E72 screws up mailboxes

Adjusting a setting in Email on my E72 relating to Ovi Mail, my two non-Nokia mailboxes disappeared from the standby screen and apparently from the phone altogether.
The phone told me it couldn't set up the mail addresses I've lost, both of which I have used on the phone for over a year.
I had backed up the phone to the memory card a week ago, specifically because it was working 100% for the first time in ages.
So I backed up my messages, calendar items and contacts to my PC using PCSuite, restored the week-old memory-card backup and apparently got my e-mail accounts back. Then, when I restored the items from PCSuite I got eight-month old messages and lost my mailboxes again.
Any ideas why this kind of tomfoolery has to happen with this phone, which has also managed to combine e.g. my brother's UK cell number and the number of a hotel in Copenhagen, Denmark.
What is the use of a backup if it just screws up the phone again??
Less than two weeks ago I was advised to use PCSuite instead of Ovo Suite because my contacts got completely messed up, with some getting quitrupled and 50 % of them at least doubled up.
As the saying goes: This is getting silly!

I have just repeated the above - to me pretty darned logical - procedure. How can a backup of messages taken today and then put back on the phone the same day, give me messages that were not on the phone when the backup was made (they're from February)???
How do both Ovi Suite and PC Suite mess people about so badly???
I need a fix for this and Hard Reboot isd not in the equation - I am done reinstalling all my software every other week. My time costs me money and spending it on a phone that should function better than this keeps people waiting.

  • E72 Scoll among mailboxes and adding a 3rd box to ...

Hi - new E72 user and am curious how I can do the following:
    1. If I am in a mailbox's inbox, and I want to go to my other mailboxes, is there some shortcut I can use to scroll through the inboxes of each mailbox?  Currently I am scrolling to the top of the screen and then clicking into the folders drop menu, then manually scrolling all the way down to each mailbox.
    2. I have 3 email account on the device, but only 2 are showing on the dashboard.  Can I add a third one?  This way I can click into it directly from the dashboard.
    Thanks!
    Marshall

    Why do you ask?
Just add the name in front of the array by concatenating two arrays:
    app.activeDocument.metadataPreferences.keywords =
    ["MyCompanyName"].concat(app.activeDocument.links.everyItem().name);
Note: the names of the links will also include the file suffixes like .tif, .eps etc.

  • E72 selecting default mailbox

I can't seem to figure out how to change the default mailbox that is used when sending photos from the gallery. I have two email accounts setup, and when I choose 'send' from the photos gallery, it automatically selects one. I would like to change it to use the other email account, but even though I've set the one I want to use as the 'primary' account i the email and homescreen settings, it uses the other one. Anybody have thoughts?
    Nokia E72-2

actually, when sending a photo, after selecting "by email" a pop up windows should open allowing you to chose which account to use, showing a list of the accounts with, on top,  the "default" one

  • E72 Missing Outgoing Mailbox settings option

I've recently got an E72 and I'm trying to set-up email (via Lineone)
I've done the inbox thing ok but can't send anything.
On the Advanced Mailbox settings, there is no Incoming mailbox or Outgoing mailbox settings option.
I've searched high and low but can't find anything that will let me have access to the Outgoing mailbox.
    Am I missing something?

If you are using IMAP then you need to subscribe to the "Sent" folder and any others that you want in your phone.

I have almost the same problem. Except I use exchange 2003 and my nokia log file tells me the event is malformed:
    05-09-2011 23:22:24 malformed recurrence element
05-09-2011 23:22:24 Failed to add item on device, server ID=2:576
    05-09-2011 23:22:24 malformed recurrence element
05-09-2011 23:22:24 Failed to add item on device, server ID=2:583
    05-09-2011 23:22:24 client->server adds=0 changes=0 deletes=0 fails=1
I did some research and found out that my iCal (OsX) creates some what different iCalendar entries than my exchange 2003 OWA interface. My E72 accepts recurring events created using OWA but declines events created with iCal.
The problem can be found in the format of the event. An recurring event written with OWA has the following recurring rule:
    RRULE:FREQ=WEEKLY;INTERVAL=1;UNTIL=20111205T130000Z;BYDAY=TU;WKST=MO
My iCal creates the following rule:
    RRULE:FREQ=WEEKLY;INTERVAL=1;UNTIL=20111205T130000Z
You should notice the absence of the BYDAY and WKST entries. However these are not required by RFC 5545 (http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc5545#section-3.8.5). So iCal doesn't create ambigues events. Which are accepted by Exchange, Thunderbird and most other calDav supporting software.
The best solution would be to adjust nokia's calDav/iCalendar implementation so it accepts less strict items instead of rejecting them. Hopefully some Nokia employees will read this post and help us solve this problem.
I dont know whether this is also the problem of the previous poster, but it's worth investigating.

  • E72- Unable to send e-mail from work mailbox

I am unable to send e-mails from my work e-mail through my E72 although it receives perfectly. I have been in contact with Nokia via e-mail for the last 2 weeks and they have sent several suggestions to solve the issue but nothing is working. I have set-up my work e-mail on my husbands Blackberry  with the same settings and can receive and send perfectly. From that I conclude there is no issue with the settings I have or my work e-mail but with
Nokia!! The latest 'help' I have received was to download a patch but I have no idea how to do this and get it onto my phone. So far Nokia have not replied to me.
Any suggestions how to get this to work would be greatly appreciated

If you're using a much older firmware, updating the phone would be a good idea.  Find the Software Updates section of nokia.com and type your phone model.  If you can't do an over-the-air update, download and install either the OVI Suite or the standalone Software Updater.  This may hard reset the phone, so back up anything important with OVI Suite first.
Ignoring firmware for now, IMAP and URL's are like apples and oranges.  If you work for a small company, the server may always be called " mail.mycompany.com", but IMAP will never use an HTTP or HTTPS prefix.  URL's are typically associated with Microsoft Exchange servers.  Within the email program, check Options -> Settings -> Mailbox settings -> Mailbox settings -> Advanced mailbox settings.  Are "Outgoing email settings" set to something like
User authentication: Same as for incoming
Outgoing mail server: <compare to the setting for the Incoming server name; in a small company this will likely be the same>
Since you're getting far enough for the mail sever to reject your connection, the other settings should be fine as-is.
It does look like an authentication issue, so I'd say you're either hitting the wrong server or there's a bad username or password in there somewhere.  If the Blackberry works with an IMAP connection, then you should be using the same server name(s), and user/password.
If all else fails, you can always try removing and readding the mailbox completely.  Choose Menu -> Applications -> Email -> Settings -> <highlight your work account> -> Options -> Remove mailbox.  And then set it up from scratch.  I hope that helps a little!

  • E72 - Unable to set up e-mail mailbox after firmwa...

    Hi all,
I have a newly acquired E72-1 which has been updated to the latest firmware version 051.018.
I'm trying to set up the e-mail function on my E72 but getting nowhere.
I keep getting to the enter e-mail details/password etc page then…nothing. The mail box has not been set up, each and every time.
From the home screen, I hit setup e-mail>start e-mail setup>start
Then it asks ‘connection needed’ connect to: and I click yes and it shows ‘Preparing setup’…
Then it shows a screen with all the e-mail services, from the top: Ovi Mail, Yahoo Mail, Google Mail, Windows Live, BT Internet, Mail for Exchange, Lotus Notes, Other
From here, if you click on the various choices such as Gmail or windows live for Hotmail, you get the enter user name + password boxes…once these are filled in
You get the detecting e-mail settings tab for a few seconds…then it reverts to the screen showing the e-mail services.
I have tried this dozens & dozens of times without success…no mail boxes have been set up. It just cycles through the setup process each time.
I have even done a Hard reset on the E72 and tried to set up e-mail after…with no luck.
Any suggestions?? I have to say I’m getting very cheesed off as e-mail was the main reason to get the E72!!
Has the Nokia Messaging service been switched off??
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I came to this discussion because google indicated it when I searched 'nokia E72 unable to create mailbox'.
'Unable to create mailbox' used to be a huge headache for me to use E72 for over one year and half. I tried to soft and hard reset the device, brought it to Nokia Care Point to spend 15 pounds to re-install the whole system, or call the customer service line again and again for a continuous one year, but the problem still existed. To be honest, I was not satisfied with Nokia customer services at all. The staff at the Nokia Care Point only cared about charging money. After the first re-instalation when the problem still existed, they said I had to pay more to process other checks. In terms of technicians from the customer service line, they were helpless. I called them again and again. Each time when I called, there was a different technicain, and I had to repeat the situation again and again. They only knew to suggest me do the basic reset, including to try *#7370# or to reset factory factory settings, which I had tried over hundreds times. They even used remote control application to install some remote app on my E72 and did some checks from their ends, but still it didn't help. When the technician realised he/she didn't have another method, they promised to call me back later, but they never did. I was so disappointed with their service. It took around an hour or longer each time I called. When the problem couldn't be fixed, I had to call again and repeat the problem from the beginning again to a new line advisor. It was so time and money consuming!!!! And what was the most annoying was that they were not helpful! After such torturing experience, the problem still existed! It was a frustrating and exhausting experience from 05.2011 to this year 06.2012... I gave up Nokia in the end, though it used to be my favourate phone.
Sorry to make such a long complaint. I just want to provide a feedback to Nokia, so as to let them know that their poor service and products are losing former loyalty clients.
    ===============================================
Right, back to the problem, 'unable to create mailbox'. Finally, I figured out what the problem was. It was a conflict between the device E72 and network provider, O2, for my case.
I am in the uk and use monthly contract of O2 sim card. The O2 network provides three kinds of data package: O2 Active, O2 Mobile network, and O2 Pay&Go. When I create mailbox or use Maps GPS, it access to the internet via O2 Par&Go by default, no matter how I set the priority of the connection destination. But when I changed the access point to O2 Active or O2 Mobile Network, the mailbox was able to be created and Maps app was able to recevie GPS data.
    So here is my solution.
    1) Hardset the device. Remember to backup all the data beforehand.
The method is to press Shift+Space+Backspace together with the power button when the device is powered off. Press until the device is restarted and the main screen, normally it should be Nokia's two hands joined together image, is seen.
    2) Go to menu --> Ctrl. panel --> Settings --> Connection --> Destinations
There, you will find all the access points.
    3) Go to Internet
Hopefully you will have the same options as I do, O2 Active, O2 Mobile Web, and O2 Pay&Go
Scroll to O2 Pay&go, click options, choose 'delete' to delete the O2 Pay&go option. (Don't worry to delete it, as the internet can be access to via the other two options without any problem.)
    4) Go back to Destinations, do the same to Multimedia msg, WAP services, and Intranet.
Delete any O2 Pay&go options for these category.
    ===========================================================
Then, your phone should be ready to set up mailbox and to use gps without any problem. That was what happened to my Nokia E72.
    Good luck!
Now, I feel my E72 is so powerful after the push mail and GPS function is recovered. But still, I am not satisfied with Nokia's service and will definitely not try any other of its products. Nokia has lost my loyalty and I believe I am not the only one.

  • Error when setup a new mailbox, nokia e72, pls hel...

I bought a Nokia E72 several days later. I really love it. I defined an Email mailbox for my company's Email. It is a POP3 mailbox. The mailbox worked well for some days, I can check, send Email using wireless LAN at home and my office.
Yesterday, I tried to edit my mailbox. As I selected the mailbox in order to change it, nothing happened. Because of that, I deleted it, then I tried to create a new one. But since then I can complete the malbox-setup task. After inserting the data, I select "save" to save the mailbox, there is a error: "error occurred in setup mailbox. Try again." I tried many time, but no success.
Someone can solve this problem? pls help!
    Thanks

    I have the same issue.

  • E72, IMAP mailbox disappearing

    Hello,
I got a E72 that got in China and I got some major issues with a SMTP/IMAP mail setup.
(I got my Hotmail set up as well and it works just fine)
I have updated my phone to the latest firmware - as of today.
Okay, when I go in and setup my smtp account it works for some time, but then the mail counter will disappear from the home screen and in the also under Menu/Email (The Hotmail account is still there). I have to restart the phone and it normally comes back. This has been going on for some time now.
Lately I have had a new issue with this IMAP account, now I can see the mailbox, but I can't open the mails! I see all the mails in the inbox, but I can't open them or delete them. If I try a couple of time the phone jumps back to the home screen and I can't even access the mailbox. The phone still gets all the new mails whenever I get new mail.
Hope there is some help out there, Thanks.

I have seen the same issue with IMAP mailbox disappearing. At times I've noticed that if you have the mailbox already open and then try to open it again say after a short gap, the mailbox disappears. But it actually does not and once you go to the already open mailbox by looking at all open apps, your mailbox opens. I will have to think this is a bug in E72. Latest FW does fix few memory issues with email but its still far from being perfect.

  • E72 Outgoing Mailbox settings option is not there...

I'm using Gmail and in the mailbox settings->Advanced Mailbox Settings. theres not outgoing mailbox settings or incoming mailbox settings.
My sister uses the exact same E72 and sha has those options on her gmail account.
I need those to set the settings if not I cant send any email from my E72!

If you are using IMAP then you need to subscribe to the "Sent" folder and any others that you want in your phone.

  • E72- Can't delete mailbox

Hello. I have a problem. I configurated the email, but entered a wrong code in imap-settings. I can send but not receive mail.(Custom, not OVI, Yahoo or Exchange). Then I created a new box but it wouldnt work, so I deleted it. Then I tried to delete the original box, but no such luck. It is impossible to remove it. I really have no clue about what to do. There is no way I can change the settings inside the box either. Anyone who can bring me out of my misery? :-)

I had this problem with "Unable to delete the mailbox and so on." message. I was able to delete mailbox by this way:
    1. Visit the Messaging - Email site https://email.nokia.com/account/login.action . Your user name is the first email address you used when you signed up for Messaging - Email. (In my Google Chrome this link was not opened, but in IE it was all right).
    2. After login click "delete" nearby the mailbox name, that you wanted to del.
    3. Try to connect to any mailbox from your E72 or just reboot smartphone.
many information you can find here: http://europe.nokia.com/support/product-support/messaging/messaging-email/how-to-for-s60/quick-guide...
I hope it will help you.

  • Nokia E72: Urgent:Mailbox disappears when 'memory ...

    Hello Nokia,
I had set up my corporate email account on my phone. Bydefault it uses Phone Memory for storing all messages. I tried to change the Memory In Use in option by selecting 'Memory Card'
    Messaging->Settings->Other->Memory In Use->Memory Card
After this change my corporate mailbox disappears and I no longer see the mailbox. However when I change the setting back to 'Phone Memory', The mailbox appears. Is this a bug or normal function ?
Also is there a way I can transfer all my email messages currently on the phone memory to memory card ?
Do I need set up the email again after changing the memory setting? Is that the only way out ?
Appreciate quick response as I am worried about my phone memory getting used up fully.
     Thanks
    Venks

Yes it goes, you have to setup email once again when you change the storage to memory card there is no way to transfer the mails stored in the phone memory to card. If you are dealing with some important mails its better to store them on the phone memory, if ur memory card gets corrupted or unusable it would be difficult or no way to get those mails back, also you make sure u delete unwanted mails when u use phone memory as it may eat up phone's memory making it slow and lagging its better to maintain some considerable amount of space in the phone.
If a reply has solved your problem click Accept as solution button, doing it will help others know the solution. Thanks.

  • My Mail is just completely screwed up.  Extra "Gmail" mailbox showing up

Can someone PLEASE help me?? :/
I copied my old "Mail" folder from Leopard. Then I copied it into my user "Libary" folder in Snow Leopard. Now, Mail opens and I have a "Inbox" and a "Sent" box under "Mailboxes". I also now have something under "Mailboxes" that says "Gmail"...that has another subfolder called "Gmail"...and then THAT has subfolders named All Mail, Drafts, Sent, Spam, Starred, Trash, Gmail Trash, Travel. It's like Mail is importing EVERYTHING from gmail. I dont want this! I want my old style of Mail back. I dont even care if I back up my previous emails, I just want Mail to work how it used to.
I never had this "Gmail" folder in mail before. Mail just used the standard Inbox, Sent, Drafts, etc. Now it's pulling everything from Gmail. Also, I sent myself a test email. That email showed up in the "Sent" box, but it never came to my "Inbox".
    Im really HATING snow leopard:/

Software Update should present the option to update to 10.6.1 -- I cannot think what may be inhibiting it? Open Software Update update, and then click on the Tab for Installed Software -- what updates of stuff are listed?
Insofar as your screenshot, that is normal for a Gmail IMAP account. Above the Gmail folder, the Inbox and Sent are your actual Inbox and Sent for this Gmail account. I don't pay any attention to these folders, mostly because they are far down the Sidebar below my many On My Mac mailboxes, below those types of folders for my other IMAP account. However, if you go to your setting on the Gmail web pages, in Forwarding and POP access, you can click the Advanced menu to exclude most of them, especially the All Mail -- I do. I can recheck how I have instructed others about how to do this, but you should be able to find it on your own. It is not messed up, but standard unless altered by excluding some of these folders. These folders are on the Gmail server, and you can see them via webmail access as well.
Were you perhaps previously accessing as a POP account?

  • E72 'Add to my Nokia Messaging account' VS Create ...

    Hi,
When adding an email account such as GMAIL my Nokia E72 gives me 2 options:
Add to my Nokia Messaging account
Create a separate mailbox that uses manual delivery
Again, this is an UI improvement: There is no contextual help or information regarding both options...
What are the pros and cons of using either options? Also, Vodafone proposer a similar application to connect to my mail accounts, do you know if it is any better?
    Thanks,
    Yvsn

There is no cost for using Nokia Messaging. It does say that it is a trial version but unofficially it appears it will be a never ending trial, and anyway you won't suddenly get charged for using it.
You can use NM and Exchange and any other email clients at the same time although NM may say you already have software to receive mail but just select yes and it will carry on with the set up. You can set it to autostart or manual. I use 'Email on 3' push software but have identical accounts set up in NM which I can manually start and it will download the same emails - I use it if I need or want to see the email using html which '3' doesn't at the moment.

  • Can't Sync IMAP Sent Mail on E72 and other issues!

Has anybody any idea why Nokia felt it a good idea to release a phone with a mail client, that supports IMAP, but DOESN'T sync your sent mail? It is such a ridiculous omition that I am lost for words. I actually recommended the E71 to our IT department a few years ago but the mail client was so poor, we ended up getting 15 phones and 15 Profimail licences. The IT department have asked me to recommend the next phone as the E71 was a big hit and I asked them to get me this E72 to test. It is with great reluctance that I am going to try the iphone instead and recommend that as I believe the mail client on it is very good and the E72's is totally hopeless unless you go through the Nokia Messaging server, which obviously a corporate isn't going too. Before I knee jerk though, has anyone else had this issue and found a way around it?
Also, the predictive text is shocking now, the web browser is so buggy and closes without warning due to memory issues all the time.
Oh, the optical control pad is dreadful and totally useless and the select key also doesn't work in off-line mode, so the E72 is useless on a plane.
Nice to see that Nokia took the very good E71, played with it, broke it, made it far worse and buggy, stuck a new case on then released it as the E72. I remember the days that a Nokia phone worked from the minute you bought it, but now with firmware updates Nokia feel they can release half baked phones by the dozen, monthly. Pathetic.
Oh, and this is the latest firmware, too!
And one other thing, OVI Suite, PC Suite and the umpteen other applications that all do useful things....can Nokia not just release one main PC support app that works and has ALL the features under one roof? I have to installed them all on my PC as well as loads of other sync and office apps on the phone (like OVI Files) just to do the obvious things that you use a modern smartphone for.
Nokia, there is a very obvious reason why you are losing market share at the moment, and it isn't because people trust Google or like DRM and fruit pictures on their phones. Get a grip will you?
If anyone can help primarily with the Sent Mail sync issue in Nokia Email (without suggesting I route all my mail through Nokia's unreliable servers and divulge all my passwords), I would be very Grateful Indeed.

I had a number of problems setting up Google Apps with my phone. Mail, Calendar and Tasks were not syncing.
    Mail
Ok here is the solution to your sent mails problem. I have spent far too long setting up google apps to sync properly with my new E72 (latest software installed). It really is a superb phone but if Nokia is not going to fully support integration with Google Apps with a simple app then Android and Blackberry will simply take over for Apps users. It really isn't up to Google to solve this its up to Nokia. Are you going to move from Google Apps or change your phone????
I have gmail and  business google apps accounts and both are now syncing properly with what seems to be pretty good Nokia email software on the phone. This is allowing me to receive, send, view attachments, view sent mail etc. Here are the steps I took from the beginning.
    1. Enable IMAP for the google accounts. Couldn't get anything to work otherwise.
    2. Follow this instruction https://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=78887
    3. Your inbox should now be working however you now need to map the folders you want to see on your mobile. While at your inbox go to >settings>mailbox settings>what to sync>folder subscriptions.
    4. Click on Gmail and highlight the folders you want to see
    5. Go back to your inbox and go to the dragdown list of folders and highlight 'More Folders'. Under 'Gmail' you will find your sent items along with attachments etc. Problem solved. Its not a pretty solution but at this stage like me you just want something that works.
    Calendar
This was a nightmare and I am now running a third party app called Googasync which is working fine. In 10 days time I will need to buy this so if someone knows how to setup calendar syncing properly without it please let me know.
    Tasks
Googasync will not sync Tasks and I don't know if there is any app out there that will. If someone can help please let me know. Surely this should be pretty simple!?!?!
By the way I mailed Nokia support last Thursday on the above but have not received a reply.
In summary its a great phone and I've moved from a Blackerry Bold to it but I shouldn't be spending days finding workarounds!!
