EA-4500 Media Streaming Issues?!

Hi everybody,
I bought EA-4500 3 weeks ago, apart from its fantastic performance in all fields ,the media streaming server is glitchy.
I google about it and found that the built-in media streaming server is twonky with the limitation of 8000 files only.
when I had more than 8000 media file on my hard drive some of them( Randomly!!) were not shown on none of my DLNA certified devices in my network.
I contacted the Support group and they told me that "it is true!!!"
Has anybody any experience in the field ?
It is good to notice that 1- My Firmware is uptodate .
2- My ext-HDD attached to ea-4500 is compatible with it, as I have no problem with its FTP server.

EA6500 media streaming issues

Looks like I'm not the only one having problems with this router. I figured a $200 router is going to run pretty well, but I guess not. I have a WDTV that I stream 1080p MKVs wirelessly to. Recently I have begun having lots of video stuttering and issues streaming the video in general. This isnt a bandwidth issue, as I have problems with any video, including 480p AVI. Mainly I am seeing slow operation of the WDTV unit which is because of the router. I have isolated the router as the problem by swapping it with my E2500, which has no problems streaming.
I just updated the firmware, so I'll see if I observe better operation. I was going to sell my other router, but I guess it's a bit premature for that.

If you didn’t have any significant difference after doing the upgrade, I suggest you do a complete reset and reconfiguration on the router. Upon reconfiguration, try to configure specific channel settings on the 2.4 GHz wireless network (channels 1,6,11 works good) and WPA2 Personal for the security so you can get better speed on the wireless network. It would be best as well to turn off Media prioritization and that the downstream/upstream bandwidth should be both set to 0KBps. Try it out.

Video streaming issue after Kitkat upgrade

After updating all my media streaming (Hulu, Netflix, HBO Go, Xfinity, YouTube) in HD or higher quality is choppy/jittery either OTA or WiFi. If I change it to lower quality all video plays without issue. I've done a complete device reset three times without any change in performance.
Anyone else having this issue or know how to fix?

My next suggestion would be to add an app like My Data Manager to determine if there is a drain on your streaming or if you are working from video on your device an app that tracks processing power. You should also check your rendering options. Not sure all the options for playing with it but developer options is one choice.

IP Voice Media Streaming App won't start

I'm using CUCM 7.1.5, but this was occurring in 7.1.3 also. I can start all of my other services except this one. CUCM says it starts the service successfully, but it still says "Not Running." This is the output of the service's log file. At the bottom it says it can't find the device driver. Any thoughts on how to fix this? Thanks.

I used those directions and found some other ones that worked better for me and it solved my issue! Here are the steps for the archives:
Download the CentOS 5.x CD
Restart the VM with that CD
At the "boot:" prompt type "linux rescue"
Then after it finishes booting up type "chroot /mnt/sysimage"
That will try to mount the CUCM file system to the root directory.
Then navigate to /lib/modules/cm_ipvms/ and identify directory xyz.i686
Create a new directory called xyz.athlon and copy all contents from xyz.i686 to the new directory xyz.athlon
Do the same for all directories ending .i686, so there is a .athlon equivalent for each i686 folder.
Restart CUCM vmware and boot normally
Then try to start the service.

Injecting DTMF event in the midst of RTP media streaming?

Hi all, I am attempting to implement a mechanism that allows me to inject DTMF RTP events in an RTP media stream. This is useful in telephony applications where the users are prompted to enter digits while being served by automated voice services such as answerinng services or tele-bankings etc. So basically my approach is to extend Sun's RTP packetizer and intercept outgoing packets when necessary and replace them with the appropriate DTMF RTP (RFC 2833) packets. Sounds simple enough. So I derived my custom packetizer from com.sun.media.codec.audio.ulaw.Packetizer, and over-ridden method process(). Normally my packetizer's method process() simply delegates the functionality to its parent class's process() method. When a DTMF digit is required I'd take the outputbuffer generated by the parent's process() and modify its header and payload to turn it into a DTMF RTP packet. The problem is that the class RTPHeader is so limited, there is no way to set the payload type, sequence number, ... And the documentation is precious few and far in between. If someone has solved this issue, or if you have a reference to some documentation that describes the inner working of JMF's codec chaining, I would appreciate some pointers. What I need to know is:
- What JMF does with the Buffer objects between stages (from one codec to the next)?
- The data portion of Buffer is an Object of arbitray class, what on earth does JMF do with that?
- How does JMF take a Buffer object and turn it into a UDP packet?
- How do I go about creating an RTP header and fill it with the information (payload type, timestamp, sequence number, ...) that I want?

I don't know what the heck RTPHeader represents but it sure doesn't seem to conform to RFC1889. And also, it seems the UDP RTP packets are formed somewhere after the packetizer and before the RTP connector, someone oughta jot all this down in a book. So anyway, using my own RTPConnector implementation I have some control over the outgoing/incoming RTP packets, to access and manipulate the real RTP header (not RTPHeader), I devised a new class that takes the RTP packet buffer and provides an API to examine and manipulate some RTP info directly on the buffer without doing any unecessary data copy (you guys can extend it to do more as per your requirement):

P2P media streaming

Hello,
i am trying to implement a small demo P2P application which involved PC and mobile devices. I wanted to split a media into byte chunks and store them on different peer. If a peer wants to watch a file, it will need to fetch each chuck from different peers one after another.
What media format (audio and video) J2ME MMAPI supports? For example my nokia N80 supports mp4 and 3gp formats does the MMAPI supports those also?.
it seems that streaming with RTP/RTSP has been quite tricky if i believed other thread, would it be possible to just send byte to a mobile device and play each chunck separately?
Can i split any kind of media in byte chunck? Or is there some kind of formatting issues?
Any other advises which could help me would be welcome. I will post my streaming code when i get it to work.

Airport Base Extreme & HD media streaming poorly

Hi All
Just wondering if anyone else is having an issue with streaming media from the Airport Base Extreme?
So my setup is
1Tb Buffalo Drive into logitech USB2.0 Hub into ABE
2 x PC's on wired network through ABE
1 x MacBook Pro on wireless
I use the MacBook Pro as a media server through the tv/stereo and had the gold idea of using the ABE as a file server for music/movies
In reality things are not as simple. I cannot stream movies without very noticeable jumping of the movie and music jumps as well - this is to the mac. To the PC's the streaming is fine with no problems. If i stream movies / music from the ABE to the PC's its fine.
so media streaming as follows (Server) -> (Client ) - Result
PC -> Mac - OK
Mac -> PC - OK
ABE -> PC - OK
ABE -> Mac - All media choppy
Anybody else had this problem and if so has anyone managed to solve it?

On your Macbook, bring up the Activity Monitor application and
select the network tab. It will show you a graph network data transfer
rates. Perform the Macbook tests you mentioned and note the rates
and character (smooth and continuos,very spiky,lots of gaps,etc.).
Also, what software are you using for each of your tests. Just want
to make sure comparing apples to apples (no pun intended.)

Airport Extreme, 5Ghz connectivity problems and poor media streaming

Hi,
I purchased an extreme from the apple store a little over a week ago, and before I send the device back I would like to solicit recommendations from this forum.
Some information about the setup:
- Single airport extreme (supplying wifi services for my non-wifi DSL router and a connected USB disk)
- Airport Extreme Firmware: 7.4.2
- iTunes: 9.0
- OS: Snow Leopard (10.6.1), Leopard (10.5.8), Window Vista.
- Harddrive: 2TB lacie, USB2.0 connection only
- 2.4 and 5 Ghz broadcasting mode
- The device is broadcasting on all supported protocols.
- Multiple clients (various: apple, microsoft, fujitsu)
- Small space, no major concrete/brick/stone walls, signal strength is 5 bars of goodness
- Country: Spain (I know there were 5Ghz restrictions here a while ago, but the device broadcasts on 5Ghz and is therefore not crippled).
If anything else could be of use, let me know and I'll update this list.
And now the problems:
1) 5Ghz connections fail
When connecting over the 5Ghz freq my connectivity to the extreme and the services it is offering (internet, disk sharing) is intermittent, at best. Basically, it has not worked reliably since I took it out of the box. This is equal for both of my macbooks and a fujitsu laptop (all with n support).
I've tried switching channels to avoid congestion - I don't live in a wifi-heavy area, and there are no other likely sources of interference (e.g. microwaves, cordless phones).
My connections to mounted disks come and go, I have to re-authenticate, and so on.
A general scan of the environment with KisMac does not show any major interference from other wifi networks (only 2 others in range, one is wimax).
I've tried to do some wifi analysis to see if I can spot any frame/packet related issues. Some rudimentary analysis indicates that when the connection stops working on the 5Ghz channel my laptop continually sends request-to-send packets to the extreme, but does not receive a clear-to-send. This occurs after a-few-seconds to a-couple-of-minutes of connectivity - the connection initially 'works' (i.e. wifi packets are sent/received correctly and I can access the internet).
2) Data access and media streaming from the connected USB drive is very poor
I've mostly had problems with itunes. I thought this might be related to the size of my library, but this shouldn't effect single track playing. Even enabling large buffering in itunes results in intermittent pauses and long track loading.
Note: this occurs over b/g connections; as stated already, n connections don't work. iTunes simply goes into a coma for while and then eventually fails. See above. Also, if I just stream from my macbook (i.e. HD connected via USB), it works flawlessly.
The extreme was running 7.4.2 - updated on first connection. It's now running 7.4.1, as I read on the forums that there were some perceived problems with 7.4.2 (although these perceptions may not be accurate.
Concl(f)usion:
I believe I've ruled out the following:
- Distance
- Interference
- Laptop related issues (the same problem occurs with 2 macbooks and a fujitsu laptop).
- Latest firmware
- Software (apps, OS, etc)
Which leaves me to ponder two possibilities:
a) The extreme is damaged.
b) The extreme is not a good product (surely this can't be so?!)
There is, of course, a c-possibility ... that the collective experience of the online community might be able to offer me an alternative path?
I would be very grateful if anyone could offer any suggestions, tips, tricks, spells or simply a hug before I contact apple to begin the process of explaining the issues and seeking some care.

I have had the same problem. Really frusrtating, expecially since the reason I bought the airport was because of all the wireless congestion in my neigborhood with only 11 channels on the 2.4 GHz spectrum.
Bought my airport dual band about a week ago. It had the firware 7.4.2. After extensive searching, I found other with similar issues. Apparently the last stable firmware may be 7.3.8. I am on 7.4.0 and not having any issues any longer (only testing one day now).
This may solve your issue. Login to your airport and choose manual setup. on the summary page, find 'Version' 7.x" and click on the word 'version'. This will allow you to rollback your firmware. I went with 7.4. Depending on what options you need with airdisk, Time Capsule, rolling back may remove those options, so experiment. You can always go back to 7.4.1 or 7.4.2 from within the interface.

TS3623 ATV3 massive streaming issues?

Hello,
For 4 days, we have been experiencing massive streaming issues with downloading content from itunes to ATV but also to other devices such as iphone, ipad and PC. Not only media content downloads present issues but also app updates. My full home set up has been checked and tested. Downlod speeds are in excess of 15mbps.
We are located in Bavaria, south Germany.
Is apple facing serious server problems as in the summer 2012? Or is it a software update problem? Is there an ETA for a fix?

RTMP & Flash Media Streaming Server Live application

I'm running Flash Media Streaming Server and have only been serving VOD up until now. I had my network administrator open up port 1935 to the outside world during the setup process and now I can't remember if that was actually required for streaming VOD to clients. Most documentation I've read says that this port should be open, but I seem to recall reading something at one point that suggested it wasn't necessary.
I've just started messing around with publishing live streams using Flash Media Live Encoder to the Flash Media Streaming Server. I have that working without issue but was surprised to find that no authentication is required before a client running the live encoder can publish a stream to the Flash Media Streaming Server. An authentication module is available however it only works with Flash Media Interactive Server and Flash Media Development Server.
If I leave port 1935 open to the outside world, there would be nothing to stop anybody anywhere from streaming video via my server. Anyone else running a default install of Flash Media Streaming Server and with port 1935 open to the outside should see that this is true of their setup as well. I'm wondering if I can safely close port 1935 without limiting the functionality of the server or if there's some way I can require authentication prior to publishing a live stream even though I'm not on the four-and-a-half-times-more-expensive edition of the product.

Now with so many publishers being present its not that trivial to
design single module which would suffice for whole set of
publishers.And according to me blocking all publishers right away and
just allowing FMLE using this plug-in might not be best solution. So it
is best left to the onus of one who is building solution to customise
things according to his own needs.
Bear in mind that not everybody is using FMIS. Users of FMSS didn't buy this product with the expectation of having to build applications and develop plug-ins (in fact, in the case of the former they explicitly cannot do so) - they bought it so that they could have a streaming server. As far as users of FMSS are concerned, I would think, the solution has already been built - by Adobe - and it's been found to be lacking a very basic element.
As it stands, even the authentication add-in that was developed for use with FMLE clients provides no security whatsoever. It would need to be modified in such a way as to permit access only to FMLE and block other client software before it served any useful purpose.
So yes, what I think would be useful would be a change at the protocol level / on the server side. An option to prompt all clients for credentials and allow or deny them access based on their response would be useful. Otherwise server admins will have to know about each and every piece of client software that may wish to publish a stream to their server and then . . . what - make modifications to their authentication module every time a new client pops up? Yes, a central, standard authentication system (like what is employed in pretty much every other client-server system that makes provisions for the requirement of authentication) makes a lot of sense.

No Media Streaming -BT Infinity

I have had BT Infinity installed today and can no longer stream movies and other files from my PC to my PS3 via my comtrend power plugs. This used to work flawlessly on my old Black Homehub 2 but the new hub supplied with the infinity whilst the internet connection to the PS3 works it no longer recognises my PC or does so intermittantly, any ideas?

I had a very similiar problem to this, not a ps3 but another device that I stream media to from my pc.

As far as I'm concerned its a router issue, that needs fixed in firmware.
My previous router using Sky never had this issue and the problems only began when the Homehub 2b was put in place of the Sky router.
Possibly some sort of power saving feature on ports, reason I say this is because when it did connect it would drop the connection after about a half hour without fail.
Somebody at BT needs to look into this and try and find a resolution, hopefully a mod can arrange this.

I have a RCA media streamer (Model # DSB872WR) that will not connect to my network with a new airport extreme.I had to create a new network and my computers are connected but media streamer will not. Can anyone help? Thank you

Use as a media streamer?

I have a 'spare' 1.66ghz core duo mini.
I am trying to determine if I could use it as a media streamer to my TV.
ie I want to use the rascal for external services like netflix and amazon...
Some questions:
1) My cable connection is a nominal 4mbs/sec. Is this adequate bandwidth for
Watching movies from netflix? The mini would be connected to my lan
Via 802.11g wireless.
2) I can attach the mini to the tv via a mini dvi to hmdi cable for the video but
I am not clear on how to handle the sound. I don't want to install an audio
processor and I am not sure I can get suitable audio from the headphone Jack.
I have a wd tv live for showing local video, and it works fine for that task.
Any suggestions?

Your mini should have a full sized DVI connector if it is the 1.66ghz Core Duo model. A DVI to HDMI connection should work well, depending more on the settings offered by your TV. For audio, see if one of the HDMI ports on the TV has a set of audio inputs paired with it. If so, that is the one you should use to connect your mini, and you can easily use a stereo 3.5mm (1/8") to stereo RCA (phono 'red and white') cable to pass the audio to your TV. You can also use digital optical input if your TV offers that paired with an HDMI input, but if your TV only has 2 speakers anyway, this may not be necessary.

ITunes and other media streaming

Hey all,
I have recently acquired a new sound system, a set of B&W 685 speakers, a NAD receiver, and an external DAC. Currenly I use my airport express to stream music from my laptop (macbook pro retina) to the system, but unfortunately as my itunes library grows larger I am running out of space on my laptop.
What I am looking for is a solution to store and play my music from an external source through my sound system, preferably controlling it with my phone, and not having to turn on my computer every time I want to listen to some music. Based on that explanation it does sound a lot like a SONOS Connect with an external drive/NAS connected to it. But wait, there is more.
Additionally I would like to run a USB from this "solution" directly into my TV, thereby being able to display my media content (pictures and movies) that are stored externally directly on my tv. I know that D-Links Boxee Box is a great media player, but does it work to play music if the TV is turned off?
Please feel free to leave potential solutions to my conundrum and help me to build the "perfect" apple media streaming solution, where all data is stored and played from an external source.
Budget vise I am don't feel like spending more than $600 - $800, so keep the propositions within that budget.
Apple proucts used today: Iphone, MacBook Pro, and Airport Express.

Did you ever get this solved? I'm actually having the same problem. I've moved my library from old mac to new mac and everything is fine with the exception of the purchases. any time i try to migrate them into itunes, it crashes.

Media Streaming in Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials Quality not good !

   I have media in windows 8.1 workstation. Made a VM on it (win2012r2) + made a Essentials and Media pack and enabled the highest quality streaming ("best").
   When I test the test 34 mb video on lumia 1520 I find that quality is very degraded. I studied that if you set the highest quality the processor should be good otherwise there would be effect of buffering and lags. But in my case, only problem
my 720p video seems like 240p and no pauses or lags.
   Is there a way to improve that ? ( I have strong Wifi Router to handle the bandwidth ).
   Everything above started from the fact that I could not browse my media files by opening a pc share folder from lumia 1520. if I could open the share folder, I could instantly copy and play from there while I am roaming.
That leaves me to the only option to attach USB, copy data and then test each new video, which is very slow process wise.

You are serving media from an essentials VM on a win 8 box? Did I get that right? In any case. Media Streaming is not a real strong point for essentials. I would look at Serviio or Plex
