E72 v31 and Nokia Chat

I upgraded to v31 and Nokia Chat will not open anymore.  I have also tried a hard reset, but it won't get past "updating" the chat program.  I would put in my ovi account details and it would say that there is a temporary service problem (code-2).

Hi Friends
Today i tried to install nokia chat it asked me to update the service and i said yes, thereafter it asked for access point and i got all the four IM's.
I hope the problem was into the nokia messaging ( client delivery server) and now its being rectified. I tried it over my Nokia e72 and now i am online on all 4 IM's.

  • Nokia Mail and Nokia Chat powered by Yahoo will be...

    Hi all,
We will be discontinuing Nokia Mail and Nokia Chat on 9 March, 2015 and if you are using such service you will need to take action to save existing emails.  Beginning 9 March, 2015, you will no longer be able to sign in, access your existing emails, or send and receive new messages using your Nokia Mail or Nokia Chat address.  To saveexisting emails, you must copy your Nokia Mail to another email service or to your computer before 9 March, 2015.  You can save your Nokia Mail to an IMAP or POP-enabled webmail service or an app on your computer andcan find out more about how to do this here: http://nokiamail.com/bye
If you use your Nokia Mail or Nokia Chat address to sign in to Yahoo services such as Flickr, you will no longer be able to do so after March 9, 2015 and all your data and content will be deleted. If you’re a Flickr user, follow this link to move your photos to a new Flickr account in order to prevent losing your photos: https://help.yahoo.com/kb/flickr/SLN7315.html?impressions=true
If you have been using Nokia Mail as your contact email for other apps or services, we advise you to update your profile on these services to use an alternative email address.  We recommend that you let your friends and family know about your new email address as well.
We will let you know of any further guidance on how you can save your existing messages to another service, or an app on your device or computer.
    Thank you,
Nokia Mail and Nokia Chat Team

IMAP mail accounts have a remote view of the emails on the server.
You 'subscribe' to see the contents of server folders.
Only the headers are downloaded and when you select an email the folder is copied to a temp cache to facilitate quicker access to that folder.
These emails are not stored on your computer.
If you choose to 'synchronize' folders, then a copy of the folder is downloaded to your thunderbird Profile folder.
This means you can view those emails when in offline mode. These emails are on your computer, BUT as these folders are set to synchronize, it means that folder can get updated by the server, if emails are removed off the server and you synch, you will see all of those emails disappear from Thunderbird to synch and match the server.
So the best method is to synchronize the folder to get emails onto your computer, then go into 'offline' mode so that Thunderbird cannot connect with server.
Then move those emails into suitable folders in Local Folders.
The 'Local Folder' folders will be stored on your computer and will not be efected by the IMAP mail account even when you later select to remove it.
You can use this addon to create a backup of Local Folder folders and emails and also synchronised folders in offline mode.
    * https://freeshell.de//~kaosmos/mboximport-en.html
Right click on folder in Local Folders (or a synchronized folder in offline mode)
    select 'Importexporttool'
then you have a selection of methods available.

  • Nokia chat and Social not working on N8

Two moths ago, there was an update to nokia chat. I've installed it, but afer that nokia chat ceased to function. When I entered it, it just said "Service temporarily unavailable. Please try later". Same thing happened with Social. I hoped that this would get solved with symbian anna, but it didn't. Now, when i enter the app, only the loading screen appears, the one with welcome to ovi, an then nothing. It just exits the app. Note that I uninstalled and reinstalled these apps many, many times, but still, they do not work. I would very much apperciate your assistance.
    Best regards.

Hey, I have the same problem - did not see any update on this yet. Has this been solved or Nokia has not yet replied?

  • Nokia n85 and nokia e72

can anyone tell me which phone is better  between nokia  n85 and nokia e72 .

Which is better depends on which features you use the most and whether you prefer qwerty or T9.
Perhaps read the specifications and reviews of both and see which best suits your needs?
You should also consider the N86 which is far better than the N85 but again very different to the E72.

  • Maps in E72, compass and map rotation glitches

The new OviMaps 3.03 and E72 with the magnetic compass has a few problems:
    - The compass "takes over" map rotation in E72, the map will not rotate according to GPS heading information at all. If the compass does not work (magnet nearby, inside a car etc.), the map will not rotate automatically, it's relying solely on the compass. Very annoying, especially since the compass loses its calibration quite easily. Thus, the map is unsuable in a car or a "spora" (tram).
    - When using an external bluetooth GPS, the compass is "whited out", apparently being overridden by the heading data from the GPS. ...which is not shown, the compass wheel simply turns white. This happens as long as a BT GPS is used and is giving speed and heading to the E72. This is a clear bug. Nokia, please solve this.
    - There is apparently no way to get the E72 OviMaps 3.03 to rotate according to GPS heading info?
    - The tendency to lock the position to a nearby road is much too strong in 3.03. This is very bad, since the map rotation is affected by the orientation of the road onto which the dot is placed, further hampering the direction of map rotation. Since most people will use the OviMaps while walking, this "road locking" tendency needs to be tuned down a lot. It makes the compass &rotation ever less usable.
    - The "simplified" user interface of OviMaps is now giving even less GPS information than before. Next it will probably be as useless a an iPhone, when it comes to wanting to know how many satellites it is trying to get a fix on. Believe it or not, this is very useful information to anyone who wants to get a fix in a challenging environment. It's frustrating to watch a single yellow line blinking an not having a clue wheter one is missing one or four satellitse fixes to get a location.
Has anyone else been having these same problems, especially with the rotation? (E72-1 022.007, OviMaps 3.03)
I've played with a huge bunch of different GPS & Mapping devices ever since the NAVSTAR system went public some 20 years ago. It is fun to see how the system is now quickly becoming a household thing in every single pocket, but to keep it genuinely helpful you need to be extra careful with these little features and tunings.
(BTW; I've never gotten the compass to calibrate with the 8-move instructed in the manual. 4 or 5 quick flicks of the wrist are the only way to get the thing calibrated at all)
In many other ways, the OviMaps is a nice and handy application. Thanks.

Hi  my fE 72 firmware ver is 024.029, upgraded to 3.03 maps two days back. There are issues and Nokia better not sleep on them other wise this is useless for the users.
The problems in previous and this ver -
    - the compass does not lock easily, will remain in yellow  or red, do what everr u do?
    - As pointed out in by you, in side car or near any electric applices , the compass direction  goes heywire.
    - sycronisation gets stuck
    TYhe new version -
    - In old version there was option in the setting to turn the compass on or off , so while driving if the compass is not getting locked, u could turn it off and by default the map would orient itself in the driving direction. now as pointed out by you. the the map compass doesnt get locked or the calibration doesnt stay at speed and the map gets locked with north to top, so there are situation when your poisition in the maps is moving in diametrically opposite/ tangential direction to your travel .
How can a compasny bungle  up on such safety and reliability issues, specially on a product ( navigation/maps)which is in existance for almost a DECADE AND IS ABSOLUTELY MATURE PRODUCT TECHNOLOGY WISE.
tHE e72 SOFTWARE WAS DEVELOPED IN SLUMBER  SO IS THIS 3.03 MAPS. nOKIA GET OUT OF HYBERNATION, THERE ARE TOO MAY ALTERNATIVES FOR CUSTOMERS NOW.
Nokia either take off this from shelf or be ready to get public lawsuits on accout of accidents caused by people driving with these maps on.

  • N95 Software Update and Nokia Harrassment

    Hi There,
I have think Nokia is getting more creative in finding various ways of making money from poor people.
But the question is will this make them rich or lose customers.
    Look at this story.
I purchase a Nokia N95 - 8GB from Delhi, India on 29th Feb 2008 and then moved to Sydney last month. I have an HP laptop with Vista Ultimate 64-bit and the latest PC Suite (6.86).
Initially, I had a problem with connecting N95 to the PC Suite on my laptop. Windows crashed on installing PC Suite and gave a blue screen with the error on WUDFRD.sys. I called the Nokia Careline and they didn't the issue (though the issue is all over internet). They advised me to speak to Microsoft for the same.
However, the issue got resolved when i installed Vista SP1.
Which means that Nokia PC Suite does not work with Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit but works with Vista SP1.
Day before yesterday, I found out that Nokia has released a new firmware for N95 - 8GB (version 20) so I tried to update it using the Nokia Software Updater. After downloading the latest software and the firmware from the internet, the Nokia Software Updater crashed saying: "Nokia Service Layer Host Process Has Stopped Working" and the update never happened. I looked up the internet and there are many instances of this problem.
I called the Nokia Careline at 1300 366 733 and to my surprise they said that my internet connection has a problem, though I clearly mentioned that both the firmware and the software update is downloaded from the internet, but he insisted that the server is busy and so I cannot download the update. Really laughable.
He also diagnosed that because I am using Vista SP1, the software is crashing, I should call Microsoft to downgrade to Vista without SP1. Question is… If I downgrade to Vista Ultimate from SP1, I will not be able to connect to the PC Suite. I upgraded to SP1 because of Nokia PC Suite.
However, he advised me to go to the Nokia service center and they will be able to update the software.
Now, this is classic. I reach the Nokia service center and show my mobile and the receipt of purchase. He says it is not covered under warranty because I purchased it India and so I will have to pay $49.50 for the upgrade and he cannot guarantee whether the phone will work after that.
Firstly, the Nokia Software Updater doesn't work from the Nokia site and then they ask us to pay for it. It is a Nokia Phone which is released less than a year and they do not recognise the phone manufactured by them.
This raises a few questions on Nokia's work ethics:
    1. Do they test the applications they make available to the public.
    2. Do they want us to pay for even their errors which we test as faulty? They should be paying us for testing for them and the inconvenience caused.
    3. A phone is only to be used in the county of purchase. If you go abroad, buy a new phone.
If you have faced any similar problems, please share with all of us. I do not think Nokia is listening but we can create our own community to fight against this wrong-doing of Nokia. We buy expensive phones which then are money-minting and money laundering option for Nokia.
    Thanks a ton for listening.

While this is frustrating and as the previous poster has mentioned it is a common problem.
However, both my desktop machine and my laptop are running Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate Service Pack one, I am though running the 32-Bit version of Vista becuase it is less hassle with drivers.
Previously I was running the "gold" version of Vista.
Other than a small installation problem on my Laptop, I have had no problem updating a large number of handsets with either computer.
Lets have a look to see if we can resolve the problem or at least get some way forward.
You are not the only one that has had problems, and I'm not the only one that hasn't had problems. Unfortunately this problem could probably occour under any operating system including windows XP.
It could be that there is some software conflict on your machine that is causing the services that the updater is using to fail. Sometimes it helps to create a new windows user profile, and use as little background applications as possible, as windows PCs can use millions of hardware combinations, it could be your USB chipset thats causing a problem or some other kind of internal hardware incompatibility - if you have access to another machine perhaps try installing the NSU application on that and trying with a different machine? I know that with Vista x64 - all your drivers have to be signed, do you have any hardware thats showing as in error?
As for warranty issues, well I'm not able to comment on the Local warranty issues, I know that if you buy a Nikon Camera, with a "Nikon Worldwide Warranty" in Japan, and then return to the UK for example, then Nikon UK wont touch your camera at all if it goes wrong. So Nokia are not the only company that enforce a country rule - its quite possibly because manufacturers do not like grey imports of their products. (even though yours is not a grey import) Just checking the warranty terms on a SonyEricsson handset and a similar clause is listed, but it cites that the internal parts may not be similar to one sold in the country that it was not purchased in, and hence unrepairable in your new country.
With a Nokia Phone, in the European Union it is EU wide warranty. The terms of the Austrailian Warranty are here: http://www.nokia.com.au/A4521194 however it does say: "This Limited Warranty is only valid and enforceable in the country where you have purchased the Product provided that it is intended for sale in that country."
A similar line is detailed in the Indian Warraty terms here: http://www.nokia.co.in/A4536240
I'm not 100% sure but you may be able to get service from an agent in India, if you are willing to mail your handset to an Indian service centre should you not wish to pay for it (although postage may be more than the price you were quoted)
Previous expierence of Nokia Care Telephone assistance tells me that they will tell you pretty much anything - and like most companies its too easy to blame someone elses product, though its perhaps reassuring that its the same on the other side of the world
Hope I have been able to help you in some way.

  • Trouble with Yahoo in Nokia Chat v 3.5

I am experiencing a strange problem when I try to log in in Nokia chat using my Yahoo account. Everytime I try to do it, I get the Internal Server error.
I have tried with my mom´s yahoo account and it works perfect.
( I am also using yahoo mail as my email in the N8 but there is not problems there)
    Any help please?

Try trashing your preferences. You may need to reinstall the application. The Color Corrector should still be there. It hasn't gone anywhere in 3.5.

  • Three UK and nokia e71

I just recently upgraded with three from my n95 to a shiny new e71 and have the same problem other three users have which is that we cant update from v.100.07.76
I contacted three and they said they cant give a timeframe to the availability of an update and am wondering if there is any way of convincing them topull their finger out and make an update available as i am reading all the good things of the update and they are unavailable to me.

It could be a fault with the battery, but as the last poster says it is not normal.
I would take it back to three immediately and get them to try a new battery first. If its a few days old, I'd certainly protest for a new handset if it is faulty rather than have them "repair" it.

  • Itunes and nokia music

I recently got a nokia e66. I already had a fair bit of music i bought of itunes on my computer and i wanted to put that music on my phone. Is there anyway you can unlock itunes music so you can change its format and put it on your phone??

iTunes recently went 90% DRM free, however up until then, all your music would have been locked within a FairPlay wrapper, which unless you have iTunes or an iPod the wrapper could not be undone without the central keys from the music store.
Now any future purchase will as long as you purchase music from the iTunes store with a "+" by it will work as AAC format on your Nokia phone, I purchased a song the other day and it works fine on my E71.
Your old music, will however not work because the keys for FairPlay are not available for non-apple devices and software.
Unlocking it with software is not possible, and would probably not be legal, because its circumvention of a copyright protection device.
The only other way to play your music that you have purchased is to burn it to a CD, as a Music Disk.

  • Nokia Chat in FW 71.3 for E5 just connect by GPRS ...

I updated Firmware 71.3 for E5, when I use Nokia Chat (IM), it not ask to select connections, just connect by GPRS or 3G. Other Applications have not like this.
Cause of this problem is Firmware or IM? How to resolve?
    Thanks!

mrlonghairs1, you use a Nokia X2-02, right? That is a complete different operating system (Series 40) than here (Symbian). Looking at your profile and your previous questions, I think it is time to do a full ‘refurbish’ of the software (firmware). Officially, only Nokia Care Points have tools for that.

    Hi prasu7,
    Welcome to Nokia discussions board!
In order to fix this issue, I advise you to perform a soft reset on your phone: type *#7780#. Default lock code is 12345. If the issue persists, perform a hard reset. First of all, back up your data using Nokia Suite (Tools > Back up). Once your data is fully backed up,  type *#7370# on the keypad.
Alternatively, you may also check for updates on Nokia Suite (by going to Tools > Updates).
Then see if you can open the Nokia Chat application.
Let us know how you get on and feel free to post any other questions you may have.

  • Saab 9.3 BPIS Bluetooth System and Nokia

    Hello,
I Have a Saab 9.3 equipped with Saab's own bluetooth system named Bluetooth Phone Integration System. I works quiet well with my old Nokia 6310i. But at this time it needs replacement. I tried a Nokia E90 and E61, they connect but it is impossible to import phone numbers and contacts to the system. My question is which RECENT Nokia phone can be recommended so I can use or transfer the phonebook.
    Thanks very much

Have you tried the 810 contact downloader mentioned earlier and installed it correctly?
    /discussions/board/message?board.id=topfaq&thread.id=97
That Pool of Knowledge thread details exactly how to install the 810 downloader and in most cases to get it to work.
The Nokia E71 that I have has the PBAP profile installed which allows the phone to download the contacts into the car when it is connected in Handsfree profile mode. When you connect the phone to the car in SIM Access Profile mode the handset shuts down most of the functionality, including the ability to send the contacts into the car.
By correctly installing the 810 downloader the phonebook will then be copied in to the car in most cases. When I connect my E71 to my Audi S4, each time it connects it takes a minute or two to copy over the contacts and then functionality is available. However the Missed Dialled and Recieved calls will not be copied from the handset in SIM access mode, where upon the 810 downloaded comes into service and does that function.
The S40 handsets generally do not carry the SIM access mode, and whilst you get the phone connectivity with hands free profile and also the full phone book connectivity, you do not get the better reception that the SIM access car phone provides.
