E72/ E series apps discussion

Hi all. Discussions on this board sometimes get a bit depressing as most of us only post when we have problems with our phones. Something which can sadly be quite frequent.
However, speaking personally, I am on the whole quite happy with the phone. It is purely the software stability issues that have bothered me.
So trying to turn things to a more positive and interesting outlook, I wanted to start a discussion on the various apps that people are using on their E72s or E series phones. There are so many on the ovi store, but most are junk. But what gems have people uncovered?
I will list my favourite apps, and the apps or type of apps I miss the most when looking at symbian 3 or android in comparison.
Favourite/ most used apps:
1. Sports tracker (free). I love keeping a record of my walking and this is perfect for that.
2. Skype (free). Shame it doesn't support video, but otherwise what to add.
3. Nimbuzz (free). For voip using sipgate via wifi when abroad and for a free landline number for incoming calls here and abroad. (I found the nokia sip system not to work with too many routers so use this instead).
4. Joikuspot (free). Great for an emergency to broadcast phone's 3g signal over wifi to laptop.
5. Energy saver (£4). This is the only app I have paid for via ovi store. Despite the name it is basically a sleep timer. I use it to set the phone to go off on a timer after I fall asleep listening to internet radio or music.
6. Slingplayer (bought direct from slingplayer for about £15!). Great to watch and control home sky box whilst out and about or abroad.
Apps that I miss/ wish were available for e72:
1. BBC iplayer. It worked for a while, but sadly no longer compatible with the E72 which is a great shame.
2. Facebook. Really miss a proper facebook app. My wifes C6-01 has a great facebook app. They should really make this available on s60 phones.
3. battery monitor. The battery monitor from touchscreen nokias isn't available on the e72, which is a real shame as it is very good.
4. skype video or equivalent. Sadly you can't have both fring and skype on the phone. plus fring doesn't have a pc program.
5. A decent self updating news feed app. Like the BBC one on symian ^3.
6. A good app for streaming, or uploading and sharing videos taken on the phone. I tried qik, but found the video extremely pixelated and basically unwatchable even when taken in offline mode and uploaded afterwards.
In truth that's about it that I can think of. Otherwise most apps I see people using on their iphones and androids just seem pointless.
Anyone using any gems that I have missed?
Anyone think of anything else that they really wish was available for s60 phones?

Every E6 user got problems...:/
just read the threads here...
- you wont have NO EMAIL NOTIFICATIONS any more, no POPUP nothing:/,
- the battery works max 2 days..in E72  3 -max 4days
- no NOTIFICATION LIGHT like in the E72(the light is there but the DPad is not working with that
- to press '!' you have to press now 2 keys
- the DPad is no touchpad any more:/
- you cant have calendar info, Email inbox, clock and other ICONS on one screen any more...!
- no Autofocus

  • E72: Web-based apps try using connection other tha...

I bought my wife an E72 yeasterday. After we charged the battery up and turned it on, everything seemed to work alright. I set up the WLAN connection on my wireless at home, and I tested the use of Facebook, MySpace, etc. Her SIM card needs to be topped up, so the phone keeps saying "SIM Registration Failed." We're going to top it up this morning, so no worries about that. This morning she tried using the Facebook app, but instead of conecting via WLAN, it says "Connecting via IDEAS" which is the Singtel SIM card here in Singapore. I've manually connected to my Wifi network here, and even went to the connection manager to set the priority to 1. The app still doesn't connect via WLAN, and instead tries to use the SIM. When she does top up her card, this could be a quick money waster, especially when we have an abundance of Wifi connectivity....so how do I get the web-based apps to use WLAN over anything else?
    Thanks in advance!

Hadimassa, thank you for pointing me in the right direction! I was able to do this for the Facebook app, and now it works without any problems. Can something similar be done for the Ovi store, or other services, like downloading languages for the dictionary app? Both of these options attempt to use the Singtel IDEAS method to connect, but because it's a prepaid phone, it's not possible. Any way to make them use the Wifi, or can this not be done over this type of connection?
    Thanks in advance!
I'll bet you can. Check the English manual on page 137 about Accesspoint Groups and Priorities.

  • E72: every single app is running

This morning a new issue has arises on my E72.
In the menu, every single app and subfolder is marked with the green running circle.
Of course none is running. Checking running apps only shows menu and standby.
Not a big issue and reboot fixes it, but still...

Got my E-72 about 3 month ago. What you'r discribing happened once to me about 1.5 month ago. After that it dit not happen anymore. Until now. Don't know  how it happened,

  • Memory Error Fix for E71/E72/E Series.

Regarding Memory management... (Before the hard reset yesterday) I could generally run 2 - 3 applications before i got the out of memory, after running Nokia Energy profiler application, it shows around 100meg (if that's used memory, that means i have what, 29 meg free?) anyway..
    After hard reset.
I just ran, Google Maps, Garmin XT, Ovi Maps 3.3, Gmail, Nokia web browser, Energy Profiler (to monitor memory usage) and the inbuilt Email client (inside the sms menu)...
Energy Profile went from 101 meg to 127 meg, and was running every app fine. i'm curious now that if others game the same results as me, i went from running a couple of small apps to 6 or 7 large apps without issues.
First of all, run the backup (backup everything except the memory card, this includes phone memory make sure you back that or you'll be there forever putting all your data back) then back up...
    from the phone,
    *#7370#
    Code 12345
Then simply plug the phone back to USB, install the applications that need to be installed from pc suite, then restore from the backup, all your settings, bookmarks, configuration everything should be put back to how it was prior...
but, you'll notice a huge more amount of memory on drive c, and you'll have a lot more memory to play with for running more applications.
If this actually works for other people rather than just me, something is seriously wrong memory management side of things and nokia need to look into it.

    this is a nice exercise
i have the following apps open and still have 11Mb of free memory left:
realplayer streaming a video clip over wlan
    gallery
    file manager
    calculator
    adobe reader
    opera mobile
    quickoffice
    web browser
    internet radio
    google maps
    ovi maps
    sms editor
    worldmate
    calls log
    everything works normal
    it's kinda cool
    cheers

  • EvenSteven: Official App discussion topic

EvenSteven is an app by ThinkQwick that was released in May 2014.
EvenSteven is a very simple app with one purpose: to help you keep track of money lent and borrowed between you and your best friend.
It is totally free and available now in BlackBerry World in specific regions (English speaking countries at this point: EvenSteven is now being internationalized to support other languages).
A paid version of the app will be available in the future. The benefit of the paid version over the free version is support for more than one "friend": the free version of EvenSteven will always be available to try or for people that only want to keep track of funds with one friend at a time, but the paid version will be as inexpensive as BlackBerry World will allow (probably 99¢) but hopefully a lower price option will be allowed soon.
Please post questions or comments here or email the address "evensteven" at the thinkqwick.com domain if you like.

  • Xperia series , apps to SD

A sales (from offical sony showroom) told me that they recommed a apps which can be move files to the sd card therefore I bought a Xperia M (new model) and followed what he suggested. However, I found that it doesn't work finally and just noticed that most xperia users has the same problems about this issue(only music, photos, video can be moved). It's really disappointed.
And now, I'm appericated that if sony can be updated or developed any software/OS that can be selectively moved the apps to SD. It a big benifit to Sony and customers.

    that should explain it
There is a way around it, you will have to root your phone > install an app: apps2sd then you will be able to do so.

I'm looking for what I would consider a simple iPhone/iPod touch application although not yet available _that I know of???_
    *A Hearing Ad*
Tap your iPhone or iPod/touch (with line mics on ear plug line) and presto it switched from playing music to becoming an Hearing Ad for the hard of hearing of for those occupied preventing removing the earphones.
Seems simple enough - is there such a thing or is it in the works.

Hello Ken, Thank you for bringing this to my attention, I can certainly understand why you would want to get your Nike+ FuelBand connecting to the new iOS 8 Health app. Currently we're working with Apple because due to an unspecified issue with Health Kit and the Health App, data sharing between those apps and other apps (including NikeFuel) is not currently enabled. I do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause but I would keep your eye on updates for iOS 8, and the Nike+ FuelBand and FuelBand app.  Should you have any further questions or concerns, please let me know; I am here to help. Sincerely, Dante

  • HT4463 I purchased Mountain Lion and it's not in my purchased apps.?

Purchased Mountain Lion but it's not in my purchased Apps.

I've been searching this forum for an hour and can't find the answer to my problem.  I purchased the upgrade to Mountain Lion a few months ago.  I'm trying to download it to another MBP I own and it does not show up in the "purchased" list.   I have tried to find the "hidden" apps discussed above, but my account does not show a "hidden apps" option.  So, I can't unhide it.  It was there a few weeks ago, but today it only shows two apps I have recently downloaded.
The local Apple retail store restored my copy of Mountain Lion after a system crash.  Did that remove my purchased copy of Mountain from the Apps Store Purchased list?
How do I get a download to another MBP without paying another $20 for a new update??
Surely someone else has had this problem.
    Thanks

  • Animated SMS's for N-Series.

Hi All Guru's of Nokia Forum,
I have found another issue with my N73 phone, it does not allow me to add/read animated images in SMS's, and also smilies looks like text messages instead of actual smilies when we send or read SMS. I found animated SMS software in net but it is not free it costs around 3 Euro.
I guess this is also a Basic feature which comes in any other mobiles, I am not sure why Nokia don't add this features! Is it indirectly supporting private software market so that Nokia mobile users can go n buy those software’s to make them Rich?
Any body Pl let me know how can I read/send smilies which looks similar to yahoo smilies through SMS's in N73.
(Note: My previous topic "Animated wallpaper for N-Series mobiles" discussed about another issue with N-Series, you are welcome to reply for that thread too.)
    Thanks,
    Dileep.

The hitch here in having that software for smileys, is that the other phone receiving it should have the software too, else they will see what you saw in your phone without that software.
    Incorrect.
Other phones see the smilies as normal (either as text smilies or that phones own picture smilies). The message are still sent as a standard text message, not picture messages so there is no additional messaging costs.
The program will convert incoming messages smilies so you will receive messages with smilies.
The only people that won't see the smilies are people with older incompatible phones or those with smartphones without the software. These people will see standard text smilies.

  • E72 apparently smart FW update

Everything went like clockwork putting 081.003 on my first E72, all my apps were there and the phone seemed just fine, company search worked again and it seemed a bit faster.
So today I did the same thing with my second E72 and all seemed well, then... latency was apparent on all functions, but this disappears. Then I discover that the e-mail client doesn't receive and when sending "Send" remains on-screen and the phone is unresponsive for several second.
I'm sure a *#7370# will work just fine - it just seems a bit pointless having an update/reinstall backup function when your've got to do a hard reset anyway and faff about reinstalling your apps ?
I'm going to wait a while to see if the phone sorts itself out ...

nope there is no difference. they both provide exactly the same firmware update for your phone.

  • E72 FW 81.003

    Updated Today 22 nov .
Updated because I want remove the previous problem i was facing "Memory Full , Close some Application" in FW 71.004 . Before 71.004 version my phone work nice. But after 71.004 update its always shows memory full error. And Same error i got when connect to WIFI .. Error was " System Error " and after that I have to remove batterry and Restart the phone. now , as I updated 81.003 today , Lets hope it will give me Optimum Solutions.

This update seems to be a long time coming to some markets. I get no message on the E72's update app. and Nokia Suite just keeps on looking and getting nowhere.
Mt E72 seriously needs resetting, but I really can't be bothered to go through with a hard reset and re-installing all my apps, just to do so again within days...
Is there anywhere one can can check availability of FW 81.003 according to the code 0592xxx, just to make sure someone hasn't forgotten to distribute?

  • 3rd party plugin app

    Hi,
Can anyone help me with this?
From memory, I seem to recall an app (discussed on this forum) that allows you to run audio plugs/instruments outside of logic (with Logic still able to access them), which, I believe, can make Logic more stable. Ring any bells?
I also wondered if this same app allows 32 bit plugs and iLoks (original iLok) to run in 64bit mode?
Thanks for any info, Bryan New

You may be talking about Logic Node software to run some plugins on another computer.

  • The DOs and DON'Ts of ICS

Written by:  Sumit Jain  After working extensively on Informatica Cloud, I have collected some to dos and guidelines of the Informatica Cloud product. You may know them before hand, but I thought to compile a list and share it with a wider audience:  1. Create a Naming Conventions document detailing the standard naming conventions for different types of Connections, Tasks, Taskflows and schedules within Informatica Cloud. All the developers should rigorously follow these naming conventions. It has been observed that when multiple people are working simultaneously, they tend to follow their own naming standards and at the end, there are lot of tasks and it is very difficult to identify tasks and administrator has to spend a good amount of time identifying the correct tasks.   2. Add meaningful description to all your tasks, connections, taskflows and schedules in such a way that they convey the purpose of their use and thus do not create confusion to other users.   3. The machine the Informatica Cloud Secure Agent runs on must always be on. It must not be in a sleep mode or in “idle”. This might be indicated when the Agent status fluctuates between an active/inactive state. Make sure this computer is on or re-install the agent on a computer that stays on continuously.   4. If you are using the CSV files as source or target, make sure that you match up the date format in the associated connection for flat files, by dropping down the Date Format list and choosing the matching format. And If there isn’t a matching format in the drop down list, then you will need to explicitly format the date in Step 5 of Data Synchronization task by using a transformation function called TO_DATE.   5. If there is a requirement of performing a lookup on Salesforce objects, then do not create a direct lookup. A direct lookup on Salesforce object will call the Salesforce object for each record processed and thus performance will decrease considerably. Instead, write the data of Salesforce object in a flat file and then use the flat file for doing the lookup.    6. For incremental processing, use the “$LastRunTime” and “$LastRunDate” variables in conjunction with a source field of “date” type. Informatica Cloud supports and maintains these variables automatically. For example, if your source has a field called LASTMODIFIEDDATE, you could set up your filter such that LASTMODIFIEDDATE > $LastRunTime. If your schedule then runs the task on a daily basis, that means each day you will only have to deal with the new/changed records from the previous day, instead of worrying about ALL records.   7. If the Informatica Cloud Secure Agent is running on a linux or unix server, it will not support MS SQL Server as source or target.   8. In a multi-user environment where the number of tasks to be created is very high, create Views based on logical groups for viewing similar group task in a single task view. Similarly you can create views for connection and taskflows.   9. SYSDATE is the current datetime you can use to denote the current date and time.   10. Use logical operators like IIF and DECODE to encode conditional logic in the expression in Step 5 of Data Synchronization task.  This has been posted on the community page as well. https://community.informatica.com/docs/DOC-3772 What are some of your best practices? Please share with us on the comment section below. Thanks!

Overview In part 1 of this series, I discussed why I thought that the new app platform from Salesforce.com ("Salesforce 1") was far from perfect and described this as "the App Gap". Sure, Salesforce 1 is a vastly improved mobile experience for every Salesforce user, but it still provides no help in two crucial areas.  Namely:There is no ability for business users to quickly deploy mobile apps by themselves. There is no automation to help users efficiently complete more than one salesforce activity at a time.   I also explained in part 1 that these shortcomings can be easily addressed by adding Informatica Cloud Extend to any Salesforce 1 implementation.  So for the  remainder of this article I'll explain how to configure your Salesforce org to leverage Informatica Cloud Extend.  Then you'll be closing the Salesforce 1 'App Gap' in no time.  Step 1. Modify VisualForce Launch Pages  It turns out that Informatica Cloud Extend guides can run easily from Salesforce 1. This is because Salesforce 1 now lets the user navigate to an object within the mobile app, and then the user can run a Cloud Extend guide from that object. But in order to get a Cloud Extend guide to run in Salesforce 1, the VisualForce page for launching CE guides must be modified first. VisualForce pages have an option for “Available for Salesforce mobile apps”:  So check that option. Step 2. Replace 'Managed' Cloud Extend VisualForce Pages  The VisualForce pages for standard Salesforce objects are part of the Cloud Extend managed package, so users cannot edit them (we manage these pages in order to improve your Cloud Extend experience.  In addition we also update them as needed with new Cloud Extend releases).  However that doesn't mean that can't replace the relevant VisualForce pages. So that's what we're going to do.  The doc on how to do so is here:   http://help.cloudextend.com/salesforce/documentation/#UserGuide/AdministeringCloudExtend/CustomizingStandardPages.htm So for  our example, let's replace the Opportunities VisualForce page.   Below is an screenshot of an example replacement VisualForce page: The VisualForce markup for the page is:  <apex:page standardController="Opportunity">    <ce4sf20_001:AeSalesGuides objectType="Opportunity"  objectId="{!Opportunity.Id}"  extraInfo="{!JSENCODE(Opportunity.Name)}  ({!JSENCODE(Opportunity.Account.Name)})"/>                  </apex:page>  To replace this page, I first went to the Opportunity screen layout editor and removed the existing VisualForce page for Cloud Extend guides.  Then I replaced it with the “mobile-enabled” VisualForce page that I just created.  Step 3. Testing that it Works!  The final step is to test that it works.  So now open the Salesforce 1 app and navigate to an Opportunity object:  The Cloud Extend guide launcher appears (I only had the “Update Selected Opportunity” guide published for smartphones.  If there were other Cloud Extend mobile guides published for Opportunities, they would have also appeared in this list). Next I click the “Update Selected Opportunity” and a new window within Salesforce 1 launches: Clicking on the Cloud Extend "Update Selected Opportunity" guide again starts the guide running: When the guide finished, I clicked the arrow in the top left of Salesforce 1 to take me back to the Opportunity object that first initiated the Cloud Extend guide. So there you have it!  A a quick way to integrate Informatica Cloud Extend working in the new Salesforce 1 application. Of course there may be other ways to integrate Cloud Extend into Salesforce 1 and we will certainly be looking at those options going forward.
