E72 deleting backup.arc which is write protected

Hi,
I have an E72 where i backed up phone memory onto memory card. It is saved as backup.arc and can be seen when in PC suite, but now I cannot delete this because it says it is 'write-protected'............................... The size is 175mb, which is alarming.
I am unable do any 'slider thingy' because it is a micro sd card with no adapter. Seriously, it is very very plain!
I do not want to reformat it because i do not want to lose any Ovi maps and frankly, E72 has a LOT of software problems, I do not want to risk it (i set up a ringtone which also caused the inability to ever change it.... unless I saved a song as something...transfered it elsewhere...save it again etc etc, point is I am aware how nasty it gets, so, no formatting advice unless you guarantee there'll be no errors!)
Thanks for reading this through.
Raima

I did not find any backup.arc when I opened it up as mass storage.
When I use it as Media transfer I do find it.  When I right click.--> properties, the 'write only' part is greyed out...so no amount of clicking will unclick it.
Can you tell me if I save the necessary files somewhere in my PC, (ie: save everything except this backup.arc in a new folder in my computer) and format the memory card (something I previously was reluctant to do) will that get rid of it? Or will it stay stuck///cause errors?
PS: how will I format the memory card anyway?
Thanks for your previous reply

I'm almost sure that the problem is software, but can't find solution.
Could Any one help me please?

Consider to upgrade the network shutdown to 2.2.1 version. Could the problem be resolved in new version ? Any precaution needs to be taken when installing the new version ?

  • Creative Zen 8GB - Can't delete certain files (Write Protected it sa

I have added a bunch of mp3s, images and videos to my player, but now when I try to delete some of these files I get a "you can't delete this file because it's write protected", if I check the properties of such files they are infact write protected but there's no way for me to uncheck the box and make them deletable.
Anyone with the same problem or with a handy solution?
P.S. I updated already to the latest firmware.

Yes; I got my Zen this week and had the same problem when I copied over some MP3 files from a CD-ROM, which are write protected when the CD-ROM is created. I thought that the Zen was defecti've but now feel this is either a programmers misunderstanding of Windows Read Only functionality in the Zen -or- when you protect a file from deletion within the Zen, this is what the firmware sets to flag the file as 'Protected (I have not researched this yet).
My Fix: For some of you this will not be the answer you are looking for but it works and will kept your Zen music file structure and library intact.
You may need to switch to MTP mode in the creative software before you are allowed to use this technique. Search the forum where to find this checkbox. Otherwise your XP may be able to nati'vely open Explorer windows to the Zen.
Setup: Open two Windows Explorer windows on your desktop. In one, create a new folder on a hard dri've that has enough space to handle all the music files on your Zen. In another Explorer window, navigate to the Zen music folder.
    1. Use Windows Explorer to copy ALL of your music files From the Zen to a new folder on your computer's hard dri've. If you don't have enough room on your hard dri've (and if not, why don't you? ) move files in stages.
    2. When the files are in your hard dri've's folder, right-click on the new folder and select Properties. Deselect (Uncheck) the Read Only attribute checkbox. If another dialog is displayed, select "Apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files" and click 'OK'. This will make all your files deletable on the Zen.
    3. Copy (drag) all the files back to your Zen, overwriting the original files.
That's it. In the future perform step two before copying any files to the Zen.

  • Backup failed as media is write-protected

    Hi,
I am having mds 9000 series ds-c9124-k9 switch. To this switch IBM server and tape Library is connected through fiber cables. When we try to take backup an error message is displayed which says "Media is Write-Protected". I can see the tape library but write is not happening on it. When I remove the switch from the middle and connect server and tape library directly the backup starts taking place.
Is it anything to do with the switch?
Is there anything in the switch that I need to enable for the backup to take place?

    Hi,
If the zone has the read-only attribute enabled, then disable it.

  • Time Machine on Timecapsule:  Backup error / Write Protected Sparsebundle

suddenly, really suddenly, there is a message "time machine can't access the backup-image, error-search can't be done by this computer, please backup your data (haha) and format your drive" and there is another message "image is write-protected". (it's not matching the exact message, though i'm on a german os)
but i can access time-capsule and write data on it through finder. i've got this problem since this morning. i'll backing up my sparsebundle-file to another folder on timecaspule and wait for a solution.
if the problem will not be solved by itself, i will delete the original bundle and replace it by the copy and see what happens next.
i'm quite a bit frustrated, starting new backups all 3 months (same happend with the update 10.5.2). this can't be the idea of time-machine and capsule....

I have been having the same issue for 3 weeks now. Unable to complete backup. A network problem may have interrupted the connection between your computer and the backup volume. error. I've upgraded and downgraded the firmware. I've connected wirelessly and Ethernet. No dice. I've unplugged the TC and restarted. Same error message. I can see the TC in Airport Utility. Everything looks right in the settings. I have Disconnected USers from the airport disk and tried backing up...Nada. I can access and retrieve backup files through Time Machine no problem. I want to associate this error with the latest System Update, but I'm just not sure. More people are talking about the firmware causing errors rather than the system update. I will probably have to call Apple Support I guess.

  • Delete file with write protection

    Hello,
Is there any way to delete a file on Windows that is write protected? I have a web program that uploads images into a directory in docroot. The program also displays the images on a web page and allows the user to delete the images.
I have noticed that even after the server displays the images, they are still write protected. I assume by the application server. It doesn't always do this, but sometimes. When it happens I have noticed that restarting the application server corrects it. So, my code to delete the files doesn't work. Does anyone know a resolution to this? I am open to ideas.
    File F = new File(fileLoc);
    if (f.delete() == false)
      System.out.println("Could not delete" + fileLoc);Thanks
    Mike

Someone solved my problem on the Glassfish site. If you are using Glassfish, it can cache or not cache files in the docroot. Caching will set the write protection flag and thus make them impossible to delete.
To not cache, change the file-caching-enabled and globally-enabled to false in the build.xml
    <http-file-cache file-caching-enabled="true" file-transmission-enabled="false" globally-enabled="true" hash-init-size="0" max-age-in-seconds="30" max-files-count="1024" medium-file-size-limit-in-bytes="537600" medium-file-space-in-bytes="10485760" small-file-size-limit-in-bytes="2048" small-file-space-in-bytes="1048576"/>
    change to
    set file-caching-enabled="false" and globally-enabled="false"

  • Require backup script which deletes the daily backups after weekly backup

    Hi,
I am new to Oracle administration. I require a backup script which will delete the daily backups (incremental) after weekly backup is taken (full database backup).
Currently I use Oracle 10g for one of my production server.
My backup strategy is given below.
I would like to take full database backup weekly(online). To be precise, on Saturday.
I need to have daily incremental backup and they should get deleted on Saturday after the weekly full database backup is taken.
Also I would like to keep 4 weeks full backups. After that one by one we need to delete the backup.
For example, if I have 4 weeks fullbackup of February, after taking full backup for first week of March, the backup of first week of February should get deleted.
    Kindly help with your suggestions.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Rafnas

    Hi,
Thank you for pointing to the blog. It was very much useful.
I was testing the backup strategy using your script. It worked fine for first set of daily backups.
After weekly backup is taken, the daily backup script fails for taking the backup from next day onwards.
It gives the following error stack.
    Starting backup at 05-MAR-09
    using channel ORA_DISK_1
    RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
    RMAN-00569: =============== ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS ===============
    RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
RMAN-03002: failure of backup command at 03/05/2009 01:47:55
ORA-01455: converting column overflows integer datatype
Could you please let me know why integer datatype comes into picture while taking backup?
    Please advice.
    Thanks & Regards,

  • Touch and sync related issues due to write protected photo's

i had a problem where the photo's in the directory that the touch was pulling from were write protected. once sync'd the ipod gets an error every time thereafter seemingly becuase the files synced were write protected. if you turn of the sync photo's option, the photo's remain so that does not help. so i had to do a restore of my ipod touch. a few comments about this process. turning of automatically sync when connected does nothing (and either does {ctrl}{Shift} when connecting). for some reason, if a "verify" starts on the ipod, even if you delete the sync history, it must verify. this makes no sense since you will have to wait hours (as i did) for the verify to complete just to restore the ipod. the next morning when i actually told the system that it was a new ipod instead of restoring from backup (which i assume would only put the write protected photo's back on the ipod) i did all the settings again, etc. painful! this bug needs to be fixed. write protected files should not screw up your ipod or syncing. one final question, are there and licensing ramifications on a restore with a new setup (instead of from backup)? the older ipod name still shows in devices. is it safe to delete the backup at this point?
    thanks
    harvey

I do not recall anyone else specifically mentions this but other users have reported problems with wifi sync and maybe that was the reason.

  • Write Protection in Acrobat X

    Hi all,
I wonder if any of you had the following problem before and knows how to fix it:
when I open a PDF file with Acrobat X the document is write protected, so I have to use "Save as" every time and save it with a new name.
I'm using Windows 7 64bit. The access-rights for this files are correct, and I'm able to delete or rename them under Windows as well.
When I'm opening them from a different PC it works fine as well.
These are not PDF/A documents, I've already checked that and tried to turn off the option "Open PDF/A write-protected", but with no effect.
Any suggestions would be really helpful. :-)
    Thanx!
    Anne

    Hi,
A digital signature is a PKI based cryptographic operation, not a stamp, and as long as the file isn't locked it can be digitally signed. For that matter you can add a stamp, which is just a type of comment, to the file as well, again providing the file isn't locked due to some other operation (e.g. encrypting the file).
Vector art looks great in a PDF file and it scales just like you would expect.

  • Can't copy write-protected folder to new location

After doing a clean-install of Snow Leopard, and restoring home directory from Time Machine, I am unable to use the Finder to copy certain write-protected folders to a new location. Folder and all contents are owned by me, and using the Terminal to *cp -r* the folder and its contents works just fine. Trying to Command-C and Command-V the folder to the Desktop, say, or to click-drag or option-click-drag the folder itself cause a grayed-out version of the folder to appear briefly on the Desktop, and then disappear with no dialog box, indicated error, or entry in the log files.
Interestingly, creating a new folder, changing it to read-only, and moving it with the Finder IS successful. This behavior only seems to be affecting files that were restored using Time Machine.
A screencapture of this behavior is at http://www.crashwhite.com/tmp/finder_bug.mov
    Any ideas? I'm mystified!
    Thanks...

Hi, V.K, and thanks for checking in. To respond to your questions:
    • chmodding to 755 or anything else that gives me write permission allows the move or copy to occur as expected.
    • chmodding to 444 is a means of archiving the state of a folder and its contents. I do this to avoid corrupting a year's worth of documents. In the past (w/ Tiger, Leopard, etc.), I've been able to copy an "archived" directory into the new writeable directory with no difficulty.
    • In Terminal:
    +$ ls -ladeO Documents/arc/edu/poly/poly\ 08-09/wasc/+
    *dr-xr-xr-x 3 rwhite rwhite - 102 Oct 11 11:16 Documents/arc/edu/poly/poly 08-09/wasc/*
    +$ ls -ladeO Desktop+
    *drwx------+ 15 rwhite rwhite - 510 Oct 11 13:19 Desktop*
    *0: group:everyone deny delete*
I am unfamiliar with ACL--hadn't actually ever heard of it until now--so I'm going to start digging about a bit. It would appear that the + at the end of the Desktop listing indicates that there is an ACL that is having some effect here.
Re: my installation, I began with a standard migration, but that process left some cruft in my system that was slowing the system (lots of log errors from old stuff that was no longer installed), so I did a clean install: wiped drive completely, installed new from Snow Leopard, and did a Restore of user directory from Time Machine. I believe that used Migration Assistant to migrate from TM, but it may have been that I simply did a Restore from TM.
Off to go research ACL a little more. Thanks for the tip, and any additional advice you might have!
    Cheers,

i run into problems working with DIAdem 9.1 on Windows 2000 SP4!
The Diadem installation went quite well.
    My problem:
only "Administrator" and "Power User" have the privilige to "WRITE" to the DIAdem install directory.
Trying to start Diadem as non priviliged USER I get something like:
    DIAdem Configuration-Drive "C:\PROGRAM FILES\ NATIONAL INSTRUMENT\DIADEM 9.10" WRITE PROTECTED!
I installed & started DIAdem for one
time with Administrator rights. I activated the Product and exported
the KEY to a License Server. Everything works fine for Power Users an
Administrators. Only "simple" USERs are not able to start Diadem due to
missing WRITE permissions.  i can't grand this permissions to
    normal USERs :-(
Playing around in Registry -> "RegWriteAccessAllow" ("0","1") (DWORD) (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/National Instruments/Diadem/9.10),
    didn't solved the problem.
I switched back to "local License" Managment (local Key files) but the Probelm persists.
    thanks in advance
    P.S.

Message Edited by DirkT on 08-01-2005 04:02 PM

    Hi DirkT,
Running DIAdem with User rights has different aspects we need to look at.
    1) Registry Write Access
Launching DIAdem the first time with administrative rights registers some OLE components in the registry. After this step no more Admin rights are necessary for the registry. However running DIAdem as user might result in error messages as DIAdem tries to re-register the components again. You can avoid this by setting the RegWriteAccessAllow Key to 0 (see online help under "Administrator Notes")
    2) File / Folder Write Access to the DIAdem Installation Folder
DIAdem needs write access to certain files e.g. the error logfile DEM_ERRS.001 or DESKTOP.DDD when saving configurations. You may change the folder where these file are being stored and searched for to a writeable folder by launching DIAdem with the "/d<NewFolder\MyDesktop.ddd>" start parameter or by setting the environment variable "DemDDD" to that folder. Then move the following files from the DIAdem installation folder to your new writeable folder:
    *.ddd
    userpar.par
    dem_errs.*
    3) File / Folder Write Access to other Folders
There are a number of other folders that DIAdem 9.x needs write access to and which cannot be changed. All of these folders are located by default under "%ProgramFiles%\National Instruments\Shared". Currently you need your Admin to give you write access to that folder and below
For future versions of DIAdem the team is working to make running under user rights easier.
    Hope that helps,
    Marcus

I have an iMac purchased in May 2011.  OSX Lion 10.7.3.  I deleted backup file from the external hard drive which operates from Time Machine.
Now, the trash can will not empty some of the files deleted from the backup harddrive.
The trash contains-- File folder: "Core Services" which contains a locked file: "boot.efi".
    It will not delete.
How do I get the trash can empty of these files?

Yes, the Old Master file has a folder for each year where I find all photos from that specific year. I am attaching a screen shot of the file.
In the meantime i have managed to download all photos (it did not download any video files though in mpg, avi, 3gp, m4v,mp4 and mov format) to a new iphoto library. Unfortunately the photos are quite mixed and often doubled up. I ma considering to purchase iphoto library which checks all duplicates in iphoto. this will save me a lot of time. What do you think?
