Your iPod has a software-based error. Solution: On iTunes, click on the "Restore" button in your iPod's page.
o Your iPod has a physical problem. Solution: Depending on the actual problem, go to an apple store, and they will tell you if they can do anything to it. If they can't, I'm sorry, but your iPod's good for the bin.

  • Difference between Switch -off and disable of an aggregate.

    Hi All,
Can any one please tell me whats the difference between Switch-off and Disable an aggregate?
    Appreciate ur help.
    Thanks,
    Soumya.

    Hi,
You can temporarily switch off an aggregate to check if you need to use it. An aggregate that is switched off is not used when a query is executed.
To do this select the relevant aggregate and choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Switch On/Off. An aggregate that is switched off is marked in column Filled/Switched off with This graphic is explained in the accompanying text.
Since aggregates that are switched off must also be consistent, you do not have to activate the aggregate again or to fill it when you switch it back on.
Execute a query or trace that would use the aggregate that was switched off. Compare the time that the database needs with the time that the query needs when using the aggregate. If the query is not significantly slower without the aggregate, you can deactivate or delete the aggregate.
The system deletes all the data and database tables of an aggregate. The definition of the aggregate is not deleted.
    Deactivation
Select the required aggregate and choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Deactivate.
The status display in the columns Status and Filled/switched off change back to This graphic is explained in the accompanying text.
If you want to, you can activate and fill the aggregate again later.

  • Mike and/or speaker kept switching off during phone calls

I just returned my 4s after less than 24 hours and have gone back to my 3 because teh mike and/or speaker kept switching off during calls using the handset, the apple headset and my blueant bluetooth, they could not replace it today so I returned it and may repurchase at a latter date if this is not at common problem... has anyone else had this problem?

    KBurd,
If the proximity sensor is covered by a case, your hand, or by being close to your face, the screen should go dark and unresponsive, but the call should not be disconnected.
Is there anything covering the proximity sensor? It is located between the earpiece and the top edge.
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

I  am using 2 unit provided AC charger to charge my iPad mini. After a while, I checked the device. The battery is no longer in charge mode. It is only 80% charged. When I touch the AC charger, it is hot. I need to switch off the AC charger to let it cool down before continue to charge my iPad mini again. Of course it will be 100% charge but must make sure the AC charger is cool down completely.
I feel that the provided AC charger that is not suitable for our charging on iPad mini.
