after 1hour it still says waiting on gps...
does anyone have a clue what i did wrong or what went wrong?

greetz.

Hi Arkune
Firstly can you check for me by opening OVI Maps application > Options > Support > About - find what version of OVI Maps installed as the latest version is v3.04 10wk32 b03? There where issues using E72 with earlier OVI Maps version than this. If not that version go to Menu > Ctrl. panel > Phone > SW update - check for OVI Maps update and if present install it.
You need to be aware two processes at work, OVI Maps application which may be "Online" or "Offline" (Options > Settings > Internet) and Assisted GPS which requires a network access point found in Menu > Ctrl. panel > Settings > General > scroll down off screen to Positioning > Positioning server - check defined network access point. Sometimes network settings sent via SMS can end up in "Uncategorised" folder in Connectivity > Destinations and need moving to either Internet or WAP services folder.
If the Assisted GPS feature can't access network then very first positional fix can take quite a while to achieve and best to be outside with clear view of sky.
Let us know how you get on and if any further assistance required.

  • E72 issue with GPS

I have an E72-1 which I bought in Hong Kong. I have installed latest software and O/S updates.
Everything works fine, except that the GPS software which comes with the unit does not display my altitude or lat/ long co-ordinates. In fact the fields are not even on the tab along with the other data. Is this a region specific issue with this model, and more importantly is there anything I can do about it???
    Thanks

Which GPS aplication are you reffering to? Is it Ovi Maps ot GPS data?
The Position function in GPS Data should give you all the data you referred to but only once it has obtained a GPS position fix. It is says waiting for GPS, that means it does not have a position fix yet. This could take a while and will only happen if you are outdoors and the phone has a good view of the satellites in the sky.

  • Nokia E6 Searching for position / Waiting for GPS ...

I have a new nokia E6-00 with Symbian Anna (1 month old). I am very frustrated with the in-built GPS (Ovi Maps). It is working fine when it is connected to a Wi-Fi network, but when in OFFLINE mode it can not locate any satellites. It keeps displaying "searching for position" and "waiting for GPS". What should I do?
Note: I have only checked Assisted GPS and Integrated GPS as positioning methods because I do NOT want any internet traffic caused by Ovi Maps.

    Hello there,
I am writing because I am also having similar GPS difficulty with my E6-00.
Here are the proper problem description and some background info:
    - for the past year, I had been using the C6-00. Its then Ovi Map was awesome, worked great in Asia, US, EU.
    - and before that, I also had the E71 for 2yrs. Again, Ovi Map served well.
    - Both phones only required their built-in GPS to navigate either walking or driving (with "offline" and "mobile data off")
    Now the problem with E6:
    - When "offline" or "mobile data" is off, the GPS simply wont function AT ALL. Like OP said, it gets disconnected soon afterwards. My question is, this is intended for E6? In comparison, the result in E6 seemed like a huge flaw.
    - Navigation / Positioning also seem "messed up". I am in Taiwan, Map version v0.2.43.11. I did a test: I launched both Nokia Map and Google Map on E6. Google map was accurate, showing exactly where I am, but Nokia Map was offset for 500 meters!! This made navigation IMPOSSIBLE!
    Map versions:
    - C6: 0.2.46.103
    - E6: 0.2.43.11 (cannot be further updated)
Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.

  • Waiting for gps

My nokia N8 Ovi maps neither shows my position  or drive navigation..keeps waiting for GPS but never connects.
when connected to the WLAN it shows my position but around 1 km far off. i recently upgraded my old ovi maps by version 3.06. the old version 3.04 was fine with no problems.
tried  nearly all the solutions available over here. CAN NY ONE HELP ???

    @victor_n8
    Welcome to the forum!
During update process it says that the 00.01.25.114 mapping for v3.04 will be deleted and new mapping 00.02.42.122 for v3.06 will need to be downloaded.
Try going to Menu > Settings > Application settings > Positioning > Positioning methods - temporarily disable all except "Integrated GPS" then go outside away from tall buildings for 20 - 30 minutes required for very first positional lock to be acquired.

  • Maps and waiting for gps

hi guys please help a novice,
i recently upgraded to belle and since then i have been unable to get a gps fix it continually comes up with "waiting for gps" it worked fine on anna i have checked all settings as per previous posts on here an all is fine i have sat outside all day but still no fix !!! i own the n8 and love it to bits but wish to god i never updated to belle i ihave also tried lgs satellite from ovi but cant get a reading please help thaanks mark

    @farby
OP stated already tried third party GPS application!
    @jabba129
No doubt that you have tried enabling "Assisted GPS" only and waiting 20 - 30 minutes outside?
I would check in Menu > Settings > Conectivity > Settings > Mobile data - is it = On?
For a small number of users taking device to Nokia Care Point so that device can be re-furbished to return device to "Out of box" state with Nokia Belle software may be only solution, as then automatically sets up network setting for Assisted GPS to reach positional server = supl.nokia.com

  • X6 freezes on Waiting for GPS

HI I have a Nokia X6, and the maps and voice navigation used to work really well, but for the last few weeks, when I try to use it, it freezes on the Waiting for GPS screen and never actually connects.  Have had the phone for nearly 2 years but never had this problem before, altho I don't use the GPS function much.  I believe I have updated all recent software, I did it this morning thru my computer using Nokia software updater.  Any ideas?

Hey mssndependant, Welcome to the Nokia Forums!
    Have you made sure that
    -A-GPS is activated
-That you are able to receive packet data
-You have not maxed out your data plan allowance with your service provider?
If you have checked all of these and they are all fine, it might be a hardware issue and you will need to take the device to your local Nokia Care point to get your device inspected by a technical expert.
I hope this helps, please let me know if you have any further queries!

  • Waiting for GPS - Updating map app

Hello, I have a E71 and when I launch ovi maps and try to use it, it gives me the message: Waiting for GPS
Sporadically it finds enough satilites to calculate the position but most of the time it gives me that error message for hours.
Second thing is that I tried to update the ovi map app on my phone but I can't figure out how to do that. I have now version 3.03 and I tried to update using http://store.ovi.com/, but it gives me a message that it can't be updated using the site. I also tried the Nokia Suite for that but I can't find the app in the suite software.
Moderator's note: The post was moved to the most appropriate board so others can easily search for the same topic.

Today, navigation worked for about 20 minutes well! It worked fine, was able to find enough satelites and I was able to navigate and I was happy..., but then the fun ended and now it gives me the waiting for gps message again and the app can't find more than one satelite to determine position! By the way, I didn't changed any settings from the moment it worked.
    - About the version of the ovi map software, I googled a little and found pages talking about v3.04 and v3.06, for example here!
    - And than about Google Maps, can you maybe tell me how to install it? I searched in the Nokia Suite but I couldn't find it but maybe I do something wrong!
    Grtz

  • GPS Not working for E72

My GPS is not working for E72. I can get my position but I think that is because of A-GPS enabled.
I talked to customer care and they are saying "you must be in open space, no tall buildings etc" which is not practical.
I tried for hours, it always says "waiting for GPS" but never gets any thing.
It used to work earlier but then there was p problem [ no breathing light ] and I had to take it to serivce center, after that it never worked.
My E72 software version date is 031.023

  • Nokia E72 GPS

    Hello,
This is driving me to distraction on my Nokia E72 which I have been very pleased with everything on it, but the GPS receiver is pretty dire in my unit.
I have access points correctly configured and tried just about every combination of positioning methods to no avail.
Most of the time I end up having to set off in the car and sometimes the GPS gets a lock (having been set on waiting for GPS) and sometimes, it just never catches up and I switch it off. Worse, yesterday I started getting directions having supposedly got a lock, for all the wrong roads and directions as the phone thought it was somewhere else!
This has been on good clear days and days where it has been overcast.
Nokia Maps is set to online mode.
How do other people find the GPS in the E72? My phone is on v81.003, I can't upgrade it to a later version as it says there is none.
Mine is a SIM free unlocked phone from new.
    Thanks,
    Vicky

to be honest I have this problem with almost all GPS units (including tomtom). Particularly when not plugged into power (you know, they come with batteries in them though most people never use them)
Unless you have A-GPS going (and the network provides the data) it can often take me 20min to get a lock too.
Just ensure that the phone is in a place which is not buried within the car (metal shields it from signal) and that you're not in an area with lots of hills or tall buildings.
GPS of all flavors has limits.
I have tried using an external GPS (bought for my E63) which sometimes gets a lock better than the phone.
I suspect that when on battery that GPS units 'slow down' searching for sattelites to conserve power ...

  • E72 - The GPS connects very slow

    Hi,
When I turn on the Ovi GPS on my Nokia e72 it connects sometimes fast and can show my where am at BUT when I want a guide to show me the way to a location it takes sometimes 20 - 30 minutes to find a road. And I live in Sweden in a big city. It dosent mater if I hold it in the air standing still or if im at the road in my car. And it dosent matter if I hold it in a horizontal way.
    And the phone is updated..
Should I send it to service?

    Hi underr
No need to send your E72 for service, it is a software issue of which Nokia are aware:/t5/Maps-Navigation-and-GPS/quot-Waiting-for-GPS-quot-problem-in-my-Nokia-E72/m-p/736353/highlight/t...

  • Problems with email(Yahoo/Gmail) and GPS on E72

Hi, I just got a Nokia E72 and I can't access my mail. I can send emails through the emails I have set up, but I can't do anything else (including seeing my emails) All settings are matched to what they should be. In addition my GPS does not work. I've downloaded the newest Ovi Maps and everything. Google Maps works like a charm though, so I'm not sure what is up with the phone. Everything is being done through wifi, don't have my data plan set up yet. One thing I notice is that my phone always asks like "use/access wlan in offline mode." Does this mean anything? Thanks in advance.

    d_t_a wrote:
Just wondering, could you be more specific with regards to "can't access my mail"? Do you mean your Gmail/Yahoomail don't get sent to the cellphone?
With regards to the E72's internal GPS, I would try this first:
make sure that the "Integrated GPS" positioning method is enabled in the Positioning Method settings.
then, go to an open-air location with little obstructions like tall buildings or trees.
then, make sure to position the cellphone in view of the clear sky (make sure your hand doesn't cover the back portion of the cellphone where the GPS antenna is located)
remain stationary there for about 30 minutes.
If the GPS doesn't get a lock after the above procedure, then there might indeed be a problem with the GPS  of your cellphone. I noted during the first try of the GPS of my E72, it took a really long time to get first GPS lock. Subsequent GPS locks should generally be faster.
What's the use of remaining stationary there for about 30 minutes? You get a better lock while moving.

To find Ovi Maps for other phones visit Maps Support-http://www.nokia.co.in/get-support-and-software/download-software/maps-support/compatibility-and-dow...
How to install and setup GPS in nokia E-71.
Firstly Install Nokia Ovi Suite (advance version of PC Suite) in your respected computer.
    http://www.nokia.co.in/get-support-and-software/download-software/nokia-ovi-suite
After installation of Nokia Ovi Suite go to following link
    http://www.nokia.co.in/explore-services/ovi-maps/downloads?intc=ncomexpserv-fw-ilc-lft-con-na-ncomex...
Now install the the second link file into your phone, i.e., "nokia_maps_3.03_10wk11_b04_s60_3.1_rom.Nocs.sis".
After successful installation connect your phone with data cable in PC Suite (DON'T run PC suite application in your system) mode and open Nokia Ovi Suite application in your system.
Now in Nokia Ovi Suite application click on View-Go to-Maps (make sure your system is connected to Internet and your mobile phone key pad doesn't get locked, if keypad autolock period is on switch it off for that moment and your phone is fully charged, now in maps select Asia in that India and download that India Map (103 MB) into your phone.
Please Note that do not disconnect your phone from data cable else maps will not get downloaded and will not to be
    transferred to your phone.
After successful installation of maps into your phone download "Voice Guidance Languages", which ever is preferred by you, if you really want to enjoy it. Like- English(UK)-with street names or in Hindi, Tamil, Urdu.
Now you are almost done, just take your phone into your hand,
Go to Maps then select Options-then Settings
Internet-Connection-Offline ( don't worry your GPS will work fine as data bearer is Nokia which is free of charge, so just relax).
    Navigation-Drive Guidance-Select the desired Voice
Walk Guidance-Select the desired Voice or you can set it to Beeps and Vibrations (if downloaded).
Home Location- define you home location by searching in maps, this will make easier to drive back to home by simply selecting Drive Home option while using navigation.
Now go to option Map-Categories-select the categories you want to be shown on the map.
Its DONE, now search for any desired location press the selection button and then select Drive to or Walk to option and you will be connected to GPS.
Please Note as GPS needs free environment so it may not work in home and generally it takes 10-15 minutes to connect so please be patient.
    Worked perfectly for me
By the way, why doesn't the maps application work if I doenload all the maps instead of only India map??

  • General problems with Nokia E72-1

    Hey there,
I've got a couple of problems with my Nokia E72.
1 - GPS via Ovi Maps. I have to wait like 10-20 minutes even although I use aGPS to get a fix (to get the GPS signal)... And even tho I've got polish lector voice in the navigation installed it doesnt work. There are only two communicates working: "Now get off the roundabout" or "You will reach the destination". Why? I checked twice, I've got properly installed and choosen polish voice and polish maps.
2 - Random phone freeze. My phone freezes randomly. From time to time when I check the mobile, I notice its frozen. I can't perform any action, except getting battery out...
3 - Random message sounds getting disabled. It happened 5 minutes ago, it's the first time it happened. I get SMS, the screen is lighting and lighting all the time, until I read it. I checked the profile twice, I even setted the sound again, but it still doesn't work. I had to get battery out and reset the phone to make it work again.
Why are those problems? What should I do with it?

1 - GPS: Other people have complained about this, too, and there may not be a simple answer.  For me, I have been more careful where I hold my E73 (so as to not block the internal antenna) and the problem seems much less common.
1 - Polish Voice Navigation: Where are your map and voice files stored?  Look in \cities\diskcache\voices for a "polish_f" directory and the contents should look like this

If you are missing files, try deleting the entire contents of "voices" and downloading the navigation files again.  Even if all files appear present, you might try this anyway.  (Note: I don't think there is another way to refresh the voice files, but I haven't actually tried this myself.)
    2. This is a hard question to answer, as a freeze could be caused by anything.  But what is your phone doing when not in active use?  Downloading email?  Downloading podcasts?  Do you keep an IM or a Facebook program running?  My first guess is that one of these programs is causing the crash.  Try shutting things off, or factory reset the phone and install/setup each of these programs, one at a time, and install the next one only after a day or two has passed with no crashes.
    3. Other people have complained about this, too.  I don't currently have this problem, but please see this thread: /t5/Eseries-and-Communicators/E72-No-tone-vibration-upon-receiving-SMS/td-p/660837/highlight/true .
    I hope that helps!

  • Does BB GPS work on T-Mobile Pearl without a data plan?

I do not have a data plan with my BB.
The GPS entry under Advanced Options shows: GPS Data Source: None, BPS Services: Location ON.
I'd like to use the GPSLogger application that says it needs no data access to operate, but it sits on "Waiting for GPS data...".
What exactly is the "GPS Data Source" mentioned in the options?
    Thanks in advance.

okay, I was tricked by the following page :
    http://www.blackberry.com/blackberrypearl/8200/pearl_specifications.shtml
tha indicates that the application "BlackBerry Maps" is included on the 8220. Apparently, RIM believes it is interesting to have that application without an internal GPS receiver included.
    Sorry for the false hope.
here is a comparison of Storm, 8110, 8220 and 8230. All have a GPS receiver included except the 8220.
