What is the best accuracy one can get from the E90 GPS in terms of position in meters ? Does it depend on the GPS software, or what ?

Improve your GPS receiver's view of the sky and your occurrence of multipath interference will decrease; loss of contact with just one satellite can cause indicated position to jump 20metre in addition to expected ±10metre error.
Ionospheric effects ± 5 metre
Ephemeris errors ± 2.5 metre
Satellite clock errors ± 2 metre
Multipath distortion ± 1 metre
Tropospheric effects ± 0.5 metre
Numerical errors ± 1 metre or less
On a negative note as solar flare activity increases up to 2011/12 you can expect degradation of GPS reception. At the last peak there were very GPS receivers compared with the expected situation next time around!

E90 GPs works slow

I have a Nokia E90
I bought a liscence for BENELUX to get voicenavigation.
Since the up/daown/left/right button is working terribly slow. The sound stutters.
It is very annoying how terrible the sound is and how slowly all the buttons/options work. It takes around 10-15 minutes to start navigation although the fix on the satelite is there within 1 minute. Whan it is calculating a new route, it also takes minutes. My phone software is up to date.
Is the solution buying route 66?

The E90 GPS module is C.R.A.P.. Compared to SirfIII equipped GPS units, it is horrible.
It can take up to 20 minutes and more for the first satellite fix, meaning that you need to leave your E90 OUTSIDE (free line of view to all directions, no skyscrapers, trees, etc.) for 20 minutes or so to get the first position and satellite data. If you're lucky, it works a little bit faster. The E90 needs a strong satellite signal, meaning that you need to be outside or VERY close to a window to get a GPS signal. To explain to you how bad the GPS on the E90 is: I get a GPS signal only directly next to the Windows, receiving 5 satellites. My other business phone, a T-Mobile Ameo (HTC Advantage), receives almost ONE METER away from the windows 7 satellites, close to the Windows 9 satellites. I really gave it up using the E90 GPS but sometimes it comes in handy when I need to send my position to someone in a foreign city for example. Otherwise, forget about it. I also heard that Route 66 seems to provide better navigation results than Nokia's Map program (you need the PC program Maploader for uploading maps to your phone).

E90 GPS problem

Hello, I have an E90 with fw 210.34.75, 12/4 2008. So its pretty new. I have never been able to use the GPS. When I start it the signal dots are yellow and blinking. When I go to options-maps-satelite info I can se 1-4 black frames with satellite numbers. But I can't get a lock.
I have been outside and waited for 1 hour. Still no lock.
So I installed google maps but with the same result. No lock.
Any ideas?

Hi, I too had this same problem, with a slight difference. I did get a satellite fix briefly, then no matter what I tried just could not get it to work.
After a lot of searches on sites like this this is what I tried and fingers crossed it seems to work. First of all unlike me do a backup. Fortunately for me I did one 2 days ago so didnt loose much.
Next read about the new firmware download so looked but could only find the 7.24 version, which was already up to date on my E90. Despite this as I was getting desparate I downloaded it anyway, which sends the phone back to factory settings.
Then I did a backup from COMPUTER to phone, which restored my settings, contacts, messages, and so on. (Phew was I happy when it all came back) Hence the advice to backup BEFORE you update.
Next I downloaded the maps from the Nokia site, and installed, then tried and hey presto it worked.
Just one thing I am not sure of, I did see somewhere when I was trying the sat nav it said something about a 3 day trial, oops, will have to see what that means.
Just one other thing, for some thing the only thing that didnt re-install was the calender events, but as I had not had the Phone for that long there was not too many events on the calender, so not too worried about that, also for some odd reason, I did have the Digital Clock installed from the business site, and that also didnt re-install. But again as it was saved on my computer I managed to get that back too.
Oh couple of other things, When I start the maps, it always tries to find any bluetooth signals in the area, I just cancell that, but on the plus side I have just started the maps again, I have 4 to 5 satellite`s and that is in the house and about 10 foot away from a window.

E90, GPS, WIFI

I got my E90 a couple of days ago,but over the last month or two I have been reading this and another couple of forums to try to get ready for the big day. My question is, can I use my WIFI to start using GPS? I checked with my IP (Fido) and the cost of wireless internet is Can$12 per Mb (pretty high). I remember reading somewhere from someone some steps to take to use WIFI to do this. But I can't find it again. I have looked at Nokia Maploader, but I cant get it to work with Win 2000 or XP.

Not sure what you meant but yes you can use wifi to download the maps to your card. I would recommend this actually.

I want to start using GPS on the E90.
Inicially the maps aren´t installed, is this correct?
I have to download them on the E90 or can I do it from my PC and the install them on the E90?

With the maploader all the maps are free, the only thing you pay for is a licence if you want to use the voice navigation. You will also pay data download charges if you are navigating in an area for which you have not downloaded the relevent maps with maploader as the application on your phone will download them as you move around. I have downloaded the whole of the UK so all the maps I need are on the phone and it does not need to download as I move around.

E90 GPS can't load map

Hi all, my GPS Maps on E90 can not load any map, even when I already install it on the memory card. I use to have my local map installed & loaded but for unknown reason it vanished, I've redownloaded a new map from map loader but it hasn't worked, any advice please help.

Hi, it probably has to do with the overhaul of the Maps application. It is currently being upgraded to Maps 3.0, but this version is not yet fully supported an E90.
Could it be be that the version of Map loader you use is not compatible with the Maps version you ahve on your device?

E90 GPS Software Update

I recently bought E90 from Dubai. However, the I want to use the same phone in Aus for GPS. Can you please tell me how to make GPS work here as the maps of Australai are not there. Do i need to pay for the GPS service because i bought the phone from Dubai.
My Friend bought the same from Aus and he didnt paid anythign to use GPS. Can you please advise me, what should i Do? Can i Simply downlaod Australia Maps from Nokia Website and Make the GPS use of GPS in Australia.

6110 navigator GPS accuracy

My 6110 GPS is not accurate to use with map coordinates it is usually about 10Kms out. The Route 66 works perfectly. Does anyone know a fix?

Umm ... I think you need to get your GPS fixed.
10Km is way off for any GPS, even if you are above the 74th parallel, where magnetic correction is needed for good accuracy (GPS coordinates are pure ECEF -Earth Centric Earth Fix). However, your map cartography for roads should take this into account, and even if this is not the case, 10Km is way off.

E90 GPS Shutdown

i have had the E90 for about a week and today was exploring the GPS system.
while in Maps, if i select 'Plan Route' and then try to use "recent" as the start or finish point, the phone switches down and restarts. this happens in both the front screen mode and the open mode.
I bought and operate the unit in Dubai (UAE) and the E90 software FW is V 07.24.0.3 12-06-1007 RA-6 which Nokia software updater tells me is the most current.
after a terrible time with the 8800, i was just about sick of Nokia and was kinda hoping this would be different - seems not.

In response to all:
I had this happen once as well. It appears to be a memory problem in that as a test, I restarted my phone by taking out the battery then tried the GPS. No more restarts. Could be a memory leak somewhere and then the addition of the GPS makes it crash. Not sure here but my fix seemed to do the trick for me.
As for the outer screen crashing. Sounds like a loose connection. Can you take it to a service center and have them check it? You are still under warranty so they should keep quiet and fix it.

GPS Accuracy?

I've had an iPod Touch since it was released almost a year ago, and have been using the map feature from the day it was released for the touch.
I was always amazed at how well the iPod touch could find its location (given it was within wifi range).
I got an iPhone 3G friday... It's almost comical sometimes. Typically, when I try to locate my current position, it works fine. When I try to do it from my home, however, it says I'm in Philadelphia. I've got nothing against the city, but it is 2500 miles away from where I actually am.
I've also stood in an open field, with no tall buildings nearby, for 30 minutes while the phone was (again) putting me in Philly, time after time.
Most of the time it's reasonably good... I'm fine with a 300 foot accuracy most of the time.
But there's quite a difference between 300 feet and 2500 miles. It was funny to look at the map one minute, and be in my hometown, and three minutes later, I was in Philly. Not even the Space Shuttle flies that fast...
So is this kind of accuracy typical for an iPhone 3G?

No, what you are seeing is not typical. I'd suggest a visit to the Genius Bar and have them take a look.

Have others noticed accuracy of gps in iPhone degrade with ios5.01?

Since I upgraded my iPhone 4 with ios5.01 the gps function in things like map it seems much worse. It used to be very good before upgrade. It says to turn on wifi to improve accuracy but that is of no use when in car. I like others have also seen battery life degrade and I have seen fixes for that but any thoughts on the gps accuracy? You need to transfer your iTunes library from your old computer to your new computer per the instructions included with this link.

If you don't do this per the instructions included with the link, all iTunes content on your iPhone will be erased with the first sync. If you haven't transferred photos from your old computer to your new, any photos on your iPhone that were transferred from your previous computer will be erased when selecting to transfer any photos from your new computer.
Not sure how cancelling a sync with iTunes and importing photos/videos from the Camera Roll with iPhoto could have an effect on your GPS reception and location services.

E90 - How to switch off GPS and other apps etc and...

I have just got my new E90 a few days ago, it is back on the market, so far it is terrific, no issues what so ever. However I thought I had exited the GPS app correctly, but the battery drained quite quickly as I think it was on ( few hours). How does one know what is running, eg is there is an equivalent Task manager like in Windows ? When I reboot and dont start the GPS the phone battery has lasted for days.
By the way - initally my E90 GPS took less than 1 minute to lock in, and thereafter it takes seconds. Quite amazing.

Not sure what you mean, you can only connect to a PC running PC suite and having the usb drivers installed.
More then this, access is triggered in one way PC to E90, not in the reverse !

E90 - Built in GPS receiver availability for other...

As per title, I would like to know if someone has tried to use other navigation apps (like TomTom 6 or Route66 7) in the E90, using only the internal GPS receiver, in lieu of the default Nokia application.
I had a TomTom 5 in my previous 9300 paired with BT GPS SirfIII receiver.
Now, I own a Garmin Nuvi 360 for normal car navigation so I really do not need a professional navigation software in the E90 but only need a handy back up solution.
