E72 - Dust/dirt under the screen ?

Hello!
I have the E72-1 and I'm very happy with the phone. Using 022.007 today and I would recommend this phone to a friend.
I have had a few known problems:
pictures missing form the gallery
the D-pad fails intermittently
No indication when the charge is done
battery cover is a joke. Bad fit and to thin
but overall the phone has worked very well.
But now I have another problem that is more annoying.
It looks like there is dirt/dust *under* the screen - I have checked the screen and there
are no marks on the screen surface. I have used the case that comes with the phone
from day one but that has not helped.
How many here has seen this ?  or am I the only one...
I can see the dust/dirt clearly when the screen saver is running, it is very annoying.
Cheers,
 N. Muntz

Hello,
As I previously had a 5310 "XpressMusic", very prone to dust under the screen, I am constantly watching this point on my 3 months old E72-1 (made in Finland, bought in Paris - France).
I always wear the E72 in jeans/shirt pockets without extra protection, so it is the worst possible situation.
I affirm that after 3 months of heavy usage there is ANY dust under the screen, nor under the camera window.
Under the exact same condition, the camera on the 5310 was almost unusable after 1 month, and its screen was innerly covered by dust after 2 months (but still visible and usable after 2 years, so don't worry).
But if you see too much dust under the screen, your unit could be defective as others (mine) don't have this default.

  • How did dust get under the screen?

I bought a PB used about a month ago and it was in like new shape with the exception of one dead pixel that annoyed me. This is getting picky but now I noticed there is a piece of dust about an inch away from the dead pixel which really annoys me when I see those. I don't understand how a piece of dust got under the screen, I've had my ipod touch for over 2 years, in my lint filled pockets and it doesn't have any dust under the screen, just in the creases of where the glass ends. I've only had the PB a few weeks and when transporting it I have it in the cloth sleeve, and I clean it often, how could it have gotten in there, through the speaker grill? And could I use like an air compressor to blow it out or would that possible cause damage to it. I was going to buy the convertible case and a screen protector soon but still I don't see how that happens. Sorry for the dumb post but it is really annoying and I want to know if anyone else has had that happen or if it dust can be blown out.

Thats too bad. I dont get how its getting under there, Im thinking probably through the speaker grills but I'm not sure, the dead pixel was annoying enough but if any more dust gets under there its going to be really annoying to see all that on the screen. I dont know if the one already in there might move to the edge so its not as noticeable or if it might work its way out over time, if more get under there though Id say the best solution would be to take the glass off, if its even possible on the PB, I dont know that much about them, I heard the battery isnt removable but I think that means user removable meaning a PB dealer could open and replace it. If it can be opened without a professional without scratching anything then maybe just taking the glass off will work but I'd only do that as a last resort. I'm starting to get more and more disappointing with the PB the dust, the battery life isnt what I hoped for it to be, and there are very few good apps. Maybe when the ipad 3 comes out I can get a cheap ipad one to fill in for where the PB lacks

  • Is the 2G Touch prone to getting dust/lint under the screen?

I have a Contour Showcase, but it tends to get dust/lint beneath the plastic surrounding the edge of the screen; and the dock and headphone jacks are exposed. I keep the Touch in my pocket, so it collects lint. I get paranoid because I had a cellphone once that got so much lint under the screen I couldn't see anything. I tried using a Power Support screen protector, but it attracted even more lint and only covered the screen itself. Is the Touch likely to accumulate dust/lint under the screen?

It can. Mine has a lot of dust inside the unit that has settled on top of the LCD that got in through a gap between the screen and metal on the right hand side of the iPod (also called a light leak, as when it's used in the dark you can see light emitting through said gap).
Apple has refused to acknowledge the problem.

  • Speck of dirt under the screen - extremely annoying!!!  What now?

On the top of my screen about 1/16" under the black border there's a tiny speck of dirt stuck under the screen. I suspect it got in there through the ear-speaker of the headphone jack.
How could it be removed? Is this something the Apple tech could take care of for me? I think the screen would need to be removed. It's annoying the heck out of me!

People are taking them apart and documenting it all over the web.
    Here's one link: http://stream.ifixit.com/
I probably wouldn't do it, but some people are more hands-on than others.
I'd take it back as I've heard of the Apple store replacing dropped phones free of charge (usually they would not do this). Now is the time to take advantage of Apple's elevated "we want you to be satisfied" sentiment before it fades.
You may get a brand new one just for asking.
The question then becomes "How do you keep dirt specks out?"

  • How can dust get under the screen like this ?

I have a large piece of dust under my screen about an inch up and an inch from either side of the screen.
I use a cover on the rear of my phone, and have a zagg cover for the screen. How on earth can a speck get this far in ? I thought these were pretty much closed units.
Is this something Apple would exchange for ?

A forum search will reveal that several people have reported this and have gotten a replacement.
You can make an appointment at the Genius Bar and they will let you know if they can give a replacement.

  • Dust/Lint under the screen!

Hi, i have a iPod touch 2G, and i use it normally, im not rough with it. For some reason though, i notice that i have a few tiny specs of lint/dust under the bottom of the screen. Is this problem covered by my warranty? I have had it for 3 months. I notice it when im using my ipod in the light without the backlight on.
    Could you provide some insight?
    Thanks

This is a problem noted in some 2G Touches.
If it's an issue with you, I'd suggest contacting Apple or an Apple Store, especially if you're still under the warranty (and it sounds like you are). This has been noted before from time to time, so it shouldn't be hard to impress the importance of the repair/replacement.
You may not be aware that extremes in temperature or condensation can sometimes cause problems with the interior workings of the Touch.

  • Dead Pixel or dirt under the screen.

So i got a new macbook last week, and so far i love it.
I noticed a small green dot on my screen, and told apple about it (after an exhausting chain of calls and trips to the apple store). They said they could either repair it or replace it. Both would take about the same amount of time, but if I were to replace it, I would lose all my data.
My question is, is there anyway to backup my computer thoroughly, including saved passwords, itunes, downloaded applications and plug-ins, etc? Basically, I need to choose between repair and replacing it. Any cons of a simple repair? The apple support guy didn't give any.
A few off topic questions: Because I have a post-April macbook, does it mean my screen isn't one of the crappy ones? Or is that just a rumor? I'm going to check when i go back to the apple store on sat, but I'm just curious. Also, I think my battery is subpar to what apple is promising. obviously 3 and a half hours of wireless productivity means no applications open, sending emails, and that's it, but I clock in at 2 doing minimal intensive work. I pretty much lose 1 percent every minute just having wi-fi on. The apple "genius" did a "diagnostics" test (with an old ipod nano??) and said it was fine.
Thanks for any advice you can give to a newly reformed PC user. ;P

If you have an external drive that is large enough to hold the entire contents of your MacBook then you can use a product like Carbon Copy Cloner (CCC) to make a complete duplicate of your internal hard drive. In fact, if you just plan on making a single clone of your system then you can download and use CCC for no charge (it's a shareware program but it allows limited use for no charge). You'd want to make a disk image (.dmg) using CCC which you can then store as a single file.
After you make the clone and when your MacBook is returned you can then clone the disk image (.dmg) back to your new MacBook.
Another product you might want to consider (other than CCC) is SuperDuper! (similar in functionality to CCC).

  • Will I get a replacement for dust under the screen?...

    Hey everyone!
I've had an iPhone since the 3G came out and I've never had any problems with dust. My 3G got replaced by 02 insurance about 5 months ago and I got a new 3GS 16GB. Since then I noticed the odd little bit of dust appearing under the screen. Most of the time I couldn't see it so I didn't really care but now I've noticed a few larger pieces and they're really annoying.
I understand that I should get a 12 month warranty with this and surely it's not meant to happen so I'd expect a replacement. I've searched around and I seem to get mixed answers. The problem is that I'm currently working in Cologne and there are only 3 Apple Stores in Germany (I can't believe it!) and the nearest one is still over 100 miles away.
What do you recommend? Would Apple do anything like post one (I doubt it?) or am I going to just have to wait until I'm near Frankfurt (or even back in London) and book an appointment there. Even then... what are my chances of getting a replacement?
Thanks in advance everyone! Much appreciated

I doubt they will give you a replacement. I know here in the States you can take your iphone to an Apple store and they can replace the screen and charge you $200 for that. But I find it hard to believe they would replace the screen for free just because there are dust particles under the glass. That's just my opinion.

Mon telephone n'est pas tombé et je trouve ca anormal que de la pousiere se soit mise en desous de l'ecran sans que le telephne n'ai subit de choc.
Je cherche une solution de reparation.

    hello,
I bought 3 weeks ago a BlackBerry Curve 9320 but there is dust that has gottenunder in the screen, there is more and more with time and it bothers me. My phone did not fall and I find thatit is abnormal that dust gets under the screen if the telephne have not suffered from shock.
I am looking for a repair solution.
    Thank you for your help
    cordially

Same problem on my 9320 Blackberry Device (left side, USB plug). It's very annoying, moreover there were no bump that could cause the problem, and there are more and more dust under the screen. Is there anything I can do ? Or can I send it to repairment ?
    Thank you for answering

  • Dust Under The Screen Unsol

Ive done some reading no one as found a solotion to removing dust from under the screen i am starting this up again becuase many ppl havent found there answer please help me and other anyone got answers?

Either blow it out, suck it out, or void your warranty and disassemble your player to physically wipe it away. A can of compressed would probably just inject moisture under your screen, while sucking it out I would guess is next to impossible, but maybe worth a try. If you have a narrow nozzle attachment for your vacuum, carefully place it on one side of the screen along the blue glowing edge. Other than that, your options are rather limited.

  • Dirt Under 3GS Screen, Will Apple replace?

    Hey all,
I got my 3GS at launch and there is now alot of dirt under the screen, makes it a bit hard to see in daylight and gets really annoying. The rest of the iPhone is in PERFECT condition. Will Apple replace it? I live far from an Apple store so it is a pain to go and I don't want to waste my time. I had a 3G that I used for a year before the 3GS and never had a dust problem.
    Thanks in advance,
    Alex

So, for example, environmental things like being a construction worker and getting that road dust in the phone, yes technically it's not you putting the dust in but you have placed the phone in conditions that most likely will result in dust under the screen...
That or if you always put it in your pocket that is dirty or dusty or has lots of lint... if you end up getting lint under the screen that would still be considered user created.
Clearly not all blemishes can be avoided but the ones that are certainly due to the conditions you place the phone in are not typically covered.
Of course you could get a really nice Genius Bar tech

  • Dust & Lint under touch screen but visable

Anybody getting dust & lint under the screen where you can see it in the backlight but you can't get to it to clean it off?

I am. I just started noticing it this week.
I've had my iPhone 3G since it came out and have always had a screen protector and plastic case on it. When I slide it into my jeans pocket, it goes in head first so the dock connector is always facing up toward the top of my pocket. I usually clean out the dock connector area with a puff of air. I took off the screen protector today to try and clean the dust but to no avail. I have not noticed any issues/problems with the sensitivity of the touch screen
My iPhone case has no dock connector cover. Should I take it to an Apple store to have them look at it. Any one else take their iPhone in?

  • Dust under the screen....

Does anyone know if you can have apple remove the dust under the screen if you are under warranty? Like will they service the iphone for that? And if they do, do you know if they will completely replace the iphone, or will they just remove the screen and fix it?
    Thanks

Roaminggnome is right, it's a case by case basis, but as long as you have not abused the phone, it's more than likely you can get a replacement, but don't quote me on that. They will replace the phone if they decide to--they don't do cosmetic work. So, what I'm saying simply is--maybe, maybe not--make an appointment with a Genius at an Apple Store to see. If they will, they'll give you another iPhone.

  • Dust Under the Screen and Case Cracks

    Hey guys,
I am the proud owner of an iPhone 3G S, and love the thing to pieces. I've had it for 8 months now, however over the past few weeks, I have become slightly disappointed with it.
Firstly, a small crack appeared above the 'Silent On/Off' switch, which I don't understand how it appeared as the phone has never been dropped or bumped. It's only very tiny, but I'm a perfectionist and not particularly happy about the fact it has appeared by itself. I treat my phone like royalty.
Then today, I realised a tiny white fleck on the screen when running an app. At first, I thought it might have been a dead pixel, but it turns out that it's a fleck of dust under the screen. How did it get there?! And it's not the only fleck either. When I turned the screen off, there appears to be at least 3 or 4 tiny flecks. They aren't obtrusive to the screen, but annoy me as, like I said before, I'm a perfectionist.
Am I still within warranty at 8 months? And if I am, would Apple replace my iPhone if I was to return it? It was purchased from O2, so would I return it to them, or Apple directly?
Your help would be greatly appreciated.

I finally took my device to the Apple Store today. Due to having dust beneath the screen, as well as the crack, it meant they replaced the whole unit, rather than just the screen, which they would have done in the event of just dust.
If anyone else has any issues, I'd highly recommend taking it to a Genius Bar. The staff were so helpful, and no questions were asked really.
    Well done Apple
