E71 Wifi Intellisync

Dear All,
I have installed a software on this device (intellisync for S60) in order to sync my emails through an Outlook Exchange account securised with intellisync.
The download of the emails using GPRS connection is fine, but I try unsuccessfully to use the wifi networks to dowload them.
How is that possible to specify that if a wifi connection is available, the system MUST FIRST use it?
Thank you!

This happens with me, too, sporadically, and I have an E71x.
Hope you find the answer.  Can you temporarily disable 3G?  I know when I use Opera Mini, it goes to 3G every time, even with wi-fi ssid's given higher priority, and I can't disable 3G on my AT&T restricted phone.
I've found after a reboot of the phone, it connects to wi-fi without hesitation.  Have you checked out the Nokia Experts site?
Sure would be nice to see some consistency in the products and support...

  • E71 wifi connection works in browser, but not with...

    I need help badly.
On my Nokia E71 I can easily connect to a wireless network and browse the web from the browser. But when I try to read my Gmail from the mail client on the phone I get an error message "Unable to connect to e-mail server". The settings are correct since if I switch to GPRS/3G connection, then the client connects to the server and downloads the messages. This is weird. The same is for VoIP and Fring and Nimbuzz, they all work with GPRS/3G but they don't when I choose wi-fi.
What's more weird is that other people in the building use their person handhelds for the above purposes. The IT guy administering the network assures me no ports are blocked and that's obvious, since people use Skype and check their emails through the same wi-fi spots in the building. I fee l am missing something easy to solve, but I can't get through. Please help!

    Hello mgoksoy,
Thank you for your reply. The problem is not with wifi connectivity option but inability to connect to wifi. For instance, if I run Nimbuzz, the settings are set to request from me each time I start it which connection to use - gprs or wifi. I choose GPRS it works alright, I choose wifi it does not connect and gives me "socket connection failed!" error. I get the same error in other wifi networks, so this is not about one specific wireless network. The same is with other applications, when I choose wifi connection it simply does not connect, like to gmail via nokia email client, I get a "unable to connect to e-mail server" error, whereas if I connect with GPRS, it works fine. And one more important, I can connect to all wifi's and browse the web via browser. But it's just the applications that won't connect and I was thinking if there was a setting in my E71 that need to be adjusted to allow applications wifi connections.

  • E71 wifi and maps issues.

Does anyone have this problem and know how to fix it?
the problem i have is trying to save the maps through wifi (i dont want to use packet data, dont have a plan, although it works and im gonna regret fiddling with it when i get my bill).... it just wont connect in WIFI for maps. i can browse the net, but not download my **bleep** maps!!! and the damn phone keeps refreshing... WHAT THE HELL?!
this is what i do: options-> tools -> go online.... and i get a message saying that theres no connection and i should do options->tools-> go online to go online..(retard phone)
so i figured maybe maps needs to be configured.
so i do options->tools->setttings-> internet  and itll take me back to the main screen of the phone (with the email, text, camera, etc shortcuts)... and it says ' WIFI 1 found'   not connected... how can i connect to wifi without actually going through the 'start browsing' options... kuz as soon as i exit the browser, the phone disconnects.
it worked for a few seconds earlier on butnot anymore

Nokia has some software that you can use where you can preload maps onto a memory card (not the phone) so you don't have to use a data connection for maps.  I used a data cable and this software to put maps onto my 4gb card.
    http://www.nokiausa.com/A4686841
Just a bit of an addition.  Step 4 on that page is the Nokia Map Loader that you use to load the maps onto the phone.  Though you might also download the Nokia Maps application (step 1) for the phone again while you're at it. Just in case you don't have the current version.

  • E71 Wifi Connection Problem

I am a new E71 user, and before everything, here's a little background:
I bought mine in Hong Kong a few weeks back, and I've been using it in Canada since.  One day I received a call from my service provider saying that I have used up quite a bit of pay-per-use data.  I was very surprised because I've been using my Wifi at home.  I also thought I had set up my phone so everytime I surfed the internet I was asked to connect to my Wifi.  I called my provider and asked them to lock my 3G access.  They said ok and that was that.
    1)  How do I prevent the phone from using 3G when browsing?  I had already set the phone to ask me which connection to use everytime the browser is launched.  But still, as mentioned, I was charged for 3G usage.
    2)  Now I am having trouble connecting to my Wifi at home.  All my other devices (a Macbook, a PC, another laptop) are all fine.  I've tried restarting the phone, but no luck.  Wifi connection still worked after I had called my service provider and lock my 3G.
    Please help!
    Thanks!

It sounds as though your phone has always had trouble connecting through the WIFI and this could be a hardware issue. It might be an idea to get the phone checked out at a Nokia service center.
When I browse the net through WIFI I always go through the menu
MENU - CONNECTIONS - WLAN at least that way you are sure of getting the right connection.

  • E71 WiFi problems

My new E71 doesn't recognize wifi in range even that I'm sure that there is one.
when I'm ask him to find a wifi, I receiving the answer that he cant find a wifi in range...
any idea how can I solve this?
    Many thanks
    M

If you've checked and it still can't detect a wifi hotspot that's not hidden, then it's possible that you have a hardware problem.
My E71 detects (i.e. sees) any wifi, even if it's encrypted ... clearly, I can't connect to encrypted wifi until I have the key/password though (as I would expect).
Suggest you go back to the supplier and have them check whether there's a hardware issue.
    My previous phones:
    6310i --> SE K750i --> E50 --> E61i --> E71
... much prefer the Nokia phones, especially the E71

  • E71 Wifi issues

    Hi,
I've had my for a few days now and on the whole like it. I am however very dissapointed with its browser. I'm using a wifi connection at home (No problems connecting) and the browser is extremely slow, and on the whole unusable. For example, the ebay.co.uk homepage takes around 30seconds to display fully. Is there anything I can do to improve speed? I have recently used a Nokia 5800 and Iphone and they both far outclass the E71 in terms of browser speed.
Also, is it possible to have more than one connection on wifi at the same time? My old E65 would let me have numerous applications sharing the same wifi connection. But now, for example, if I'm using opera mini over wifi, then open the native browser, it tells me that I can't connect through wifi because it is already in use.
By the way I have updated to the latest fw.

  • E71 WIFI drain energy even is turned off

    Hi,
I have E71 from 4 weeks, its the best phone ever, in the beggining there was a problem with garmin, but now i close application after using garmin. Now i saw that after restart the energy is normal abount 0,02 - 0,03 but if i start WIFI i browse some sites, when i close browser and turn of WIFI scan there is energy drain every one minute and it is about 1W. Does somebody knows what is the reason? There is picture of Energy Profiler with 2 drains between 1 minute

OK. A few more things I did:
Switched off Active Standby. Also in Themes I told the phone to not show date and time but a text ".". However in complete standby I still got the "jumping bar" with the time in it. Does anybody know how to shut that down also?
I remember from early days, that having a comletely black screen instead of a clock on it, can save you a lot of energy. Reason for that is supposedly, that the phone will a) have to show pixels instead of nothing and b) also hast to constantly repulse/refresh the display every few seconds to make sure it shows the correct time.
    Can anybody confirm that?
Since connection to the network is probably the biggest all time sucker I decided to also note the dB of reception. Which is as low as -50dB. This seems to be good. When I cover the antenna part of the phone the reading gives me -100dB.
Also I turned off UMTS mode and went for only GMS (this however does not seem to make a huge difference).
The best values I could get were 5mA. Averaging over a short but reasonable time span (hold 8 and then scroll) however got me the 8mA again.
Then I had the smart idea of sending the phone to offline mode. However even that leaves me with sometimes 5mA but mostly 7-8 mA (again averaged over reasonable short periods.
That's it ideawise from me. Anybody else? :-)

How do I connect? I have tried all possible settings. Is it impossible to connect with the e71 to this kind of a university wlan network?

This is a very good post of Saataja about your problem. This might help you in the right direction.

How do i connect through WPS?

  • How to use mobile as a wifi internet on pc...

Hello, i want to connect my laptop to internet by using my nokia e71 wifi because my have no wifi. so plz tell me how can i connect my laptop to internet by using mobile wifi?

You need to download and install the latest Ovi suite and install it on your laptop. Connect your phone to your laptop via usb or bluetooth in PC Suite mode. In Ovi suite, goto Tools > Connect to Internet. After setting your country and carrier, the suite will connect you to the internet via your phone.
Note that this will connect you using your phone carrier's network, so you will incur data costs on your phone plan.
If I've helped you, you can thank me by clicking the green 'kudos' star on my post. Cheers.

  • An email service for wifi E71

Im trying to find a service like 'nokia mail for exchange' that I can use when I use wifi. I have not subscribed to an internet provider as it gets quite pricey where I live (China) so am living off the wifi connection.
Is there something I can set up that I can check all my emails at once on like Outlook?
Thanks a lot for any advice! I just got the E71 and Im super excited!

This does not appear to be the case.
It says "typical network fees apply" on the 'set up email account screen'
and if I proceed, it looks like it is trying to use the 3G connection as the icon appears to convey activity.
Can you explain how to do this please?
     oops should add I'm using a 5800

  • Nokia Intellisync on E71?

Since no BB Connect can be found for the E71 I've been looking for alternatives... (instead of ditching the E71 and only using my BB Bold).
I ran across Intellisync which I didn't know existed...
Anyone using it with an E71?
Anyone know the costs involved? (looked everywhere and can't find any info).
Is there a trial or developer version (like BES)?
We're a small shop and use only BES today but I do love my E71 and would like to look at alternatives.
The few screen shot I found online show a UI that is like the new Nokia Email client. How similar are they?
    TIA,
    Todd

    Hi,
may I ask from whereyou got the Intellisync 9 software? I could only find 8.0 and with my E71 it messes up the softkeys and meetinginvitations can be accepted and be sent, but meeting would not show either on E71 nor exchange calendar. Hope that version 9.0 would correct these faults.
    Please advise!
    TIA

  • E71 & Intellisync SCCP Client

Finally got the E71 registered via SCCP on our CUCM 6.1(2) cluster but having a couple of issues.
    1. For some reason when I call the phone from another extension it diverts straight to voicemail without even ringing. The phone displays a missed call but it doesn't ring. I've checked all the call manager and E71 configs but there doesn't appear to be any enabled diverts/forwards? (The same Intellisyn client works fine on an E65!).
    2. The Intellisync won't auto-register when I come back in to WLAN coverage. To get the intellisync client to register I have to switch the phone off the on again.
    Any idea's guys?

    Hi,
Which firmware you have on your device(type *#0000# to idle screen)?
Could you check also the Wlan scan is on (Tools->Settings->Connection->Wireless LAN)
What is the email client you are using?
Could you try does the same thing happen when email client is turned off (or it doesn't use Wlan Access Point)
Are you using the latest client of Call Connect (1.58(2)) ?
Do you have shared-line configuration with some other phone?
When the problem occurs does it help if you go to SCCP settings and turn profile's registration mode to when needed and then back to always on?
I suggest you to register here https://feedback.nokiaforbusiness.com and report this incident also there.

    Hello Kerrigaj,
After a re-install of OS X 10.5.8 uninstalled the E71 in iSync and moved it out of the bluetooth-device list first and completely re-installed it using the bluetooth manager (SystemPreferences/Hardware).
No extra thirdparty-software involved and ever since no problems.
Goodluck - hope it works for you.
