E72 booting to black screen and freezes!

Hi,
This morning I powered my e72 and it worked fine, but then after saying "you have 3 new email messages from..." it went completely blank:
I tried shutting the device down and powering it back on: the result is that I can see the 'backlight' pop on but the screen remains totally black. So the 'nokia shaking hands' don't appear.
I've also tried to hold 'shift+space+backspace' and then a power up, but the screen remains black!
I've just bought the phone yesterday from another guy and it worked great for one day, then it crashed...
Possible causes that I thought of:
Screen broken (but I don't think so because the 'backlight' works.
Maybe I bought a stolen phone and Nokia locked it.
Software crash
If I connect the phone to my PC, it recognizes the phone and all stuff on it...
What should I do?
Edit: I just checked the IMEI number of the phone (under the battery) and it doesn't match with the IMEI number on the box. Does this mean anything?

Hopefully I will still have warranty using my IMEI code.
Last question: Is a salesman from a 'Nokia Care Point' obliged to control the device for free? I ask this because my brother was charged 40 euros to reset his phone last week at a Nokia care point (ripoff imho).
As you say any E72 sold within EU should still have benefit of 24 month warranty although whether "proof of purchase" required or recorded IMEI is sufficient I am not certain.
If you mean firmware having to be re-installed with warranty period due to failure using Nokia Software Updater this should be covered, although additional language pack would be chargeable.

  • NB550D boots into black screen and can't even turn off

I've had my NB550D for just under a month. I've upgraded the memory to 2Gb and the Op System to Home Premium, but nothing else. It's on auto update re security issues and I've stayed with the McAfee protection that was pre-installed (and paid for a year).
Everything fine until a couple of days ago when switching on, I just got black screen. Could hear fan and disk though. Eventually pressed the on/off button, nothing changed, waited a bit, pressed it again and it turned off. When I pressed again it came on as normal. Used it several times over last couple of days and was fine. Now today I switch on and black screen again, and can hear fan. When I eventually pressed switch, I could hear disk whirr but still just black screen. Since then have tried pressing on/of switch occasionally but no change at all - can't even get it to switch off!
Does anyone have any suggestions please?
    Flingel

I read in another forum that the answer is to take the battery out (having already taken the mains out) so it'll die and then press and hold the power button for 30 - 60 seconds. I had nothing urgent to do so let it die naturally when the battery ran out rather than take the battery out when it was on. I then held the power button for 60 seconds, plugged it into the mains and switched on again. It's started fine now but of course I don't know a) whether that's because I held the power button in for 60 seconds and b) whether same thing's going to happen again, so if anybody does have experience of this behaviour, I'd be grateful for comment.
    Thanks

  • Mac pro no boot sound, black screen and loud fans

    Hi everyone,
I've had problems with my Mac for a while now. First of all, it indicated ram problems with 2 beeps. I later fixed this by moving and changing around modules. It was solved, but now a new problem. The Mac seems to turn on, making its iconic sound for startup, but the screen remains black. After about a half to one minute, the fans go crazy and I have to shut it off. I've tried a few things like holding shift or alt, but that doesn't work as it doesn't even display a white screen.
I need to know what to do and I don't really have the time to buy new parts right now. I'm really a windows based pc fixer by the way so I'm new to fixing macs.
    Thanks in advance.

Boot off your *original* G5 Install Disk while holding down Option/alt key to select AHT, then run the extended Apple Hardware Test.

  • My macbook wont boot up, black screen and the cd drive keeps making a constant sound. What to do?

My macbook wont boot up. When I turn it on, the screen turns black right away and the cd/dvd drive keeps making a constant "ejecting" sound.
The strange thing though is that once in a while starts up propperly, but suddely goes black again (after a min. or two), and the ejecting sound comes back. What to do, and yh, I've never done a back up so would it be possible to take out the HD and regain whats in there?
    Any help would be appriciated!

  • IMac boots to a black screen and shows blinking square cursor on top left

iMac boots to black screen and then shows flashing white square in the top left of the screen. After a few seconds an error message - i assume appears.
    disc0s2 oxe0030005 undefined appears.
Does anyone know what this is?
    Can view HDD using firewire
Can load diagnostic disc and run diagnostics with no errors

The disc0s2 should be your OS X boot volume. Have you tried starting from the Install DVD1? Start from the DVD and when you get to the OS X installer go to Disk Utility in the Utilities menu and select First Aid. Choose the top drive in the left hand column and repair. Repair as many times as necessary until no more repairs are reported. Quit Disk Utility. Then go to Startup Disk in the Utilities menu and choose the OS x volume on your Mac and restart.
    Let us know what happens.

  • When I turn on my iMac, it shows a black screen and says 'No bootable device - enter boot cd and press any key'.  Not sure how to fix this.

When I turn on my iMac, it shows a black screen and says 'No bootable device - enter boot cd and press any key'.
I'm not sure what to do, I did not recieve a cd with my mac to boot it up (I ordered it online).
Also I can't find my harware serial number (I've tried many times to input what I thought it may be from my receipt).  I saw that I need this number to contact apple support, my 90 day complimentary support is still valid so I wish to contact them.
I don't know much about apple products as this is my first apple computer so any information is helpful.

Hold down the Alt/Option-key at startup of your iMac to get the Boot Selection screen.
From that choose to boot into OSX.
Once in OSX go to System Preferences then Startup Volume and reset your OSX to be the default.
The new iMacs have OSX 10.7 Lion preinstalled and don't come with any CD/DVD anymore.
Instead OSX Lion includes a new feature called "Lion Recovery".

  • MacBook Pro won't boot - stays on black screen and beeps every few seconds

    Hi,
My MacBook Pro has been having issues - when powered on wont boot past the white screen and more recently will just stay on black screen and beeps every 5 seconds. I had someone look at it and it seems apparently the motherboard is the problem
and either needs fixing or replacing. As I am traveling in Nicaragua the closest apple store is in Managua (capital). Would I be able to get the motherboard looked at and replaced if need be at this apple store? Also, does anyone know the approximate price for the motherboard to be replaced? Up until a few days ago the laptop was still turning on and working every now and then but now stays on black screen and beeps.
Any advice would be very helpful!
    Thanks

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
It means that your Mac's memory is damaged > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2538?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
First, replace the memory modules. You can buy more memory at OWC or Crucial. It can also be replace by a reseller.
If it doesn't work, the RAM slots are damaged, so your logic board has to be replaced. It costs more than a half of the price of your MacBook

  • Ipod touch 2G is black screen and won't restore in Itunes (error 21)

I have aquired an Ipod touch 2g 16g that I was hoping to make a present to my daughter with.  The device is I guess what is called "Black Screen of Death".  I can't get any image to display on the Ipod when trying to charge (which it apparenlty accepts) the item or when trying to connect it to Itunes.  Itunes recongizes the item in recovery mode, and attempts to restore the item and consistantly gives the error 21 message.  I am using Windows 7 and have tried to restore the device on a laptop running Win XP with the exact same results.  The screen will turn white during the process, and the machine will from what I have read and believe go into DFU mode, but it stops with error 21.  I am a Noob and have googled and googled for a week now with no luck.  I have tried the reinstallation of Itunes, all the updates to both Itunes and the machine, no security software, the works.  I tried connecting it to older son's laptop running Win 7 which he uses for his Ipod 2g 32 gig without problems.  My device was recognized on his machine, and he said on his Itunes he briefly saw songs on the device he did not have on his machine/device in his library before it hung again in the recovery mode loop.  I have read different articles and tutorials on jailbreaking and tried loading just the 'oem" firmware from apple with Redsnow and thought i was successful.  The device went through the process of white screen, several boots/dings of on my PC, and then an image appeared on the Ipod of "loading Jailbreak data".  After a few moments/minutes it then began what I believe is displaying the "verbose" booting running the lines of text on the screen.  I then notice it to stop and give me an error of something to the affect of init failed, and then a "lan error, watchdog timeout, giving up, a long pause, then quick scrolls down the screen and reboot back to white screen.  Holding the power button or home/power button puts it right back to a black screen and in the Itunes recovery mode loop/error 21 again.  Can anyone please help me resolve this issue before I pull what's left of my hair out.  I would love to get this working for my daughter before her birthday.  Thanks in advance to anyone who helps.

Common, no one has any ideas?  Well, don't know if this will help, but here's some new data to process.  I noticed that when I was trying to load the firmware with Redsnow w/o installing any options to include Cydia I got errors displayed on the Ipod such as WMR NAND format invalid; NANDLegacyFTL failed.  Someone has got to know something.  I would appreciate any ideas or thoughts from anyone with any idea.  Thanks

  • After errors with disk partition, I removed Windows from my iMac. Now when I start my computer it goes into a black screen and not straight into the Mac area like it used to, unless I hold Alt straight away to give me the option.  Any help?

    Hi,
Sorry, I'm new to the community, so apologies if I'm repeating myself.
OK, so I tried to install Windows Vista onto my iMac with the disk partition.  Everything was going fine and it wasn't until last minute, when it was installed that an error came up saying that this can only be done with Windows 7.  After this error, I couldn't access any errors of my iMac and when I shut down and restarted my computer, it automatically logged into Windows.
So after a panic, I rang Apple Care and the lady helped me log into my apple area, delete Windows from my iMac, and all was restored.
However, now when I shut down my computer and boot it back up, I think my iMac is trying to log into Windows areas that no longer exist.  It loads up a black screen and doesn't move from there.  To log into my Apple area, I have to do the whole process of holding Alt immediately after I switch the power on and access the Mac drive and log in that way.
It's beginning to become a real pain and I'm paranoid this process is going to damage my computer.  Any advice on how to restore logging-in back to it's former glory when I first purchased it?
    Thanks

Solved it.  Thank you very much for that!

  • Boot Camp: Early 2011 MacBook Pro boots to black screen with blinking cursor after windows 7 installation.

I bought and downloaded the windows 7 ultimate edition 64 bit iso, then proceeded to perform a correct burn to a DVD one at the slowest speed and one at the fastest. all went well. so I open Boot Camp assistant and follow the instructions to the letter, downloaded the driver support to the flash drive. partitioned my drive with more than enough room 150 gb. its starts its install. I get through everything seamlessly where I put in my info all with the exception of my activation code. yet it still continues to finalize the install and does another restart. boots back up to either A. black screen saying press any key to boot to my install disk. B. if I take it out just a white curser. also I read it may be because I had the flash drive in while I was trying to boot so I removed it as well, same result. any input would be much appreciated.

  • Mac Pro early 2008 boots to black screen

Four times out of five, on average, the Mac boots to a black screen -- a 30" Cinema Display.
I believe the computer is booting all the way up, because I have the front power button set to put the computer to sleep, and when I manually power down the machine using the power button, the Mac will go to sleep first.
Also, the Mac will go into Firewire disk mode when connected to my MacBook.
The "boot-to-black-screen" occurs from cold or warm boots.
I've tried both 10.5 and 10.6 OS -- no difference, results the same on both.
    Here's what I've tried:
Reinstalling and updating OS both 10.5 and 10.6
    Diskwarrior
    PRAM zap
Pulling all USB and firewire peripherals off the computer (except the Apple Wired Keyboard that shipped with the PC) -- Mac promptly booted to black screen, so peripherals are not the issue.
Changing displays (in this case, a Samsung 17") -- same result
I have tried booting to the Apple Hardware Test on my commercial Leopard DVD and Snow Leopard DVD, but the machine will not boot to this (the Leopard disk will boot the AHT on other Macs). I no longer have the original CDs that shipped with the Mac.
I've suspected the video card, but according to other posts, apparently this is not the cause.
I'm now suspecting a motherboard firmware issue.
Before this, the Mac Pro was having a related issue pertaining to VMWare Fusion, wherein the Mac would occasionally not wake from sleep, logging a VMWare Fusion kernel crash.
For the moment, I'm not shutting down the Mac Pro, just turning off the Cinema Display. I've left this computer running for up to two months without a reboot, so I'm confident that it will stay up and remain stable.

I'll watch to see if you get an answer. I have a late 2008 Mac Book Pro 15 with the same problem. It boots xp good every time. But I often need to use external monitor to gain control of the OSX boot. It gives tone, shows gray, shows apple and gear the short blue and then strait to black and front LED seems to indicate sleep. Very frustrating. Happens on both use best graphics and conserve battery display settings. Tried the reset pram, safe boot, save boot verbose. All no good.

Since it will not boot then a hardware test can't be run. You could try FireWire Target Disk Mode and if it works then access from another Mac to run tests on the new drive. You could also try installing the OS X software from the host computer. If this does not work then professional help should be considered.
