E900 Wake on LAN/WAN

I'm fairly new but would like to ask someone for help.
I would like to configure my PC to be able to use wake on LAN/WAN mainly for power issues, so I don't have to have it on all the time to access anything I need. I bought a Linksys Cisco E 900 2 weeks ago. Now I am getting really frustrated since as far as I know I did configure everything needed for it but it does not seem to work nor through WAN or even in LAN.
What I did so far is:
1. In my BIOS I could not find a seperate wake on lan option under power management but I did find a "Power on by pci(e) device which I have enable.
2. I have a built in Realtek Ethernet card on my motherboard. In the setting I:
Shutdown wake on lan - Disable
Wake on magic packet - Enabled
Wake on pattern match - Enabled
Also the option to allow this device to wake up the computer using magic packet is also ticked.
3. I use Windows 7 and have installed and started Simple TCP/IP Services
4. I opened up UDP port 9 in Windows Firewall
5. I have set single port forwarding in the E900 to my reserved IP for both TCP and UDP port on port 9 and just in case port 7.
After all this it is not even working inside my LAN. Also I tried a port scanner and checking for open ports and UDP port 9 doesn't seem to be open. Why is that? Did I configure something wrong in the router?
If someone could help me I would really appreciate it.

Wake on LAN (WoL) is a technology that permits someone to turn ON a computer remotely. The network adapter on the computer listens to network activity and will turn the computer ON once it receives a special data packet called a “Magic Packet” that triggers the boot up. Wake on LAN is also referred to as Remote Wake-up.
For Wake on LAN to work on a computer, it must have the following:
•   a wired connection to an active computer network
•   motherboard
•   network adapter and adapter driver that supports the standard Magic Packet format
•   computer basic input/output system (BIOS) configured for WoL
•   an operating system that supports WoL
•   all routers between the remote location and computer required to WoL must allow IP directed broadcasts and support IPv4

Wake over LAN

Since updating to X.6.8 my MP has problems waking remotely. I'm connected to my router by Ethernet.
I haven't tried all that much to resolve this as I'm not aware there is anything else but the wake over LAN checkbox to enable this service. I have tried unchecking the box and re-checking it, I've also tried restarting my router and setting a different length of time before the MP goes to sleep.
Oddly enough I can wake the MP if I try a little time after it goes to sleep, but if I leave it for several hours it won't wake.
It isn't just one situation/application that won't wake it either, my Apple TV won't, shared devices from the finder on other macs won't and other services like the Apple remote app and eyeTV app from the iPhone won't either.
Any thoughts.

Wake-over-LAN with WRT54GX2

I'd like to wake up my computer over the internet, so I'm trying to use the Wake-on-LAN feature.
I can get it to work when waking from the local network....but I can't over the internet. I've read that I need to forward the right port to 192.168.1.255, but I can't forward to that address.
Is there anything I can do?

Cisco RV180 and Wake-On-Lan (WOL)

I got a RV180 (firmware version: 1.0.1.9) and I am bit surprised by the lack of the configuration flexibility...
I am trying to use Wake-On-Lan (from internet) to wake up a machine in my home (trying to be green and not keep the machine on all the time, just when i need it).
The configuration is quite simple:
Work machine ----> (internet) ----> (WAN) RV180 (LAN) ----> Home Machine (off, linux, wol enabled for UNICAST and Magic Packet - flags "ug")
What i tried so far:
1. All the following RV180 settings together:
   a. Used Port Forwarding from the WAN IP to the Home Machine IP (UDP port 7 and 9)
       - i had no choice but to put the Home Machine's IP address, since i cannot put the BROADCAST address (xxx.xxx.xxx.255) <- forbidden in the configuration page (i wonder if a new version of firmware allows this)
   b. Used Static DHCP to pair the Home Machine's IP to it's MAC address
   c. Used IP/MAC binding for the Home Machine
2. All the following RV180 settings together:
   a. Created a PPTP VPN connection
   b. Connected from the Work machine (obtained a LAN IP, can ping the Home Machine if it is on)
   c. Tried to send a broadcast message to LAN (no success !)
3. I also tried to activate the MULTICAST and BROADCAST WOL flags on the Home Machine but it seems that it receives some messages and the machine wakes up in a very short amount of time after i shut it down (it seems that RV180 sends some messages over LAN by itself).
In all the 3 possibilites above i was not successful in using WOL....
Is there any possibility to use WOL from internet in this configuration ?
Are there new options that will allow WOL from internet in the latest firmware ?
Any advice is appreciated

I was researching about your concern and found several people with the same inquiry where they were told WoL is not a supported feature on these Small Business Routers and that I think is a correct assumption, however I found the below threat where someone with a similar case scenario as yours were able to make it work, it's on a different RV router but I thought I may be interesting for you to check;

Wake on Lan not working properly?

So as far as i'm aware Windows 8 supports wake on lan whilst the device is either in sleep or hibernate (not completely off) and so far it works fine when in sleep mode (no randomly turning on like lots of people have been saying) but nothing happens when in hibernate. Is there any particular reason why this may be?

and i think i've made all of the nessasary changes to BIOs and my router (Belkin) to allow WoL (seeing as it works when sleeping)

WOL (Wake On Lan) works only through a router when it is capable to forward to broadcast LAN-IP-adres.
In my consideration only the good old BEFSR41 is capable to forward to the broadcast adres for example 192.168.1.255 (SM: 255.255.255.0)
Because there is no IP-adres in powerless PC's the "Magic Packet" (which WOL realy is) MUST be send onto your LAN by means of the broadcast-adres.
Other routers are NOT able to sumit a adres like 192.168.1.255 in a subnet of 255.255.255.0 because they are NOT allowed to use any broadcast-adres.(they can get trouble by means of a broadcaststorm!!!)
So do not get rid of that old router you have!!

The "Magic Packet" contains the MAC-adres of your recipient host and wil trigger the powersupply of that PC.
For Internet WOL, try http://www.dslreports.com/wakeup, submit your IP-adres of your home, your MAC-adres of your PC and klick on "Wake up".

Wake on Lan works on my MacBook Pro, not on my iMac...

Hello everyone, with all these threads about the problem, I wanted to start a new one to make it clear, with all information you may need in order to help me out.
I've got a MacBook Pro '15 and an iMac 21.5', both are running (clean install) OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2, both are up to date with the latest updates, both have the same apps, both have the same settings in "system preferences", and of course the same settings in "sharing" options.
My iMac is connected to my 5GHz network from my Time Capsule while my MacBook Pro use the 2.4GHz network.
Before going to bed, I leave both my Macs turned on, after 10min they go to sleep automatically. In the morning I can wake up my MacBook Pro from my iPhone or iPad with a screen sharing app.
The iMac doesn't respond at all. It stays in sleep mode. I can leave my MacBook Pro asleep for a week, it always responds. The iMac responds after a few hours but after 6 or 8 hours it seems to be completely asleep and doesn't respond to anything. If you think it's about the iPhone/iPad's app, when I try to wake the iMac from my MacBook Pro with "Back to my Mac" I have the same results.
I tried to connect my iMac to the 2.4GHz network: same problem.
OF COURSE "WAKE ON LAN" is activated in my system preferences.
I made a reset of the PRAM, the cache and the SMC on my iMac: same problem.
I type sudo periodic daily weekly monthly in the terminal and sudo dscacheutil -flushcache: same problem.
I tried everything I may have found in the forums or on this Support from people having the same issue: same problem.
I even tried to set the iMac with the same sleep mode as my MacBook Pro: same problem.
PLEASE HELP ME!

HP Color LaserJet CM1312nfi MFP Mystery Wake on LAN

The printer wakes unexpectedly, and unpredictably on the network. I cannot determine what, if anything, is waking it. The printer wakes and goes into calibration without any users on the network and without any print jobs. Mystery wake on LAN.

The HP drivers won't load on my 10.10.x (10.10.1 thru 10.10.4) OSX macbook pro. The install says the version of OSX isn't supported even thought I've tried 1.5.0 dmg file which is for 10.7 and greater. I did the math and I believe 10.10.x is greater than any version of 10.7. I also tried HP Easy Scan and it doesn't even see my scanner. Printing works fine, but I scan a lot of paper. Also, I've found that the Mac OSX version of the HP software (when it still worked) creates obscenely large PDF files. I can get around this by opening Adobe Acrobat Pro and re-saving the file as a reduced file size with the same name. I can take a 25 MB file HP creates and get it down to about 300KB or so. I found a way around all this but you won't like it. I've loaded Parallels (installed windows 7 ultimate 64 bit) and installed the windows client in my parallels image. The windows client works fine. Not a solution I prefer, but this is an HP issue not an apple issue .... HP hasn't put out a driver for this printer in the better part of 3.5 years. Lastly, I'm not hooking up a USB cable to my printer/fax/scanner .... what's the point of having a dhcp network capable printer if I have to hard wire to a PC? I've used HP printers since the mid-'90s, but I guess it's time to find a company that supports OSX.

T500 Wake on Lan (wireless) does not work.

Hi,
I set up T500 (Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit) for wake on lan,
1) Enable Bios WOL
2) Enable WOL in power manegement tab of Intel WiFi Link 5300 AGN property in device manager.
But WOL does not work. Sending magic packet from a PC in the same WiFi segment does not wake up sleeped T500.
Are there any setting for WOL in lenovo tools ?
Does anybody use WOL(WiFI) on T500?

Is the T500:
Associated with an access point at the time it is put into standby/sleep mode?
Connected to AC power for the whole time it is in standby/sleep mode (in otherwords the whole time it is in a low power state) when you are attempting to use WoWLAN?
If not, that may be at least part of your problem, as it is a known limitation on WoWLAN operation.
You also need to have the laptop "set up" to the master workstation, and the WLAN configured to handle braodcast wireless frame, but I am presuming you have already done that side of things.

SG200 how to configure Wake on LAN across subnets

How can I configure to support WOL on a SG200 (8 Ports) to support Wake On Lan (Magic Packets) from a different IP Subnet or other SG200 Switch. It seems not to support Directed-Broadcasts.

I checked out the link and tested the changes. Unfortunately, the WOL still won't work. In the link you attached, it states that you cannot turn on a computer that is off. Does that mean one that is off such as unplugged or in shutdown? Also, one of the steps to configure the firewall access rules says to block all outbound connections for all services. That doesn't make any sense to me, but I might be wrong. I also noticed that the link was for another router. I don't know if that makes a difference. I also read somewhere in the forums that someone else is having a similar problem, saying that Port Forwarding still isn't working in the latest firmware. This whole problem is strange because it used to work all the time on my old router with Port Forwarding, but on this one it won't work at all.

Wake on LAN across subnets

Is there a way to get Zenwork's wake-on-lan feature to work across subnets?
I am not a LAN administrator so pardon any ignorance you see in my
question.
Zenwork's wake-on-lan function won't work on our LAN because our switches
are set to not allow forwarding of subnet-oriented broadcasts, which is a
generic requirment for zenworks wake-on-lan function to work. Our security
folks say enabling this on the switches is not an option because it
introduce a security vulnerbility. I find it strange that there wouldn't
be a solution for this by Novell/Zenworks considering that multiple
subnets, switches, and security considerations are usually a component of
all networks which zenworks is specifically targeted for in the first
place.

Exactly, and this is the best choice. Make "Replication Servers" in each subnet, is very simple. U can use a Windows machine or SuSE, both without installing zenworks. Only registering them as servers satellites. You must install the agent (logically, hehe).

Satellite C660 - how to enable and Use WAKE ON LAN?

Hi All,
I previously posted asking about using Wake on Wireless LAN and was very helpfully advised that this was not possible, so I have started to explore the Wake ON LAN option.
I have a Toshiba C660 PSC0LE-00500JEN and have enabled Wake ON LAN on the BIOS, and have connected a LAN cable between my wireless router and the laptop, both of which recognise each other so the cable seems ok.
However, whether I use a WAKE ON LAN app on my android, or I use an online "wake on lan via browser" site, the laptop still remains asleep.
Can anyone advise?

The Wake Up on Lan option would work if you would send an Magic Packet to the remote machine (notebook).
I have no experience using the Android app who knows if it function properly
Try other method. For example using an software like Wake on Lan for Windows Graphical User Interface (GUI)
Google for that to download this software.
Furthermore go to device manager -> LAN card -> Properties -> Advanced tab and check here if the WOL is enabled too

Wake on lan - I can't get it to work

Sorry for the nubie here.
I am unable to wake my new iMac from my Macbook using WakeOnLand. The MB is using wifi and the others are using ethernet.
Also, I am unable to see a G4 running 10.4.11.
The MB and iMac are running 10.6.2. No firewalls.
I have a Dlink router and know how to get into its admin page but really am afraid to change its configurations due to lack of knowledge.
Any help appreciated.

no. wake on lan works over ethernet only. it does not matter what router you use. but SNow leopard has a new feature "wake on demand" that does work over wireless. but for that you need a very recent apple router (TC or AEBS) and and a very recent computer.

Can't get wake on lan to work on Hp n40l microserver

I installed arch on my HP proliant microserver and I can not get Wake on lan to work. I tested my device with ethtool and it supports and is enabled for WOL with g value set for both.
But whenever I power it off by systemctl poweroff I can no longer see it as a connected device to my router
Before installing arch I tried ubuntu for testing the hardware quickly and I got wake on lan working there. I can not figure out what might be the issue here. Wake on lan is enabled in the BIOS.
Any help would be appreciated

As I see in the Archwiki , the wol package would also need the IP address ( though not necessary ) along with the mac address of the server.
I fear that the nic on the server does not obtain an ip in shutdown state, since I can't see it in my attached devices in the router settings( I could be very wrong ! )
Tried using wol on a laptop running arch, but with no luck.
I have seen this workaround in several places

Wake on Lan (works, but not always)

Iam trying to get Wak on Lan working on my iMac. It works, but not always. When I put my mac to sleep en send the magic package, my mac turns back on. But when my mac turns to sleep and I wait a few hours (the next morning), my Mac doesn't respond to the same magic packag. When I wake up the Mac by hand, and put it back to sleep again, the magic package works again en turns the mac on.
It almost looks like the mac goes into a deeper sleep mode after a few hours. Does anyone knows what could ben the reazon.

mmm, It seems like my mac doesn't always turns to sleep mode. Most of the time it only turns off the screen (solid light). My energy settings are 10 minutes for the screen and 15 minutes for the mac. But after turning of the screen it never turns to sleepmode. Ecxept when I put it to sleep manualy.
Strange thing is: when the screen is turned of, shouldn't I be able to get tot my files... (I can't actualy).

Wake on LAN/Keyboard wake for a K8N Neo Platinum - how do I use this?

I've got a K8N Neo Platinum motherboard that I am using in my home theater PC and I was hoping to enable either the wake on lan or keyboard wake functions so that they could be controlled via a remote control. For now disregard what the overall outcome I want to achieve is... what I want to know is if enabling the WOL and/or keyboard wake function will allow me to turn on the PC from a completely powered down state as opposed to just powering up from a sleep/hybernation mode. I have read people with other motherboards have been able to power up by using their keyboard, mouse or even WOL when the computer is totally shut down. I'm trying to avoid leaving the PC in a sleep/hybernation mode due to electricity usage. Does this motherboard have the ability to power up when the whole system is shut down?
Also, what key on the keyboard is used to wake up the computer? The manual and bios instructions say nothing about what key needs to be pressed to wake it up.

I know you can set various wake options in the bios. Check there!
You can wake up the computer by wriggling the mouse or pressing any key, if the options are enabled in the bios.
