E8350 5GHZ Band and Macbook Pro
I saw another thread like this but really this should be brought to Linksys attention. The 5GHZ band is extremely slow with my Macbook Pro Retina (2012). It takes around 30 seconds to load any webpage if it loads at all. No other device has a problem and my macbook works with every other router at 5GHZ. The 2.4GHZ works fine. The strange thing is, the problem even happens when going straight to the router to make changes in the menu, not even outside the local network. It will take 30+ seconds to load any page in the router settings (sometimes it doesn't load at all). Oddly enough, it will load the login page instantly, anything other than that takes forever. The wifi networks aren't overlapping channels with each other, or my neighbors either. Any help would be appreciated.

I use Airport Extreme with dual band but my Macbook pro doesn't connect with 5 Ghz band even if I'm near base Airport. Only one or two times I had a 5 Ghz connection with my mac. How could I set base Airport or Mac to connect always with 5 Ghz. Thank you
You might want to assign a separate name to the 5 GHz network so you can "point" your Mac directly at that band to connect.
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the AirPort Extreme icon and then click Edit in the box that appears
Click the Wireless tab at the top of the window
Click the Wireless Options button at the bottom of the window
Enter a check mark next to 5 GHz Network Name and "(5 GHz)" will be added to the name of the 5 GHz network signal so that you can identify which network you want your Mac to connect to
Click Save, then click Update
If your Mac still has trouble connecting to 5 GHz when it is close to the AirPort Extreme, the wireless card in the Mac may be acting up. Normally, you would not need to point the Mac to the 5 GHz signal if it is close to the router as it should connect automatically when in close proximity to the AirPort Extreme. -
I want to install Windows 7 on my band new Macbook Pro 13 inch and use Parallel Desktop 6 torun it alongside my Mac OS. Do I need to buy a specific Mac version of Windows 7 or do I install a standard Windows 7 OS on the Mac using boot camp.
As vazandrew said, Boot Camp will work with any standard copy of Win 7.
The only exception would be if you want to run it in a virtual environment, such as with Parallels or WMware.
I personally recommend Boot Camp, however, since it only uses the resources for one OS at a time. -

Hello
Does anyone know
"the boot up time of MacBook Pro 13" 2.5GHz i5 vs MacBook Pro 13" with Retina display with 2.4GHz i5?"
ThanksA bit simplifying :
there are two parts in boot process - one-before spinning thing, other - spinning thing to desktop.
First part is hardware inits, you can not speed it up. It is for sure longer for your MBP than for her - its normal, more hardware and it is more sophisticated so longer init.
Second part depends on HD (SSD) speed.
Say so - I have M4 SSD and second part is 1 to 2 spins until login window. Should be more or less same for you.
If it is not so - probably something is not good with filesystem and some config files, most probably due to cloning instead of install. Reboot from recovery, repair drive (first - drive as a whole, second - boot partition), then reboot permissions. reboot two times as normal. see what'll happen with timing. -
Connection failures between iMac and Macbook Pro
I'm experiencing frequent connection failures over my wi-fi network between my iMac and Macbook Pro on an otherwise strong, stable network. I can connect both of my computers to the Airport Time Capsule that I use as my wireless router without a problem, but for some reason I get connection failures between the computers say, 50% of the time. Sometimes it works fine, others it just hangs before giving me an error message. Any suggestions?

Some checks:
Use Airport Utility on one of the machines
- Click on the Time Capsule ( enter password if prompted )
- Click on the Edit button
Under Airport Utility -> Wireless -> Wireless Options
Are the Time Capsule Wireless options set correctly?
- Country -> you know this, change if it is not
- 2.4GHz and 5GHz Channel set to Automatic
- Click on Cancel button to return to the Airport Utility graphic diagram.
- Click on the Time Capsule
- Click on your machines listed beside wireless clients
Are the machines reporting an excellent quality at different distances from the Time Machine? -
AEBS, TimeMachine and Macbook Pro
Ok guys, this is hard to describe but I will give it my best. Please bear with me.
Since about April, my airport and macbook pro (08 model) simply wouldnt work properly.
Took the airport to the apple service centre, and he simply replaced the airport for me
All problems solved, until tonight. The exact problem came back.
All firmware/software is up to date.
Its like this. Everything will work great for ages and then my timemachine airdisk will simply dissappear with resulting errors - cannot find disk etc. <-Annoying.
The mac connects to the airport extreme over wireless N only (5ghz) on startup, SOMETIMES. Other times the AEBS will simply not appear in the wireless network list. If I connect to my wireless modem (billion 7401vgp), the airport is suddenly in the list inside Airport Utility. I can open the advanced config etc and change settings. The aebs is not frozen. The light is green on the base itself and in airport utility.
Sometime later, it will come back to the wireless network list, and all is good, except for the airdisk.
Other times, all will work fine the moment i get home, and then randomly and suddenly, the AEBS will lose the net, and a few moments later, will disconnect and the mac will fall back and connect to the wireless modem, which is good for the net, but i bought an AEBS for the wireless N speeds (around 270-290mbit most of the time)
Obviously the first base station was not the problem. I have tried anything and everything but cannot force faults to replicate. iStumbler shows this is the only 5gig network in the area, and only sometimes can see 2-3 other 2.4gig networks.
Any and all help greatly appreciated.
/rantSee page 33 of the Motorola SURFboard SB4220 User Guide for multiple users setup with this modem. By default, the device connected to either the USB or Ethernet port will get it's IP address from the modem's DHCP server. In turn, when you connect the AEBSn to the modem's Ethernet port, it would get one of these addresses; however, the AEBSn providing NAT & DHCP services itself, will create another subnet of IP address to devices connected to it.
To allow all devices to be on the same subnet, just connect the PC, via Ethernet or wirelessly, to the AEBSn instead of it's USB connection to the modem. -
Photostream not working on iPhone 4, but works on iPad and macbook pro
Hi there,
I've read in the community there have been similiar problems with photostream, and been going trough various answers. None have been helpful unfortunately.
I have photostream working on my iPad 2 (via 3G) and Macbook Pro. But can't get it to work on my iPhone 4 (also on 3G).
Anyone who have had the same problem who can help me here?
Regards, e.
ps. Read that photostream works only on WI-Fi... but how come it works on my iPad via 3G in that case? And I connect my macbook online via internet tethering trough my iPhone.Hello Matt,
It sounds like you are not able to access iTunes from your iPhone 4 using Home Sharing, but you can from your iPad. I found an article with steps that I think would help with this issue.
I recommend reviewing the full article below, but I think steps 4-7 are specifically useful for what you described:

Everything is updated!! iPhone, iPad, iTunes and MacBook Pro... All I am trying to do is drag content from my iTunes Library to the devices. iTunes gets stuck EVERY single time! What usually triggers the Non-Sense is when I am adding a 2nd file!
Why does iTunes SUCK??
1) Many items greyed out in the menu bar, for well over 2 years, maybe more!
2) I Can't drag more than one piece of content from your iTunes library to any device (iPhone, iPad)
If you do it gets stuck for HOURS and HOURS in "Preparing To Update" and the little activity circle never completes, ever!!
I used to be able to drag over 1000 tunes, movies, etc. go have breakfast come back and it would all be on my device!!
Can't do it anymore, one song at a time, maybe an album at a time, or one movie, and that is it!!
If you do a 2nd item the other items stop loading and never continue!!
This is so BAD, I don't understand how they don't have this fixed yet!!
Please tell me I am not the only one!!
...and If I am tell me how to fix it!
Very appreciated,

As I said before both app's send signals but none are received by Mainstage and both the ipad 3 (6.1) and macbook pro (10.7.5) see each other via WIFI on the network set up, which I think I did right. I have tried MIDI Disigner and Mainstage shows MIDI activiti, what can I be doing wrong?
Thanx in advance.I agree anti-relay can be using UBE feature. However, there is serious problem in reject the spam mail. My nms is using UBE feature to stop spam mail. According to the work flow of the UBE, the mail is received by nms completely and UBE is going to invesgate the mail address. Although UBE can stop the spam mail, the spam mail have a trouble in returning the mail to the sender. The reason is the sender address is usually not existed in the world. That will cause a lot of mail waiting in the mail queue.
In my experience, do not use UBE for anti-relay. -
IMac and Macbook Pro no longer connecting to the Wifi?
Hi there,
I've been in London this weekend, only to return home to find issues connecting to my wifi. Weirdly, it's only the iMac and Macbook Pro having trouble, everything else is connecting fine e.g iPad, Phone, Android Tablet etc.
I'm getting disconnected around every 20 seconds and cannot figure it out! It's so frustrating as I'm wondering if there's been an update released for OS X that it has downloaded recently? Especially seeing that when I run windows from bootcamp on my iMac, it doesn't disconnect. And I also don't believe it's an issue with the hub.
Has anyone got any suggestions? I've tried removing the network and re-adding, help for about an hour but still not much use.
Thanks, MattWi-FI connection drops

If my iphone, ipad, MAC and macbook pro are all linked, and then I upgrade only my ipone to IOS 7.0, does that have an effect on the linking to my other MAC products. It seems my calendar has lost a lot of information since the upgrade.
If you purchased Lion for your iMac, just log into the Mac App Store from your MacBook using the Apple ID under which you purchased Lion and go to the Purchases page. You will be able to download and install Lion there.
searching the internet i found a link to upgrtade to 10.7
The only place you get get Lion is from the Mac App Store. If you found some other site, that was an illegal copy and almost certainly tied to someone else's Apple ID and hence unusable by you. If the link was just to the Mac App Store, see above.
As to the problem with synchronization to iCloud, that's not a 10.6 question, so I'd suggest you take up that specific issue in either the Lion or iCloud forums, providing full details, and someone there can probably help you sort things out.

IPhone 5s and Macbook Pro via Bluetooth??
For some reason I cannot connect my iPhone 5s with my new Macbook Pro w/ Retina Display. On both my iPhone and Macbook Pro bluetooth menus they come up but when I am on my iPhone it keeps saying, "Macbook is not supported." Why is this????
Other than Internet tethering, BT file transfer is not supported.

My IPOD and Macbook Pro both will not connect to the Itunes store through Itunes says no internet connection, but I can connect through safari and I have a internet connection
As I mentioned above, I am not very tech savvy so I have no idea why a wireless protocol would be showing up there, I'm just listing everything I see in hopes that someone might know something I can try. This is why I am asking for help here - I'm not sure what has happened that has made me unable to connect, especially since it seemingly occured while nobody was using the computer.
I guess I should clarify that I'm not a total hillbilly- normally my firewall is set to 'on', but I set it to 'off' to try and troubleshoot the issues here as I was told that sometimes it can interfere with the computer's ability to connect to the internet. If this is not the case and firewall does not affect anything, I will turn it back on while I try to fix this.
I have tried the method you mentioned above a few times - I actually contacted my ISP earlier this week and they recommended resetting the router like that. They didn't mention any known network issues. -
Can I connect my iPad and MacBook Pro both via an iPhone hotspot?
First, a little background. I have an aging MacBook Pro (~5 years old), and my netbook was smashed on the way to work last night. My cell phone (not an iPhone) crapped out a few weeks ago.
So my first priority is to replace my netbook with an iPad. When I can afford it, I also want to upgrade to a new MacBook Pro. I've also been thinking of getting an iPhone.
One thing that always confuses me is Internet connections. I currently connect my MacBook Pro to the Internet via Verizon and use T-Mobile for my cell phone.
I was surprised when an Apple salesman told me the iPhone has a "hotspot" that I can use to connect both an iPad and MacBook Pro to the Internet. But an Apple salesman at another store told me the hotspot will connect the iPad.
Can anyone offer some details? I've been browsing some of the other threads, but I still don't really understand what a hotspot is. Am I correct in understanding that as long as I have an iPhone with me, I can use it to connect my iPad to the Internet? Can I similarly use it to connect a MacBook Pro (either my 4-year-old+ model or a new model)?
What kind of connection speed does a hotspot offer? I do a lot of websurfing and web design. Would a hotspot connection be about as fast as my current connection via Verizon?
Also, is the hotspot feature available with either AT&T or Verizon?
Thanks.Your hotspot will be billed by AT&T or Verizon based on your iPhone's model. Only the iPhone 4 from Verizon would allow a Verizon hotspot. Others have posted information revealing that the Verizon 3G connection is somewhat slower than the AT&T service. Also, the Verizon service suspends the use of hotspot when you take a phone call. The AT&T service continues during calling.
Selecting the hotspot feature under General> Settings> Personal Hotspot will change your data plan from your previous 250MB, 2GB, or unlimited amount to a new 4GB plan that includes tethering. AT&T charges me $45 instead of my Unlimited, but No Tethering Allowed, $30.
You can connect three devices that have WiFi. Verizon hotspots can connect five. Your speed should be about the same as the iPhone 4 browsing speed on 3G. If your phone is on WiFi, the devices need to connect separately to that WiFi, not to your hotspot. I would love to see a software update that allows my WiFi connection to be shared, so I don't have to manually connect the iPods that my boys use one at a time.
