E7450 Latitude keys repeating / sticking / bouncing. OS Linux Mint KDE 17.1 64 bit

Keys sticking and repeating.
Cannot be reproduced at will but will happen every few minutes or so while typing.
I have not seen this when booting in to Windows 7.
This problem makes this expensive computer frustrating to use.  There have been akin reports for the previous model which some have suggested has been fixed with a bios update.  Maybe when the Dell developers forked the bios development for the e7450 from the previous model, the bug went with the fork and needs to be patched in to the e7450 line.
Can Dell people please comment upon this, preferably with a fix or time line for a fix.

BIOS version A03 seems to have fixed this problem.

    1. Close all apps in the Task Bar. Double-click the Home button and hold apps down for a second or two. Tap the minus sign to close app.
    2. Hold the Sleep/Wake and Home button down until you see the Apple Logo.

  • Keys are sticking on a bluetooth keyboard

How do you take apart the wireless bluetooth keyboard to clean it? Some keys are sticking after it was cleaned.

I used some commercial workstation/keyboard spray cleaner. Previous to that some coffee has been spilled on it. However, I was able to lift some keys up a little and that seems to have broken whatever was making it stick.
I was wondering though, just in case something did happen that I needed to get into the keyboard, how I could take it apart.
    Thanks for the response.

  • Keyboard key repeat very slow after immigration

    Hi everybody,
when I got my macbook with Lion, I changed the keyrepeat to a bit higher speed, because I think the default is a bit to slow.
Then I changed my Harddrive and immigrated my user profile, except the User Data folders...
Then, I changed had to change my UID to make my old Userdata available again, and I guess, something may be went wrong here...
Wenn I change the keyrepeat speed in the keyboard preferences, there is no effect at all. It stays at the same speed, even if I turn of the keyrepeat.
Has anyone an idea, what I can check here?

Hm, ok, I cheered to soon.
It looks like it helps only for a few minutes??? I have to type the command and than log back in. If I test the key repeat within the shell it is perfect for my needs, but after a few minutes, it switches back to the old speed... That kind of *****....
Is there also an option to uncheck "This solved my question", otherwise I guess I have to open an new thread...

  • Upgrade to ML seems to have knocked out Key Repeat?

I've been on ML for a couple of weeks now and have just noticed that I cannot get the Key Repeat to work when holding down letter or number keys.
It works fine for punctuation marks and symbols.
Is it possible to produce a line like this mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm without having to keep tapping the key?

I have a different problem. Pressing & holding a key doesn’t bring up a menu; it results in very slow key repeats. Entering —defaults write -g ApplePressAndHoldEnabled -bool false— produced no change.
    Any suggestions?

  • Please tell me there is a fix to keep backspace key from sticking

Backspace key constantly sticks and wipes out most if not all I have types. Has done it twice in last couple of minutes while typing these posts or threads. Also, why is typing so slow or behind on 3G, but not so on the 2G.

I'm having the same issue even after updating to 2.0.2 yesterday. It wiped out a good deal of text. Until they come out with a fix, I have discovered that pressing "Done" when this is happening stops it. It's not a permanent fix, and you have to be fast before it erases a good portion of the text, but it's better than losing everything.

  • Mavericks won't let me use key repeat

You know, where you type "o" then hold it down for "oooooooooooooo."  Mavericks won't let me have that usibility in any program - mail, docs, internet.  Can't figure out how to turn this function back on.
I also lost the functionlity of swiping up with three fingers to go to the top of a page.  Crap, that was pretty handy.
Can anyone help me get these functionalities back?
    Thanks,
    Patricia

If you want to force the key-repeat, and disable the "Press and Hold" for additional characters, here is the terminal command:
defaults write -g ApplePressAndHoldEnabled -bool false
Log out and back in and key repeat should work for all keys. Checked in TextEdit, Safari, Pages, and Numbers.
you can enable in specific apps using
defaults write app plist ApplePressAndHoldEnabled -bool true
where app plist is something like com.apple.textedit.
Can't help with the finger-waving nonsense, since I only use a wired mouse w/o those capabilities.

  • Macbook Pro Key repeat problem

I've had my MacBook Pro for almost 2 years now but it's recently started to have keyboard repeat issues. The keys are not physically stuck but behave like they are, in a totally random manner - including the delete key and the space bar. Messages will end up lookinggggggg a bittttttt like thissssssssssssss. Very annoying.
This tends to be accompanied by a sluggish trackpad too. Then after a while - it behaves normally again.
I have nothing else attached - anyone any ideas?
    Thanks

I've been having an occasional key repeat problem for a while, I'd say for a year. I'll be typing, and then I'll stop, and the last key I pressed starts repeating and keeps going until I press another key. I've also seen it miss characters sometimes. This happens more often than a key repeating by itself. I'll be sure I pressed a key, but I get "wrds like ths." Maybe I'm just not pressing a key "deep" enough. Sometimes I've tried typing a bit slower and that seems to help.
I regret not bringing my laptop in for someone to look at earlier, but I've been very busy for the last couple years. The problem hasn't occurred often enough to make it a problem that I felt compelled to solve right away. It just feels like an annoyance, like, "Come on. This shouldn't have made it off the line like this!" I don't want to start a "war", but I had a Windows laptop before my Mac and I never had these problems with the keyboard. There are other attributes I like about my Mac, so it's annoying but not a big deal for me.
I usually run VMWare Fusion 2.0, and I've suspected that it's a culprit. The problem doesn't just occur on web pages, though that's where I usually notice it when it happens. I've seen it in TextEdit as well. What I notice is it happens when I've got something else running in the background taking up CPU time. Maybe the computer is swapping to/from disk. Sometimes I've seen it happen on a web page with some slow Javascript on it, again taking up CPU time. It seems to me it's a matter of the hardware or software missing the signal from the keyboard. Perhaps it's related to the "keyboard sleep" problem, which I've also seen, where the keyboard and trackpad just go dead. In this case I put the computer to sleep for a bit and then wake it back up. That brings both back for a bit, but it usually reoccurs, in which case I reboot it.
I've been hoping that Apple would come out with a patch for the key repeat problem. So far I haven't seen it. Would an upgrade to Snow Leopard fix it?

  • Why don't my bluetooth keys repeat when I hold them down?

Although I have the System Preference for keyboards set for "Fast" repeating, my letter keys don't seem to repeat in any text program. Is there something I can do to fix that?
The backspace key and spacebar repeat just fine. Strange.

    sarahgarzon,
log in as your administrative user and open Terminal. Run the following commands inside of the Terminal window:
defaults write -g ApplePressAndHoldEnabled -bool false
    exit
After running these commands, quit Terminal and log out. When you log back in again (as any user), the key repeat will be active.

  • Key repeat issues when renaming files

I am having trouble with the cursor arrow key repeating when renaming files. When I press and hold the left or right arrows while renaming in Cover Flow view, it starts scrolling through the files instead of moving the cursor through the filename.
This also seems to happen when renaming files on an attached USB device. Instead of moving the cursor it moves the file selection bar after a few cursor repeat actions.
Has anyone else encountered this issue? Is there a fix?

This has been bugging me too. I noticed it right back when Leopard was still 10.5.0 and thought they would have at least acknowledged it by now. In coverflow view, the files scroll across the covers, in list mode the folder tree collapses if you hold the left arrow key. And another annoying thing Leopard does is that when you're renaming, if any file in that folder changes, it abandons the rename instead of continuing, making your keystrokes move up and down the list of files without warning.

  • Will Not Burn DVD+R DL - Keys Repeat When Pressed

Hello, I am trying to burn a disk image onto Verbatim DVD+R DL media using Disk Utility. I have also tried using Toast Titanium 9 but with similar results. I am using the on board Matshita UJ-857E optical drive. Basically, the Disk Utility moves through each of the processes without ever writing anything to the disc. Then the application freezes upon reaching the "Finishing burn" stage. I left it running overnight to no avail. Additionally, the trackpad stops working when the burn starts, the keys repeat 6 or more times (llllllliiiiiiikkkkkkkeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee ttttttthhhhhhhiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiisssssss), and I cannot shut OS X down (it freezes at a blue screen with a spinning disc). Burning CD-Rs work as expected. Here is the Disk Utility log:

    2008-10-02 15:31:10 -0400: Image name: “-------------”

    2008-10-02 15:40:14 -0400: Finishing burn
Again, it hangs at the last stage. Any ideas?

I've run into the exact same problem shaun including, oddly enough, the keyboard problem during the "finishing burn" stage and the incredibly long shut down (although it does eventually shut down).
No solutions for you, but if misery loves company you have some. And I agree, you ought to be able to burn the occasional disc with the built in drive without having to buy an external burner.

  • Keyboard's key repeat feature doesn't work in Audition

For Audition CS6, I've reassigned zoom-in and -out to the keys "R" and "T" (like on Pro Tools).  It does zoom.  However, when holding down a key to zoom in or out (R or T), the key repeat function doesn't work.  I don't think the key repeat function works at al within Audition CS6.  Is this so?
My keyboard's keys DO repeat in all other programs though.  I like to zoom in quickly to either the playhead or to the IN or OUT of a selection.  Unfortunately, the end result is a mere one-zoom instance per one key click (down then up)  instead of what our PC/Mac's keyboard's key repeat function could do  (when using Pro Tools): allowing you to zoom in or out quickly by utilizing the computer system's keyboard key repeat function. As it is, I'm much slower having to "tap-tap-tap-tap-tap..." to zoom in and out.  Intolerable!
The mouse scroll wheel DOES zoom in/out smoothly though, oddly enough.

I just checked for the option to "zoom in on the play head," but couldn't
find anything.  I'm on the latest version of CS6 (5.0.2 build 7).  I see
"Synchronize selection, zoom level, and playhead *across files *in the
    Waveform Editor."
I just tried checking and unchecking that, trying it on a single piece of
audio in the Waveform view.  But the scroll wheel zoom feature seems to
have a mind of its own.  I want to always be able to zoom directly to the
playhead*.  *That is, say I zoom out quickly via my scroll wheel.  Great.
That works fast and well.  I go to zoom back in to where the playhead is
moving (playing).  And say, then, my cursor a couple of inches before it in
the full zoomed-out view.  Mouse cursor is in the general area of the
playhead zoomed fully out as I am, but when I scroll back in, it zooms in
not to where the playhead is, but waaaay out in front.

  • Keys Repeating Too Fast

Can someone help me figure out how to stop the keys from repeating so fast on my Macbook Pro?
Recently I tried to change the key repeat rate in the keyboard preferences, but the keys began repeating so fast that a single tap produced 4 or more letters. I went back into the preferences to move the sliders back to their default positions, but moving them produced no change, and the keys keep repeating way too fast. Whenever I return to the keyboard preference pane, both of the sliders – "key repeat rate" and "delay until repeat" - are pushed to the far left and do not appear to function when moved.
Other user accounts are not affected by the key repeat problem if I log into them before logging into the affected account. Plus, I can recreate the problem in a new account simply by moving the key repeat slider in the keyboard preferences.
Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.
    Macbook Pro 17"   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

I found a fix for the problem by using Tinker Tool to show my hidden files. I then changed the settings in my keyboard preference pane, and ran a search for recently modified items. The search showed a hidden preference file, which I moved to a different folder in case I needed it later.
I then restarted the MacBook Pro and the preference file was replaced with the default settings. The keys now type at a normal rate, but I can still recreate the problem by simply adjusting the key repeat slider, so I just won't touch it until I find a permanent fix.
I then trashed the preference file that I moved since the keys typed correctly.
By the way, I tested this on a new user account before I trashed any essential files in my main user account.
