EA2700 smart wifi keeps broadcasting SSID bug even if wireless disabled

Ver.1.1.39.145204 is the firmware.
Shutting off the 2.4 Ghz and the 5 Ghz wifi does not shut off the transmission of an SSID.
If allow wireless admin access is checked the SSID continues to transmit on both 2.4 Ghz and 5Ghz bands.
If unchecked then the SSID transmits only on the 5Ghz band.
In both cases the SSID being transmitted is the factory default SSID and it advertises an unsecured connection.  (router wipes out your security settings when you disable a radio)
On the plus side attempts to connect to this erroneously broadcast ssid have been unsuccessful but it still seems like a bad idea to be advertising an open connection 24 hours a day.
I have tried to report this to Linksys tech support.  Their answer was to reload the firmware.  Which I did - however it did not change the behavour of this SSID bug.  I asked them to report it as a bug and the lady declined.
Does anyone know how to shut of the SSID when the Wifi is disabled?

Hi eastavin. Did you delete some preferred networks on your computer when you disable both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz network? You need to do this before connecting your computer wirelessly again, so that you would be able to know if your computer can still see and connect to your disabled network. Also, what is the OS of your computer? Is it a Windows computer or a Mac?

It's important that you have a steady WiFi connection, ZealousEdge. What phone do you have? Is your phone unable to connect to any WiFi network? If you can, please try deleting the saved WiFi network and re-adding it.

  • EA2700 Smart WiFi Unable to Connect

I can't connect My EA2700 router through the Smart Wifi Utility.
When I first turned on the router I utilized the the CD it came with and tried to set it up. Although I was in range of the router and I can see it in My wireless list, I couldn't configure it.
I came of the utility and using the windows 7 prompts I was able to change the SSID and I received a generic password.
I was able to connect My laptop to the router with this password and access the internet.
When went to configure it through the Smart Wifi utility using the same password I can't access it. My laptop is connected but I can't access the router in the utillity.
I directly connected My laptop to the router using a cat5 straight cable from My laptops Ethernet port to the router's port #1 and tried the smart wifi utillity again. Still I can't connect.
I tried using the IP 192.168.1.1 in the browser Still can connect.
I tried using the CCC website Still nothing.
The prompt keeps saying invalid password, mind you at the moment I have already connected 3 more devices with the generic password.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Have your tried using "admin" instead? You did not exactly configure the router using the Cisco Connect setup wizard so the router's password is not the same as your wireless network's password. Log-in to http://192.168.1.1 or http://myrouter.local and use "admin" for password. If you have upgraded the router's firmware during setup, you may also go to http://linksyssmartwifi.com. Here, you can choose to access the page locally (use "admin" for password still) or create a Linksys Smart Wifi account for cloud- based access.

  • Wdtv not connecting to wifi unless broadcasting SSID

    Greetings from Sunny Spain  8)
I've been using for several years a wd tv live (currently version of firmware: 1.16.13) wirelessly attached to my network (Netgear router). My wifi security is wpa2. I also set my wifi, among other things, to NOT broadcast SSID.
I bought last week an Airport Time Capsule. For now it's working bridged to my Netgear router-modem, who gets the Internet connection. Wifi is supplied by the apple router.
I do have several boxes wirelessly attached to this new wifi: Sonos boxes, a PS3, a Wii, a Linux laptop, a Samsung printer.
But strangely enough I cannot connect my WDTV to this airport/wifi UNLESS I BROADCAST its SSID.
I've checked several times. Strangely enough (at least to me) I can still connect to a hidden SSID if I use my old router.
I've got no trouble getting the other devices (except for the Samsung printer who required a little work) to connect to the hidden SSID apple driven wifi. So methinks this is a bug, unless it's a feature  Is there any kind of workaround available that anyone knows about?
Thanks for reading this. Please forgive my poor grammar skills.

As you are probably already aware hiding the broadcast of a wireless network's SSID is not a fool-proof security measure but tends to introduce new problems ... like your WDTV not being able to connect.
I'm not sure why this is only happening with your new AirPort Extreme and not with your previous Netgear router but it may be due to how each manufacturer implemented this feature. I don't think it is a bug with your AirPort router and I'm not aware of any communications from Apple about it.
By the way, your grammar skills are excelente!

  • My WIFI keeps on disconnecting and even after reporting and suggestion by support the phone hasnt been replaced or repaired under warranty

I think I have had enough. So its been a long time back and forth between me and you. Since I am not getting any solution and same thing you guys are providing me again and again.
I want to take a step back and list down a few things which have happened so far :-
I started chatting with the apple support on this issue starting September - please refer back to your chats on this Serial Number.
I have factory reset my phone like 20 times since then as each time they asked me to follow few steps which made me loose my data as your icloud doesn't work properly as stated by your customer care support people itself that sometimes the back up doesn't happen so please take back up at your laptop too.
Send phone diagnostics by clicking on a link.
    reset your WIFI settings
Call apple support after 24 hours of observation.
Next day when same issue occurs then extreme Apology.
Take Back up on computer and Icloud both and contact apple support once its done
    Call apple support again.
Factory Reset by erase all contents and setting options. Once one call back again.
wait and analyse for a whole day after setting up apple ID and data.
    Wifi Issue stil exists.
    Call apple support again
Between all this I had to explain the issue each time to a new representative. This above process I have gone through at least 7-8 times. Please go and refer your call notes.
So finally i got to know after escalating it several times and one of your supervisors told me that the issue is a hardware issue and it can only be replaced as they have tried it all.
Supervisor assured me that he has recommended it to be replaced in notes and asked me to visit a center.
I called in local distributor and set up an appointment, unfortunately couldnt make it. So call them to reschedule as I am working women so i dont have all the time in life to keep interacting with associate after associate so thought of walking in to an apple store near by and lodge a complaint. The supervisor updated me that I have warranty left and it will be replaced without any cost and also if i report and issue in warranty and if apple is not able to resolve it so the warranty stands true until its completely resolved after customer's consent.
I went in to give my phone to the tech support and they kept it for analysis and came back saying the issue doesnt exist. I was getting a disconnection in my WIFI every now and then. My Data plan was always used and i fortunately have a proof of that.
Customer rep told me talk to apple support and if they say we will replace it. One more place added where customer has to go.
Now and back to square one - They say phone is damaged - we cant replace it. First of all the phone is not damaged and you guys are just finding reasons to not replace a faulty phone.
It randomly disconnects and its listed as a known issue on your website too. had this not been listed i would have never thought its the phone. Then I started to observe that its the phone that makes a disconnection and not the WIFI connections as it was everywhere home, office and at friends place.
Best i can do is call you guys when this happens if you guys promise me that the tech employee of apple can come to whatever location i suggest at that point and do not be surprised if the phone behaves normal when the person arrives as its random.
Now you want pictures of my phone and you want to analyse further.

After making an appointment and waiting over a week I was a few minutes late for my appointment I was told by apple I would have to make a new appointment. The shop was Chatswood in Sydney and the manager Mathew was very pathetic. I travelled 1 hour each way and was treated very poorly I must comment and say this was my first Apple devices and I will never understand how come people are buying these devices. The apps seem really good if only the hardware and the support could match. I really wish this manager all his best to Matthew in his next position somewhere else he obviously should not be in the position of managing an Apple store.

  • WiFi no longer able to even see wireless networks

At some point (I believe after installing an update) my iPhone is no longer able to find any wireless networks. It will just continue to "spin" on the choose a network screen and never finds any. Trust me when I say the wireless access point is working and isn't the problem. I used to be able to connect to it and haven't changed anything. Plus there are other iPhone and iTouch users in my house that use it without a problem as well.
Here are the things I've tried:
    1. Switch to airplane mode then switch back
    2. Reset Network Settings in the general\reset menu
    3. Upgrade to the latest and greatest iphone OS
    4. Finally, I did a reset to factory defaults losing all of my apps and settings. THIS WORKED until I did a restore of my backup to get my apps and data back.
Is there any way to get this working again without losing everything and starting over?

This is a user to user help forum only.
    Copied from my previous post.
If no change after resetting network settings on your iPhone and/or after restoring your iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup, your iPhone has a hardware problem with the wireless card or with something else. The iPhone includes a one year warranty.
Apple's solution if no change after what was copied from my previous post is an exchange under warranty since your iPhone has a hardware problem. With a hardware problem the only solution is an exchange under warranty. If there is no Apple store nearby, you can call AppleCare. If you have purchased the AppleCare extended warranty, the exchange will be shipped to your door the next business day after calling. If you haven't purchased the AppleCare extended warranty, if you pay $29 the exchange will be shipped to your door the next business day after calling. You must give AppleCare a credit card in case you don't return your existing iPhone within 10 days after the exchange under warranty is received. You use the same box to return your existing iPhone with the return shipping label located below the shipping label to you. AppleCare includes tape to reseal the box and a small paperclip to remove the SIM card from your existing iPhone. The phone number for the shipping carrier is included in the box. When the box is ready to be picked up to return your existing iPhone to Apple, you call the carrier.

  • HT6208 Cannot download the latest update 7.1.1 even though plugged in and on wifi keeps saying error help!!!!!

Cannot download the latest update 7.1.1 even though plugged in and on wifi keeps saying error help!!!!!

I am not getting an errr #. It just says that there are purchases on my ipod, not in my itunes. I transfer all of my ipod purchases into itunes. Then I try an download the new version of my ipod 7.1.1. It still says there are purchases on my ipod touch. So I just hit continue because their are not purchases on my ipod, that aren't in itunes. It extracts the software, and backs up ipod. Then itunes just closes. When I reopen it I get the same message A new iPod software version (7.1.1) is available for the iPod “My" iPodl”. Would you like to update your iPod now? My imac has recently been restored to as new, I have the newest ipod touch, and my version of itunes is also the newest version. The only thing that I can assume is that the problem, is another untested & bad update, from Capn Cook.

  • Does Samsung Galaxy III phones recognized WiFi that does not broadcast SSID?

I recently purchased Samsung Galaxy III phone.  At home, I turned on WiFi SSID broadcast on the router to set up phone to connect to router.  I then turned off SSID broadcast on router, and phone no longer connects to WiFi.  I understand security is better when SSID is not broadcasting, but this phone will not connect now.  Apple products connects just fine.  Why will the phone not connect to a router that does not broadcast SSID event when the information is programmed into the phone?

what revision Actiontec do you have, can you check the service Tag?   it will say REV A, B, C, D etc.....
Also you can verify you are doing the right one by logging in at www.verizon.com/repair and clicking "
    Retrieve your Wi-Fi Security Key"

  • Why do I keep getting the message that iTunes is quitting working?  I have reinstalled iTunes and I have checked the WiFi twice.  I have even put the internet cable directly into the laptop and still I cannot connect to the iTunes.  Offers no solutions.

Why do I keep getting the message that iTunes is quitting working?  I have reinstalled iTunes and I have checked the wifi twice.  I have even put the internet access cable directly into the laptop.  The message says that windows will look for a solution but never offers any solution.

Try disconnect your internet, then launch iTunes.
Connect your device, then reconnect your internet.
See if this resolves the issue.

  • HT1222 When is the newest, latest update coming out? I have a bug. I can't use my wifi. I can't even tap the wifi , it's all grayed out. I have an iPhone 3g.

When is the newest, latest update coming out? I have a bug. I can't use my wifi. I can't even tap the wifi , it's all grayed out. I have an iPhone 3g.

There are no more future updates for iPhone 3G. There is probably a hardware issue with your phone that an update would not fix.

  • HT1731 How does one configure a NEW (unconfigured) AirPort Express to join a WiFi network that has a non-broadcasted SSID?

The following KB article assumes that the user has a configured AirPort Express:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1731
I reset my AirPort Express, because the SSID of the WiFi network changed and its name is not broadcast for security reasons.
When using the "AirPort Utility" ( not the "AirPort Admin Utility" – which is the wrong name of the application in the article! ) the application found the unconfigured AirPort Express, connected to the LAN via ethernet; However, when selected, the configuration "wizard" assumes that the user wants to configure the AirPort Express as a WiFi base station.
I selected the option to have the AirPort Express join a WiFi network; However, the AirPort Utility sent back an error, saying that a "Base station" ( WiFi network?! ) could not be found. Well, guess what? That's because the SSID of the network I want the AirPort Express to join.
    UGH!
...and the best part is that there is no other solution, but to run with the AirPort Utility's assumptions, configure the AirPort Express as a WiFi Base station, then follow the KB article's instructions ( which are not accurate ) to re-configure the AirPort Express as a WiFi client.
This is a really bad user experience, Apple.
Please try following your own instructions to see how fantastically they fail..then, re-write your KB articles.
    Thanks,
PS — If anyone knows of any easier methodologies, do tell. (That's the "question" part of this inquiry )
PPS — My Mac Pro, which I used to configure the AirPort Express, does not have WiFi.
PPPS — Why do all the articles that match searches for "AirPort Express" return articles that refer to "AirPort Base Stations"?!  Please, for the love of UX, be consistent!

    Here are the basic steps:
    Run the AirPort Utility
    Select the AirPort Express
    Click on Manual Setup
    Click on the AirPort icon
    Click on the Wireless tab
For Wireless Mode, select the "Join a wireless network" option
In the Wireless Network Name field, enter the SSID of the hidden wireless network you want the Express to join.
Select the approrpriate wireless security type in the Wireless Security window.
Enter the appropriate wireless security password for the hidden network.
    Click on Update.

  • No SSID Broadcast (or connect) even when SSID broadcast is enabled on my WRT54GL?

    I own a WRT54GL, Firmware is 4.30.12 (the latest).
I used to be able to connect with the router just fine, 801.11g, WEP security.  Recently wireless connectivity stopped working (wired ports are working just fine, with both internal network and Internet access [external]).  I just got around to trying again tonight...
It seems that my notebook computer does not *see* the wireless router.  I tried connecting with SSID broadcast off (like I used to)... didn't connect.
I turn on SSID broadcast and even changed my SSID name on the router, and saved the config... but my notebook's "wireless networks" dialog still does not show my router (but it does show 5 of my neighbor's routers).
What would make an SSID not show up on my client "wireless network" dialogs, even though I tell the router to broadcast it?
Has the wireless portion of my WRT54GL simply died?

Please don't take this as an arguement, but I don't understand the logic of your troubleshooting steps.
I have no problems with Internet access, and my wired network works perfectly.  So there seems no point in expanding the problem to include my broadband modem, right?  My problem seems pretty well isolated (for now) to my WRT54GL only, since it is the immediate device that my notebook is unable to connect with (or see).
My firmware is the latest and was updated before I posted (see version # in my original post).  I has already recycled the power.  I didn't try the reset button... will try that next, but am not very hopeful :-(

  • Broadcast and non-broadcast SSID issues with iPhones and iPads

We have a CIsco wireless infrastructure configured with a public broadcasted ssid and a private non-broadcast ssid that we are experiencing issues with the iPads and iPhones.  The iPad or iPhone will switch between both ssids if defined but keep the original IP address when it switches to the non-broadcast ssid making it unusable.  It shouldn't be switching at all technically.  If the non-broadcast ssid is defined only on the iPhone or iPad, the broadcast ssid pops up and starts asking for authentication information.  I have Cisco looking into this but I'm quite sure this is an Apple bug. Any other device works fine.  We are currently using version 4.3.5(8L2) on the iPads and iPhones.  I do know that if we broadcast both SSIDS, the issue goes away, but I don't want to do that.  Although it doesn't really add any more security, it just isn't advertised, so most people won't see it and avoids a lot of questions. Hopefully there's a simple solution.
    Any ideas apple guys?
Also how does one open an actual trouble ticket with apple?

Did you solve this?  Settings\Wifi\Askto join networks - OFF

  • EA6900 After Creating the Smart WiFi Account, I get a "No Associated Networks" message

Well, I got my new EA6900 router and set it up following the Quick Start Guide, using my laptop directly connected to the router via an Ethernet cable.
After creating my new Smart WiFi Account and getting the router running, I took my laptop back to my desk, and connected via WiFi, using my new SSID and Wireless password. Then I checked the speed, and replied to the email to Verify my new Smart WiFi account.
Then I used the linksyssmartwifi.com URL to log back on to the router using my new Smart WiFi Userid and Password.
However -  I got the message "No associated networks. The Linksys Smart WiFi account specified does not have associated networks".  Huh - what does that mean?
Fortunately I could still logon by just using the Router Password, but why didn't this new Smart WiFi account work? And where do I setup the "Associated Networks"?
If you are getting this same "No Associated Networks" error message, then here is the answer:
***  You MUST remain cabled to the router via Ethernet for your INITIAL logon to your new Smart WiFi account. ***
This will cause the all-important "Associate Router" panel to appear, where you enter the Router Password to "associate" its network with your Smart WiFi Account.   Was that little tidbit mentioned in the Quick Start Guide?  Nooooooooo!!
Of course, then you can go searching for answers like I did, and perhaps even find the knowledge base article "Creating a Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Account". And if you work your way down thru it, all the way to Step 4, you'll see the "Associate Router" panel that didn't appear when you tried to do your first logon using a wireless connection.  An easy mistake to make.
And if you look very carefully at the fine print of Step 4, you'll see at the end of the so-called "Quick Tips" this little tip:
"Associating your account remotely is not possible."
Well Thanks, Cisco! By hiding that little tidbit so well - it was like an Easter Egg hunt, trying to figure out what "No Associated Networks" really meant. Please fix the Quick Start Guide to include a Step 6 with this very necessary "Association" step in it.

    Hi Geekychix,
No, I successfully associated - once I recabled my laptop to the router, and then signed on via the browser.
I suspect that many of you have a computer PERMANENTLY cabled to the router, so of course you can't understand this fundamental problem of the 'Associate Router' panel not appearing at logon, when you try to logon via a WiFi connection.
Maybe I should explain that the location of the router in a large house is crucial for good WiFI coverage.
Because of this, the router location may not be an ideal spot to keep a computer permanently cabled to the router.
In my case, it's quite inconvenient, which is why I made the effort to explain WHY I disconnected my cable, and logged on remotely via the WiFi connection, to complete the email validation, and make my initial logon to the account.
As I said before, it's an easy mistake to make - but there is No Clue that you need to remain cabled for the all-important 'Associate Router' step at first logon, which isn't even mentioned in the Quick Start Guide.

  • WCS/WLC Disabled WLAN still broadcasts! BUG?

Versions 6.0.182.0 on controllers (4 WISMs) and 6.0.132.0 on WCS.
Created a test WLAN which was used for a week or so, WPA2/PSK, broadcast ssid, standard stuff. I no longer wish to use it and set the enabled state in the template to disable and then saved and applied the template to the controllers. On various devices, I can still see it broadcasting! I have even checked on the individual controllers and the WLAN is set disabled, so no WCS sync issue. I also tried switching the broadcast ssid to off and reapplying it and this makes no difference.
If I try to connect to the WLAN, this fails, which is obviously a good thing! I have not tried to delete it yet as there are situations where we need the ability to enable/disable wlans.
Anybody else seen this issue before I report it to TAC?

If the WCS and WLC has been synchronized, you should not see this issue. Since you have already verified and ruled out a sync issue, this looks like a bug.
