EA4500 Guest Access - Poorly specified - please reconfigure ASAP

The ability to offer guests internet access without exposing the internal network and its devices is valuable.
However, the method used to implement this on the EA4500 is not convenient.
Firstly the naming constraints are unnecessary (same as the 2.4GHz SSID with '-Guest' appended), and
secondly, the mandatory use of a password is highly irritating.
Because of these 'features', I have been forced to disable EA4500 guest access and rely on the more user friendly capabilities offered by the access point supplied by another provider.

The average user won't understand why their Internet doesn't work as good as it used to when they leave guest network password disabled. But the neighbor's teenage kids will know why. But their lips will be sealed.
The average geek is going to understand this and use a cheap router as an access point for guests and turn on AP isolation and/or mac filter and disable broadcast ssid, and be done with it. Most geeks will engage wireless security on the AP 5 minutes after their guests leave.
There is an existing parameter which gives the user the ability to specify the number of guests on the network at any one time, this gets round the network congestion problem, especially as there are QOS parms which can be adjusted to protect bandwidth for streaming video, VoIP etc.
Not everybody has neighbours within WiFi range (to be honest they can be quite close and yet out of range with the ea4500), or even freeloading neighbours. Persistent abusers can be blocked.
If Cisco wants to cut down on support calls about poor network performance, they should take more care with the default set up.

  • EA4500 Guest access

    Hello!
Ive searched the web and cant find the answer im looking for.
I installed a Linksys EA4500 at a local gas station where i live.
I set up the guest access for customers to use. They are now having problem with people sitting there all day and night using the free wifi.
    So my question is:
Is there any way to put a time limit for how long a computer can stay logged on?
Was hoping i could set it up so you only could stay logged on for an hour each day.

You're right, Duece. It's really alright to ask. That is why we're actually here. To ask questions and help others understand their own challenges with the device.

  • My wifi will not turn on. The button is settings seems to be locked. I tried turning it on from the control panel, and also with Siri, but it still does not turn on in settings, so i cannot access wifi. Please help ASAP

Wifi will not work. The button in settings seems to be locked. Tried control panel and siri to turn it on, doesnt work because the settings wont turn it on. Need help ASAP cause my data limit is approaching.

If the battery was completely drained the iPad will not respond for some time after connecting it to the charger. Connect the iPad to the charger that came with it and plug that into a good wall outlet. Wait 30 minutes. Then reset the iPad.Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button continuously until the Apple logo appears. Then release the button and let the device restart. You will not lose data doing this. It's like a computer reboot.
If the iPad restarts let it continue to charge until it's battery shows fully charged. If the iPad still does not start Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support. Be sure to back up your device before taking or sending it to Apple.

  • Webproxy for guest access

    Hi,
I have deployed web proxy in explicit mode with integration with Active directory.
When my users are authenticated they are getting the access to the internet as per the policies.
I want to know, if any guest user's come and try to access the internet he wont be a authenticated user hence there will be no access to rule.
Is there any way to create a guest access policy that if the user is not found in the AD but he should get access through the second policy.
I have seen there is a option for the guest but not sure how this works.

Please see the user guide: http://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/td/docs/security/wsa/wsa8-0/WSA_8-0-0_UserGuide.pdf and go to page 112 for "Granting Guest Access After Failed Authentication"
Basically when you create an Identity with authentication, tick the option for "Support Guest privileges if a user fails authentication.
Then ideally you will need to create 2 Access Policies using that Identity:
    1. Access Policy that is using the authentication.
    2. Access Policy that is using the same Identity and when you specify the Identity use and under "Authorized Users and Groups" select the "Guests (users failing authentication) then submit. (please note to put this second access policy under the authenticated access policy not place it before the authenticated access policy), after this you can specify the level of access for this access policy.
    Hope this helps

  • Configuring Guest Access using 2 LWAPs and 2504 WLC

    Please advise,
I have 2 APs, Cisco Aironet 1040, and 2504 WLC.
Is it possible to configure guest access (Guest SSID/VLAN and Corporative SSID/VLAN) without dedicated guest WLC in DMZ?

Yes you can. You can have up to 16 SSIDs per AP, but not suggested to have all 16. You can either use one port on the 2504 for both SSID/vlan or specify which port is for corporate and which one is for guest.

  • HT3669 Where did you get the driver information for the HP 4MV.  I cannot connect to MacBook Pro on 10.6.8 and believe you have information that might help.  Please advise ASAP.

Apple published a report - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3669#HP - that states system 10.6.8 supports the HP LaserJet 4MV.  If this is accurate information, I would like to know where the drivers are located.  I have spent more than three hours with your technical support and no one has a clue how to make this combination work.  Please help ASAP.  Thanks!

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
We are all users here. There is no one from Apple responding on these user forums.
You did not mention which interface you are trying to use, or what steps Apple support had you try already, so I'll start with basics.
Your mid-2009 MacBook Pro would have shipped with OS X 10.5 'Leopard', and OS X 10.5 and prior versions supported the AppleTalk network connection and protocols, as well as others.
OS X 10.6, 'Snow Leopard' dropped support for AppleTalk.
So, Snow Leopard 10.6.8 likely does contain the correct DRIVER for your printer, BUT if your printer was originally connected via AppleTalk, AppleTalk will not work with Snow Leopard. Period.
There is at least one recently-published workaround to connect your printer via Ethernet, provided that you have the OPTIONAL HP Ethernet MIO interface card installed in your HP LaserJet 4MV printer.
If your printer DOES have the optional Ethernet interface, you can reconfigure your printer to use Ethernet instead of Appletalk. No, it's not 'plug and play' like AppleTalk was, but patiently following detailed step-by-step instructions it can be made to work.
The HP forums contains brief instructions on how to configure MIO Ethernet, and once configured, how to select the 4MV driver within this thread:
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Mac-Printing-and-Scanning/Laserjet-4mv/td-p/1176843
This Macrumors forum thread contains a post by TrumpSAJ with more detailed configuration instructions:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=8748935#post8748935
Other World Computing has an older guide linked here:
    http://blog.macsales.com/1897-appletalk-not-available-in-snow-leopard
And a thread on Gigaom discussing some other alternatives to Ethernet (for a variety of printers):
    http://gigaom.com/apple/how-to-resurrect-your-appletalk-printer-in-snow-leopard/
In my opinion, if you don't already have an HP Ethernet MIO card installed in your circa 1995 printer, then it's time to buy a new printer. Spending more money to 'upgrade' something that old doesn't seem like a good investment.

  • Cannot display the folder. Microsoft Outlook cannot access the specified folder location.

    Hi, guys
I cannot view delegate mailbox in Outlook. Following is my configure.
    I have two mailbox A-User and B-User
Login Outlook as A-User, click File -> Account Settings -> Delegate Access, add B-User and give Editor permission of Inbox.
Right click A-User's root inbox and select Properties -> Permission, select B-User and check "Folder visible".
Login Outlook as B-User on other computer, click File -> Account Settings -> Account Settings, select B-User and click Change -> More Settings -> Advanced, add A-User.
Now I can see a root A-User in Navigation Pane. But when I click it, it shows
"Cannot display the folder. Microsoft Outlook cannot access the specified folder location."
    or
"Cannot display the folder. Microsoft Outlook cannot access the specified folder location. The operation failed. An object cannot be found".
I searched some solutions from internet, but all of them don't work. Could you give some suggestions?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
First, please double check if you have given the right permission to B-User on your step 2.
In addition, we can try to give a higher permission to the B-user to check the result.
Please feel free to post back and let me know the result.

  • How do I disable guest access in the advanced web controls? E2000

Due to cisco connect not connecting and my rouer having some problems I have reset it and gone straight into the advanced web control panel. I have everything set up and running, but I see no way to turn off guest access. I do not want any "guests" to be able to access my  E2000 router, how do I disable that in the advanced web control panel?

sabertooth is correct. The Guest network is managed by Cisco connect software only.
You can reset the router and reconfigure it manually.
Press and hold the reset button on the router for 30 seconds. Release the reset button and wait for 30 seconds. Power cycle the router and reconfigure it manually.

  • Guest Access

I have OS X Lion Server running on a Mac Mini.  I just want to enable SIMPLE guest access to a share.  This is for a home with Mac and Windows 7 PC's.  I dont want user accounts, just using this Mac Mini (or trying to) as a simple file server/iTunes server.
I have created a share.  I have enabled guest access.  I have even given the entire drive/volume its on "Others" (or whatever it is) read/write permissions and reset the ACL's on the drive, with the share.  Windows computers (Windows 7) prompt for a user name and password.
Why?  I can login in with the admin account of the Mini server at Windows and get in....but I dont want to login.
    Any help would be great!
    Thanks,

No, need not have to buy any router. Just in order to show up the Guest Network you need to reinstall/reconfigure the whole router. While reconfiguring the router again make sure the existing Cisco connect should be uninstalled first and then follow the instructions provided in the link: http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=e30f926604334d538668529cb50ad174_21463.xml&pid=80&...

  • WLC and ISE guest access COA

We are migrating to ISE for guest access and are having problems with the COA being delivered after a successful authentication.  ISE attempts to send it but nothing changes on the WLC.  The message in ISE is Dynamic Authorization failed and a message that ISE didn't receive a response from the NAD, verify communication.  What is odd is the original guest request comes in from the IP address of the service port on the WLC but anything doing with the COA is seen from the management.  I have both IP's defined for the device in ISE.  I am about to do a session reauthentication within ISE and the WLC applies the changes.  I have verified that RFC 3576 is enabled, but the show radius rfc3576 stats shows no values.  The WLC is running 7.6.130.  I have attempted to debug on the WLC side to see if the message is even being delivered but non the debugs i have attempted seem to offer any good information.
    Anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Joe

    Hi Joe,
I dont really know what you are trying to do with the COA , as it is used in the CWA solution and BYOD solution as well. But even before trying that , I would advise you to go step by step and solve the n/w issue first. You are able to see the request from service port which should not happen because then the incoming/outgoing traffic takes different path. You must be facing this situation as you might have some network routes matching ISE subnet/Ip address in the GUI>Controller>Network routes as there is no need of those routes. If the service port needs to be used during controller down scenario then use a laptop in the same subnet of Service port ip and connect to the service port.

  • ISE - Guest Access (without portal)

    Hi Guys,
I have a customer who current is using the cwa portal for guest access. Corporate use will be added in the future sometime next year.
    Kit involved:
    5508 - Internal (Inside Net)
    5508 - Anchor (DMZ Net)
    ISE - Inside Net
    3600 APs
Presently, guest user connects, anchored to DMZ 5508, issued IP address from server in DMZ and DNS redirect to the web portal from same server. guest logs in and internet access through ASA and then content filtering box.
They want a solution whereby they do not have to use the portal for corporate user with their own devices such as ipads. I know BYOD is a possiblity but would involve using a CA server on the inside of the network. This is not something I'm keen as it opens a channel from the guest network directly to their AD infrastructure.
I'm leaning toward PEAP authentication atm using a GoDaddy SSL cert that is already installed. This would bypass the portal system and only involve client devices being configured once.
Is there any other option that would be simple to setup as this is on a limited timescale ?
    Cheers,
    Nick

If you are referring to supplicant provisioning, the scep enrollment request is proxied from ISE and the private key and cert is transferred to the endpoint. This doesnt require your guest network having direct access to AD....just to ISE.

  • E2500 with multiple APs for guest access

I got 5 E2500 routers and the main one has setup to IP address 192.168.1.254 and the rest APs are programmed into the bridge mode with the IP address 192.168.1.245 through 248. The secured wireless network  works fine when I roaming between these APs but the only AP that I can get internet access for guest wireless network is the main (192.168.1.254) router; for every other APs, I will get the guest log on screen (prompt for guest access password) and no internet access after I type in the correct access password. Does the E2500 support multiple APs guest or it requires a special way to configure it? Please help...
    Jim

Guest Access allows you to provide Internet connection to your guests, however, they will not have access to your computers or other personal data. When you set up your Valet or Linksys Wireless-N router, the Cisco Connect software will create two wireless networks with the same Wireless Network Name (SSID) that differs from one another by a -guest suffix to one of the wireless network names.
So first of all remove all the networks from the preferred list of the computer and then try to connect.

  • "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file, you may not have appropriate permission to access the item" Why?

Whenever i try to access any folder on my computer(Windows 7), it tells me "Windows
cannot access the specified device, path, or file, you may not have appropriate permission to access the item",
    this happens even for My
Computer and Control Panel. It's driving me nuts! I'll be honest here, I was trying to uninstall Visual
Studio 2013 Communityfrom my computer by going to Programs
and Features but for some reason, it was getting stuck at "Configuring
Your System". After trying it numerous times, I went to the visual studio installation directory, and removed
the installation files from there. I even removed the files from the C:\Program
Data folder, then i went back to Programs
and Features and tried to remove the listing there, but I got a dialog box saying "you
don't have sufficient access to uninstall visual studio" . I googled this problem and found this  solution
    (http://superuser.com/a/174198)
then i tried using the solution, I used SubinAcl and
changed the registry permissions as mentioned in the solution and ended up like this!
All the access permissions are set correctly (that's what I can make out...)
    Please Help!

    Hi
Some required information are needed for us to help you.
    Hi NabeelOmer,
We wonder if you have taken any action such as system restore after this issue occurred.
You might also try this command to restore your access control list.
Run this command to navigate to the drive letter, example is D
    D:
To reset all permissions, run this command
    icacls * /reset /t /c /q
Visual Studio is a very invasive program and which provides the ability to enumerate projects and solutions for system, user should never try uninstalling it manually without any guidance.
Visual Studio made changes for your whole system, if the file has been moved or deleted this error would occur.
Since you mentioned that you get this error almost everywhere even in control panel. We suggest you repair/reinstall your Visual Studio first and check if it could be fixed.
