EA1 - Connection tree is compacted, but only with specific connection names
When first started, SQL Developer v2.1.0.62 will consistently "compact" all of my connections over the top of each other... resulting on a garble of indecipherable text that prevents me from selecting the connection I want. I fixed this by adding a new database connection, then restarting.
If I delete the new connection, then everything looks fine until I restart... then it gets compacted again. I'm guessing that I'm hitting some special condition that's related to the names of my connections. If you would like to give me an offline way to get you the list then I'd be happy to send it through, but I'd prefer not to publish all of my details in this open forum.
Hi K,
I can't seem to replicate the problem any more, but I have put that line into my conf file just in case... and because of the positive success of the other poster, I'll assume that this does in fact fix the problem.
I presume that this line will be added by default in future releases?
Regards.
Greg.

Wont boot - no chimes, fan noise but only with battery connected
Hello,
It's an old Powerbook G4 - A1138 that won't boot.
If you press the power button, the fan whirrs quickly and loudly. But only with the battery connected. If the battery is removed (but the computer is connected to the power supply) then nothing happens...
I have tried re-setting the PMU as per this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1431 This didn't help.
Is it now dead? If I can just reach a point whereby I can boot it in Firewire HD mode (normally holding command + T down) and recover content then great!
Thanks :-)

Is this true? "iTunes 7 will do CD-Text, but only with certain models of CD
My friend told me the following. Is this true?
"iTunes 7 will do CD-Text, but only with certain models of CD burners."Probably not - although this comes only from personal experiance and not any technical knowlage. I always purchase cd's based on conviniance and not brand. Also spend my life between Europe and North America and have never encontered any cd that would not work - aside occasional lemons.
Hope this helps - just remember this is an experiance based reply. -

How to auto create a global variable with specific variable name in a global vi ?
how to auto create a global variable with specific variable name in a global vi using lv ? Because i need to add a lot of global variable in this global vi. But you know, if i manually add them , it will be a much time-costing work. So i want to use someway to auto generate ? Can i ?? Thanks a lot !
Hi
what aartjan is saying is the way for you. but you can develop an utility which will actually help you create global variables. To get the details on this just have a look at VI Scripting section on LAVA forum.
But i would like you to suggest few things
1. If your programs have so many global variables (Thats why u want utility) then you should take out some time to read about LabVIEW design patterns. I think if programmer follows these practicess he dont need a single global variable.
2. Their are some other ways to achieve similar functionality as of global variables (Uninitialized Shift Registers, Single Element Qs and so on) but they are much faster than global variables.
I am Attaching Whatever Resources i am having I will also attach the template of the design pattern i generaly use in short duration

ISight not working with Apple apps but only with Skype and flash....
Hi guys, don't know why but suddenly my isight stopped working with every apple application, like ichat, imovie and photoboot, but it still works with skype and safari (flash).
The camera simply doesn't work, the green led stays off.... I tried resetting PRAM, SMC, deleted .plist files, tried new account and everything...
Maybe the problem is facetime, I uninstalled it by simply dragging it to the trashcan, so I followed a thread here and manually deleted its last files but no luck....
Please guys help me, I really hope I don't have to FORMAT my mac... sounds so windows to me XD...V4N0 wrote:
...Well the camera is seen in system profiler and it works perfectly with skype, I'll try a couple of things then... well reset is inevitable....
Thanks for the "helpful" star, V4N0!
(1) Your initial post shows you using Mac OS X (10.6.6),
but your latest post shows Mac OS X (10.6.5).
Have you "downdated" to 10.6.5?
(2) iSight works with iMovie, Photo Booth, QuickTime, and other apps like Address Book,
etc. You need not try every possible app, but please tell us which you have tested,
and which, if any, work with your iSight.
(3) Have you tested iSight operation in more than one user account?
Are the symptoms EXACTLY the same in any user account you test?
(4) If your only problem is with ALL apps in ALL user accounts, try applying the
Combo Update using the method suggested in this recent post:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12859723
If you want the latest Mac OS instead of 10.6.5, download the 10.6.6 Combo Update:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1349
instead of the 10.6.5 Combo (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1324) link in the post.

Hi
I have started using my machine with an external monitor/speakers.
Unfortunately, the speakers have a very bad hiss/white noise. The hiss is so bad and constant that I have had to go back to using the MBP hiss-free internal speaker.
I have done some investigation and it turns out that if I unplug the DVI cable from the MBP the hiss goes. I have tried re-routing the cable but no luck. I have not tried another cable (the one I am using does seem to be of reasonable quality).
Does anyone have any advice as to what I can do to stop this noise (MBP is out of warranty).
Thanks
iMac Intel / MacBook Pro 15" Mac OS X (10.4.5)Hi there, im a conference technician at conference hotel and recently several mac users among our guest have a simulare problem. If the macbook is connected both to our soundsystem and a VGA projector there is a humming noice as if there is a grounding problem, and thats probably what it is. The sound system amp, projector and the MAC are placed with some distance and im not 100% sure they are connected to the same ground.
How ever this noice is not a problem when using older Mac's (pre-DVI connection) nor is it a problem with any brand of PC computers.
Could i do something with the DVI-VGA transformer?
or any other advices would be welcome.

IPad Air won't charge with ipad made adapters but only with iPhone's
My ipad air won't charge with any ipad made adapters! but will charge with my iPhone adapter. Oh and I bought my charger and adapter for my iPhone (that I now use for my iPad Air) at a store that doesn't relate to the officials apple store for only 12 dollars sadly when I charge my iPad Air
TTo let you know, my ipad adapter would always get hot so is it a problem with my ipad or adaptermy ipad adapter would always get hot so is it a problem with my ipad or adapter
Since your iPad charges with the phone adapter, the iPad adapter (that is made by who knows) is the problem. You tried to save a few dollars and it did not work. Get a real Apple adapter and your problems will go away. -
Windows (SMB) Sharing Troubles, but only with Groups
I have a NFS3 share on a Linux machine that I mounted to my OSX Server. The drive is shared and the Everyone, and User privileges work, I can change them and control the access. Group privileges seem to be broken. I can verify on the Linux machine that the proper group ID has been set on the files, but my WindowsXP machine's don't think they are part of the group I guess.
How can I start to debug this?
My OSX Server is running 10.4.8, and is a Samba PDC using Open Directory.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. In order to get this problem fixed you need to have "Enable Access Control List on this volume" (ACL) checked in the "Workgroup Manager".
POSIX only seem to support "Everybody" and "Users" access. While the Group data is intact, Windows XP doesn't respect it. With ACL on the groups magically work.
I have started another thread here to cover the NFS issue.

ALSA works, but only with one application at a time.
Hello,
Before I continue my post, I would like to say that I have read this section on the wiki:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AL … ack_Issues
It asks the user to edit /etc/asound.conf (which does not exist) in order to comment out a few lines that will fix the problem. It's quite frustrating to need to close all audio using programs every time I want to play audio. I do not have pulseaudio installed. I tried installing OSS4 in order to fix the problem, but for some reason my kernel headers were not detected and I couldn't start the daemon. I would appreciate it if someone could reply to me and tell me what the problem could be.
Thanks,

My computer's messing up and I decided I might as well start fresh, but I want some files and folders back obviously.
I take it, I simply need to:
Turn it off
Turn it on and put the install disc into it, meanwhile holding the C key
Install Snow Leopard
Once it's installed, select the external drive I'm using for backups
Open Time Machine, right click on files/folders I want to restore.
What will and won't work? Because, it seems to me you can't redownload movies from iTunes. What about the settings? Is there some sort of .yml or something somewhere that holds them?
And, something I'm dreading, how will I get my programs back? Will I need to reenter the product key? I have Adobe Production Premium CS5.5, should I deactivate it then reenter the product key? What about the plugins for After Effects? Also I have MPEG Streamclip, and when I bought it, I don't remember having to enter any product key.
And my copy of Office for Mac 2011, I bought the 2008 box and it came with instructions of how you're eligible to get 2011 once it's available, when I went to install Office for Mac on my MBA, the offer was no longer available.
Thanks in advance.I understand the basics, I just want to know how to restore certain items essentially on a new computer without restoring everything.

Hi everyone,
I've had ZERO issues with Adobe CC up until this past weekend.
I built a new PC (i7 5960x, X99 Deluxe MOBO, 16 GB DDR4 Ram, Windows 8.1) and I'm having strange issues while exporting from Adobe Premiere.
The export box comes up fine but when I send it to the Adobe Media Encoder Queue, a white box comes up and hangs Premiere.
I tried reinstalling both Premiere and AME, but that didn't help. I decided to take off all of my audio plugins from all of the tracks and it seems to work consistently.
I've never had this problem in the past.
It even hangs/freezes when I have Adobe stock plugins on (Radio Leveler preset single-band compressor as an example).
I had intermittent success while holding the SHIFT key while launching AME, then doing the export (with audio plugins), but it's not ideal.
Can anybody help?
Edit: All updates are installed.I have the same problem and it recurs with successive versions of the software that your subscribers are beta testing for you, Adobe Premiere CC. Please rectify.

IE problems, but only with the Japanese part of my site
I run an English school in Japan and after some searching on the internet found the suggestion of creating 2 sites and linking them, one in each language. My site is at http://web.me.com/canadaclubjp/ . The seems to work well on my Mac but I'm having problems with IE. It seems that the Japanese part of the site has elements disappearing for some reason. I recently added an extra navigation bar at the bottom, but that doesn't seem to be any problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
propably you can try on firefox or you have to include japanese fonts code for IE

ISight Working but only with Photo Booth
My built-in iSight is not working with several apps including Skype and iChat. iChat gives message being used by different application. the camera does work with Photo Booth. This is a new problem that has developed since upgrading from 10.5 to 10.5.1. I have tried several steps (PMU reset, deleting Photo Booth preferences, etc) but no joy.
Would appreciate any other thoughts.... There do seem to be a rash of similar issues under discussion at the moment but I can't seem to find a solution that works for me.Hello Sanpper F
(0) Shut down everything and restart your modem, router (if you use one), and Mac. Let each device's self-test complete before starting the next. When all have restarted, check to see if you still have the problem.
(1) Try all relevant from http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93240 and test again.
(2) Try reapplying the Mac OS X 10.5.1 Update. Repair permissions after the restart at the completion of the installer run. Then check to see if your trouble is fixed.
(3) If none of the suggestions you get here solves your problem, when you post back please:
(a) list every app you tried iSight with that does not work.
(b) tell whether the problem behaved EXACTLY the same in a new user account
(c) verify that your QuickTime Streaming Speed preference is set to your broadband speed (not "Automatic")
(d) list anything else that changed (network or Firewall settings, added hardware or software, etc.) since the problem apps worked correctlly
If needed, we will try to offer more specific suggestions based on the details in your reply.

Safari & iChat both crashing -but only with one account!
We have three accounts set up on our machine. Two of the accounts are working just fine. The third is having issues! When the third account is being used, iChat will not open and produces an error report. When Safari opens (Google is the home page) it crashes as soon as you start to type in something to search for.

I'm new at this - just started with the new mac back in March, and I have no idea where to even turn for help. Thanks in advance for any help or advice you might be willing to give!
VivianHi again Viv,
Bare with me, this is a bit longwinded.
It is actually an account I set up for my daughter who has limited computer knowledge.
She was using iChat - and according to her, she just assumed I turned
off the internet and iChat on her.
Hmm yes, you must of turned it off w/ your magic powers;)
Ok thanks, for the info, not an admin account.
Yes, those are the correct files you moved.
Are you running a ppc mac or a new Mac intel?
- Lets concentrate on Safari first, then ichat.
Do all the accounts, admin included, have Safari on the Desktop?
If so move them back.
And, I believe I have moved Safari into the application window.
The icons appear for a folder called Safari and Safari.app both appear.
Now I tried to reset the preferences but could not open
Ok, The plist file will be recreated when Safari is opened, should I presume it opened but you could not Go to Safari Preferences?
Let try to resolve the two Safari icons in the Application folder, first.
Is the Finder Window titled "Applications" on top? (see image posted)
Click on the Safari.app (that is the proper extension for Safari)
I trust that is the Application, the other maybe an alias icon,
is there a little arrow on the Safari icon without the.app extension?
To see which is the real Safari application....
In the Finder, Application window,
Click once onSafari.app to highlight it,
Now click on the " ⌘" (Command key)
along with the "g" + "i" keys a "Get Info"should open,
What is the size & date created of the Safari.app icon?
Does the system own it?
Check the same on the other,
What is the size & date created of the other Safari icon
If there is a goodly amount of difference in size & date created
move the one with the smaller size & most recent date,
to the "Moved Folder" you created.
------------Now------
Make sure all Applications in the Dock show to be QUIT no black triangles under the Icons.
Now in the Applications window,
Do you see the "Utilities Folder", double click to open that
Look for the "Disk Utility", double click to launch it.
See the HD in the left side bar.
Click on the HD.
Once you click on it, you will see the toolbar,
Click on "First Aid" tab
Now click on button "Disk permissions repair" which is also on the left side of the window, run "repair' not verify.
Let it run do not disrupt it, if it has not been run before it should take some time
When it stops running, if you receive any errors,
Run repair permissions again.
When you get the Message that the Permissions have been repaired or verified, form the Disk Utility menu bar,
Under Disk Utility, click quit.
Now under the
Click on Restart, when the mac has restarted, restart it once more.
let us know if you have any questions.
