xp hangs forever at setup windows (xp install)
i am right by saying bios update if so great the task of making it work is fanily over... yes the disks are fine and also using 250GB ide hard drive but some people have said SATA is a problem wtich i have got but not using becuase people say is bad and cant install with xp need drivers
what i want to no is how to flash bios and how to install xp on a sata hard drive (i have a flopy drive) or is this not the problem?
thanks this will stop loads of steress :D and thanks to the great board you have sold me truly amazing :D

You can still use a a floppy disk to boot and flash the BIOS as long as you don't read directly from the floppy disk during the flash process.
In DOS there is something called ramdrive, it uses a small portion of your memory to create a virtual drive.
You can copy the BIOS files from the disk to the virtual ram drive.
Then run the bios flash program from the ramdrive and this removes the floppy disk flash risk as it will not be used during the flash procedure.
Download this to create the RAMDRIVE boot disk.
http://www.nerdlabs.org/bootdisks/diskimages/wboot98se.exe
Run the file and it will create a floppy boot disk.
Download the MSI BIOS (version 1.8) and extract the files to a folder.
Copy the 2 files (A7345IMS.180 & Afud408.exe) to another disk.
Boot from the floppy RAMDRIVE boot disk.
- Start computer without CD-ROM support
- Once it has finished loading take out the disk.
- Insert the 2nd disk with the 2 files (A7345IMS.180 & Afud408.exe).
# Type (notice the space bars)
copy a:\*.* c:
# Press enter
# Type
c:
# Press enter
# Type
afud408 A7345IMS.180
# Press enter
It should flash the BIOS.
- Once done turn the PC off.
- Remove the PSU mains cable for the back
- Press the front case switch power button (should help to discharge any remaining power)
- And clear the CMOS, press and hold down the CMOS clear switch for at least 30 seconds.
And your done.
Make sure you run memtest for a while before the BIOS flash. (if you have never run memtest, go for 3 hours)
- This will create a memtest boot disk.
http://www.memtest.org/download/2.01/memtest86+-2.01.floppy.zip
- Extract the files to a folder and run the install file. (requires another floppy disk)
Once the disk has been created it cannot be read in windows, so do not try to read it as you will get a message saying "disk not formatted..."

My first time here, and i've read through a large portion of the already available posts, but nothing so far have i found to solve my problem.
I recently bought the MSI NEO-FIS2R board along with an Athlon64 3200+. I also purchased 1gig (2x512) Kingston HyperX PC3200, ECC Registered. I cant for the life of me, get it to boot with both DIMMs installed, either work, but not both.
I've toyed with timeing and bus ect per the posts on this board, but nothing so far. Anyone with some specific advice?
Thanks in advance for the help =)

    hi
i havent got an msi motherboard but an asus.
I recently bought 2x 512 400 ddr from Corsair and the system only loads up with one stick and not the other. Tied to do lot of combination by putting in slot 2 and 3 etc put with no further sucess.
In fact some motherboard like mine do not recommend these types or ram memory so i had to get a refund.
is this ram is supported by msi motherboard?
    see you

  • Audigy and NEO

I bought the NEO K8T, 3200 CPU, ATi 9800XT, and tried to use my audigy MP3+ card from my other computer. I updated the bios to 1.13. When I install the card into the computer, the computer freezes up or boots with sound then no sound and windows says I don't have a sound card installed. The audigy drivers will not install cause windows does not see my sound card!!
    Now what!

  • Adobe Captivate 5.5 and Neo Speech: issue to use Paul voice

    Hello,
I have installed succesfully Adobe Captivate 5.5 and then Neo speech Add-on. But unfortunately, when using Speech management function, I can't find Paul and Kate voice. These voices are not proposed in the voice list while the installation has suceeded.
A Kate and Paul directories have been install under Adobe Captivate 5.5 but I don't know why these voices seems to be not installed.
My PC uses Windows XP, default language = french. Adobe Captivate has been installed in English.
    Thanks for your support,
    Odile

    Hi,
First I have installed Adobe Captivate 5.5.
Then I have installed Neo spech.
I have restarted my PC, then launch Captivate: Paul and Kate voices are not present in Speech Manager. And I have no special error message, only voices missing.
After that I have installed Loquendo speechs.
Launch again Captivate and see that Loquendo voices are pesent in Speech Manager.
Now I will show you Neo Speech install report, installation done after an Captivate application stop:
The installation has succeeded in the good directory.
When installing Loquendo the report is not really the same, it seems that some additional execution are done:
Following other discussions on the forum, I have looked at my Windows Control Panel Voice and see that 3 voices are proposed. I assume that these are Windows voice. I didn't find Stefan, Simon, Kate or Paul voices and I'm not ablle to add or configure something.
If someone has an idea of the issue

  • Liveupdate2 crashes in WinXp pro and Neo-fis2r

When I install liveMonitor with liveupdate 2 it will crash after the reboot, stating that the hardware monitor cannot be initialized and that there are errors. After I click these error messages away it just reboots.
I tried admin account, still same error message, but no reboot! And when I deinstall Liveupdate 2 again, the corecenter won't work anymore either!
NOTE: at this point all other drivers are already installed (ie. Soundblaster etc.), including MSI corecenter and the infoviewer.
I have a brand new PIV 2.8 ghz, msi Neo-fis2r, SB Audigy 2, 120 Gig HDD, Toshiba DVD SD-1502, 512 ddr ram.
Is anyone familiar with WIN XP or this problem? Could use it... THNX!!!

Well, I have the problems like yours.  After long time researching.  I find out that both programs (corecenter and life update) have services that need to be started before loading the corecenter program and life monitor.
So what i did was just remove it to be auto load at windows startup.  but instate, wait till all the windows fully loaded then only load those program.
    Good luck.

  • Sapphire Theatrix 550 Pro and Neo 2 Platinum problem

Anyone manged to install and get a Sapphire Theatrix 550 (ATi Theater 550) TV Capture card to work on a MSI NEO 2 Platinum motherboard? I have two computers using the NEO 2 and the Theatrix does not work on either. The "ATI Unified AVStream" device has a conflict with the "PCI Standard PCI-to-PCI bridge". The resources section is greyed out on the "PCI Standard PCI-toPCI bridge" device. I have installed and tried both Windows Media Center and Windows XP
I have no idea how to correct this.    Anyone have any ideas or better still solutions?
    Thanks
    Dal

    Richard
I have returned the original motherboard as It would only post to the "Platinum logo"  4 time out of 10 starts! I have now installed the Theatrix card into my other machine which also supports a MSI Neo2 Platinum MB.
Unfortunately I can not try all the PCI slots on this machine as it is water cooled and the GFX and chipset waterblocks prevent access to slots 1 and 2
I did try slot 3 and when I attempt to install the drivers the computer resest it's self consistantly towards the end of the installation! I have tried running the ATI Catalyst Driver setup program and installing manually and the machine resets it's self at the end without warning!
The card is now in slot 4 and the drivers installed. However I am getting "This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)" like before.

  • Pny verto 6800 and neo platinum =( please help

    Hi,
      I have the following:
    k8n neo plat
    a64 3200+ newcastle
    pny verto geforce 6800 128 mb w/ 66.93 drivers
    512 mb pqi turbo memory

    maxtor 60 gb hd
    microadvantage 5232 cdrw
    microadvantage 8x dvdrw
    floppy
I just got the 6800 and put it in today.  Everything set up fine and the first game I ran was NBA LIVE 2005 which had jagged edges so I turned on the AA/AF to 4x and 16x, that solved the jagged problem but the team logos now appear blurry.  The second game I tried was DOOM 3 and boy oh boy was it a disappointment, it was extremely laggy even on 1024 setting!!  The third game was NFSU 2 which was smooth but I'm not quite sure that the sky and concrete are supposed to be blocky squares, any ideas?  I am having lots of trouble.
I tried AGP fast writes off and auto in the bios, no difference.
Any solutions or suggestions?  Thanks in advance.

  • MSI 6600 GPU and Neo 4 ultra problem ----- PLEASE HELP -----

I just got done building a beautiful system with the K8N Neo 4 platinum matched with a MSI 6600 PCIE video card.  Everything went together perfectly.   After many reboots and getting everything set up the way I want, I accidently moved the monitor, and the DVI cable was loose.  I did this during a reboot.
Now the system will not boot up at all past the post screen.  I can not get into BOIS at all.  I tried unplugging, clearing CMOS, and reseating the video card.  However, I am really out of options for what I can do.
Does anyone ave any suggestions, or perhaps has seenthis before?
    Thanks,
    Doug Heerema

Opps nevermind what I said. I misread your second paragraph. As you can't get past the post screen I have to ask if the HDD's are running like it would in a normal boot? If so then you may be set to some other scan frequency than the Monitor can handle. If so then you need to try it as Eddie suggested with a normal CRT so that you can reset to the panels native resoluition and frequency. Some Flat Panel displays don't like anything else. If that works then try to remember the last operation you did before this happened. As whatever that was likely changed the operating frequencies to somethiong the monitor did not liuke. You will need to review that before trying it again.

  • Artifact crash and reboot with 3D Games and Neo-F P965 7235

I´m having a lot of problem with artifacts, crash and reboot in 3D games, it seems to be a graphic problem but reading post i have a solucion with my x1900gt 256 Mb
when i disable de memory mappping all is ok with loose of performance.
How i disable it: Ati Tray Tool Advanced Microadjust---Compatibility Tweaks---Disable DMA Access
My question is if that´s a BIOS, graphic or mem issue and other possible solution without loose of performance.
    Thank you very much

    My system is:
    M.B. Neo-F P965 BIOS 1.0A Award (7235)
PSU Corsair HX520 W crossfire certified
    Samsung DDRII 533 Mhz 2 Gb 4,4,4,11 1,8v (BIOS 1.0A can´t put at 1,8 only 1,85) 2 sides and 2 x 1 Gb

I have solve the problem with loose of performance disabling DMA Access from my graphic card, why?
It may be a incompatibility between my X1900GT and my memory RAM or PCI-E 16x and X1900GT, i think so because when starting my system somes character looks in blue and magenta but when windows start no problem. May Be a synchronism problem of FSB (266 Mhz actual)

  • GF6800 and Neo Platinum

    hello, my first post.
    my system setup
Msi Neo Platinum bios 1.5B6 (modded)
    Athlon 64 2800 @ 2616mhz, 308@8,5, 1.65V
    2x 512mB Apacer PC3200 cl2,5 @ 203mhz
    Inno3d GeForce 6800NU (working 16/6)
    Enermax 300W 22A on 12V, 30A on 5V, 28A on 3.3V
(i just ordered more powerful PSU)
anyway my problem is that my geforce isn't stable in 3dmark. it freezes after some hours of constant 3dmark loop.
also in CSS and HL2 there are random skippings (3-5sec)
Doom 3 is fine, Far cry and other games seem to work fine. (haven't tried to play those too much)
tried to turn of sideband, fastwrites, different nvidia drivers.....
    but still the same.
do you think better PSU will help?
i don't think my card overheats, because it freezes after 3-4 hours, the temperature is fine.

A lot of problems with Antec PSU's have been reported with this MB.   Check the post at the bottom of this page:

  • CoreCell and NEO PT880 LSR problems

Hi all, i'm having problems with my new MSI PT880 NEO LSR and corecenter software.
Everything runs fine with my mobo, my system spec are at my signature, i have a very good PSU and all the rest too.
The problem is when i try to use the software CORECENTER to use the corecell chip.
Whenever i try to use the software, i get 50% of used proc time and the software doesn't start.
I try to close it through task manager and it never closes, the only thing that makes me get rid of it is to reset the machine.
Sometimes (really few ones), i run it and it simply doesn't appear to run, but it is there in the Taks Manager and can be closed, but the major part it gets stuck in 50% of proc use.
I have a mobo that should control fans, FSB and voltage without beeing able to use it.... does anyone knows how to get rid of it?
I use a version of WIN XP with SP2 RC2 integrated, everything else runs fine in my system.
BTW anything related to AUTO Overclock in BIOS doesn't work too.
If I set manually a CLOCK os 220 FSB the system boots fine and is stable, if I choose to get a Auto OC of 7% it hangs before or right after entering windows.
P.S: BIOS Already updated to 1.5 and all voltages are fine, MEMO already in 2.7V
Please I need to see if I need to Return this mobo or not, and really fast.
I am pleased for any answer.

I have thought of that before and I have an older version of win XP without SP2 integrated, but not a single other program refused to run or give instabilities problems with me on this windows, and I refuse to reinstall windows AGAIN.
Since i have reinstalled it 8 times just this last week , because i thought it was a windows problem.
I have an old 8 GB HD that i'm willing to format and give a try to install the normal windows XP (first version) in it, so i can see if CoreCenter will run in it.
I think it is not a problem like that, but who knows..... I might give it a try.
Other programs like MotherBoard Monitor works, but i really hate MBM interface and liked to at least see CoreCenter interface :(
Please any other thoughts might help.

  • ClamXav, Mac Janitor and Neo Office

I've been doing research for freeware programs to support my Mac. After running across an array of applications I narrowed down to a few that peaked my interest. If you are running or have ran these programs before, please share your experience, their benefit, sustainability and overall effectiveness. Thanks

ClamXAV is an excellent anti-virus program that works well and its virus database is regularly updated. NeoOffice is a nice substitute for Office 2004 X. It is a universal binary and provides about 90% compatibility with Office's applications. It is a little slow because it is Java based, although the developers are working on a native code version. The program is under current development and support.
Mac Janitor is an older program that has not been regularly updated and is not very compatible with Tiger and Leopard. There are better alternatives such as Onyx, Leopard Cache Cleaner, TinkerTool System, CockTail, and a few dozen others. Although both are shareware TinkerTool System and Leopard Cache Cleaner have always been reliable performers. You will find positive reports also for CockTail and Onyx.
Kappy's Personal Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
For disk repairs use Disk Utility. For situations DU cannot handle the best third-party utilities are: Disk Warrior; DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.0 is now Intel Mac compatible. TechTool Pro provides additional repair options including file repair and recovery, system diagnostics, and disk defragmentation. TechTool Pro 4.6.1 is Leopard compatible; Drive Genius is similar to TechTool Pro in terms of the various repair services provided. The current version, 1.5.1, is Intel Mac compatible.
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.
OS X automatically defrags files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems.
I would also recommend downloading the shareware utility TinkerTool System that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old logfiles and archives, clearing caches, etc.
For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack. If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the commandline. Note that presently AppleJack is not compatible with Leopard.
When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand. I also recommend booting into safe mode before doing system software updates.
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
    1. Retrospect Desktop (Commercial - not yet universal binary)
    2. Synchronize! Pro X (Commercial)
    3. Synk (Backup, Standard, or Pro)
    4. Deja Vu (Shareware)
    5. PsynchX 2.1.1 and RsyncX 2.1 (Freeware)
    6. Carbon Copy Cloner (Freeware - 3.0 is a Universal Binary)
    7. SuperDuper! (Commercial - not yet Leopard compatible)
    8. Data Backup (Commercial)
The following utilities can also be used for backup, but cannot create bootable clones:
    1. Backup (requires a .Mac account with Apple both to get the software and to use it.)
    2. Toast
    3. Impression
    4. arRSync
Apple's Backup is a full backup tool capable of also backing up across multiple media such as CD/DVD. However, it cannot create bootable backups. It is primarily an "archiving" utility as are the other two.
Impression and Toast are disk image based backups, only. Particularly useful if you need to backup to CD/DVD across multiple media.

  • WD Raptor and NEO PLATINUM

currently using  bios 1.52 beta, tried to oc to 240fsb 1:1 bios seems to be stable but it fails when trying to load windows, asking me to press "R" to repair windows,
set back to 230FSB 1:1 all seems to be normal again. I tried SATA 1, and i tried SATA 3 same results. I tried disable SATA 1 and 2  when i'm using my raptor on SATA 3. I heard high FSB corrupt Raptor hard disk , is this true? any other way to fix this?

SATA 3 is usually the fix for overclocking problems with a SATA drive.
I had a problem where it said "Error loading operating system" with my Raptor, and I fixed it by changing the Access Mode to Large in the BIOS.  Note:  Don't do this unless you are reformatting and starting from scratch.
You may not be able to overclock that much, at least not with that BIOS version.  Sorry I can't be of more help.

  • P6N SLI Diamond (nforce 680i SLI) and Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale

From what I gathered, P6N Diamond doesn't officially support the C2D E8400 cpu, but I suspect that it should work with the newest bios revision (1.3).
Can anyone confirm this for me?  I need someone with a P6N Diamond and E8400 to confirm that this ineed works!
Note that it does not have to have ANY overclocking capability, only to run stable at stock settings.

Quote from: andrihb on 13-February-09, 12:19:37
MSI Support has just replied and they gave me a beta bios (1.41) that supposedly lets me use 45nm chips with P6N Diamond.
I still wouldn't mind if someone that has used E8xxx with this mb would comment about their experience.
Just called MSI, they said board doesn't support E8400 and there is no BETA BIOS.  What gives?
